Main Event Results – May 24, 2018

•

Main Event Date: May 24, 2018 Location: Times Union Center, Albany, New York Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Vic Joseph, Percy Watson I’m out of ways to say that this show is going to be all about Money in the Bank qualifying matches. Those things have dominated Monday Night Raw and Smackdown for the last few weeks now and it’s burned out a lot of my interest in the upcoming pay per view. It says a lot when the Main Event original content needs to bail us out. Let’s get to it. Here are last week’s results if you need a recap. Opening sequence. Brian Kendrick/Jack Gallagher vs. Lince Dorado/Kalisto Kendrick uses an early Gallagher distraction to take Kalisto down in the corner to start. A backbreaker keeps Kalisto in trouble and let’s talk about the Cruiserweight Title match. Kendrick can’t get the Captain’s Hook so it’s off to Gallagher (no longer in Slytherin green), who is backdropped in a hurry. That’s not enough for a hot tag though as Gallagher runs over ..

Tonight though we’ll be seeing a battle of the strikers as Hideo Itami faces Akira Tozawa in a battle over their issues during tag team matches of late. Let’s get to it. Here are last week’s results if you need a recap. We open with a look at Itami vs. Tozawa with Itami saying he didn’t like their time together. Why did Itami need a partner in the first place? Opening sequence. Drew Gulak vs. Gran Metalik Before the match, Gulak says he’s taking down another member of Lucha House Party. They can flip and dive all they want but if they step to him, they’ll tap out. Hang on though as here are Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher for commentary. First Match Set For Takeover: Chicago II

•

That’s a heck of a start. With less than a month to go before Takeover: Chicago II, there isn’t actually anything on the card. You can guess what some of the matches will be just by paying attention to television, but you need something a little concrete on the card instead of matches that might take place. WWE seems to have picked up o the lack of matches and added one the day after TV instead of just announcing it on the air, but at least it’s something. As announced today on WWE.com, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch will be challenging the Undisputed Era’s Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly. The match was set up last week with Lorcan and Burch scoring a pin in a six man tag also involving Pete Dunne, defeating the Undisputed Era, also including Adam Cole. Lorcan and Burch have been helping Dunne in his quest for revenge after Dunne turned on him at Takeover: New Orleans, costing Dunne the Tag Team Titles in the process. Major Update Regarding CM Punk’s Status For ‘All In’

•

Ever since the upcoming ‘All In’ show was confirmed for Chicago, the wrestling world has been questioning if the event will see the long-awaited return of CM Punk to the squared circle. Even with the show three months away, speculation is at a fever pitch. The night before ‘All In,’ Punk will sign autographs in accordance with the show at the Pro Wrestling Tees store. By all appearances, the “Best in the World” is preparing for his return to wrestling and it’s easier to speculate when he’s literally being seen backstage. Related: Why CM Punk May Be Involved In The ‘All In’ Show In September Jenn Decker recently appeared on the Collider Bodyslam podcast and confirmed Punk was backstage during the press conference she hosted for ‘All In.’ Of course, there are several reasons why he could have been behind the scenes. However, that is not going to stop wrestling fans from speculating for the next few months about his involvement. The fact is that wrestling fans would be ecstatic if the..

Impact Wrestling Live Coverage And Results – May 24, 2018

•

Impact Wrestling Date: May 24, 2018 Location: Impact Zone, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Josh Matthews, Don Callis We’re back to an old problem that this show has had many times before: not much is really standing out. Sure there’s some good stuff going on, but it’s not exactly sticking as something that leaves much of an impact. The big stories are still Austin Aries vs. Pentagon Jr. and Sami Callihan vs. Eddie Edwards, but they’re both starting to feel a bit long. Let’s get to it. We open with a long and rather detailed recap of last week’s show. Opening sequence. OVE vs. Drago/Aerostar Drago wastes no time in diving onto everyone with a corkscrew dive and Aerostar adds a springboard trust fall dive. They head inside for the opening bell and Jake kicks Drago in the head. We hit a very early chinlock but Aerostar comes in for the save. A dropkick to the face keeps Dave in trouble but Jake kicks away to take over. We go split screen to show Eddie Edwards arri..

Here’s What Could Bring The Rock Back Full-Time to WWE

•

Aside from a very brief match with Erick Rowan in Dallas, The Rock has not wrestled a full match since WrestleMania 29. He hasn’t even appeared on WWE television in over two years, but the WWE Universe continues to hope he will wrestle again eventually. Unfortunately, The Great One’s commitments to Hollywood and insurance policies make it very difficult for him to make an appearance unless he clears time in his schedule. On paper, there’s no reason for him to wrestle again, but here’s what could bring him back. Related: Vince McMahon Has Reportedly Canceled a ‘WrestleMania’ Concert With the Rock and Elias According to PWInsider Radio, Mike Johnson was speculating about The Rock’s future in wrestling and it’s clear the only thing that would bring him back to the squared circle would be The People’s Champion himself. If he wanted to wrestle another match, WWE officials would be over the moon because the company can always use his star power. The truth is The Great One can’t and won’t..

