REVIEW: Super Showdown 2018: Go Under Down Big (Or Something Like That)

October 27, 2021 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Super Show-Down Date: October 6, 2018 Location: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves We’re at the latest big international show here and that means…well it’s hard to say actually. There’s a lot going on at the moment in WWE but they have a tendency to turn these shows into a glorified house show with almost nothing happening. Hopefully WWE has figured that out and knows that we need to actually get something important on the show. Let’s get to it. Th..

AJ Styles Possibly Missing Time Due To Injury

October 27, 2021 • Admin

Hopefully it’s not bad. Wrestlers are rather unique in almost everything they do, but there are a few things that are constant among all of them. Unfortunately one of those things is that any of them can get hurt at any given time. Some of these injuries are going to take place all at once, but others might have been built up over time. We might be seeing another one at the moment. WWE had advertised a match on this week’s Monday Night Raw between AJ Styles and Omos and RKBro. However, the match did not take place and Styles did not appear on the show. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this is likely due to Styles suffering an unspecified injury, though this has NOT been confirmed. Styles wrestled at Crown Jewel on October 21 and had reportedly been dealing with some kind of injury. There is no word on when he will return to television. Styles is still great at what he does. Check out some of his time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains ..

Walter Set For Upcoming WWE Main Roster Shows

October 27, 2021 • Admin

He’s a big deal. Every now and then, you see a wrestler who is going to make an impact like few others could ever imagine. There is just something about them that cannot be overlooked and they do something that almost no one else can. That is the case with a few WWE stars, and now one of the more notable ones is going to be getting some bigger spots in the near future. WWE has advertised former United Kingdom Champion Walter for multiple shows on their upcoming European tour. Walter is advertised for shows on November 7-9, which will all take place in England, with events in Liverpool, Leeds and Nottingham respectively. Walter’s opponents have not been announced and it is not clear if he will be wrestling on any other shows. The matches will be Walter’s first since losing the United Kingdom Title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT Takoever 36. Walter is a force. Check out what he can do in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This p..

AEW Signs Another Former WWE Star

October 27, 2021 • Admin

He’s up next. AEW has been quite the game changer in just their few years of existence. While they have done all kinds of things for the wrestling world, one of the most important has been offering wrestlers another major promotion where they can ply their trade. That is something that has been missing from the mainstream wrestling world for a long time now, and it turns out that we are going to be seeing someone new in an AEW ring. Last week’s AEW Dynamite featured a cameo by former WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion Tony Nese, who was shown sitting in the crowd multiple times. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Nese has signed a contract with AEW, though the company has not yet announced a signing. Nese was released from WWE in June along with several other promotions over the course of the year. You might need a refresher. Several Title Changes Take Place During NXT Halloween Havoc

October 27, 2021 • Admin

I’d call that a busy night. There are all kinds of wrestling shows on the air every week, but sometimes you get to see one that is an especially big card. These shows are going to feature marquee matches with big stars involved, along with several championships on the line. That was the case this week, and it was a rather bad night for people coming in with titles. This week’s edition of NXT was the Halloween Havoc special, which featured four title matches on a six match card. Of the four titles that were on the line, three changed hands. First, Toxic Attraction won the NXT Women’s Tag Team Titles from Io Shirai/Zoey Stark in a ladder match also involving Persia Pirotta/Indi Hartwell. Next, Mandy Rose defeated Raquel Gonzalez in a street fight to win the NXT Women’s Title. Finally, MSK lost the NXT Tag Team Titles to Imperium in a lumberjack match. The only champion to retain their title was Tommaso Ciampa, who defeated Bron Breakker in the show’s main event. It was a busy night. Ch..

