Rampage Date: January 20, 2023 Location: Save Mart Center, Fresno, California Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Chris Jericho We’re still in California and this week’s Dynamite is going to be a bit tough to follow. There is a good chance that we are going to get some solid matches though, as tends to be the case around here. Rampage can be rather fun when it comes to focusing on some of the lower level stuff and that might be what happens again this week. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jungle Boy vs. Ethan Page Isaiah Kassidy, Stokely Hathaway and Matt Hardy are here with Page. Chris Jericho rants about the fans singing along with Jungle Boy’s theme song as Page tries an Ego’s Edge out of the corner to start. That’s broken up and Page is sent to the floor, where he pulls Kassidy in the way of a dive. Back in and Page catches Jungle Boy on top but a dropkick puts him right back down. Hold on though as Hathaway interferes but blames Hardy, allowing Page to whip J..
Another kind of match. There are a lot of ways to describe a wrestler but one that would come up as often as any other might be tough. Wrestlers are athletes who have to make you believe they are in a real fight, which can be rather tricky at times. On occasion, they have to do something very legitimate, and that was the case in a much more serious situation for a wrestling legend. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Back Soon: AEW Star Reveals Recent Surgery During a new interview with Wrestlinginc.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Duggan revealed that a man broke into his home on December 8 at around 6:45pm, armed with a gun. Duggan took the man down and took the gun from him, holding him at gunpoint until the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Department arrived to arrest the man. Duggan said that the intruder was frightened as people from a nearby home were attempting to kill him and entered the home after pounding on several other nearby doors. Following the arrest, Duggan declined to press charges against t..
That would be a fight. Wrestling is a unique sport as while it is presented as a legitimate fight, the finishes are pre-determined and the wrestlers are tasked with working together to make the match work as well as possible. However, there are also questions about who would win should these matches be legitimate contests. Now one legend is chiming in on who he thinks could beat a top WWE star. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Braun Strowman Gets Slapped Hard During WWE Dark Match During an interview with Wrestling Shoot Interviews, former WWE and WCW star the Barbarian was asked what would happen in a fight between Brock Lesnar and Haku. Barbarian said that he felt if the fight was structured with rules, Lesnar would win, but if it was a bar fight with no rules and both in their primes, Haku would be able to take Lesnar. Haku is often cited as the toughest wrestler in history, while Lesnar is a former UFC Heavyweight Champion and NCAA Heavyweight Wrestling Champion. These are some tal..
Now that’s irony. Wrestlers have a tough time with their in-ring careers as they can get rather banged up from one match after another. Those things can lead to a variety of health issues which can shorten the wrestlers’ careers. At the same time though, there are other medical issues that can come up which have nothing to do with what happens in the ring. Those situations can be quite problematic as well, and now an AEW star is dealing with such an issue. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: Current AEW Champion Working Through Painful Injury AEW’s Saraya has revealed that she had to have her wisdom teeth removed, which took place right around the same time as she was about to wrestle Britt Baker, a real life dentist. Saraya also confirmed that Baker did not perform the surgery, but she did send Baker a video when she was coming out of anesthesia, blaming her for the issues. There is no word on how long Saraya will be missing from AEW TV. Her video was also uploaded to Twitter. Landed from..
