Screwy Finish Leads To Title Change During NXT UK

October 29, 2021 • Admin

History has been made! Championships are one of the most important parts of wrestling as they are about as easy of a concept as you can get. Someone has a championship and someone else wants it, setting up a title match between the two. You can go in a bunch of a directions from there, and that was the case again this week as a championship changed hands. Noam Dar defeated Tyler Bate to win the Heritage Cup during this week’s edition of NXT UK. Dar won the match by a score of 2-1 when Trent Seven accidentally threw the towel in to cost Bate the Cup. Dar received the shot after winning an eight man #1 contenders tournament held over the last several weeks and ends Bate’s reign at 160 days. This is Dar’s first title reign in WWE. It’s a big win for Dar. Check out how the match went and some of Dar’s other work: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is not exactly the biggest sur..

Last Minute Change Made To This Week’s AEW Dynamite, Original Plans

October 29, 2021 • Admin

It could have been different. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestling show and television changes as much as anything else. With so many wrestlers and stories that need to get onto the show, it can be easier said than done at times. On occasion, it can be even more difficult than it seems, and it turns out that this week saw a last minute change to a major show. The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw the Dark Order defeat the Super Elite in a match where both teams wore Halloween costumes. The Super Elite wore matching Ghostbusters costumes, but this was not the original plan. According to Fightful Select, the original plans called for the Super Elite to be dressed as characters from the Netflix series Squid Game. However, WarnerMedia and TNT said no, as they did not understand how much of a parody the Squid Game costumes would be. There is no heat between the two sides over the change. It was an interesting match. Check out the costumes, plus what the teams..

WWE Hall Of Famer Announces Prostate Cancer, Undergoing Surgery

October 29, 2021 • Admin

There is never a good way to put this. Wrestlers are larger than life figures but they are real people when the cameras go off. That means they are going to have things that take place in their lives that are not the best situations in the world, and unfortunately it seems that we are seeing another such problem. This time though, it could be about as serious as it can get. WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Hacksaw Jim Duggan has revealed that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. In the video announcement, Duggan says that he is undergoing emergency surgery on Friday October 29. This comes in the same month that Duggan had another emergency surgery for an undisclosed issue. Duggan has previously beaten kidney cancer in the 1990s. Duggan is quite the legend. You Won’t Be Hearing From Charlotte As Much For A Little While

October 28, 2021 • Admin

They don’t seem happy. With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, you are going to have some instances of wrestlers not having things go as the company would plan. At some point, someone is going to have some issues and that was certainly the case last week. Now it seems that something that happened backstage is causing some changes to WWE’s plans. Last week, Becky Lynch and Charlotte had a backstage altercation over Charlotte dropping the Raw Women’s Title during a segment between the two on SmackDown. After the incident, reports began to come out saying that Charlotte was not in the best standing backstage. According to Sean Ross Sapp, Charlotte was scheduled to do media appearances for WWE this week, but those appearances have since been canceled. It is not confirmed that the incident directly led to the changes. Major Changes Expected When Ring Of Honor Returns

October 28, 2021 • Admin

They have a future. The biggest wrestling story of the week was what seemed to be the near destruction of Ring of Honor, which has gone from one of the more important promotions to apparently almost nothing, as most of their roster has been released. The company has announced plans to return in April, but it was not clear what they would be doing. Now we know a bit more about what to expect. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the plan for Ring of Honor’s return will be to use whatever independent wrestlers they can find for their shows. These wrestlers would not be under contract, meaning that there would be nothing stopping other promotions from signing them, which could change storylines and title situations. This basically makes the promotion an independent wrestling company again, though Sinclair has not canceled their television show. The company had some glory days. Check out some of their better moments: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vide..

REVIEW: Tuesday Night Titans – November 13, 1984: Talk To Me

October 28, 2021 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Tuesday Night Titans Date: November 13, 1984 Location: Video One Studios, Owings Mills, Maryland Hosts: Vince McMahon, Lord Alfred Hayes Another request here, partially so I can say I’ve done an episode of this show. This is a bit of a different show as it’s mainly a talk show with wrestling guests. There would be matches included, though this isn’t exactly the best time period from a quality standpoint. I’m not entirely sure what to expect here but that’s the kind of show Tuesday Night Titans was. Let’s get to it..

