VIDEO: Ryback Is Trying To Go To Summerslam

That’s a different gig. A lot of wrestlers come and go from WWE every year and a lot of them leave without much of an impact. You might remember a match or two here or there, but for the most part, they are just people who used to work there and don’t anymore. Very few do anything memorable, but now one of them with a bit of a reputation is trying to get back in, albeit in a different way. WWE is currently running a contest where a fan will be able to introduce a match at Summerslam. Former WWE star Ryback has posted a video to YouTube, officially entering the contest. In the video, Ryback introduces Roman Reigns vs. John Cena, the likely main event for the show, with various jokes and shots taken at both wrestlers and Reigns’ manager Paul Heyman. Ryback wrestled for WWE from 2005-2016, winning the Intercontinental Title and a variety of Slammy Awards. Since departing the company, Ryback has hosted a podcast called Conversations With The Big Guy where he has been highlight critical o..

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Surprises at Live Events, Ripping Dirt Sheets, What Move Has Ryback Stopped Using? More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Pat Buck.

Ryback informs that he just finished another stem cell procedure, which is helping him with injuries he suffered over his career in professional wrestling. He is having issues with the discs in his neck/back, and for this reason he says he is done performing any type of stunner manoeuvre. He says that even executing a leg drop is very hard on your body when you do it for multiple years.

Ryback comments on some negative buzz that he has received on the indie scene, with some people thinking that he’s failing on the indies simply because they don’t see him wrestling for certain promotions. He informs that he’s simply choosing not to wrestle for some promotions, because he’s not wrestling for free or for a discount since he knows his value.

He says that people can criticize him all day long but he knows how hard he works, and if any of these critics spent any time with him they’d see it too. He says that this past year has been a terrific year for him financially both with wrestling and with his supplement business, and while he continues to let his body heal, he’s not focused on working for any and all promotions that inquire about bookings.

Dana Warrior Says there Were No Plans for Ryback vs. Ultimate Warrior

Ryback claimed in a recent installment of Heated Conversations with The Big Guy that there were plans originally for The Ultimate Warrior to work with him at WrestleMania 30 before he passed away.

When asked about these rumors on Twitter, Dana Warrior claimed they were false. She wrote, “Not true. It always saddens me when people tell untruths on a man’s grave to promote their lives. Do your OWN work. Dana”

When Ryback asked Dana how she was doing, she called him out for living in a “fantasy” with the following remarks:

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Breeze in A Dress, Ryback vs. Ultimate Warrior, Ways to Improve Wrestling, More!

Ryback opens today’s show by revealing whether he misses being on the road with WWE full time. He says that sometimes he misses the live events and the guys who he developed relationships with, but he doesn’t miss television tapings and all the ‘shit’ that comes along with being on the road 300 days a year.

He says that last week’s show made some headlines due to his recollection of a backstage scenario featuring Tyler Breeze. Some people questioned the legitimacy of Ryback’s claims, but he says that he was there in person when Vince McMahon witnessed Breeze leaving an arena early, and Breeze’s stock within WWE immediately plummeted after that.

Nonetheless, he likes what WWE is doing with Breezango right now as they continue to produce entertaining segments every week. He’s still confused by the fact that Tyler Breeze is wearing a dress every week now, but he assumes that someone backstage at WWE gets their kicks from seeing Breeze in a dress.

Ryback says he loved the Rap Battle on Smackdown Live last week between The Usos and The New Day. He says that these types of segments are what have been missing from WWE programming lately, and the ‘R rating’ line in particular proves that anything can happen on WWE programming, similar to how fans felt about the product during the attitude era.

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Sexuality in Wrestling, Daniel Bryan’s Return to the Ring, Is Scott Steiner A Hall of Famer? More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Pat Buck.

Ryback and Buck open today’s show by sending their best wishes to Matt Cappotelli, who has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Buck remembers looking up to Cappotelli during their time working together in OVW, WWE’s former developmental territory, and he’s very saddened by the news that Cappotelli has to deal with this for the second time in his life.

Ryback says that Cappotelli is one of the strongest guys he’s ever met, and if there’s anyone who can beat this disease twice it’s Cappotelli. He clearly finds a way to take the positives out of negative situations, and Ryback is confident that Cappotelli will come through this yet again.

