There’s The News: Update On Cody Rhodes’ Injury Status (And It’s Not Good)

That’s a long time off. Cody Rhodes made his surprise return to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and has since taken WWE by storm. Rhodes has become one of the biggest stars in WWE and even headlined last weekend’s Hell In A Cell event. However, Rhodes has suffered a major injury and that is the kind of thing that could slow him down for awhile. Now we know just how long that might be. Before Hell In A Cell, Rhodes suffered a torn pectoral muscle while training, though he did manage to wrestle his scheduled match anyway. This week on SmackDown, Michael Cole announced that as a result of the injury, Rhodes will be out of action for about nine months. Rhodes underwent successful surgery to repair the injury on Thursday in Birmingham, Alabama. Update: After successful surgery, @CodyRhodes will be out of action for nine months. #SmackDown pic.twitter.com/5ITIvRzPcL — WWE (@WWE) June 11, 2022 Opinion: This is the bad news that you probably knew was coming but that doesn’t make it any better. Good For Him: WWE Star Auctioning Off Ring Worn Gear For A Special Cause

That’s a nice thing to do. Wrestlers are in a weird place when it comes to celebrity status, as while they are known for being on television every week, they are still wrestlers at the end of the day. While that does not leave them with a lot of mainstream appeal, there are still several people who are huge fans. Now one wrestler is appealing to some of those fans for help with a good cause. Monday Night Raw’s Finn Balor is auctioning off some ring worn gear to benefit the Essex & Hertfordshire Air Ambulance. Up for auction is a shin guard and knee pad, both signed, along with a signed Topps trading card, plus another lot featuring the same items along with a pair of ring work trunks. The items come with a certificate of authenticity from the Graham Budd auction house, with bidding ending on June 26. Signed ring gear available for a great cause ??https://t.co/vBpRqbgZWz — Finn Bálor (@FinnBalor) June 11, 2022 Opinion: I can always go for something like this as Balor is doing someth..

WATCH: WWE Star Possibly Injured During Match On This Week’s SmackDown

It can happen to anyone. There are a lot of ways for a wrestler to have their careers derailed and one of the easiest is through an injury. These things can pop up at any given time and some of them can be absolutely devastating. Unfortunately you never know when they are going to happen and it seems that we might have seen another one right before our eyes this week. This week’s edition of WWE SmackDown featured a match between Lacey Evans and Xia Li for a spot in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. Evans won the match to qualify, defeating Li with the Woman’s Right. A video from after the match has made its way to YouTube, showing Li being checked on by the referee and medical staff. Li had to be helped to the back and it is not clear how badly she may be hurt. There is no word on her potentially missing any ring time. That doesn’t look good. Check out Li after her match on SmackDown: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Hopefully Li is ok and just shaken u..

Former WWE Star Reveals Interesting Gimmick Planned For Him

That could have been different. There are a lot of things that have to come together to make a wrestler work out. If one of those things are missing or off, the whole thing might not come together. One of the biggest is the wrestler’s name and getting it wrong can be quite the detriment for a wrestler. It seems that WWE almost had a very interesting choice for a returning wrestler last year. In a new interview with Inside The Ropes, Davey Boy Smith Jr. revealed that there were plans to give him a new gimmick during his 2021 WWE return. Smith would have worn his father’s vest and gone under the name the Stampede Stud. The plan had been for him to appear on SmackDown but he never wrestled on television before being released from the company in November 2021. Opinion: Honestly, Stampede Stud isn’t exactly a bad name and I could see something like this working. It sounds better than Davey Boy Smith Jr. or having the same nickname as his father. Smith was always in great shape and they co..

NXT LVL Up Results – June 10, 2022

NXT LVL Up Date: June 10, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Nigel McGuinness It’s time for another one of these which will likely have nothing whatsoever to do with the previous show and feature a bunch of stand alone matches. That is the standard formula around here and I wouldn’t expect to see it change anytime soon. It doesn’t mean the show will be bad, but it also doesn’t give me high expectations. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Valentina Feroz vs. Arianna Grace Yulisa Leon is here with Feroz. Grace takes her down by the arm to start but Feroz reverses into an arm crank of her own. A rollup doesn’t work so Grace powers her up for a drop onto the buckle. The chinlock goes on but Feroz fights up and gets two off a small package. Grace kicks her down and, after walking around so she can face the camera, gets two. Some throws put Grace down and she hits a spear but Grace is back up. That’s fine with Feroz, who grabs a backslide fo..

