How USA And FOX Helped WWE Make A Whole Lot Of Money

One or the other. There are two major WWE television shows every week with Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. These have been the top shows in the wrestling world for well over twenty years with almost nothing coming anywhere near either show. Both air on national television, but the two shows almost did not exactly look the way that they wound up appearing.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, FOX, which currently airs SmackDown, originally wanted to acquire the broadcasting rights to Monday Night Raw. However, the USA Network had the right of first refusal to match any offer that FOX made. USA did so, which caused FOX to go after SmackDown instead. That was too much for USA to match as well, so FOX picked up SmackDown, with the end result being WWE making more money as a result.
Opinion: That right there is a shining example of how WWE makes money. They know how to make their content seem valuable and that is going to make more people invest in them. It works very well, especially w..

NXT LVL Up Results – March 25, 2022

NXT LVL Up
Date: March 25, 2022
Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida
Commentators: Nigel McGuinness, Sudu Shah
We’re back in Orlando and things have actually been changing a bit as of late. That could open up some doors going forward around here, though I wouldn’t get my hopes up. There are some names who are becoming regulars around here, as the levels of the NXT roster become more defined. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Joe Gacy vs. Quincy Elliott Elliott is a rather large man and before the match, Gacy says he deserves a chance. Gacy’s headlock doesn’t get him very far as Elliott hits a shoulder. Some gyrations mess with Gacy so Elliott grabs a headlock. That’s broken up so Gacy stomps him down in the corner before driving in elbows on the mat. The armbar goes on, with Gacy looking a bit crazy. Elliott fights up and hits a splash to the back as Gacy tries a drop down. Gacy gets tied in the Tree of Woe but Harland offers a distraction so Gacy can escape. The ha..

WWE Locks Up Important Name In New Long Term Deal

He’ll be around for a bit. There are a lot of people who come together to produce an edition of any WWE television, with the wrestlers themselves often not being the most important parts. With so many different people in so many different roles, it can be very important for WWE to sign as many people up long term as they can. That is what they have done again with an important piece of the puzzle.
During an appearance on the Sports Media With Richard Deitsch podcast, WWE performer Paul Heyman revealed that he has signed a new long term deal with the company. Heyman’s contract came up last year but he did not want to publicize his negotiations. The contract includes the ability for Heyman to work on outside projects, though he said his situation will always be “that WWE guy is doing an outside project”. Heyman is currently the special counsel for Roman Reigns and will be in his corner on Sunday at WrestleMania 38 against Brock Lesnar.
Opinion: That is the kind of signing that WWE need..

Yes And Yes: Two WWE Couples Are Getting Married

It’s a storytelling device. There are a lot of different ways to present an angle in professional wrestling. With so many things having been done over the years, it is rare to see something brand new being done, but there is the chance of seeing something done with a new twist. That was the case again this week, as a classic story was combined with itself.
Two marriage proposals took place this week on Monday Night Raw. 24/7 Champion Dana Brooke and Reggie were backstage when Reggie said he wanted to take things to a new level. This led him to propose, with Brooke accepting. Tamina then came in to attack Brooke, with Reggie making the save. Akira Tozawa then came in to propose to Tamina, who accepted as well. There is no word on when the weddings will take place.
Opinion: Marriages have been a thing in wrestling for a long time now but I don’t remember the potential of a double wedding. I’m not sure how well the idea is going to go, but I’ll take it over them running around and doing..

REVIEW: WrestleMania 14: The New Era

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Wrestlemania XIV
Date: March 29, 1998
Location: FleetCenter, Boston, Massachusetts
Attendance: 19,028
Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler
You might notice that things have picked up a lot since last year. This can mainly be attributed to the influence of Vince Russo, who isn’t remembered all that fondly. While his later efforts didn’t exactly work out very well (that’s putting it mildly), his early work with this kind of talent around him was a major part of the turnaround in the Monday Night Wars, which will fin..

Champions In Action After This Week’s Monday Night Raw

They aren’t finished. We are less than a week away from WrestleMania 38 and that means it is time for the final push towards the show. WWE has built up most of the card already but they still have some work to do before the weekend. That makes every bit of television time especially important, but this time around WWE kept going even after that time was already up.
According to Wrestlinginc.com, a dark match took place this week after Monday Night Raw went off the air. Following the show, Raw Tag Team Champions RKBro defeated the team of Seth Rollins and Austin Theory. RKBro had already defeated the Usos in a non-title match during the show’s main event. Both Rollins and Theory appeared on the show, with Theory defeating Finn Balor.
Opinion: This sounds like the classic concept of sending the fans home happy and that is a good idea. It is always nice to leave the fans with a positive memory as that is the kind of thing that can make them come back again next time. RKBro is the most p..

