WWE Planning Permanent Change To Pay Per View Calendar

December 8, 2021 • Admin

Add it to the calendar. WWE presents quite a few pay per views every single year and some of them have been around for a long time now. There are some that you know are coming because of the month on the calendar, which has become more and more standard year after year. That seems to be the case again, as WWE wants one of its newest pay per views to have a regular slot. On Saturday January 1, WWE will present the inaugural Day One pay per view event. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Day One will be a regular pay per view on the WWE schedule regardless of the night of the week. WWE previously presented the New Year’s Revolution pay per view from 2005-2007, though it did not air on January 1. Day One is an idea of WWE President Nick Khan. WWE has tried some new year’s stuff before. The Likely Eventual Replacement For Vince McMahon Is….(This Might Surprise You)

December 8, 2021 • Admin

The next big one. There are a lot of powerful people in the wrestling world but none of them compare to Vince McMahon. After decades of being in charge of the biggest and most powerful wrestling company in the world, McMahon has no equal and probably will not until he is gone from the industry. However, someone is going to have to replace him at some point and now we might know what that will be. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE President and Chief Revenue Officer Nick Khan would be the most likely replacement for McMahon when McMahon is gone from WWE. The Board of Directors would have the final say, but outside of bringing in someone new, Khan would be the most likely choice. Khan has been working for WWE after being hired in August 2020. McMahon is one of a kind. Another Former Champion Seems To Be Done With WWE

December 8, 2021 • Admin

So much for that? A lot of people have left WWE over the last few years and not all of them have been voluntary. Several of them been forced out of WWE through a long series of releases, though that has not been the case every single time. There are a few people who have wanted to leave WWE on their own accord and that might be the case again, albeit in a slightly strange way. According to Wrestlinginc.com, former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion and NXT Women’s Champion Kairi Sane has removed references to WWE from her Instagram account. Instead, she is now listed as a former WWE and NXT star. Sane has left WWE as an active wrestler but has served as a non-wrestling ambassador in Japan. There is no word on whether Sane might be considering a return to the ring. There is also nothing to suggest any heat between Sane and WWE. Sane was a heck of a star in WWE and NXT. VIDEO: Emotional Sendoff For Two Stars After NXT Ends

December 8, 2021 • Admin

That might be it. NXT is one of the most unique wrestling promotions in the world, if you can even call it a promotion. Rather than standing on its own, it serves as the official training program for WWE. That makes it a good bit more complicated, as the purpose of the place is to move the wrestlers up to the next level. While that might not be the case at the moment, some of them did seem to be saying goodbye. The NXT contracts of both Johnny Gargano and Kyle O’Reilly are both expiring before the end of the year. This week’s NXT featured O’Reilly being laid out by Von Wagner and Gargano being attacked after talking about how his future was unclear. A video and several photos have been released online, showing Gargano, O’Reilly and NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa in the ring and around the arena after the show. The captions on the tweets of the photos suggest that this was a sendoff for O’Reilly and Gargano, though it is not clear if it officially was one for either or both. Thank you @K..

How WWE Is Trying To Make The New Andre The Giant

December 8, 2021 • Admin

They have plans for him. There are very few generational talents in wrestling, as it is hard to find someone who truly makes that kind of an impact. Often times it is someone who makes so much of an impact that you cannot ignore them, which is what WWE thinks they have on their hands now. This time, they have have an idea for him, though it might be a bit of a lofty goal. This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw featured what appeared to be a split between AJ Styles and Omos, who have been teaming together since WrestleMania 37 earlier this year. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE may feel that Omos is a babyface in the mold of Andre the Giant, with the turn being a way to get him there. It is not clear what Omos will be doing if and when the split with Styles officially occurs. Omos has done some big things on his own. Check out what he might be doing without Styles: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This..

Update On WWE’s Plans For Nikki Ash’s Losing Streak

December 8, 2021 • Admin

Tugging at the heartstrings. There are a lot of ways to present wrestlers in WWE and some of them are a bit more interesting than others. What matters the most is finding something that gets the fans’ attention and makes them care though, which is one of those things that might not be the easiest thing in the world to do. Now WWE has an idea for one of its stars, but it might not be that easy. Over the last few weeks, Nikki Ash has suffered a losing streak, including being defeated by Queen Zelina in less than three minutes this week on Monday Night Raw. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea of the losing streak is to build up sympathy for Ash by having her go through a depression over her losing. There is no word on what the end goal for the losing streak will be, or when Ash will begin winning again. Ash has been having some a rough time as of late. Check out some of her recent issues: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

WATCH: Monday Night Raw Star Makes Surprise Return To NXT

December 8, 2021 • Admin

Everybody needs somebody. A manager can do a lot of good things for a wrestler but it has to be the right one. The wrong manager can drag a wrestler down, but if a company can find the right combination, it could move on a long way in a hurry. That is the kind of thing that makes for some special situations, and we might have seen something similar this week. Over the last several weeks, MSK has traveled around in an attempt to find someone called the Shaman. It was not clear who the person was, but they were described as someone who knew how to make tag teams great. This week on NXT, the Shaman was revealed as Riddle, who talked about how he had various similarities to the team and suggested that he would be in MSK’s corner going forward. It was a heck of a reveal. Check out the three together and apart: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is both a surprise and the logical..