Ryback gives his thoughts on Netflix’s new show ‘GLOW’. He says that he doesn’t watch much television, but Buck urged him to watch it and he’s really glad he did. He was instantly hooked to the show after watching the first couple of episodes, and he thoroughly enjoyed the show as a whole.

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Carmella’s MITB Win, Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe, Brainstorming PPV Name Ideas, More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Pat Buck.

Ryback opens today’s show speaking about the finish of the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match from last Sunday. There has been plenty of fan backlash since James Ellsworth scaled the ladder and retrieved the briefcase for Carmella, but Ryback believes that means the finish was a success.

He believes that people need to realize that this is a fake scenario, and the events that transpire in the ring are meant to elicit a response from viewers, whether they be positive or negative. With this in mind, WWE succeeded last Sunday because the finish of this match has been a hot topic of discussion ever since.

Buck believes that the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match should have went on later in the show instead of going first. WWE could have taken advantage of the crowd’s energy early on by having a less impactful match go on first, which would have saved the historic women’s match for later on in the show. Ryback points out that WWE needed to separate those two main event ladder matches, so that’s probably why they started the night with the women’s match and closed the night with the men’s match.

Buck also points out that this finish made James Ellsworth relevant again. It looked to be fairly certain that Ellsworth’s WWE contract wouldn’t be renewed after his one year deal was up, but now WWE creative has some options with Ellsworth moving forward. They might be able to stretch this angle out long enough to secure another contract for Ellsworth.

Quite simply, Ryback calls the finish of that match ‘perfect’.

Ryback Talks About Teased Feud Against Triple H

On the latest episode of his podcast, Conversations with the Big Guy, Ryback revealed some interesting details about a teased feud between him and Triple H. Here’s what the “Big Guy” said: (Quote credits: wrestlinginc.com)

“I had a weird deal with Hunter. Did I ever tell [podcast co-host Pat Buck]? Do you remember that, where they had a thing where it looked like they were teasing a program with me and Hunter? They had us face off in England after I wrestled Kane. I think I broke my finger wrestling Kane one night. We were doing something and our hands hit and my finger went sideways.”

Ryback then continued:

“so I get through this match with Kane. I think it was the main event on SmackDown. Then, they have this big stare [down] with me and Hunter and they teased it for a couple of weeks with different things and then it just went away. It was nothing. And even he came up, ‘the plan was never for us to work, just so you know.’ And I go, ‘Oh, okay. I don’t know.’ I’m not in the creative meetings. I don’t know why. I just do what I’m told. He would always explain things weirdly, but, yeah, that never happened. It would’ve been nice, so he could f–king know that I could wrestle.”

Would you have liked seeing Hunter go at it with The Big Guy? Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Ryback’s New Gimmicks, Worst Match of his Career, What Does Ryback Miss About WWE? More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Pat Buck.

Ryback mentions that Buck takes care of all of his bookings for him. He says that when he left WWE, he called Buck the same day and asked him to be his booking agent for a 10% fee of all money earned. He says that he could probably handle all of his bookings himself but it is very time consuming, and he’d rather be putting his time and effort into other things.

Buck informs that it’s not easy to just start making connections and establishing relationships with promoters right out of the blue. He enjoys handling Ryback’s bookings but he admits that it can be frustrating at times. Some promoters are very rude and he takes the brunt of their abuse from time to time. Ryback requires a deposit after confirming a booking before his image and name can be used for promotional purposes, and sometimes that causes issues.

Ryback informs that he has had successful stem cell surgery on his shoulder where his shoulder is now basically repairing itself with the help of the stem cells. His goal is to fix his shoulder once and for all after dealing with these issues for years, and he believes he’s close to accomplishing that. He admits that it’s frustrating not being able to train as hard as he would like, or wrestle as much as he’d like.

Ryback Criticizes Nia Jax’s Tweet About WWE Creative

On a recent episode of his podcast, Conversation with the Big Guy, Ryback let out his thoughts on Nia Jax’s controversial tweet about the WWE Creative. Jax had tweeted criticizing the red brand’s creative team by pointing out how RAW doesn’t use all it’s women wrestlers while its rival brand, SmackDown LIVE does.

The tweet was then quickly taken down by Jax herself as it was garnering a lot of attention and possibly made the creative look really bad.