Welcome back. There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and some of them have made quite the impact. The interesting thing is that such an impact can be made with or without having a ton of accomplishments. Occasionally you will see a wrestler who stands out without some major push. Now another one of those wrestlers is returning to the ring for a good cause. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Major Main Event Planned For WWE Elimination Chamber Create A Pro Wrestling has announced that former WWE star Alex Riley will be wrestling his first match in six years when he teams up with Tyrus to face VBU at their Holiday Toy Drive event. Riley, 41, is a former WWE and NXT star who worked as the Miz’s associate during his time on the main roster. This will be his first match for any promotion in six years and there is no word on if he will be wrestling more than this one match. ?MATCH ANNOUNCEMENT? We have some sad news to report today as former WWE superstar and Tough Enough winner Sara Lee has passed away at the age of 30. Her mother announced the news on her Facebook page. WWE Tough Enough 2015 winner, Sara Lee has sadly passed away at the age of 30, as shared by her mother on Facebook. Heartbreaking. RIP. pic.twitter.com/wbaYLGx6nR — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) October 6, 2022 From Bleacher Report: Lee appeared on the comeback season of the WWE reality competition series in 2015, earning a one-year contract with the company. She was released from her contract in 2016. The cause of Lee’s death has not been announced. She posted a photo of herself on Instagram two days ago with a caption that read, “Celebrating finally being healthy enough to go to the gym 2 days in a row … first ever sinus infection kicked my butt.” She was a surprising winner of Tough Enough, as she had been up for elimination five times before being named a finalist. The fans voted her as the winner, a..
They don’t seem happy with him. There are no people in wrestling, or almost anywhere else for that matter, like Brock Lesnar. In addition to being one of the most successful WWE stars of all time and a champion in multiple other sports, Lesnar is known for his love of hunting and fishing. However, one of those things has landed him in some hot water, at least from some fans. Lesnar has posted a photo to Twitter showing him holding the head of a buck that he likely killed himself. The photo has resulted in a series of negative reactions from fans on Twitter, condemning Lesnar for killing the animal. Lesnar has not responded to the tweets. Lesnar last wrestled for WWE at Summerslam in July and is expected to return to the ring at Crown Jewel in November. That’s certainly something to say. AEW’s locker room is in a bit of a state at the moment and that is the kind of thing you do not want to see happen very often. The company is having some issues with its wrestlers and its leadership, which has been going on for more than awhile now. One of the company’s leaders tried to help things out with it not that long ago, but some of the details might not have been so well received. Back on August 24, AEW held a talent meeting before Dynamite. Several veterans spoke at the meeting, including Kenny Omega. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Omega took more of a “tough love” approach, including a statement that he would not have hired eight out of the ten wrestlers present. Omega was said to be joking with Will Ospreay when he said this, but the comment was taken seriously by others, who were reportedly upset. He went on to say that the locker room energy was different than when AEW began, which was suggested as Omega wanting to retu..
We have some sad news to report today as former WWE referee David Hebner passed away at 73. David’s nephew, Brian, took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the unfortunate news: I’m so sad. Just don’t really know what to say. Today we lost one of the good ones…….My uncle David. He was one of the best humans in the world. Thank you all for all the outpouring of messages and support. This is a tough one. I Love You Uncle David. God got a good one. I’m so sad. Just don’t really know what to say. Today we lost one of the good ones…….My uncle David. The rematch the world wanted to see. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the match between John Cena and Kevin Owens from Money in the Bank 2015. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Even as Cena took control in the opening moments, the prize fighter’s hubris never wavered, commenting mid-match on Cena’s tough early attack: “How’d that work out for you last time?” Owens backed up his trash talk further by hitting Cena’s signature combination — a pair of shoulder blocks, side slam and 5-Knuckle Shuffle. Cena wouldn’t stay down, though. He battled through Owens’ hard-hitting punches and slam with resiliency that would have made any fan of the hometown Blue Jackets smile. When Cena hoisted Owens into position for an Attitude Adjustment, adding a “You can’t see me” taunt for good measure, it seemed academic. Then Owens powered out of the pinfall at a late two, and the Cenation leader nea..
NXT Date: June 7, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph We’re fresh off In Your House and the show came with a few changes. The North American and Tag Team Titles changed hands so there is some fresh blood in the gold scene around here. This week’s features the finals of the Women’s Breakout Tournament as Tiffany Stratton faces Roxanne Perez. Let’s get to it. We open with a match by match recap of In Your House. Here is new North American Champion Carmelo Hayes, with Trick Williams, for a chat. Hayes is really happy to have the title back and gives Cameron Grimes credit for a tough fight on Saturday. He brags about his greatness, but here is Solo Sikoa to interrupt. Sikoa says he has next, but Hayes says that deal was with Grimes, not the new champ. Now it’s Grayson Waller to interrupt, saying it doesn’t matter who Sikoa’s family is because no one cares or likes him. The brawl is on, with Sikoa being taken down by some tripl..
