REVIEW: PWG Threemendous: The Early Days Needed Work

•

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Threemendous Date: July 16, 2006 Location: Hollywood-Los Feliz JCC, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 350 Commentators: Disco Machine, Excalibur So someone requested that I do this show…..oh seven or eight years ago now but I’ve finally gotten around to/remembered to do it. It’s back in the earlier days of PWG and I’m not sure if there is some kind of gimmick for the show. PWG has a history of some rather awesome show names and the tradition holds up in their earlier days too. Let’s get to it. An unnamed man is..

AEW Dynamite Results – October 5, 2022

•

Dynamite Date: October 5, 2022 Location: Entertainment And Sports Center, Washington DC Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz It’s the third anniversary of Dynamite and you know that means we are going to be seeing something special. In this case we have a big tag match main event as Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara are facing Bryan Danielson and Daniel Garcia. As a bonus, the show is an extra fifteen minutes long tonight so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Wheeler Yuta vs. Maxwell Jacob Friedman William Regal is on commentary and doesn’t think much of MJF, even if the fans seem to like him. Wheeler sends him into the corner to start and we hit the Fargo Strut for some old school flare. A dropkick just annoys MJF so he takes Yuta down and grabs a chinlock. Back up and MJF grabs a tilt-a-whirl faceplant as we take a break. Back with Yuta whipping him hard into the corner and grabbing a small package for two. Yuta grabs some rolling German suplex for two but his hurricanrana ..

WWE Has A New Top Merchandise Seller (And You Might Be Surprised)

•

That’s an accomplishment. With so may stars in WWE, it can be difficult to find someone who can stand out above the rest. There are very few ways to prove that someone is head and shoulders above the remainder of the roster. One of the biggest ways is to see who is bringing in the most money in some fields and now one star has broken through to the top spot in the company. According to F4WOnline.com, Drew McIntyre has become the top merchandise seller in WWE, overtaking the Bloodline. While the stable has been a perennial #1 merchandise mover, McIntyre has overtaken them in recent weeks. There is no word on what merchandise is counted in the judging. McIntyre recently headlined Clash At The Castle against Roman Reigns in the show’s main event. Opinion: That is a rather telling sign but one of the most important things is that it shows someone else is on the way up in WWE. I don’t know if WWE is going to turn McIntyre into the top star in the company as a result and it isn’t like he c..

THAT’S GOTTA BE BIG! WWE Announces Celebration Of Special Kane Anniversary

•

I would say he has earned it. WWE has been around for a very long time now and there have been some very talented stars to come through that curtain. Some of them are far more memorable than others, but there are some legends who have stood the test of time. Those are the names that WWE likes to celebrate and that is what they are going to be doing in the near future. WWE has announced that they will be celebrating Kane’s 25th anniversary in the company. Kane debuted on October 5, 1997 at Bad Blood during the Hell In A Cell match between Shawn Michaels and Undertaker. WWE will be celebrating the milestone with special editions of Top 10 and WWE Playlist, looking at some of the best moments of Kane’s career. While Kane debuted in 1997, Glenn Jacobs had been wrestling for WWE for several years before becoming Kane. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that WWE has been doing over and over as of late and one of the biggest reasons is that they had a lot of great things from back in the la..

Great News On Saraya’s AEW Future

•

So she’s in. There have been some great debuts in AEW’s history and some of them have been names that fans have been seeing for years. That can make for some awesome moments, but it also leaves fans wondering what they are going to be seeing in the future. Now we know what the future seems to hold for a recently debuted star and it is a bit of a surprise. Last month at AEW Grand Slam, Saraya, better known as Paige during her time in WWE, made her debut for the company. This led to a question of whether or not she would be able to get physical, as she was forced to retire from the ring in 2018 due to a neck injury. This week on AEW Dynamite, Page got into a fight with Britt Baker before laying out Rebel with a superkick. While not confirmed, this would suggest that Saraya has been medically cleared. Opinion: That is something great to see as you do not want to see anyone forced out of the ring. Saraya is someone who felt like she could be one of the biggest stars in wrestling but had ..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Another Backstage Altercation At AEW TV, Star Sent Home