Plus One: WWE Planning Change To Day One Title Match

December 8, 2021 • Admin

It’s a change that makes sense. We are on the way to WWE Day One on January 1 and the show is already starting to come together. There are some major matches set for the card and the event is already looking rather strong. As is often the case in WWE though, the card is subject to change. We might already know one upcoming change and why WWE is doing it. According to Wrestling Observer Live, WWE is hoping to make the triple threat WWE Title match at Day One a four way, with Bobby Lashley joining Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens and WWE Champion Big E. The four wrestlers have been working together on live events in recent weeks, which are often used as practice for bigger matches. The idea would be to have more options for a finish, as anyone could pin Owens and keep the feud going for another match. This could be a big one. Check out how we got here: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: ..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – December 7, 2021

December 8, 2021 • Admin

NXT Date: December 7, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett We’re done with WarGames and all signs would seem to point to Bron Breakker getting the rematch for the NXT Title at New Year’s Evil. That should be the big title change, but there is still some time to fill on the way there. We’ll start with this week’s show, which will include the reveal of MSK’s Shaman. Let’s get to it. We open with a long recap of WarGames. Von Wagner vs. Kyle O’Reilly In a cage after Wagner attacked him after their loss at WarGames. O’Reilly jumps him in the aisle to start and Wagner is in trouble in the corner early on. A running boot in the corner rocks Wagner again and O’Reilly starts working on the arm. Some forearms to the back of the head keep Wagner down and some running knees put him down again. Back up and Wagner knocks him silly with a single shot to take over. Wagner stomps away against the cage but O’Reilly grabs the leg for a knee..

Adam Cole: “I Always End Up Becoming The Guy”

December 7, 2021 • Admin

AEW superstar Adam Cole was recently a guest on Rasslin’ with Brandon Walker on Barstool Sports where he discussed a number of topics. Among them was how he is perceived in AEW and if he was worried about becoming lost in the shuffle in WWE/NXT. Below is a highlight from the interview, with transcription courtesy of WrestleZone: “So, I think the big difference here is looking at AEW the company as a whole, objectively. So, the biggest thing that AEW does so well, is whether you’re in the first match, in the middle of the card or in the main event, AEW does an excellent job of making every single person feel special. Like I said, whether you hold a title, whether you don’t hold a title,” Cole noted, “a lot of people in that company feel like stars, because they are, and because AEW does a great job of building talent in many different ways. “Also, for anyone who’s concerned, if you look at kind of where we’re going, I’m a member of The Elite, the number one heel faction in all of AEW..

Update On Paige, Possible Reasons She Has Not Been Released From WWE

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Call it a few reasons? WWE has been shaken up a lot in recent months and that seems like it could continue being the case for a very long time to come. With so many names moving around and being released on a nearly regular basis, it can be easy to forget where some of the wrestlers are. That seems to be the case again, and now we might know why one WWE name is still around. After being forced to retire due to neck injuries back in 2018, Paige has appeared in a variety of roles for WWE. This has included time as an analyst and as the General Manager of SmackDown, but she has not been seen in several months. According to Wrestling Observer Live, Paige is still with WWE but only makes appearances when the company has something for her to do. There is a chance that Paige is still with the company due to WWE wanting to capitalize on her name value or do not want to let her go after her career was ended while wrestling for them. Paige has had a heck of a run with WWE. Check out some of he..

REVIEW: Backlash 2007: With A Red Hot Finish

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Backlash 2007 Date: April 29, 2007 Location: Phillips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia Attendance: 14,500 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole, Taz, John Bradshaw Layfield, Joey Styles It’s the Wrestlemania followup show and the company is still on something of a hot streak. We have a big double main event as Batista challenges Undertaker for the Smackdown World Title in a Last Man Standing match and John Cena defends against Edge, Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton. That’s enough star power, plus Vince McMahon g..

