They’re the big ones. WWE is the largest and most powerful wrestling company in the world, meaning they are where several wrestlers want to wind up. Some wrestlers are talented and valuable enough to keep around after their in-ring careers are over and get to stick with the company in a backstage role. One such star was unable to attend a special show as a result.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Would Be A Record: WWE Hall Of Famer Wants To Return After 21 Years For Royal Rumble

Over the weekend, Battleground Championship Wrestling presented its “Tribute To The Extreme” event at the 2300 Arena (formerly the ECW Arena) in Philadelphia. According to PWInsider.com, ECW legend and current NXT coach D-Von Dudley was pulled from his scheduled appearance at the show. Dudley was scheduled to appear at the convention before the event as well as in Bully Ray’s corner for Ray’s match later that night. The promotion received a letter from WWE, which took issue with an ECW tribute show airing, but the event did go on, albeit without Dudley involved.

Opinion: I can understand the idea of WWE not wanting someone who currently works for them appearing on the show, but it is a little much for them to take issue with a small promotion running a tribute show. It isn’t like this is going to be mistaken for an official WWE event, so what difference does it really make? As long as it isn’t being billed as an ECW event, this is hardly some horrible idea.