How The Styles vs. Nakamura Stipulation Changed NXT Booking

•

It was confirmed during SmackDown Live this week that Shinsuke Nakamura will be facing AJ Styles at Money In The Bank in a Last Man Standing Match. NXT Takeover: Chicago II Tickets Not Selling Well

•

When you can’t beat All In. One of the biggest stories of the wrestling year (and probably far higher than that) is the fact that Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks sold out the Sears Center in Chicago for their upcoming All In event. It’s a big city and that’s a big arena, but it’s not the only wrestling coming there this year. Next month, WWE will be in town for Money in the Bank and of course an NXT Takeover special. However, one of these things is not like All In. According to ringsidenews.com, while the Money in the Bank show is selling quite well, Takeover: Chicago II is currently sitting at about 7,000 tickets sold. The site of the show, the Allstate Arena, holds about 18,000 people for wrestling events and has hosted a WrestleMania before. It should be noted that as of this morning, no matches have been announced for Takeover: Chicago II. I bet this would sell some tickets. Johnny Impact To Appear on “Survivor” In The Fall

•

Wrestling to surviving on an island is a natural progression, right? It was announced last night on the Season 36 Finale of Survivor, that current Impact superstar Johnny Impact will be one of the castaways on the upcoming 37th season of the show. Filmed in Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands, the show will air this fall on CBS. This had been rumored a couple of weeks ago, but was confirmed last night. However, she didn’t last very long, as she was the second person voted out of the game. You can see a preview of the upcoming season, which features a clip of Impact, below: [This post contains video, click to play] Editor’s Opinion: This is fantastic! Update on Jason Jordan’s Return to WWE

•

It had been previously reported that Jason Jordan underwent neck surgery back in February, and has been out of action since then. According to a report from PWInsider, Jordan is scheduled to be at this week’s Raw from Richmond, Virginia. It is unknown at this time if he will be used on camera, or is just going to be backstage. Jordan has been off of WWE Programming since the February 5 episode of Raw, when General Manager, and father, Kurt Angle, sent him home. You can see that clip below: [This post contains video, click to play] He was one half of the tag team champions, along with his partner Seth Rollins, to begin the year. However, the injury forced them to drop the titles to The Bar at the 2018 Royal Rumble event. Editor’s Opinion: I hope that he is back sooner rather than later. Now that Chad Gable is on Raw, there are plenty of storylines available to Jordan. He could either reform American Alpha, or perhaps feud with his former tag team partner, or continue to feel like ..

Save the date. Tournaments have always held a special place in wrestling fans’ hearts but now they’ve turned into a much bigger deal in WWE. Now, we might know the taping dates for another major WWE tournament later this year. Big Show: “My Quality Of Life Is Really Good, I’m Better Than I Have In The Past 18 Years.”

•

Raw Superstar The Big Show was recently a guest on The Steve Austin Show, where he discussed his recovery after hip surgery and why Vince McMahon was upset with him at WrestleMania 21. Show first explained how he is feeling, given that he has been out for a hip replacement: “Right now, [my] quality of life is really good. There’s no stiffness. My range of motion is ridiculous. I’m not done in the ring yet. Hell, I’m 380 lbs. I feel now, especially in my hip, has more range of motion now, and I’m faster than I moved in 17 [or] 18 years. I wrestled with Fit Finlay a little bit at WrestleMania. Yeah, I got in there and rolled around the ring with Fit and the doctor. And Fit was laughing. He was like, ‘you’re fast again’, which made me feel good because my mobility is back and I had lost so much mobility before. Fit laughed at me and he goes, ‘yeah, you used to lean to the left and go that way or lean to the right and go that way’ because I couldn’t. I didn’t have the ability to plant my f..

Daniel Bryan Reveals Who He Believes Is The Best Wrestler Today

•

SmackDown Live Superstar Daniel Bryan was recently interviewed by SPORTbible in the U.K. where he revealed who he believes the best wrestler in the world is right now. Bryan first confirmed whether he felt any ring rust getting back in the squared circle: “I honestly didn’t feel any ring rust. It was strange because the day I was cleared, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens attacked me and I did the running dropkicks – just dropkick, dropkick, dropkick. You have to understand, I wasn’t prepared for this to happen. I’m wearing the shoes which I’m wearing now – which are from a thrift store and they’re a half size too big! I was wearing a sportscoat and I haven’t done the dropkick in the corner for three years – it’s a very exhausting thing to do because you’re sprinting, running, jumping and then kick. “I was a little bit concerned but that night I didn’t feel tired or anything, I was excited, it was fun. Same thing at Wrestlemania, I felt like nothing felt weird or awkward – everything felt lik..