WRESTLING RUMORS: News On Bron Breakker’s NXT Future

October 28, 2021 • Admin

Plans change. You never know what kind of surprises you might see in wrestling and that can be both good and bad. Sometimes something will catch you off guard and can change what you think you will be seeing next. However, it might also seem like something happens that derails entire plans. That seemed to be the case this week, but it might not be as confusing as it seems. The main event of this week’s NXT Halloween Havoc saw Tommaso Ciampa successfully defeat Bron Breakker to retain the NXT Title. Prior to the match, the WrestleVotes Twitter account had said that the match would be the start of the Breakker era in NXT. Following the loss, another WrestleVotes tweet said that the loss is part of Breakker’s rise to the top of NXT. While there was a discussion about Breakker winning the title, the decision was ultimately made to have Ciampa retain. There is no word on when Breakker will win the title. Source states that tonight’s Halloween Havoc looks to be the launching of the Bron Br..

Bizarre Explanation For Why NXT Team Is Suddenly Being Booed

October 28, 2021 • Admin

This is one for the books. NXT 2.0 has been quite the game changer for the NXT brand and some would argue that it has not been the best move. This is a completely different NXT after so many years of success under the old format. There are certain people who are associated with the old NXT and it turns out that some of them are influencing the modern version to this day. In recent weeks, former NXT Tag Team Champions MSK have been inexplicably booed during all of their appearances. The team has not undergone a heel turn or anything close to it, leaving little explanation for the reaction. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the reason stems from the parents of Bayley superfan Izzy, who regularly appeared during shows when Bayley was part of NXT. In 2018, MSK’s Nash Carter sent out a tweet criticizing the decision to allow Izzy, then thirteen years old, to take a chokeslam at an independent event. As a result, Izzy’s parents have convinced the current NXT fans to boo Carter anytime..

MMA Fighter Slams Her AEW Appearance, Calls Wrestling “So Stupid”

October 28, 2021 • Admin

I guess she isn’t a fan. Wrestling is in a weird place when it comes to athletics. While it is certainly an athletic field, it is not exactly the same as traditional sports. The endings to wrestling matches are determined in advance and that is something that a lot of people are not going to like. It seems to be the case with a more mainstream athlete who appeared on a recent wrestling show. One of the bigger stories taking place in AEW at the moment is the rivalry between Dan Lambert and the American Top Team mixed martial arts fighters and the Inner Circle. Several mixed martial artists have appeared in the angle, including Kayla Harrison. However, in an interview with Jim Varsallone, Harrison has said that she will not be back, saying that fighters who keep going back to wrestling are “yahoos” and described wrestling as “so stupid” and “so silly”. Harrison made one appearance in the angle and did not return. That’s a rather hard no. Check out how the angle has gone so far: [This ..

WWE Might Be Making A Permanent WrestleMania Change

October 28, 2021 • Admin

Stretch it out. We are coming up on the end of 2021 and that means it is time to start getting ready for the new year. That is the case in the wrestling world as well, as we are almost on the Road to WrestleMania. As a result, it is time to start making plans for the biggest night of the year, but it turns out that we might be seeing something different going forward. Earlier this week, WWE announced some official details on next year’s WrestleMania 38, including that the show will take place over two nights instead of one. This will be the third straight year that WrestleMania will be a two night event. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this will likely be the case with every WrestleMania going forward, including WrestleMania 39 in Los Angeles in 2023. WrestleMania has done well as a two night event. Check out what happens when the show is split up: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play]..