On The Shelf: SmackDown Star Out Of Action With Knee Injury

It can happen to anyone. An injury can put any wrestler on the shelf at any time and there is not much that can be done about it. The worst part is you never know when something is going to happen or how long the wrestler is going to be out as a result. The waiting game is terrible and now that is what we are going through again as a WWE is missing time due to an injury. This week on SmackDown, it was announced that Ridge Holland suffered a knee injury last week and was out of action. There is no word on what kind of an injury Holland suffered or how long he will be gone. Holland wrestled in a six man tag as part of the Brawling Brutes on last week’s show, losing to the team of New Day and Drew McIntyre in a street fight in the show’s opening match. Opinion: Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that can happen to a wrestler and you don’t know just how bad it is. A knee can be one of the nastier injuries as well as it isn’t something that often heals that fast. Hopefully things are..

Ouch: WWE Legend Announces Upcoming Surgery With Six Months Of Rehab

That’s a serious issue. Wrestling is a physical sport and something that can cause some very serious injuries to the wrestlers themselves. Some of these issues take place all at once and others are built up over time. You don’t know when you might see someone get hurt right in front of you, but this time it seems that there was an injury that might not have been so obvious. During the latest edition of his Something To Wrestle With podcast, WWE’s Bruce Prichard revealed that he has suffered a torn rotator cuff and will be undergoing surgery. As a result, Prichard will be undergoing six months of rehabilitation to get back to normal. There is no word on how much, if any, time he will miss from his position helping to run Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. Opinion: This is something that might have wider implications than it seems, as Prichard is such an influence on WWE’s major television shows. Having him away from the shows for that long could change the way they are presented, dependi..

Chris Jericho And MVP Had Altercation Last Month In Houston Hotel

These things do happen. Wrestlers are larger than life characters who get into physical altercations every single week on television. That can make for some very compelling moments, but there are also things that happen with them behind the scenes which can be all the more interesting. That seems to have been the case with two prominent modern wrestlers. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW’s Chris Jericho and WWE’s MVP got in a verbal altercation at a hotel in Houston on May 18. Around 1am, MVP arrived at the hotel and ran into Jericho and Matt Hardy. The incident did not get physical but was said to be “tense”, with Jericho getting to an elevator and saying he “doesn’t fight jobbers” as MVP was screaming in the lobby. It is not clear what caused the issue or if the two have resolved it since. MVP has commented on the situation on Twitter, suggesting that the incident took place but that the details were wrong. Even when they get the story right, they get the details ..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – November 26, 2007: Fight Towards The End

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Night Raw Date: November 26, 2007 Location: Bobcats Arena, Charlotte, North Carolina Attendance: 6,900 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler We’re done with the holiday week and the big story coming out of last week is the return of Chris Jericho. You can see the Raw main event of next month’s pay per view from here but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. Jericho is an instant main eventer and someone to give Orton a challenge, though he might have some rust to shake off first. Let’s get to it. We open with..

Longtime WWE Star Announces Departure From The Company

It had to happen eventually. Wrestlers have a fairly unique career path, as they rarely have a long time on top. At some point they have to find something else to do and it can often be harder than it seems. If a wrestler gets injured and can no longer get in the ring, their options are even more limited. That seems to be the case again and a longtime WWE star is making her exit. WWE’s Paige has announced that she will be leaving the company on July 7, ending her run that started in 2011. Paige was forced to retire from in-ring competition in 2018 after suffering a second major neck injury, which took place less than a month after her return from over a year away from the ring. Following her injury, Paige served as SmackDown General Manager in 2018. While she has not wrestled in nearly five years, Paige said that she will almost certainly return to the ring, though it is not clear when or where she will do so. Thank you @WWE ?? pic.twitter.com/9OhGjov13s — SARAYA (@RealPaigeWWE) Jun..