WWE Reportedly Makes Surprising Release

October 27, 2021 • Admin

That’s a surprise. There have been a lot of changes to the WWE landscape over the last year and a half, as all kinds of names have been released. That can cause a lot of jarring differences, but there are a few people you can almost count on to always be there. It turns out that will not be the case with another name though, as WWE may have let someone else go. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has released ring announcer Greg Hamilton, effective earlier this week. Hamilton reportedly took issue with rapper Westside Gunn using his voice and threatened to have WWE sue Gunn and was released soon after, though this is not confirmed as the reason for his release. Hamilton has removed all WWE mentions from his Twitter account and set it to private. Starting with WWE in 2015, Hamilton moved up from NXT and Tough Enough to become the voice of SmackDown. There have been some great ring announcers in WWE history. Check out how some of them have done over the years: [This post contains video, c..

October 27, 2021 • Admin

NXT Date: October 26, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph It’s another special show this time around with Halloween Havoc. Last year’s edition did rather well but now we need to see if they can do the same with the new cast. The main event is Tommaso Ciampa defending the NXT Title against Bron Breakker, plus a bunch of Spin The Wheel, Make The Deal matches. Let’s get to it. Chuckie as in from the Child’s Play movies, welcome us to the show and runs down part of the card. Women’s Tag Team Titles: Toxic Attraction vs. Persia Pirotta/Indi Hartwell vs. Io Shirai/Zoey Stark Shirai/Stark are defending in a ladder match, with Chuckie giving us another intro. It’s a brawl to start with Toxic Attraction being sent outside. Some ladders are thrown inside and it’s Hartwell/Pirotta going up, only to have the champs break it up with some dropkicks. Jacy Jayne kicks the ladder and breaks one of the metal pieces in the midd..

Another Backstage Fight Nearly Broke Out Over Charlotte/Becky Lynch Incident

October 26, 2021 • Admin

Call it a spinoff? With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, there are always going to be people whose personalities eventually clash. This could be due to almost anything and you never know when something might flare up. What could make this even worse is having multiple people involved, which was almost the case in a bigger way than expected last week. Last week on SmackDown, Becky Lynch and Charlotte were involved in a backstage altercation over the final segment of the show. During a segment involving the two women trading their respective Women’s Titles, Charlotte dropped the title, which was seen as an embarrassment for Lynch. According to PWInsider.com, Sonya Deville, who was presiding over the segment, was ready to fight Charlotte backstage after the segment ended. This led to an argument between the two backstage, but nothing physical occurred. There is no word on any punishment for Charlotte over the incident so far. This could get bigger in a hurry. Check out what happened..

Backstage Reaction To New WWE Pay Per View Schedule

October 26, 2021 • Admin

It’s a topic of conversation. WWE holds a lot of events every year and tends to put them in major arenas. Occasionally they go even bigger than that though and holds them in an NFL size stadium. It can be interesting to see where WWE is going with their shows and that was the case again this week as they released their pay per view schedule for next year. That is the kind of thing that can get people talking, and that was the case in WWE this year too. According to Fightful Select, various WWE wrestlers are happy with the changes made to the pay per view schedule. This will include WrestleMania 38 being held over the counter of two nights instead of the usual one, which has been the case for the previous two years. There will also be additional pay per views on Saturday nights, as well as a United Kingdom pay per view in September. There will be some big shows on the calendar. Check out what has the wrestlers excited: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains v..

WATCH: WWE Star Debuts New Character On Monday Night Raw

October 26, 2021 • Admin

That’s a new way to go. Tournaments are as simple and easy of a concept as there is to understand in wrestling. While you see them happen on a regular basis, there are a few that stand out among the rest. Some of the bigger tournaments have quite the legacy of their own and that can go a long way for a lot of wrestlers. That seems to be the case again, as one tournament has given a wrestler a new direction. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured the coronation of Zelina Vega, who won the inaugural Queen’s Crown tournament last week at Crown Jewel. During her coronation, Vega began using an English accent, as Booker T. had done upon winning the King of the Ring in 2006, which led to him becoming King Booker. Vega went on to defeat Doudrop in a rematch of the tournament final while using her scepter as a weapon. This could be quite the change. Check out how Vega earned the crown, the coronation, and what she might be impersonating: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post..