Funny Video: Kayla Braxton Is Paul Heyman For Halloween

October 28, 2021 • Admin

Tis the season. Wrestlers often have a tricky job as they have to be a mixture of athletes, actors and characters, all at the same time. There are so many people involved in a wrestling production that you are going to see some people who are better than others at each job. This time around, we are seeing someone who is very good at the lighter side, and they are showcasing themselves well. One of the best stories going in all of WWE at the moment is the backstage banter between Paul Heyman and interviewer Kayla Braxton. The two have quite the chemistry together, with Braxton enjoying needling Heyman when he is stressed and Heyman accusing Braxton of having a crush on him. This has led to quite the tribute and it happens to coincide with Halloween. Check out what Braxton has done, plus the two of them together: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is one of the most entertaini..

New Matches Set For AEW Full Gear, Another Match Changed

October 28, 2021 • Admin

It’s still growing. We are only a few weeks away from AEW Full Gear and that means it is time to start putting everything together. You can see most of the card already and that means AEW only needs to add in a few more things. That is one of the more interesting parts of a pay per view build but now they have added in a few more pieces to the card as a whole. There were two new matches added to the Full Gear card during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite, plus a previously announced match had a stipulation added. First up, the returning Darby Allin challenged Maxwell Jacob Friedman to a grudge match at Full Gear. This comes after Friedman attacked Allin a few weeks back, putting Allin on the shelf. The match was confirmed later in the night. Next, the Lucha Bros accepted FTR’s challenge for the AEW Tag Team Titles. This comes after FTR defeated the Lucha Bros for the AAA Tag Team Titles earlier in the month. Finally, Sammy Guevara defeated Ethan Page to retain the TNT Title. As a r..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – October 20, 2021

October 28, 2021 • Admin

Ring of Honor Date: October 20, 2021 Location: 2300 Arena, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We’re still in the post Death Before Dishonor TV taping and that means we still have no crowd. I know Ring of Honor likes to do their marathon tapings but isn’t there some way we could get some fans in there for a change? It has made a world of difference for everyone else and the fans not being there makes Ring of Honor seem like a promotion from another universe. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay (hey she’s back) welcomes us to the show and gives us the preview. Tag Team Titles: Soldiers of Savagery vs. Dragon Lee/Kenny King Lee and King are defending. The Soldiers jump them to start so the champs bail to the floor for an early breather. We settle down to Lee getting in Moses’ face for no effect. It’s the Soldiers being sent outside for a change and that means the champs get to hit the Tranquilo pose. Back in and Khan runs King over for t..

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – October 27, 2021

October 28, 2021 • Admin

Dynamite Date: October 27, 2021 Location: Agganis Arena, Boston, Massachusetts Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur We’re closing out October and that means Full Gear is coming up next month. Most of the card is either already booked or pretty obvious (Tony Khan’s notebook is available if you need some pointers) but we still need to fill in some gaps. As for tonight, it’s CM Punk’s in-ring Dynamite debut against Bobby Fish. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. CM Punk vs. Bobby Fish It’s Fish’s birthday and Punk’s birthday was yesterday for a bit of trivia. JR says Fish is an 18 year veteran so he won’t be blown out of the water. Feeling out process to start with Fish going after the leg and pulling him down into a chinlock. Punk fights up and fires off knees in the corner, setting up the slow motion slams, which he has somehow turned into a thing. Fish kicks the leg out again though and scores with a slingshot hilo for two. Punk fights up and sends him outside for the s..

KB’s Review: They Go With Honor

October 27, 2021 • Admin

So I was trying to come up with something to talk about this week and the best thing I could think of was the Monday Night Raw tag division. Yeah. As you might be able to see, this hasn’t exactly been the most thrilling week as far as top stories go, but then everything changed all of a sudden as I was getting ready, and now I think I have something to talk about. On Wednesday, Ring of Honor announced that they were going on hiatus following this December’s Final Battle event. Following the hiatus, they will return with a “new mission”, but most of the wrestlers will be allowed to wrestle elsewhere as they will be released from their contracts. The plan is to come back with Supercard of Honor in April, though it is not clear who will actually be appearing on the show. Now, you can use words like “hiatus” and “new” all you want, but there is one underlying reality here: Ring of Honor, at least as we know it, is gone. They might come back in April with a promotion called Ring of Honor,..

