Roman Reigns Explains Amazing Summerslam Catch

•

He can do it all. The last two plus years of WWE have been dominated by Roman Reigns. Surrounded by the Bloodline, Reigns has been the Tribal Chief of WWE since he won the Universal Title in August 2019. There is nothing to suggest that he will be losing the title anytime soon, but at one point during his title reign, he did something rather impressive that earned some extra attention. The main event of Summerslam 2022 saw Reigns successfully defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Title against Brock Lesnar. Before the match, Lesnar threw a microphone at Reigns, who caught it with one hand. Reigns was asked about the catch on the Impaulsive podcast and credited the catch to his baseball career. He also winked at Lesnar after the catch, which was not picked up on camera. It was a heck of a catch. Check out Reigns’ one handed catch: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That catch was one of those things that you might not have seen it live but once you see the replay, you..

REVIEW: New Japan Lonestar Shootout: Half Of A Heck Of A Night

•

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Lonestar Shootout Date: April 1, 2022 Location: Fairmont Hotel, Dallas, Texas Attendance: 582 Commentators: Kevin Kelly, Matthew Rehwoldt So this is an interesting one as it is part of the NJPW Strong promotion, but there were two shows taped here. First up was the Lonestar Shootout special, followed by a regular TV show. That wasn’t mentioned during the night so this will be split in two rather than the one night that I watched it live. Let’s get to it. I don’t follow New Japan Strong so I apologize in advance f..

Here’s What WWE Didn’t Have Planned For Cody Rhodes Before His Injury

•

That was the idea? Earlier this year at WrestleMania 38, Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE. Rhodes went on to defeat Seth Rollins multiple times, including inside Hell In A cell with a torn pectoral muscle. This led to Rhodes becoming one of the biggest stars in the company as he had to go on the shelf to recover from his injury. But what was planned before he left? According to Fightful Select, there was nothing to suggest that Rhodes was going to win the WWE Championship before he was injured. Those plans would have still been under Vince McMahon, who was said to be “all on board” with keeping the WWE World Titles on Roman Reigns. There is no word on if the plans have changed since McMahon’s retirement and the rise of a new regime in WWE. Opinion: I’m not sure if I should be surprised by this or not, as Rhodes did come back as a big deal, but there is a difference between being a star and being the star of the company. Maybe that would change in the coming months when Rhodes gets ..

Former NXT Star Returns To Company In New Role

•

Back in the fold. There have been a lot of returns to WWE in recent months and those do not seem to be coming to an end. Following Triple H’s return to power in recent months, several former WWE and NXT stars have returned to the company in one form or another. That can make for some very nice moments and now we might be seeing it happen again, at least in the short form. According to PWInsider.com, former NXT Tag Team Champion Biff Busick, formerly known as Oney Lorcan, was back at the WWE Performance Center as a guest coach. The stint is only in a guest role and there is no word on if Busick will be back with the company full time. Busick was released from WWE in November 2021 along with several other wrestlers as part of WWE’s string of releases. Opinion: I’m not sure if Busick is going to be brought back to WWE full time but he is someone with more than enough talent to have some kind of a place in the company. It makes sense to have someone like him back as a coach, even for a s..

Another WWE Star Out Of Action With Injury

•

That could slow him down. There are few things in wrestling that are as unfortunate as an injury. Someone can be on an absolute roll and have everything slowed down all at once. One of the worst parts is having to wait awhile before the severity is known, as some injuries can keep a star on the shelf for a long time. Hopefully that isn’t the case again, as a WWE star is hurt. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured a match between Angelo Dawkins and Solo Sikoa. Dawkins’ partner Montez Ford accompanied him to the ring, albeit with his foot in a cast. There is no word on how severe Ford’s injury is, when it took place or how long he will be out of action. Ford last wrestled on the September 25 WWE live event when the Street Profits defeated the Alpha Academy. Opinion: That is never something you want to see and what matters the most is that Ford is able to get back in the ring sooner rather than later. Ford is an amazing athlete but there is only so much that you can do on one good leg. ..

Monday Night Raw Results – October 3, 2022

•

Monday Night Raw Date: October 3, 2022 Location: Xcel Energy Center, St. Paul, Minnesota Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton It’s the go home show for Extreme Rules and the show is mostly set. However, it still doesn’t feel like there is anything that stands out as a main event. I would assume it’s going to be the Fight Pit between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle, but the card feels like it is lacking something even if there isn’t much room for anything else. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Here is Judgment Day for a chat before their match. Finn Balor is ready to beat Edge so badly that Edge will quit right then and there. Damian Priest promises to take out anyone who comes for them. Dominik gets the mic and is greeted by a WHO’S YOUR DADDY chant. He hates Rey Mysterio and says he has a new family now, thanks to the Judgment Day. Balor says he could have taken Edge out last night, corrects himself to say last week, and offers one more olive branch. Cue AJ Styles t..

