REVIEW: Elimination Chamber 2019: It’s Still Running Wild

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Elimination Chamber 2019 Date: February 17, 2019 Location: Toyota Center, Houston, Texas Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young, Tom Phillips, Percy Watson It’s the first of two stops on the Road to Wrestlemania and that means we’ll be seeing a big steel structure. In this case it’s for the WWE Championship and the inaugural WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. The structure alone makes this a little more interesting and hopefully it’s good on top of that. Let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Cruise..

WATCH: WWE Legend Backstage At AEW Dynamite

To the other side. There have been all kinds of wrestlers over the years and a good number of them have wrestled in WWE at some point. The names who have wrestled for WWE are often far better known than most other stars, as WWE is the most viewed promotion in the world. It can mean a little something when one of its former stars goes elsewhere, and that is the case for at least one name. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Switch: Two AEW Stars Turn Heel On Dynamite As shown in Renee Paquette’s Instagram stories, Danielle Moinet, formerly known as Summer Rae during her time in WWE, was backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite in Fresno, California. There is no word on why she was there or if she filmed any content for the company. Moinet was also backstage at Monday Night Raw earlier this month. She last appeared in the 2022 women’s Royal Rumble. It’s always cool to see her around. Check out the video, plus some of her time in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vid..

It Didn’t Work: Bryan Danielson Reveals How He Tried To Get Fired From WWE Job

He wanted out. There are all kinds of different WWE programs every week and not all of them involve actual wrestling. The company regularly features a variety of shows recapping recent action or focusing on interviews with wrestlers. Those shows have their own regular hosts, but a former one is now recalling a time when he was desperately trying to get off his own show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Try Him: AEW Reportedly Planning Push For Popular Star Bryan Danielson appeared on Renee Paquette’s The Sessions podcast and discussed their time hosting Talking Smack in WWE. Danielson revealed that during some of his time on the show, he was actively trying to get fired. Danielson cited frustrations with not being medically cleared to wrestle and not wanting to be brought in for television for just Talking Smack. In efforts to get fired, Danielson would regularly bring up James Ellsworth having a “huge hog” despite being told not to by management. Eventually Danielson was cleared to return to ..

What Could Have Been: Here’s What Was Originally Planned For CM Punk After All Out

What could have been. This year has included all kinds of huge changes, twists and turns in the wrestling industry, some of which have been among the biggest in years. AEW is no exception, with the backstage fight after All Out being at the top of their list. The situation was bound to have fallout, and now we know something else about the fallout for a group of wrestlers. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: She’s In: Interesting Story On How Britt Baker Brought Top Star Into AEW Following this year’s All Out, CM Punk and Ace Steele got into a backstage brawl with the Elite, which left everyone involved suspended. Punk’s future with the company is up in the air, but he was stripped of the World Title immediately after the incident. During an appearance on the Sessions with Renee Paquette, Stokely Hathaway revealed that Punk was scheduled to work with the Firm. Hathaway says Punk made it clear that he wanted to work with him, which meant a lot to Hathaway, no matter what happened. The Firm has a ..

Former WWE Star Reportedly Retired From In-Ring Competition

It was a great run? Wrestlers are unlike other athletes as they eventually have to step away from the ring and move on to something else. That can be a little tricky as you never know when someone is going to wrestle their last match. Sometimes you have to wait to hear the announcement from the source itself, but now we are getting something fairly close enough. During a recent edition of The Sessions with Renee Paquette, AEW’s Shawn Spears said that former WWE star Tyler Breeze told him he was retired from the ring. The two were training together at their training school and Breeze said he was done in the ring rather than getting ready for a return. Spears says that he can still see the excitement in Breeze’s eyes but Breeze said he is done. Breeze, 34 years old, last wrestled on the June 15, 2021 edition of NXT before being released from WWE. Opinion: This is sad to hear and hopefully Breeze is not retired at just 34 years old. He is a very talented star and someone who has done ve..

REVIEW: Crown Jewel 2018: This Is A New Low

Crown Jewel Date: November 2, 2018 Location: King Saud University, Stadium, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young We’re back on the other side of the world this time and things aren’t exactly going well. The focal point of the show is D-Generation X vs. the Brothers of Destruction with Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement in a detail that has been forgotten in the whole ordeal. Other than that we’re going to have a new Universal Champion today as Braun Strowman and Brock Lesnar face off for the title vacated by Roman Reigns. Let’s get to it. The video screen is in the shape of a crown for a nice touch. Kickoff Show: United States Title: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Rusev Nakamura is defending. Rusev throws him into the corner for some right hands and a shoulder to the ribs, followed by a suplex for one. A kick to the knee cuts Rusev down and we hit the front facelock. That stays on for a good while until Rusev pops up with a spinwheel kick. The Mach..

Renee Paquette (Young) Makes AEW Debut In Familiar Role

Welcome to the team. There are a lot of important roles in a wrestling show and some of them do not get the credit that they deserve. One of the most important groups is the broadcast team, including the backstage interviewers. They are often there to guide the fans in a certain directions with the questions that they ask and one of the better interviewers around today is no longer a free agent. AEW President Tony Khan has announced that Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young) has officially signed a deal with the company and joined the broadcast team. Paquette made her debut this week on Dynamite and conducted multiple interviews throughout the show. Paquette is best known for her time with WWE, where she was a backstage interviewer and color commentator. She is married to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley. Welcome to the team!@ReneePaquette is ALL ELITE! See you soon coming up at 8pm ET/7pm ET on @TBSNetwork TONIGHT! pic.twitter.com/Jwcq58P6RI — Tony Khan (@TonyKhan) October 12..