October 26, 2021 • Admin

There are some left over. We are finally done with the in between period after the 2021 WWE Draft, meaning we now have the final rosters set. There are still some names who need to be assigned to a show, but it has already been done behind the scenes. There were several names not selected in this year’s WWE Draft and many have not appeared since. However, they have been assigned to brands on WWE’s internal charts. There is no word on when these wrestlers will return to TV or when the will be officially assigned to a brand. He’s up next. We are in a new era in WWE as the new Monday Night Raw and SmackDown rosters are now set after the Draft. WATCH: WWE Star Releases Brand New Music Video

October 26, 2021 • Admin

It’s another career. Wrestlers are often left in a weird place after their careers end, as they still have a lot of working years left. With wrestling careers often ending in a wrestler’s early 40s, they need to find another career for after their wrestling days are over. Some wrestlers have done this just fine, and one in particular is still working on something completely outside of wrestling. Monday Night Raw star R-Truth has released a music video for his new song Legacy. According to the song’s official description, the song focuses on the hardships that R-Truth has faced to become a successful wrestler and what he has planned for his future. R-Truth has been writing and recording music for years, including What’s Up, which he has used as his theme song for several years. He’s pretty good at this. We are done with the weird post Draft season, meaning everyone is here for good, assuming you ignore Becky Lynch going to Smackdown last week. We also need to start getting ready for Survivor Series, where it’s Raw vs. Smackdown again. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is Big E. to open things up and talk about how great it is to have the season premiere in a city like Houston, Texas. We get a LET’S GO ASTROS chant before Big E. congratulates Xavier Woods on winning the King of the Ring. He also needs to talk tip his cap to Drew McIntyre for pushing him even harder than expected at Crown Jewel. There is no rest for the weary though and now he needs a new challenger, so here is Seth Rollins to interrupt. Rollins thinks he should get a shot but Big E. poi..

Cody Rhodes Character Change On The Way In AEW?

October 25, 2021 • Admin

Cody Rhodes won the rubber match against recent rival Malakai Black. The victory came on the October 23 edition of AEW Dynamite, after a bout that many fans praised as the show stealer of the night. The match wasn’t without its issues however, as The American Nightmare received a massive amount of hate from the opening bell. The Orlando audience rained boos down upon Rhodes, who ultimately emerged with his arm raised in the end. Whether or not this feud is over is anyone’s guess. But the real question is, what happens with Cody Rhodes now? [This post contains video, click to play] Patriot Games The youngest son of Dusty Rhodes has become something of a polarizing figure over the past several months. Much of that is due to his own politics, which have become heavily integrated into his character. The “American” prefix of his nickname has taken center stage, highlighting a hyper-patriotic gimmick that seemed to come from out of nowhere. Of course for fans who have followed Cody sin..

WRESTLING RUMORS: More On Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch Backstage Confrontation

October 25, 2021 • Admin

There’s more to it than that. Every so often, something happens in wrestling that goes beyond what happens in front of the fans. A situation might take place during a match or segment that did not go as planned and it can spill over backstage. That was the case this week with two top WWE stars, and now it seems that the fallout could go even further than just those two. Following last week’s WWE SmackDown, Becky Lynch and Charlotte had a backstage altercation due to the show’s final segment not going as planned. Charlotte dropped the Raw Women’s Title instead of handing it to Lynch. According to Pro Wrestling Torch VIP, none of the WWE women’s division wants to work with Charlotte, either in the ring or in a promo or segment, which has been the case since before last week’s segment. Lynch is also being praised backstage for standing up to Charlotte, who has a reputation of being difficult to work with. There is no word on Charlotte being punished for the incident. It was quite the me..

October 25, 2021 • Admin

That would slow him down. The 2021 WWE Draft has come and gone and there were several changes made over the course of two nights. All kinds of wrestlers were moved from one show to another and we have now seen some of the moves become finalized as wrestlers have showed up on their new rosters. However, one of them will not be getting in the ring anytime soon for a good reason. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Ashante Thee Adonis of Hit Row will not be wrestling due to an unspecified medical condition.