WWE Star Returns To Original Gimmick, What It Means For Former Stable

•

That’s a different way to go. Wrestlers need to have the right gimmick to make things work out for them as well as possible. Having the wrong name or character can wreck a wrestler’s potential and that is one of the worst things that can take place. Unfortunately it happens more often than it should, but WWE is making an adjustment to one of its newer stars. Last week on SmackDown, Max Dupri walked away from the Maximum Male Models after being sick of them not being serious enough. Dupri also used his former “YEAH” catchphrase from his time as LA Knight in NXT. According to PWInsider.com, Dupri is internally listed as Knight and will be using that gimmick going forward. The rest of the Maximum Male Models will be continuing without Dupri. Opinion: Good, as the Dupri stuff never really worked out for Knight. I’m not sure what the point was in having Knight become someone completely different when he could still be his old self and do the Models stuff. This might not be the big secret ..

WWE And AEW Both Interested In Top Independent Star

•

He has their attention. There are all kinds of wrestlers throughout the world today and while the stars of AEW and WWE get the most attention, they are not the only stars out there. Several very talented stars wrestle around the world every day and can catch the eye of the two main promotions. That took place again last week in one of the most unique ways you will see. Last week on AEW Dynamite, Bandido unsuccessfully challenged Chris Jericho for the Ring Of Honor World Title. As previously reported, AEW offered Bandido a full time contract after the match. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE was so impressed with Bandido’s performance that they were trying to get his phone number before his match was done. There is no word on if Bandido is interested in working for WWE or if he has come to terms with AEW. Opinion: I certainly can’t blame WWE for being interested in having Bandido come into the fold. He is one of the most talented wrestlers not on either roster at the moment a..

WATCH: Darby Allin’s Latest Insane Stunt (From 92 Feet In The Air)

•

He’s a stunt guy. There are certain wrestlers who are best known for the stunts that they do rather than the matches that they have. During a match, you will see something take place that blows your mind but tends to be pretty run of the mill for whomever does it. Then there are some who do these kind of things outside of the ring and that has happened again for an AEW star. AEW’s Darby Allin has released a new video showing what he describes as a “slip and fall” off of a 92 foot waterfall into the water below. The video features Allin’s dive as two people watch from nearby, seemingly standing in the water. There is no indication of where the waterfall is located. Allin last wrestled on the Grand Slam edition of Rampage where he and Sting defeated the House of Black. Yeah this is a bit much. Check out Allin’s dive: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: As someone who is not quite comfortable with heights, this is about as terrifying of a concept as I can fathom. Allin ..

Speculation Over Surprising Name For Brock Lesnar’s Next Opponent

•

That would certainly be different. There is no one in wrestling history like Brock Lesnar and there never will be again. Lesnar has a blend of amateur wrestling abilities, charisma and natural strength that may never be matched and WWE sees to know it. WWE has presented Lesnar as the ultimate monster and that means it is difficult to find opponents for him. Now though, they might have an idea. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE may be considering UFC Hall Of Famer Daniel Cormier as Lesnar’s next opponent. Cormier and Lesnar had a staredown in the UFC but never fought each other. A longtime wrestling fan, Cormier is set to be the guest referee for the Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at Extreme Rules on October 8. Lesnar has not wrestled for WWE since Summerslam. Opinion: This does make a bit of sense as Cormier is the kind of person who could serve as a real threat to Lesnar while still being a threat. That being said, the Cain Velasquez deal didn’t exactl..

LOOK: Seth Rollins’ Unlikely Shield Replacements

•

The new wave? Stables are a way for a wrestling promotion to put stars together in a group and see what they can do. It has long since been a way to make things less complicated and some of the more iconic moments in wrestling have something to do with a stable. This is still the case in modern times and we got a strange call back to one of them over the weekend at a WWE live event. Over the weekend, WWE ran a live event in Bismarck, North Dakota. The show’s main event saw the Miz, Seth Rollins and Austin Theory team up against Kevin Owens, Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Lashley. During the match, Lashley was knocked down, leaving Rollins to lead his partners in the Shield’s fist pose. Lashley and company would come back to win the match, which served as the show’s main event. But now it’s turned into a six team tag match between with @fightbobby teaming with @HEELZiggler and Kevin Owens against @_Theory1, @WWERollins and @mikethemiz #wwebismarck pic.twitter.com/QJyFuT4Ttg — The Willster (..

AEW Star Hints At Wanting To Leave Company (And He Might!)

•

Out the door? The AEW roster is comprised of all kinds of talented wrestlers, some of whom are well known names who have been around the world for several years now. Those are the stars that AEW will often present for the sake of expanding to as big of an audience as possible. That is not going to work forever though and now a star is hinting that he wants out of the company. Last week on AEW Rampage, Andrade El Idolo challenged 10 of the Dark Order to a mask vs. career match on this week’s show. After the announcement, El Idolo’s manager Jose The Assistant sent out a tweet thanking him for everything in AEW. Later, a fan tweeted to El Idolo that he hoped 10 won the match, with which El Idolo agreed. This comes amid rumors of El Idolo being unhappy in AEW and wanting to leave, though there is nothing to suggest he will be moving on from the company. You are one of the best in ring competitors, I learned a great amount working alongside you. You brought me to #AEW and I stand by your ..