•

Yes, again. There are all kinds of stories in wrestling and ways to present a feud between stars. Some of the better ones have elements of real life issues built in, as they can allow for some great moments in front of the camera. That can also lead to some backstage issues though and that seems to have happened again between two stars who are not getting along at all. Earlier this month, AEW’s Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara got into an argument on Twitter over an interview El Idolo did on Mexican television. Now, according to TMZ Sports, the two had a backstage altercation at this week’s AEW TV taping, resulting in El Idolo being sent home. This comes shortly after AEW President Tony Khan announced that El Idolo’s mask vs. career match against 10 had been pulled from Rampage. Opinion: I’m not sure where this is going to lead, but at some point there have to be some serious consequences for the people involved. We are just barely over a month removed from the big backstage brawl ..

Longtime WWE Name Gone From Company After 14 Year Tenure

•

He was a big deal. There are all kinds of people who work together to make WWE programming a success. While the wrestlers are the ones who get the most attention, several other people are there to make the show come together as well. Some of these people will almost never get any recognition and now one of them is departing the company after a long time. According to PWInsider.com, Dr. Chris Amann has left WWE after fourteen years with the company. Amann reportedly gave notice earlier this year and wrapped up his time with WWE earlier this month. Amann is most well known as the doctor who sued CM Punk and Colt Cabana over their comments about his work on Cabana’s podcast. In addition, he also helped establish the WWE Wellness Policy. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that might not seem like a big deal but Amann has been around the company for a very long time now. It is going to mean something to see him gone, even if there will be another fully qualified doctor in his place soon. ..

BREAKING: AEW Signs Top Free Agent, Former World Champion

•

Add him to the list. One of the most important parts of any wrestling promotion is the talent roster that it has put together. There needs to be a mixture of different styles and ages to make for a diverse grouping and that is the case with the two major promotions in the world today. Now one of them has added another big name to its roster with some international flare. According to Fightful Select, AEW has come to terms with Bandido on a team, though it is not clear when he will be starting with the company full time. Bandido appeared on last week’s edition of Dynamite, unsuccessfully challenging Chris Jericho for the Ring Of Honor World Title. His performance was strong enough that AEW offered him a contract just after the show. There is no word on what this means for Bandido’s appearances elsewhere. Opinion: This is good to hear for Bandido and for AEW, as Bandido is one of the most talented stars in the world today and now he is going to get a chance to shine on one of the bigge..

Former Impact Knockouts Champion Says John Laurinaitis Suggested She Lose Weight

•

That’s not the great way to go. Women’s wrestling has come a very long way in the last few years. After spending so much time as little more than a sideshow attraction, women’s wrestling eventually became a major part of WWE programming. The previous years were mainly focused on their appearances though, and now a former star is explaining just how bad things were. During an appearance on the Cafe de Rene podcast, former WWE developmental star Angelina Love spoke about some things former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis said to her. This included suggesting that Love lose weight, by asking how she felt her height/weight ratio worked at 5’5 and 130lbs. Love said that she was too terrified to respond to anything Laurinaitis said to her. Love wrestled in WWE’s developmental system from 2004-2007 before moving on to Impact Wrestling. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that happens far too often in wrestling and it seems to have happened to Love as well. While there are certa..

Kurt Angle Reveals Why WWE Legend Was Let Go

•

That would be a good reason. WWE has long since used a series of legends to boost up their modern roster. With so many current famous names throughout WWE’s history they have quite the selection to pick from. There have been some great successes over the years but sometimes these things just do not work out. It seems that was the situation with one of the biggest names in WWE history. During a recent edition of the Kurt Angle Show, Kurt Angle revealed that WWE Hall Of Famer Bob Backlund refused to put the Crippler Crossface on Chris Benoit because he wasn’t standing up. Soon after this, Backlund could not remember his lines during a backstage segment and asked to do it over, not realizing that it was being aired live. Angle believes that was the deciding factor and Backlund was gone from the company soon after. Opinion: If both of those stories are true, I can certainly understand why WWE would want to get rid of Backlund. Having one such issue would be enough of a problem but to hav..

