Mercedes Mone overcame both a tough opponent and an unexpected wardrobe malfunction during throughout this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

The CEO squared off against Hazuki in the semifinal round of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament in a hard-fought singles showdown. Tensions were already high after Moné attempted to ambush the STARDOM standout before the encounter — though Hazuki quickly shut down the attack and entered the match ready for a fight.

As the contest unfolded, viewers noticed a noticeable red discoloration on Mone’s face, leading some audience to fear that she had been busted open. It soon became apparent, on the other hand, that the issue stemmed from a wardrobe malfunction, as dye from her wig appeared to be running during the contest.

Despite the distraction, Mone never surrendered focus. Hazuki nearly secured a major upset when she trapped The CEO in a Crossface submission hold. Moné managed to escape by rolling through into a backslide three count attempt, forcing Hazuki to release the hold.

The two competitors continued to trade momentum in a highly competitive encounter before Moné finally turned the tide. Additionally, the one-time TBS Reigning champion locked in her Bank Statement tap out, leaving Hazuki with no choice although to tap out.

With the victory, Mone advances to the finals of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament and now sits one win away from capturing the prestigious tournament for a second consecutive year. She will crowd favorite the winner of the other semifinal matchup between Athena and tournament wild card Maya World.

Interestingly, Mone’s gear mishap came just days after Jade Cargill experienced a similar wig-related wardrobe malfunction during WWE SmackDown.