Backstage Issue Between AEW President Tony Khan And MJF

It’s going to happen at some point. AEW has not even been running shows for three years yet but they have hit the ground running. The company has an impressive roster full of young, up and coming talent along with some established veterans. Things have gone rather well so far, but there is always the chance of some issues. That seems to have been the case this week.
Last week, Maxwell Jacob Friedman sat down for an interview with Ariel Helwani. According to Fightful Select, this led to an argument between Friedman and AEW President Tony Khan. Friedman’s interview included a discussion of his contract status, with his current deal expiring on January 1, 2024. Friedman has stated he will go with a deal that makes the most financial sense. For him.
The interview had not been cleared by AEW, though Friedman did not say anything that caused a major problem. However, according to F4WOnline.com, the issues were settled with no fight, though there was a disagreement over the whole situation…

WWE Adds Two New Matches To WrestleMania During Monday Night Raw

The card is still growing. With less than a week to go before WrestleMania, WWE is doing everything it can to get the card finalized in time. This includes a variety of matches being added without much time left, including one added earlier this week. That is not all though, as another pair of matches have been added to the show later in the very same day. Each one even had a bit of a surprise.
WWE announced two more matches during this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw. First, Steve Rollins had a meeting with Vince McMahon where he was told that he would have a match at WrestleMania. This ends Rollins’ quest to find a path to the show. Later, Omos said he wanted a match at WrestleMania, with his challenge being accepted by the returning Bobby Lashley. The match was made official later in the show.
Opinion: WWE is cramming things in at the last minute and while that might not be the best look for WrestleMania, at least the matches are being made. Both of these matches are intriguing..

WWE Star Wins Prestigious And Historic Honor

That’s quite the honor. Wrestlers are known for winning championships, but one of the problems is that eventually most of those championships are lost. A wrestler is known as a former champion, but that is not exactly the same thing as continuing to hold a title. There are some titles that last forever though, and now a WWE star has won another one of those, albeit in a different kind of wrestling. WWE’s Gable Steveson has won the Danny Hodge Trophy, given to the NCAA’s top wrestler. Steveson becomes the first heavyweight to win the awards twice, having won it last season as well. He also won the NCAA Heavyweight Championship for the second year in a row and is expected to make his WWE debut at some point in the near future, having signed with the company after winning an Olympic gold medal last year.
Congratulations to @GableSteveson on back-to-back Dan Hodge Trophy wins becoming the first heavyweight to win the award multiple times! pic.twitter.com/dyM70fAZQW

Monday Night Raw Live Coverage And Results – March 28, 2022

Monday Night Raw
Date: March 28, 2022
Location: PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Jimmy Smith, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Michael Cole
It’s the last Raw before Wrestlemania and since this company doesn’t have the best ideas, that means this is Wrestlemania Raw. Hopefully that means we get some juice added to what has already been set for the card, because this isn’t looking like the strongest Wrestlemania so far. Let’s get to it.
Here is Brock Lesnar to get things going (with Michael Cole being heard saying “yes sir” during his entrance). After a look at Lesnar taking over Roman Reigns’ dressing room on Smackdown and beating up a bunch of security, Lesnar gets to do his own introduction. Lesnar: “That might have been good but it sounded like it sucked.” We are on the way to Wrestlemania so Lesnar is going to give us his game plan for his match with Roman Reigns.
They are going to go down memory lane in Suplex City and then go to the carnival. Reigns is taking..

WWE Confirms New Grudge Match For WrestleMania 38

One more for the card. With less than a week to go before WrestleMania, it is time for WWE to give us the final push towards the biggest event of the year. That is how things should be going in theory at least, as WWE still seems to have a lot of time to fill in on the card. WWE covered some of that time this week though, as another match has been added to WrestleMania.
The WrestleMania Twitter account has announced that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day will face Ridge Holland and Sheamus on WrestleMania Saturday. This is fallout from Holland injuring Big E. earlier this month on SmackDown, which was followed by a series of singles matches between the team members. This will be Holland’s WrestleMania debut match.

Maybe? A WrestleMania Title Match That Didn’t Seem Likely May Still Be Happening

I hope they put it in pencil. WrestleMania 38 is less than a week away and that means that the card should be all set up. That is the case in theory at least as WWE seems to continue to make changes with just a few days to go before the show. Some matches have been announced for this week’s edition of SmackDown, suggesting that the wrestlers might not be appearing at WrestleMania. It turns out that might not be the case though.
Last week on SmackDown, United States Champion Finn Balor and Damian Priest were both announced for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on the following week’s show. This suggested that neither would be wrestling on WrestleMania, despite the two of them having issues as of late. However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the match is still listed internally for WWE and may still take place. WWE has yet to announce the match.
Opinion: This would make things a bit better, as the current setup seems to suggest that neither the United States no..