WWE Planning For Interesting John Cena Match At Summerslam

I’d call that a rub. There are very few stars in the history of wrestling who have reached the level of John Cena. He has been the face of WWE in the modern era and helped lead the company into its most profitable era ever. Cena has mainly become an actor in recent years but does still wrestle occasionally, which might be the case again on the big stage later this year. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is hoping to have Cena wrestle at this year’s Summerslam on July 30. The plan would be for Cena to face current United States Champion Theory at the show, though the plans have not yet been finalized. Cena is scheduled to return to Monday Night Raw on June 27. He has not wrestled since last year’s Summerslam, where he lost to Roman Reigns. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that Cena should be doing and WWE seems to understand that. Have him return, hype up the crowd, and then put someone young over. Cena isn’t going to be a full time star again but he is such a lege..

AEW Rampage Results – June 10, 2022

Rampage Date: June 10, 2022 Location: Cable Dahmer Arena, Independence, Missouri Commentators: Excalibur, Taz We are just over two weeks away from Forbidden Door but things have been shaken up pretty hard around here lately. A string of injuries has changed some of the direction in AEW but bringing in some of the New Japan wrestlers should help. That includes this week, as Will Ospreay/Aussie Open are teaming up to face FTR/Trent Beretta. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Eddie Kingston vs. Jake Hager Kingston strikes away to start but Hager knocks him down with a knee to the ribs. Hager sends him outside before it’s back inside to crank on both arms. They’re already back to the floor with Hager pounding away, followed by some forearms in the corner back inside. The armbar goes on back inside but Kingston fights up. That doesn’t go well for Kingston, who gets chopped so hard that he takes down the straps. Kingston kicks him in the head to take over, only to walk into an overhead be..

Impact Wrestling Results – June 9, 2022

Impact Wrestling Date: June 9, 2022 Location: Osceola Heritage Park, Kissimmee, Florida Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan We are rapidly approaching Slammiversary and that means it is time to start filling out the card. The main event is set but we still need to add in a few more spots here and there. This includes another name in the Ultimate X match, plus a likely Moose vs. Sami Callihan match. Let’s get to it. The opening sequence looks at Sami Callihan attacking Moose last week. Callihan wants Moose. Opening sequence, again featuring a classic TNA theme. Tenille Dashwood vs. Rosemary Madison Rayne is here too. Rosemary knocks her into the corner to start and a ram into the buckle makes it worse. Dashwood manages to get in a shot of her own though and pulls Rosemary outside for a crash to take over. Back in and the Upside Down doesn’t get Rosemary very far as Dashwood clotheslines her down. A full nelson is broken up though and a double clothesline gives them both a..

Vince McMahon And Other WWE Higher Ups Impressed By New Star

You have his attention. There are a lot of people in WWE but there are only a few whose opinions really matter. At the top of the list is none other than Vince McMahon, whose decisions can change the way the wrestling world works in the blink of an eye. Getting McMahon’s endorsement can mean the world to a wrestler and now he seems to be impressed by someone else. According to Fightful Select, “people of influence” in WWE are said to be impressed with Gunther. The people were said to be impressed with Gunther’s work in NXT as Walter, but his move to the main roster has also included his efforts to lose weight and get in better shape. McMahon himself is also said to be impressed with Gunther’s in-ring work since his debut on SmackDown. Opinion: It is nice to see that someone who is this talented is getting the recognition that he deserves. Gunther is someone who will get your attention no matter what he is doing and that includes having some hard hitting matches. He has done well so f..

Hand It Over: Title Change Takes Place On WWE SmackDown

History has been made! There are a lot of titles under the WWE banner and some of them have been around for a very long time. Those titles are the ones that can kick start a wrestler’s rise to the top and the Intercontinental Title has a history of doing just that. The title might not have a perfect record, but winning it can be a great sign. That might be the case again. This week on SmackDown, Gunther defeated Ricochet to win the Intercontinental Title for the first time in his career. Gunther debuted on SmackDown in April and has gone undefeated since then, with his match against Ricochet being his first title shot. This comes amid reports of WWE higher ups, including Vince McMahon himself, being impressed with Gunther’s work so far. Opinion: This is a nice thing to see as Gunther feels like someone who could be different. You don’t get a monster like him very often and the fact that WWE is willing to give him the title before he has had the chance to undergo one of the company’s ..