Here are Ryback’s comments on the said issue : (quotes credit ewrestlingnews.com)

“Everybody is frustrated there, from top to bottom. She’s been handed a lot early on, in my opinion. It’s very early on to make a comment like that and when I saw that I totally understand it, like, if you are not on TV a couple of weeks is frustrating. With her character on TV, it’s not like they can just throw her in random. It could be a good TV that you’re not on TV every week. If you’re being booked for live events, who the f**k cares? You’re making money until they find something good for you, but when you go and make comments like that, there’s no good that comes out of that because it’s not like real sports where you control the outcome. It’s writers and Vince, they control your character and they can write her and job her out every week. She has to either go do it or not do it and get released, so she put herself in a real bad position by making comments like that on social media. It reminded me of that guy with Lord Tensai, Sakamoto. I remember there was Japanese heat for another Japanese guy coming on the roster, Yoshi had gone on social media and made a comment. If we were in UFC it’d be cool, you may have gotten yourself booked for a big fight and a big payday, but in pro-wrestling you can’t go on there and say that. A week later he got Jobbed out on RAW. That is what it reminded me of because no good ever comes out of it, but she’s young, so it is what it is.”

You can check out all our other podcast recaps from Jim Ross, Taz, Ryback and many more at this link.

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Filming ‘Table for 3’, Favourite Theme Songs, Why is Nakamura Talking? More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Pat Buck.

Ryback recalls one night during his program against The Authority, when after RAW went off air he was being attacked by everyone in the ring. This was the one time during his WWE run when he thought an opponent was going to take off his weightlifting belt and strap him with it, and he was terrified. Jamie Noble told him after the fact that they considered it but then changed their minds.

Ryback mentions that WWE teased an angle with him versus Triple H for a couple weeks, but eventually they dropped it. Triple H came up and later told him that there was never a plan for them to work with each other, which Ryback appreciated. However, he jokes that he would have liked to work with Triple H to prove to him that he could actually wrestle.

Ryback says that WWE talents don’t get paid to film Table for 3, and they’d often be told that they had to shoot an episode before a live television taping when they’re tired and busy. For this reason, nobody ever really wants to do it, but they suck it up and try to have a good time with each other.

Buck says he’d love to see a Table for 3 featuring Ryback, Triple H and CM Punk. Ryback says he’d love to do an episode with Daniel Bryan and Vince McMahon, because Bryan would be able to keep things civil if things got out of hand between him and McMahon.

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – CM Punk Gets A Crazy Offer, Lack of Selling in Today’s Product, Booking Inquiry Takes A Strange Turn, More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Jeff Buck.

Ryback informs that he had had a brutal week. His Instagram account was locked for four days for some reason that he’s still unsure of, but it was really disappointing given how often he uses that account to promote his business ventures. In a similar vein, Ryback estimates that he has lost roughly $20,000 in sales in the United States alone from the ‘Amazon debacle’ over the last little while.

Ryback discusses the recent report that an indie promoter has offered CM Punk $1,000,000 to come wrestle for his promotion. Ryback says that he knows this promoter and let’s just say he’s not the straightest shooter in the World. Ryback assumes that if Punk accepted this deal he’d somehow find himself locked in a 7-year contract working thousands of shows a year.

The promoter also reportedly said that he’d consider it a victory if Punk even hears about this offer. Ryback says that’s a ‘mark’ comment if he has ever heard one.

Conversation with the Big Guy Recap – Jinder Mahal’s Run, Wrestling in India, Top 10 Fat Men of all Time, More!

Ryback is joined on today’s show by his co-host Pat Buck.

Ryback informs that he spoke with his good friend Wade Barrett recently, and Barrett believes he still has some gas left in the tank for an in-ring return. Barrett is currently during commentary work right now, but Ryback feels it’s only a matter of time before Barrett returns to in-ring action.

Buck informs that on occasion he receives emails from people wanting to attend his wrestling school who suffer from physical disabilities. He then has to break the bad news to them that they probably don’t have a chance at having an in-ring career. Ryback says that if you’re in that situation and you love the business that much, you can try to get into the business another way.

He says that these individuals can also benefit from attending wrestling school regardless of whether they can actually compete in the ring or not. For example, if they have aspirations of becoming a Manager or a commentator in the business, going through the motions in a wrestling school will help them earn respect from their peers and they will gain a better understanding of the business.