WWE’s Carmella Debunks Story Of Explicit Video Featuring Her And Corey Graves

•

That’s an important detail. Wrestlers can be celebrities in that they are known public figures who are often on television but that can also cause some issues. It means that there are going to be instances of people trying to stir up problems, some of which have to be dealt with immediately. That was the case over the weekend, with one of the wrestlers themselves taking care of the situation. Over the last few days, an explicit video allegedly featuring WWE’s Carmella and Corey Graves has circulated online. However, Carmella has since commented on the video, saying that the video was Photoshopped to look like the two of them. This includes tattoos that were not in the original but have been added to resemble Carmella and Graves. Carmella is currently out of action with an injury and it is not clear when she will be able to return to the ring. Y’all really wanna see me fail, huh?? Photoshop is on another level these days… ? NXT Stars Get Married Over The Weekend In International Ceremony

•

That’s great to hear! Wrestlers have some very difficult schedules, as they are regularly on the road for events rather than getting to stay in one place. That is not the easiest situation in the world as it leaves little time for their personal lives. This would especially include their romantic relationships, but sometimes it can wind up working out. It certainly did this weekend. NXT correspondent McKenzie Mitchell revealed on Instagram that she and NXT commentator Vic Joseph were married this weekend in Florence, Italy. The two had been engaged since November 2021 but had not announced a date for their wedding. There is no word on if the two will be missing any time from their work on NXT or who could fill in for them if they are gone. Verdict Reached In Randy Orton Tattoo Trial, Amount Of Money Awarded

•

And that’s that. WWE has long since become the biggest wrestling company in the world and as a result the company has more money than they know what to do with most of the time. That is quite the accomplishment, but it also means that they have a target on them with others trying to take some of that money from them. Now someone is going to, but it might not be what they had in mind. Back in 2018, tattoo artist Catherine Alexander sued WWE, Take-Two Interactive Software and the developers of the WWE2K video game series. The suit was filed claiming copyright infringement over tattoos that Alexander created for Randy Orton, which appeared in the game. WWE and the game’s producers claimed that the tattoos fell under fair use while Alexander claimed that she never gave permission for the tattoos to be used. According to PWInsider.com, the case came to trial last week and the jury found in favor of Alexander, awarding her $3,750 but no royalties from the game sales. Opinion: It may sound ..

More Details On Ricky Steamboat’s Return To The Ring

•

That would be big. There are a lot of ways to wrap up a wrestling career and some of them can be very respectful for everyone involved. Every wrestler wants to go out on a high note but sometimes they will also want to prove that they still have what it takes to be in the ring, even one more time. That is what a legend is going to be doing later this year and now we know a bit more about the match. Earlier this year, it was announced that Ricky The Dragon Steamboat would be wrestling his final match later this year for Big Time Wrestling in Raleigh, North Carolina. The promotion has now announced that the match will be a six man tag, featuring Steamboat and FTR taking on Jay Lethal, Brock Anderson and a mystery partner, with Arn Anderson managing the team. The show takes place on November 27. It's the "Return of the Dragon" on Sunday, November 27 at the Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC! UFC Legend Set To Appear At WWE Extreme Rules In Special Role

•

He’s a big one to add. Wrestling has a unique reputation in sports, as the wrestlers are seen as athletes but not in a legitimate competition. They can clearly do things that most people can’t, but they do not have the most respect when it comes to other athletes. It can mean something to have more accepted sports stars engage with wrestling, and that will be happening again next week. Ariel Helwani has announced via his Twitter that former UFC Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier will serve as guest referee for the upcoming Fight Pit match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at WWE Extreme Rules. Cormier is a long time wrestling fan who has talked about doing something with WWE. Extreme Rules is scheduled for next Saturday, October 8. AEW Signs Another Former World Heavyweight Champion

Another one for the collection. One of AEW’s greatest strengths has been its roster. The company has been built on the amount of wrestlers that it has and the variety that it is able to present. AEW President Tony Khan has announced that Rush has officially signed a contract with the company. WWE Teases John Cena’s Next Match On SmackDown

•

Now there’s a tease. WWE has a long history of stars on its roster but there are times when they need to bring someone new into the fold. That can be easier said than done, but one of the best things that they can do is have a legend give a rub to an up and coming star. Now it seems that WWE is laying the groundwork for such a change on the biggest stage around. Mr. Money in the Bank Austin Theory made a surprise appearance this week on SmackDown. During the show, Michael Cole praised Theory’s abilities, but said that he needed “an attitude adjustment”. This would seem to continue to point to a future match between Theory and John Cena, which has been rumored since Cena and Theory had a backstage confrontation earlier this year on Monday Night Raw. Opinion: This is something that seems to have been set up more than once and it wouldn’t surprise me to see the match take place at WrestleMania 39. Cena is known for working with some of the up and coming stars and Theory could certainly ..
