It Grows: Two Big Matches Added To AEW Revolution

They needed to do that. We are less than two weeks away from AEW Revolution and that is going to be a big night. AEW only runs four regular pay per view events in any given year so they have to make the most they can out of every show. The company knows how to stack their cards with a bunch of big matches and they moved closer to doing that this week, with more matches being added.

Two more matches were added to the Revolution card during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. First, Ricky Starks issued an open contract for a match at Revolution and talked Chris Jericho into facing him in a rematch. Jericho also agreed that the Jericho Appreciation Society will be banned from ringside. Second, AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter agreed to defend her title in a three way match against Saraya and Ruby Soho, both of whom have wanted title shots. Date: February 22, 2023
Location: Footprint Center, Phoenix, Arizona
Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz
We have two weeks to go to before Revolution and that means it is time to start finalizing the card. That is a little tricky when one of the matches is going to be a sixty minute Iron Man match, but AEW does know how to throw in a few surprises. Tony Khan has promised a big surprise for tonight so let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
All-Atlantic Title: Orange Cassidy vs. Wheeler Yuta Only Cassidy is defending after Yuta wants revenge for Cassidy and the Best Friends forgetting about him. They go technical to start and get some near falls each until Yuta bails to the floor. Back in and Cassidy uses Yuta’s own Seatbelt rollup for two, meaning it’s time for another breather outside. Cue Claudio Castagnoli to slap Yuta in the face to wake him up.
That’s enough to make Yuta counter the Orange Punch and send Cassidy outside for some whips into the barricade. A posting..

He Did It: Jon Moxley Is First To Reach Major AEW Milestone

He’s the first. While they might not always seem like it, wins and losses make a big difference in wrestling. If a wrestler is not treated as someone who can win matches when they matter, or at all really, the fans are going to pick up on it. That is why winning consistently can make someone a big star, and now someone has reached quite the winning milestone.

The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite saw Jon Moxley defeat Evil Uno via submission. The win marked Moxley’s 100th in AEW, making him the first wrestler to reach the milestone in the company. AEW has kept records of wins and losses since the company began. Moxley also holds the records for most reigns as AEW World Champion (three) and the most combined days as AEW World Champion (347).

No Vacancy? Update On Former WWE Stars Returning To The Company

There had to be a limit. One of the bigger wrestling stories over the last several months has been the return of several former WWE stars to the company. WWE released well over 100 wrestlers from their contracts over the previous year and a half, but now the Triple H regime has brought several of them back. However, things might be changing a bit as we move forward.

Earlier this month, a report said that WWE was negotiating with the Authors of Pain and Paul Ellering about a return to the company. However, according to Fightful Select, other than those returns, “things have been quiet” on the returns front. There is no word on if WWE is interested in bringing back more names or if the company has run out of wrestlers they want to have return.
There have been some big returns. Check out some of the better ones:

They Deserve It: WWE Hypes Several Records Broken At Elimination Chamber

They did well. WWE normally runs a premium live event a month on average, many of which have been running for a very long time now. It makes for quite the tradition as you know what you are going to get most of the time, which can help build up the anticipation. That was the situation over the weekend and now it seems that WWE has done rather well with its annual event.

WATCH: Grayson Waller Hijacks NXT, Calls Out Shawn Michaels To Meet Him

The tease continues. We are coming up on WrestleMania 39 weekend but there is more going on that weekend than just the two major events. In addition to WrestleMania, NXT presents one of its major events with the annual Stand & Deliver show, a rare moment of taking the show out of the WWE Capitol Wrestling Center. That means they need something big, and now they are teasing something else.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Get Well Soon: Wrestling Legend Reveals Recent Health Issues
This week on NXT, Grayson Waller hijacked the show’s feed and called himself the new Main Event, Showstopper and Mr. Stand & Deliver. These are all either Shawn Michaels nicknames or close to them, with Waller inviting Michaels to meet him on the Grayson Waller Effect on the March 8 NXT. Waller and Michaels have been having issues in recent weeks, including Michaels suspending Waller for interrupting Michaels’ post-Vengeance Day media call. There is nothing to suggest that Michaels will be returning to the ring to fa..

Get Well Soon: Wrestling Legend Reveals Recent Health Issues

That’s never good to hear. Wrestlers work very hard to make their matches look as good as possible, which can be rather taxing on their bodies. At some point, the physical issues begin to take their toll and it can slow their careers down. Unfortunately that is not something they can turn off once they retire, and now a wrestling legend is dealing with such troubles.

Not So Much: Update On Backstage Atmosphere In WWE With Sale Looming

It’s a weird time. Earlier this year, Vince McMahon returned to WWE in a surprise move, ending his retirement from the company after about six months. McMahon returned to oversee a sale of the company, which is expected to take place in the next few months. That is going to be the biggest change WWE has ever seen, and now we know a bit more about what that has meant so far.

According to PWInsider Elite, the backstage atmosphere is said to be one of “walking on eggshells” as people are scared for their jobs if and when the company is sold. The feeling is described as the same as it was before McMahon left the company in the first place, though the morale is still said to be better than before. The company is expected to be sold in the next few months, though it is still not clear who will be buying it.

She’s Out: Very Unique Reason For WWE Star Missing Monday Night Raw This Week

That’s a rare reason. With so many different wrestlers on the WWE roster, there is going to be quite the collection of stars from around the world and from different backgrounds. That can make for some interesting situations, some of which are more negative than others. That was the case again this week, as a WWE star was not allowed to be at a show, though the absence was written in.

Green was spotted in New York City during the show, attending a performance of her husband Matt Cardona’s musical “The Last Match”.

We are on our way to Roadblock and then Stand & Deliver, which means we should be in for some big stuff over the next few weeks. That includes this week, as Bron Breakker defends the NXT Title against Jinder Mahal. Ok so not everything can be the biggest deal in the world. Let’s get to it.
Trick Williams vs. Ilja Dragunov Before the match, Williams says that if pain makes Dragunov feel alive, he’ll be on cloud nine tonight. Williams hits him in the face before the bell so Dragunov starts angry. That means an angry headlock on the mat, with Williams having to bail to the ropes. Back up and Dragunov hits a running knee in the corner for two, followed by another such knee to keep Williams down. Dragunov goes up but gets kicked in the leg, allowing Williams to knock him to the floor. Cue JD McDonagh to watch as we take a break.

Long Form: NXT Star Gives Injury Update, To Miss 11-12 Months With Torn ACL

That’s a very long time. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to any wrestler as you never want to see someone put on the shelf. Unfortunately, no matter how much talent, experience or training that a wrestler can have, there is always the chance that something is going to go wrong. That was the case a few weeks back and now we know just how bad things are.
