Surprise Return Takes Place During This Week’s AEW Dynamite

Welcome back. Every now and then, a wrestler has to go away for one reason or another. That can make for some changes in storylines, but it can also lead to some cool moments when they finally get to come back. It is even better when someone comes back from a special occasion, and that is what took place this week with a surprise return during AEW Dynamite.
During this week’s special Grand Slam edition of Dynamite, Brandi Rhodes made her return from maternity leave. She accompanied her husband Cody Rhodes to ringside during his match against Malakai Black. During the match, Brandi got in the ring and sat face to face with Black as he taunted Cody, who was down on the floor. Brandi had been away since late last year on maternity leave.
You might need a refresher. Check out what Brandi can do when she is around:

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – September 22, 2021

DynamiteAEW
Date: September 22, 2021
Location: Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium, New York City, New York
Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross
We might be in for the biggest Dynamite in history as we the show is in New York City in front of about 20,000 people. The card is stacked too and this is giving me vibes of the Raw in MSG debut, which just happened to be twenty four years ago to the date. If it’s close to that good, we’re in for a huge night. Let’s get to it.

New Column: AEW’s Garden Style Grand Slam

AEW has changed the wrestling landscape with a mixture of different tactics. In addition to having some very entertaining wrestling, they have also done a nice job of tying their current product back into wrestling history. Some of these things have been flat out copies, but others have been a bit more subtle than that. This week, as AEW approaches probably their biggest Dynamite ever, they are dipping back into history again, whether they realize it or not.
This week, AEW is presenting its Grand Slam event in New York City at Arthur Ashe Tennis Stadium. The show will feature probably set AEW’s all time attendance record and will feature an absolutely stacked card. Already announced are Kenny Omega vs. Bryan Danielson, Britt Baker defending the Women’s Title against Ruby Soho, the Cody Rhodes vs. Malakai Black showdown, Sting in action and a CM Punk interview. That’s one of the biggest cards ever, and then there is Rampage on top of the whole thing. All of that alone is an amazing car..

Main Event Results – September 22, 2021

Main Event
Date: September 16, 2021
Location: TD Garden, Boston, Massachusetts
Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Byron Saxton
We’re on the way to Extreme Rules, which is currently missing out on anything extreme. I can’t really picture that changing here, but Main Event isn’t exactly a show that likes changing things up very often. At best we can get a few good original matches and that’s about all. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Jaxson Ryker vs. Drew Gulak Ryker powers him into the corner to start so Gulak tries a slap to the face. This goes as well as you would expect as Ryker plants him down and hits a running headbutt. A shot to the throat slows Ryker down though and it’s a headlock takeover to put him on the mat. It takes Ryker a bit longer than expected to suplex his way to freedom as the comeback is on. A top rope hurricanrana of all things sets up the swinging Boss Man Slam to finish Gulak at 5:24.

RUMOR: AEW Considering New Championship

Keep bringing the gold. AEW has not been around for very long now but the company certainly has its own identity. This comes in the form of various traditions and accomplishments, some of which come in the form of championships. The company only has a few titles around, but that number might be growing even higher in the very near future.
According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Wrestling Podcast, AEW is considering introducing a new championship, which would be a secondary women’s title. There is no word on when the title would be introduced or what it would be called. AEW currently only uses its own Women’s World Title, as held by Britt Baker, though they have also used the NWA Women’s World Title, currently held by Kamille.
Hearing rumblings of a new title being introduced to AEW soon.