So that was the plan? We are coming up on WrestleMania Backlash which is always in a tough spot. WWE is trying to follow up on WrestleMania while also doing something to get things off on a new foot. That is a rather tricky balancing act and WWE has the card all set up. The show has a bit of an interesting main event, and now we know what WWE was thinking when they set it up. One of the main events of WrestleMania Backlash will see RKBro/Drew McIntyre vs. the Bloodline. The match was originally a Tag Team Title unification match between RKBro and the Usos but Roman Reigns and McIntyre were added to make it a non-title six man. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the six man tag was always the plan for the match, even with the Tag Team Title match being announced. McIntyre vs. Reigns is still planned for later this year but there is no word on if the Tag Team Title unification match is still planned. Opinion: This makes me all the more confused, as I’m not sure why WWE wou..
It was nice while it lasted. Women’s wrestling has come a very long way in WWE in the last few years, as it has gone from a complete joke to something actually worthwhile. The company has built up a roster with some depth and women’s matches are treated as big deals these days. There is even a tag team division, though now one of those teams seems to be no more. Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley unsuccessfully challenged Sasha Banks and Naomi for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles this week on Monday Night Raw. Following the match, Ripley blamed Morgan for the loss and attacked her, seemingly ending their team. Following the attack, Ripley said that she did not owe anyone an explanation for the split. Ripley and Morgan only began regularly teaming together in early March of this year. This didn’t go well. Check out how the match and split went down: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure if this is the biggest surprise as the two of them seemed ready to be split up ..
He’s got some gold. Titles are the most important part of almost any wrestling show as they are the easiest story to tell. You can see someone win, defend, lose or pursue a title and everyone can understand the concept without much trouble. This has worked since professional wrestling began, but this time around someone has won a title that they are not going to lose. Gable Steveson won the NCAA Heavyweight Championship over the weekend for the second year in a row. After the match, Steveson officially retired from amateur wrestling. Steveson signed with WWE last year and appeared at Summerslam before being drafted to Monday Night Raw in the 2021 WWE Draft. He is expected to begin working with WWE full time in the near future. Some weren’t so subtle. It is never easy to lose a wrestling legend. You never know when someone might go and it can be even worse when someone is gone in a surprise. This can often bring up some very sad memories, but also some positive ones as people get to think about what the departed wrestlers mean to them. That was the case this week and there were several tributes to be seen. WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Scott Hall passed away on Monday at the age of 63 after suffering three heart attacks. Following his passing, WWE paid tribute to him this week on Monday Night Raw, including a graphic and a memorial video. In addition, several wrestlers paid tribute to Hall throughout the night. Kevin Owens used Hall’s “hey yo” catchphrase and later in the night, he told Seth Rollins that “tough times don’t last, tough guys do”, in reference to Hall’s WWE Hall of Fame induction speech. Damian Priest also used Hall’s signature walk and the Razor’s Edge during his match. Finn Balor al..
NXT Date: February 22, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph We are done with Vengeance Day and that means it is time to head on to whatever the next special show is going to be. The show is going to need a main event and odds are we will find out what that is tonight as Tommaso Ciampa and Raw’s Dolph Ziggler meet in a #1 contenders match. Let’s get to it. We open with a long Vengeance Day recap. Here is NXT Champion Bron Breakker for a chat. He talks about Santos Escobar being a tough opponent last week but now it is time for a new opponent. That could be as soon as Stand & Deliver, which will take place over Wrestlemania weekend. Cue Dolph Ziggler, who says he’ll be NXT Champion sooner than later, but the question is whether Breakker will make it to Stand & Deliver as champion. Tonight, Ziggler is going to take out Tommaso Ciampa and get his title shot, but Breakker wants to fight over Ziggler superkicking him last week. ..