Ring Of Honor Going On Hiatus, Wrestlers Being Released From Contracts

October 27, 2021 • Admin

That doesn’t sound good. The Coronavirus pandemic changed the way the world worked, including professional wrestling. Almost everything underwent some kind of a change and some of those changes are still being felt today. While some things are back to normal, there are still a few pieces that need to be adjusted, and now we are seeing some of the fallout for one company. Ring of Honor Wrestling has announced that they will be going on hiatus following the December 11 Final Battle event. The company’s statement, released on Twitter, says that the company has kept everyone full contracted for 18 months without running a live event. They now need to change their business operations and pivot to a new strategy and mission. The company will take the first quarter of 2022 to make changes and plans to return in April 2022 with Supercard of Honor. In addition, Dave Meltzer is reporting that Ring of Honor has released all of its wrestlers from their contracts. According to PWInsider.com, seve..

Trish Stratus Is Getting A Very Cool New Job

October 27, 2021 • Admin

It’s a new path. Wrestlers are in a weird place when it comes to celebrity status. While they are often on national television, they are often only known for being wrestlers. That often limits what kind of star power they can have, though every now and then you see someone move a few steps beyond. Now we are going to see a wrestling legend moving into a new field. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus has announced that she will be a guest judge on the upcoming reboot of Canada’s Got Talent. The series will premiere in early 2022 after being off the air since 2012. Stratus will be one of the four judges, along with Howie Mandel, Kardinal Offishall and Lilly Singh. Stratus retired from WWE in 2006 but has returned for some short term appearances in the years since. Stratus certainly had talent. Check out what she did in her WWE career: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is always ..

Family Affair: Details On Upcoming WWE Heel Turn

October 27, 2021 • Admin

That’s one way to go. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestler, but sometimes something needs to be changed. Whether it is due to something going wrong or something that just changes over time, there are instances when a wrestler needs something fresh. One of the best ways to fix this problem is by turning a wrestler from good to bad or vice versa, which is what we might be seeing again soon. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE’s current plan is for Dominik Mysterio to turn on his father Rey Mysterio. However, before the turn can take place, Dominik will have to lose several matches in advance. Dominik has not won a televised singles match since the May 21 edition of SmackDown, though he and Rey have won tag team matches since then. There is also still the chance that WWE could drop the story entirely. Dominik does have some potential. Check out some of his time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This pos..

Bad Sign About WWE’s Communication Issues With Its Wrestlers

October 27, 2021 • Admin

They might need to work on that. Despite being the undisputed biggest wrestling promotion in the world, there is no denying that there are some problems in WWE. The company is certainly not as popular as it once was and there are a lot of areas where they need to improve. Some of these are behind the scenes, and that seems to have been the case again with a recent major event. Earlier this year, WWE held the annual WWE Draft, which featured some tag teams being split up. According to Fightful Select, some WWE employees pushed to keep teams together but were ignored, save for AJ Styles and Omos. Wrestlers whose teams were split were asking what the storyline logic was behind splitting teams up but were told that it didn’t matter. Finally some of the teams only learned that they were split up through social media rather than being told in advance. There is no word on which teams received this treatment. Some of the teamed work well together. Check out some of the teams who were drafted..

October 27, 2021 • Admin

Nice to meet you. There are certain wrestling families that you are always going to see pop up over the years. Some of them are among the most famous names in all of the industry and it can mean a lot when you see the next generation come up. It can be made even better when you easily tell that you are seeing a new family member and now we are seeing the next part of a classic wrestling family. This week’s NXT featured the debut of Solo Sikoa, who is part of the Anoa’i wrestling family. Sikoa interrupted a segment between LA Knight and Grayson Waller, attacking both of them to clear out the ring. Sikoa joined WWE earlier in the year and is the younger brother of the Usos. His appearance was advertised in advance and he appeared in something similar to mixed martial arts gear. There is no word on when Sikoa is scheduled to have his first match. He’s the new generation.
