Ryback Defends Sami Zayn’s WWE Strap Victory Amid Fan Criticism

Pro Wrestling News Ryback Defends Sami Zayn’s WWE Strap Victory Amid Fan Criticism

The wrestling world was buzzing as Past WWE star Ryback has come to Sami Zayn’s defense following the recently introduced reigning champion’s historic victory at WWE Night of Champions.

Zayn captured the WWE Strap for the first time in his career by defeating Cody Rhodes and Gunther in the premium live event’s Triple Threat Match.

After the presentation, Ryback took to Twitter/X to respond to criticism from enthusiasts who questioned whether Zayn “looks like a world titleholder.”

“There seems to be numerous criticism over Sami Zayn winning the WWE Prize because some people don’t think he ‘looks like a titleholder.’ Here’s the reality: in earlier today’s drug-tested era — genetics matter more than ever. Not everyone has the ability to carry large amounts of muscle while staying extremely lean — no matter how disciplined they are with their training, nutrition, and recovery. We should never judge an athlete solely by their physique.”

Ryback also reflected on how expectations of what a world champion should look like have changed over the years.

“For decades, faithful became accustomed to physiques that were often built during an era when performance-enhancing drugs were far more prevalent in professional wrestling. But those expectations weren’t always based on what is healthiest or even naturally attainable, that created an expectation of what a ‘world champion’ should look like. With far too many wrestlers passing away at young ages, the business has also paid a heavy price over the years. Health should always come inaugural.”

He concluded by praising Zayn’s work and urging viewers to judge champions by their performances rather than their appearance.

“A titleholder should ultimately be judged by their work, their ability to connect with the audience, and how they perform when the bell rings. Sami Zayn has earned that opportunity, and I think he carries himself like a world champion. People are entitled to their opinions, yet maybe it’s time we stop judging champions by the standards of a different era and start appreciating what they bring to the ring as of today.”