WWE RUMOR: Monday Night Raw Star Requests Release

So long again? WWE has been undergoing a lot of changes over the course of the year and a lot of that has been due to moves being made on the roster. This has included a lot of wrestlers leaving the promotion for one reason or another, some of which have not been voluntary. This time around though, another wrestler may be on their way out and by his own choice.
According to MasLucha.com, Monday Night Raw star Gran Metalik has requested his release from WWE over not having enough opportunities or a clear path on the roster. Metalik’s current deal expires in 2023 and he has been with WWE since 2016, losing in the finals of the Cruiserweight Classic. Metalik has spent the majority of his WWE career as a tag team wrestler, mainly as part of Lucha House Party.
You might have forgotten about him. Check out Metalik in WWE:

Update On Nia Jax’s Status After Monday Night Raw Attack

It might be a little while. Injuries take place all the time in wrestling and that is never a good thing. Sometimes someone is going to be forced out of action and the question becomes just how long they will be missing. There are a lot of legitimate injuries but sometimes a promotion uses a fake one to get someone off of television. Another wrestler is going on the shelf, though it could be for either reason.
This week on Monday Night Raw, Shayna Baszler defeated Nia Jax in a match that lasted less than three minutes. Following the match, Baszler crushed Jax’s arm in the steps and stomped on it to further the damage. During this week’s edition of the Bump, an announcement revealed that Jax had suffered a fractured and dislocated elbow, both of which will require surgery. It is not clear how long Jax will be out of action or why she is going on the shelf.
Baszler looked like a monster. Check out her beatdown of Jax plus some of her other dominant moments:

VIDEO: Keith Lee Gets Something New During Monday Night Raw Dark Match

That’s something new. A wrestler’s name can change everything about their career. The right or wrong name can make or break how someone is seen. Sometimes you see a wrestler get the wrong name and it does not work whatsoever. Other times it can be quite the hit, and hopefully the latter is the case in this situation, as a current WWE star needs the boost.
Keith Lee wrestled a dark match before this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw and was introduced as Keith “Bearcat” Lee. The name Bearcat may be a reference to Bearcat Wright, a wrestler who performed in the 1950s and 60s and was inducted into the Legacy Wing of the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017. Lee has not wrestled on television since the August 2 edition of Monday Night Raw.
You might not remember him that well. Check out the new and old versions of Lee:

WWE Want To Hear From You About New Superstars

They want to hear from you. NXT has been changed quite a bit as of late and some of those changes have been more prominent than others. The biggest changes have taken place over the last few weeks as NXT 2.0 has officially launched. There were all kinds of new names appearing on the show and now WWE is wondering what you thought of those debuts.
WWE has released a poll on its website asking fans which new NXT wrestler had the best debut. The choices are Bron Breakker, Trick Williams, Von Wagner, Brooks Jensen and Ivy Nile. Breakker is leading the results with 67% of the vote and was the only wrestler to win his match last week. Of the five wrestlers listed, only three of them actually wrestled a match at all.
Some of the wrestlers did better than others. Check out how they have done so far:

Vince McMahon Considering More Adult Changes For NXT

The boss may be speaking. While he might not be the most popular anymore, there is no one as powerful in wrestling as Vince McMahon. Anything he does or says can change the way wrestling works and that has been the case for a very long time now. It can be interesting to see what kinds of changes he makes and that seems like it could be the case again with NXT.
According to Fightful Select, McMahon is considering some new changes for NXT and might have the support of some USA Network executives. Some of the plans would include focusing more on the 18-34 demographic, featuring harsher language and in-ring aggression. There would also be more of a focus on current affairs and verbiage in promos. There is no word on if or when these changes would go into effect and they are only being discussed at the moment.
Did this week look different? Check out how the show went:

Why You Won’t Be Seeing Bryan Danielson Doing The YES Chant In AEW

Something is missing. There are certain things that are associated with certain wrestlers. It might be a move or a catchphrase, but the most effective one can often be a gesture. Steve Austin had the middle finger, Hulk Hogan had the hand to the ear and the Rock had the eyebrow. Now though, you might not be seeing one of the most popular modern gestures of the time being.
Bryan Danielson was a guest on Rasslin With Brandon Walker where he discussed not using the YES chant in AEW. Danielson mentioned that he spoke to Kevin Dunn before he left WWE and was asked to not use the YES chant as it is WWE’s intellectual property. This was done as a request and WWE has not threatened any form of legal actions against Danielson. It is understood that the fans are likely to do the chant, but Danielson will be trying not to get involved.
It’s an interesting interview. Check out the full thing, plus Danielson in both companies:
