KB’s Review: Pandora’s Raw

I love mythology. The huge collection of stories that are designed to explain everything about the world is endlessly fascinating with all kinds of characters and motivations to sort through. You could say the same thing about wrestling, and as it turns out, one story in particular from Greek mythology can be used to explain the biggest problem in modern day WWE. Maybe there was something to that Coliseum Video introduction after all. The story of Pandora’s Box is something that you’re likely familiar with, possibly just due to the name alone. The idea is that Pandora opened a particular box that contained all the evils of the world: disease, anger, death and any other bad thing. She closed the box to prevent the rest from getting out, but the only thing left inside was hope, which wasn’t unleashed upon the world. That’s where Monday Night Raw is at the moment. There’s Something About TLC. More WWE Names Are Sick.

It’s an epidemic. Earlier this week, news came out that Finn Balor was sick and had to come home early from the South American tour. While it isn’t clear if Balor is going to be ready to compete at this Sunday’s TLC event, he likely should be good to go. However, it turns out that Balor isn’t the only person in the WWE locker room who is under the weather at the moment. According to their social media accounts, both Mandy Rose and Alexa Bliss are both ill as well at the moment. There is no word on if this is the same illness as Balor, but according to Cagesideseats.com, Rose’s illness is believed to be the reason why she missed her scheduled match against Naomi earlier this week on SmackDown live. That’s not your normal day at the office. There’s no secret to the fact that Vince McMahon isn’t your typical boss. He’s a bit on the insane side at times but is also willing to get in the ring and do whatever it takes to get a story or another wrestler over. At the same time though, McMahon does occasionally wrestle himself, and that can make things rather interesting. That would be especially true one night with Sgt. Slaughter. In a new interview with Wrestling News, Sgt. Slaughter told a story about McMahon wanting to be a wrestler but never being allowed to by his father, who wanted McMahon to stay as an announcer. Slaughter once told McMahon that if he wanted to wrestle, he could put on a mask and wrestle Slaughter at a smaller show. McMahon did just that and Slaughter said the match took place. The Big Daddy. WWE Signs A Major Name For NXT UK.

That’s a big one. The WWE has gone out of their way to expand the NXT UK brand. After this weekend’s announcement of the first ever NXT UK Takeover, it’s clear that WWE has some big plans around here. The talent is already there on the brand, but you need some big names in there to really make an impact. Sometimes you need a big name here or there, and that’s what WWE seems to have done. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has signed top European name WALTER (as it is spelled). The current Progress Wrestling World Champion, WALTER is a big man who wrestles a power style and is well known for his chops. He recently dropped the PWG World Title, which may have been for the sake of signing with WWE. At the moment this would be for the NXT UK brand only, though there is a chance that he could come over to work some regular NXT dates. You’re going to need to get used to this guy. The show was packed and treated like the big deal that it is, which allowed for some major moments and good action. Heading into WWE TLC, Ronda Rousey will defend the Raw Women’s Title against Nia Jax. A lot of people might not be happy to see Jax receive a push after her botch, but the fans are in an interesting place with the Raw Women’s Champion as well. Rousey is still adjusting to performing inside the ring and there are some harsh criticisms against her. For instance, she has been criticized for smiling too much during her entrance and not creating an atmosphere like she should. That’s a special one. This weekend, WWE presented a special house show in the form of Starrcade. The original run of the show was the biggest event of the year for the NWA/WCW and was brought back last year for the first time since December 2000. Well Hello Again. Former World Champion Returns At Starrcade.

Sometimes you get a surprise. This weekend, WWE presented Starrcade as a special house show. The event certainly has some history to it, even in WWE as it was held last year as well. The card was stacked and featured two steel cage matches and a special appearance from Ric Flair. However, in addition to the big card, there was a special surprise for the fans in attendance. Bray Wyatt made his return at Starrcade, answering an open challenge from Baron Corbin and defeating him with a rollup. After the pin, Corbin restarted the match with no disqualifications. This brought out Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre to beat Wyatt down but Elias and Finn Balor made the save, allowing Wyatt to pick up the win with Sister Abigail. This was Wyatt’s first match since September 15 on Monday Night Raw. There is no word on when Wyatt will return to TV. How about a fresh one of these?