Already No More? WWE Tag Team Teases Split

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Time to move on? Tag team wrestling has a strange history in WWE, as the company has been hit or miss to say the least. While there have definitely been some great teams and awesome eras for tag team wrestling, there have also been some stretches where teams are split up in a hurry for the sake of giving both wrestlers something to do. That seems to be the case again now. AJ Styles and Omos teased a breakup during this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw. Omos tagged himself in during a tag match against the Street Profits, which did not sit well with Styles. Ultimately Omos was counted out, costing the team the match. After the match was over, Styles yelled at Omos, who walked away and left Styles on his own. There is no word on when the team could officially split. The team certainly has a history. Important Update On Maryse’s WWE Status

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Stick around. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster, to the point where some of them do not wrestle whatsoever. It can be a special moment when you get to see them again and some of their returns have been excellent. That was the case last week with a double surprise return, and now we are going to get to see one of them a bit more often than expected. Last week’s Monday Night Raw featured surprise returns from the Miz and his wife Maryse to begin a feud with Edge. Miz was making his return from a two month absence due to Dancing With The Stars, but Maryse had not been seen since April. According to PWInsider.com, Maryse has signed a new deal with the company and will be appearing regularly going forward, though she did not appear on this week’s Monday Night Raw. You might not remember much about Maryse. We’re Getting A Wrestling Musical Next Year

December 7, 2021 • Admin

It’s a different way to go. Wrestling is a lot of things, but you will often hear it described as an art form. That might not be the most accurate description for a lot of people, but there is certainly an artistic element to the sport. Sometimes this can be more obvious than others, but now we are going to be seeing the artistic side of the sport displayed in a very different way. As announced in a press release, professional wrestling rock musical is scheduled to be released as a concert presentation in spring 2022, with hopes of a national tour in 2023. The musical, called The Last Match, is being produced by Tommy Fiero, owner if ISPW and Off-Broadway producer Jeremiah James. The play will tell the story of Ben Vengeance, the reigning World Champion, coming to the end of his career. Vengeance will be attempting to get the next generation ready, but something will cause problems. There is no word on any potential wrestlers being involved. There have been some great music moments i..

AEW Star Joining The Cast Of New Reality Series

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Give him a shot. Wrestlers can get a weird reputation when it comes to acting. Some of them certainly have skills, but at the same time, a lot of them are only going to be able to get so far. That does not mean there are not opportunities for wrestlers in such a field, and now a fairly new wrestler is going to be getting the chance to show what he can do outside of the ring. E has announced that AEW’s Austin Gunn, the son of Billy Gunn, will be part of the cast of Relatively Famous: Ranch Rules, a new reality series. The show will see children of celebrities working on a ranch for thirty days in an attempt to get out of the shadow of their more famous parents. The first episode will debut on January 12 at 9pm EST. There is no word on how many episodes will air. Austin has done well enough in AEW so far. Check out some of his time there: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is..

Stick Around: WWE Legend Signs New Deal With The Company

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Stick around for a bit. There are certain names in WWE history who have reached legend status. No matter what they do or how long they might be away, they could walk back onto television at any point and be greeted warmly. That is not something you get to see very often but it can make for some special moments. Now we might be seeing some more of those special moments in the future, as a legend is sticking with the company. According to PWInsider.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler has signed a new deal with the company. His previous deal was scheduled to run out by the end of this year, though it is not clear how long his new deal will last. Lawler made a cameo appearance this week on Monday Night Raw, appearing in a backstage segment with Nikki Ash and Rhea Ripley. There is no word on when Lawler will next appear. Lawler has been around WWE for a good while. Check out some of his time with the company: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to..

New Tournament Kicks Off This Week On Monday Night Raw

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Get your brackets ready. Tournaments are a pretty simple concept in wrestling as you get to put a bunch of wrestlers together and see which one is the last standing. That can make for some interesting combinations and matches, as you get to have a bunch of wrestlers competing for a prize. That is the case again this week, as WWE now has a new tournament in the process. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured the first round of the RKBronament, a four team tag team tournament to crown new #1 contenders. The tournament was put together by RKBro, who are looking for new challengers. During the first round, the Street Profits defeated AJ Style/Omos and the Mysterios defeated American Alpha. The finals will take place next week on Monday Night Raw. It was a busy night. Huge Grudge Match Set For WWE Day 1

December 7, 2021 • Admin

The card grows. We are close to the end of the year and that means it is time to get things going on the fresh calendar in a big way. WWE knows that they need to start fast and that is what they are going to be doing with Day 1 on January 1. The show needs to be big and the card is already looking good. Now they have added another match to the show between a pair of legends. Last week’s edition of Monday Night Raw featured a showdown between the returning Edge and Miz. The two argued on the microphone for several minutes and a feud began between them. This week, Edge was a guest on MizTV, when Miz challenged him to a match at Day 1, with Edge accepting. This will be the fourth ever singles match between the two and the first in over ten years. We should be in for a showdown. Update On Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns At WWE Day 1, More To Come

December 7, 2021 • Admin

Keep them coming. There are certain rivalries that you know feel special. Something about watching two people get in the ring against one another feels like something that much bigger and it is always worth seeing. Such feuds are rare, but you certainly know one of them when you see it. That will be the case again soon, though it might not even be the only one. Last week on SmackDown, Brock Lesnar was announced as the new #1 contender to the Universal Title, with his title shot against Roman Reigns set for Day 1. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the match is set to be part of a multi match series between the two and is not meant to be the final match between the two. Reigns and Lesnar have met several times, including in October at Crown Jewel with Reigns retaining the title. These two have been at it a few times.