Bayley’s Monday Night Raw Promo Sets Off Twitter Spat With Superfan Izzy

•

Well she’s evil now. A well timed turn can do all kinds of things for a wrestler, as they might need a change of pace. Occasionally they just need to switch things up a bit to see what else they can do and it can lead to much greater success. That is the case with a current WWE star, who is now getting into it with one of the company’s most well known fans in a personal issue. At Summerslam, Bayley returned after missing over a year with a knee injury. Since her return, Bayley has become the leader of the Damage Ctrl stable and has a chance to win the Raw Women’s Title this weekend at Extreme Rules. The contract signing for the match took place this week on Monday Night Raw, with Bayley insulting her former fans. This prompted Bayley superfan Izzy to say comment, saying sh felt personally attacked. Bayley responded, calling Izzy the worst. In addition, Bayley insulted another fan who brought a TEAM BAYLEY sign to Monday Night Raw, saying no one would see that “tiny a** sign”. I feel ..

Three NXT Stars Make Main Roster Debuts This Week (Contains Mild Main Event SPOILERS)

•

Next three up. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster, to the point where the company can split its wrestlers into three different rosters. While Monday Night Raw and SmackDown are the main roster shows, NXT is right there as a third option. However, NXT is the developmental territory and a promotion means a lot for a star. Now three stars might be in for that treatment. According to Wrestlinginc.com, NXT stars Brooks Jensen, Josh Briggs and Fallon Henley all appeared on this week’s edition of WWE Main Event, winning a tag match and singles match respectively. While not confirmed, this could mean that the three of them, who wrestle as a team in NXT, could be on their way to the main roster. Jensen and Briggs are former NXT UK Tag Team Champions. Opinion: I don’t know if this is going to go anywhere but it is nice for the three of them to get a chance somewhere. It isn’t like there is a big audience for Main Event in the first place so even if things don’t go so well, the ..

AEW’s Andrade El Idolo Reportedly On The Outs With AAA Promotion

•

It isn’t going well. AEW has been around for a few years now and the company has done rather well in its limited existence. The company has a devoted following and new stars continue to join the ranks. However, there are always going to be some problems for the wrestlers either in front of or behind the camera. That is the case for a current AEW star, but it isn’t in AEW itself. Earlier this week, AEW’s Andrade El Idolo and Sammy Guevara got into a Twitter spat. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, El Idolo is currently having issues with the AAA promotion in Mexico. This stems from TripleMania XXIX in 2021, when Kenny Omega successfully defended the AAA Mega Championship against El Idolo. This was reportedly a change of plans over El Idolo’s asking price for the appearance. The relationship continued to deteriorate and El Idolo has only wrestled for AAA once since then, back in April. El Idolo is scheduled to face 10 on this week’s AEW Rampage, with his AEW career on the line. Opi..

Six WWE Stars Appear On This Week’s NXT

•

To the other show. There are all kinds of people on the NXT roster and their goal is to make it up to either Monday Night Raw or SmackDown. That is easier said than done as you need something to make it up to the next level. This time though, there were a few names who went the other way, as several main roster stars appeared on this week’s edition of NXT television. There were six main roster guest stars on this week’s edition of NXT. First of all, Byron Saxton served as a replacement commentator for Vic Joseph, who was married over the weekend. The Brawling Brutes also appeared, challenging Pretty Deadly for the NXT Tag Team Titles in the show’s main event. The Brutes were defeated, thanks to interference from SmackDown’s Imperium. Finally, Veer Mahaan appeared backstage and confronted his former partner Sanga, though nothing was said. Saxton and the Brutes were advertised in advance while the other three were surprises. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that I like to see happen ..

NXT Results – October 4, 2022

•

NXT Date: October 4, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Wade Barrett, Byron Saxton We’re coming up on Halloween Havoc near the end of the month and the card seems to be set. They still have a few things that need to be done to get ready for the show though and we will probably get some more of that build this week. We also have some guest stars coming in this week from Smackdown so things should be feeling bigger. Let’s get to it. Here is Pretty Deadly, dressed as very stereotypical British men (complete with red robes and powdered wigs), for a state of the Commonwealth address. They talk about how back in the day, some pilgrims came from the United Kingdom (Prince: “Hello.”) and now as a result, they are here. All of the other teams have been training in the Performance Center to be as good as they are, including the Boring Brothers and Cheap Denim. Therefore, they should be the Tag Team Champions for all time! Cue the Brawling Brutes,..