SmackDown Live Coverage And Results – June 10, 2022

Smackdown Date: June 10, 2022 Location: Raising Cane’s River Center Arena, Baton Rouge, Louisiana Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee It’s officially Money In The Bank season and that means we need to have some qualifying matches. Maybe they can even play the theme song fourteen times. Other than that, we might get to hear about something related to Roman Reigns wrestling again sometime in the future. But probably not. Let’s get to it. Commentary hypes up tonight’s historic show. Money In The Bank Qualifying Match: Sheamus vs. Drew McIntyre In the back, McIntyre throws Butch around and says he’ll see Sheamus out there. They hit each other hard to start with McIntyre getting the better of it off some chops. A Michinoku Driver gives Drew two but Sheamus sends him to the apron for the forearms to the chest. That’s reversed so Drew can hit his own, only to have Butch offer a distraction. Something like White Noise on the apron drops McIntyre and we take a break. Back with Sheamus hi..

Vince McMahon Wants To Release His Memoirs

That would be worth a read. There are several major names in wrestling history but all of them pale in comparison to Vince McMahon. Whether you like him or not, there is no denying that he is the most powerful person the wrestling industry has ever seen. McMahon has been around for the better part of fifty years and that means he is going to have some stories to tell. Now, he looks ready to tell them. According to the New York Post, McMahon is shopping his memoir around to various publishers. The story is written by McMahon and tells the story of how he took over the wrestling industry. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the idea is to put the book head to head with the book Ringmaster by Abraham Riesman, a McMahon biography due out in 2023. There is no word on if or when McMahon’s memoir would be released. Opinion: This is interesting as you can all but guarantee that someone, somewhere, will publish McMahon’s book. McMahon is someone who has dominated an industry and t..

KB’s Review: That’s Good Judgment

Stables have been a thing in wrestling for a very long time and it isn’t that much of a surprise. A stable allows a lot of wrestlers to get television time together rather than hoping that one or two of them can make it onto the show that week. That is something that has worked for a very long time and still does to this day. It could be as serious as the NWO or as goofy as 3MB but it can still work no matter what. That is the case again, though this week saw what I would consider an upgrade. Back at WrestleMania 38, Damian Priest gave Edge a surprise assist to help him defeat AJ Styles. The two would unite and form the Judgment Day stable, eventually adding Rhea Ripley. While the stable’s mission wasn’t entirely clear, Edge always teased adding new members, which finally took place again this week. It just might not have gone as he had planned. This week on Monday Night Raw, Finn Balor officially joined Judgment Day and almost immediately turned on Edge, laying him out with help fro..

Injury Scare Takes Place At This Week’s NXT Taping (CONTAINS MINOR SPOILER)

That could have been worse. Injury scares are one of the worst things that you can see on a wrestling show as you never know how bad they might be. Someone could get hurt and have their careers ended, but thankfully that is not always the case. Occasionally you can get some good news that night, which seems to have been the situation this week after an NXT star was hurt. According to PWInsider.com, there was an injury scare for Gigi Dolin during this week’s NXT taping. On Wednesday during the taping for the June 14 show, Dolin was injured during her match when Cora Jade hit her with a cannonball senton. Dolin did not get up and the match ended shortly thereafter. However, during the June 21 taping later in the night, Dolin did appear in the arena, though she did not get physical. There is no word on what happened to her or how much time, if any, she might miss from the ring. Opinion: The fact that Dolin was still in the arena later in the night rather than at the hospital is a pretty..

Franklin Who? Arena Accidentally Advertises Some Funny Names For WWE Live Event

Wait…who? There are a lot of different aspects that come together to make a wrestling star feel important but one of the biggest is their name. You can only get so far with a bad name and that has been shown on more than one occasion over the years. WWE has a hit and miss record with naming its wrestlers, but this time around even what they had isn’t quite right. WWE has a live event scheduled for the Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena in Atlantic City, New Jersey on August 14. There have been a few matches announced, but the arena’s website had listed incorrect names for the show. This includes “Seth “Franklin” Rollins” and “Ashule” instead of Seth “Freakin” Rollins and Asuka. The incorrect names were still listed as of Thursday morning but had been corrected later in the day. Had to see for myself that this is real. WWE is back. pic.twitter.com/OYYYUVal1c — Nationally Published Troll (@mongo_ebooks) June 9, 2022 Opinion: That’s the kind of error that might not mean anything in the sho..