Possible Great News On Recent WWE Injury

•

That might not be so bad. There are all kinds of injuries that can take a wrestler out of action in the blink of an eye. Occasionally you won’t even see the injury take place and one day they are just on the shelf for some reason. No matter what happens, someone being hurt is never going to be a good situation. This time though, there is a chance that things could be different. This week on Monday Night Raw, the Street Profits’ Montez Ford accompanied Angelo Dawkins to the ring. However, Ford was wearing a walking boot and was unable to be involved in the match. According to Fightful Select, while there is no world on the nature of Ford’s injury, the walking boot was supplied by the WWE prop department. There is no word on when Ford will be back in the ring. Opinion: That is something rather interesting but above all else it is the hope spot that helps things the most. Ford having some kind of foot or ankle injury could have put him on the shelf for a long time. While that is still a..

Injured AEW Star Undergoes Surgery, Hopes To Breathe Again

•

That should fix her. Injuries are terrible to see in wrestling as you never know when someone is going to be put on the shelf for any amount of time. That is something that cannot be prepared for and no one is immune to them. After someone gets hurt, the only thing left to do is wait for them to get back in the ring. Now an injured star is on the way back to health. Back at the All Out: Zero House show, Ruby Soho and Ortiz unsuccessfully challenged Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo for the AAA Mixed Tag Team Titles. During the match, Soho suffered a broke nose and has not wrestled since. Soho has posted an image to Twitter, suggesting that she has undergone surgery to repair the damage. She also said that she is on the way to being able to breathe again. There is no word on when she will be able to return to the ring. Finally! After a month since breaking my nose at All Out. The countdown begins until I can breathe again, can’t you see my excitement?! ? pic.twitter.com/AffnyQPonx — Ruby So..

Two AEW Stars Get In Heated Argument (And It Gets Personal)

•

It isn’t going well. The rise of technology has changed the way the wrestling world works in a very good way. Fans are now able to see more content than they have ever been able to see before from the comfort of their own home. However, there are also downsides to this technology and that was on display this week as some stars got into an argument in a rather public setting. AEW’s Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo have gotten in a Twitter argument. The issues began with an interview that El Idolo gave (in Spanish) saying that Guevara complained about El Idolo hitting too hard in the ring. El Idolo said Guevara was the only one who ever complained, as the solution was to hit back harder. Guevara sent out a tweet of his own, albeit without referencing El Idolo, saying “You are a jobber. A favor hire. Be grateful b****.” El Idolo responded, with Guevara’s name, saying that if he has a problem with someone, he says it to their face. The two have continued to go back and forth throughout..

WATCH: Personal Brawl Breaks Out After Monday Night Raw

•

The night wasn’t over. There is a lot that takes place at any given WWE television taping. Of course you have the main show that you came to see, but there is also a lot more that you only get live rather than at home. Sometimes that is the best part of the night as it can be a little more loose than anything else. That might have been the situation this week after a TV show. One of the biggest feuds currently taking place in WWE is Seth Rollins vs. Matt Riddle. The two are scheduled to face each other in a Fight Pit match at Extreme Rules but they were not allowed to get physical this week on Monday Night Raw. After the show was over though, Rollins came to the ring and said that the no physicality rule expired, leading to Riddle coming out for a brawl. This is similar to what happened last week after Monday Night Raw went off the air. This is how you end a show. Check out Rollins’ promo and brawl with Riddle: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: It makes sense to wr..

KB’s Review: Yeah Not A Fan

•

So I had started another column this week but it wasn’t something I could really get behind. Given that it was about a tag team comprised of Jimmy Wang Yang and Shannon Moore in late 2007, there was only so much that I was going to be able to get out of it. I needed something else to talk about and then I saw something that caught my eye, but not in the best of ways. Last week, a fan complained about AEW only having one women’s match/segment. Dave Meltzer responded, asking if they were going to watch the pay per view tonight. What pay per view you ask? Well that would be a Stardom pay per view from Japan, which the fellow commenters pointed out over and over. They also pointed out that apparently the original fan, who said he cared about women’s wrestling, wasn’t a real fan because he didn’t know about Stardom. This is the kind of thing that drives me absolutely nuts as a fan because it is the most condescending, rude and flat out obnoxious kind of take that you can have. Rather than..