AEW Dynamite Results – October 12, 2022

Dynamite Date: October 12, 2022 Location: Coca-Cola Coliseum, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Tony Schiavone We’re up north this week and out of the United States (at least on land) for the first time. The main events feature a grand total of one American as we have Bryan Danielson challenging Chris Jericho for the Ring Of Honor World Title and Pac defending the All-Atlantic Title against Orange Cassidy. Let’s get to it. We start hings off with the debut of the newest member of the broadcast team: Renee Paquette (Young). She brings out Christian Cage, who insults Toronto and then brings in Luchasaurus. Jungle Boy vs. Luchasaurus Christian Cage is on commentary. Jungle Boy goes after him to start but gets powered into the corner. The uppercut off the top sends Luchasaurus to the floor and it’s already time for a table. Jungle Boy is in big trouble as the table is set up outside and we take a break. Back with Luchasaurus missing a charge and going into the post,..

Bryan Danielson On Real Life Heat With Miz And Famous Talking Smack Segment

It’s part of the business. Wrestling is a unique form of entertainment, as the industry is built around the idea of scripted feuds and rivalries. The wrestlers regularly get along behind the scenes, though that is not always the case. There are some wrestlers who do not get along no matter what, and that is the situation between two of the more prominent names today. AEW’s Bryan Danielson was a guest on Renee Paquette’s The Sessions podcast and discussed his real life heat with the Miz. Danielson talked about the segment between the two of them on Talking Smack, where Miz yelled at him after Danielson called Miz a coward in the ring. The original idea would be for Danielson to punch Miz, either causing him to get fired or to set up a match between the two. Danielson felt that it was better to walk away and leave Miz with his momentum as he was not medically cleared to wrestle. While Danielson said that they don’t like each other, he does respect Miz for all of his hard work. Since yo..

They Did! Two Former WWE Stars Have Gotten Married

Congratulations! Wrestling is a complicated industry as you have no idea when the wrestlers are going to be able to find free time for anything outside of the ring. The wrestlers are on the road almost constantly and romantic relationships can be even more complicated than anything else. Some wrestlers have figured it out though, even while working for different promotions. During a recent appearance on the Sessions podcast with Renee Paquette, AEW’s Toni Storm revealed that she and New Japan’s Juice Robinson have been married. The two had previously announced their engagement, with Storm saying that they had been planning a wedding before just deciding to get married one morning. There is nothing to indicate that the two will be wrestling together anytime soon. Opinion: This is one of those things that you do not see happen very often but it is always special no matter what happens. Storm and Robinson work for different companies but seem to have found a way to pull this off. Good f..

REVIEW: Hell In A Cell 2018: Lock Them Up

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Hell in a Cell 2018 Date: September 16, 2018 Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves, Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton Welcome to the first show of the three that WWE is currently building. In this case we have the show designed around carnage and that could mean a few things. The show hasn’t exactly blown me away on paper but maybe they’ll surprise me here. There are two matches inside the big red cage tonight so let’s get to it. Kickoff Show: Smackdown Tag Team ..

Former And Current WWE Names Backstage At This Week’s AEW Dynamite

I know you! WWE and AEW are the two most popular and successful wrestling promotions in the United States and nothing else is really in the same ballpark at the moment. The company features some of the biggest names in wrestling, but there are several who are not working for either company right now. Some of those names were backstage at AEW this week, along with a current WWE star. According to Fightful Select, several former WWE names, plus a current WWE star, were backstage at this week’s AEW Dynamite. Dolph Ziggler was backstage visiting friends, as well as his brother Ryan Nemeth. In addition, CJ Perry (formerly known as Lana) was backstage with her husband Miro, along with Renee Paquette (formerly known as Renee Young), with her husband Jon Moxley. None of the names were mentioned on the broadcast and there is nothing to suggest that any are coming to AEW. Opinion: This isn’t much of a surprise as all three of the names have family working for AEW. It is nice to see some of the..

REVIEW: NXT Takeover: Fatal 4 Way: The Sequel

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? NXT Takeover: Fatal Fourway Date: September 11, 2014 Location: Full Sail University, Winter Park, Florida Attendance: 400 Commentators: Tom Phillips, Byron Saxton, Renee Young The question here is can they pull it off three times in a row. Arrival and the first Takeover were both outstanding shows that have set quite the standard for NXT, but now it’s up to them to pull it off one more time. The title tells you all you need to know about the main event with NXT Champion Adrian Neville defending against Sami Zayn, ..

REVIEW: WrestleMania 35: All The Good Feelings

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestlemania XXXV Date: April 7, 2019 Location: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey Attendance: 82,265 Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Renee Young, Byron Saxton, Tom Phillips America the Beautiful: Yolanda Adams We’re back to this show after a year away and I’m not sure what to think about this one. I wasn’t in the stadium for this one and for once that is making me remember the show a little bit better. This whole thing is centered around a few matches, as Wrestlemania always tends to be. Let’s..

Paige VanZant Explains Why She Chose AEW Over WWE

What could have been. AEW has brought in several wrestlers throughout its brief history, with several of them coming from different backgrounds. Some of them have not even come from wrestling, which makes can make for some interesting situations. That was the case earlier this month when a mixed martial artist was brought into the fold, but she could have had a very different story. Earlier this month, Paige VanZant officially signed with AEW, following multiple appearances with the company. VanZant appeared on Throwing Down With Renee and Meisha and explained that she had a meeting at WWE headquarters last year about the possibility of signing with them instead. However, WWE had a “different plan” for her, though she did not explain what it was. VanZant said that she was happy that AEW would let her continue with MMA and are knuckle boxing while also wrestling for them. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise for me but it’s probably for the best. At the end of the day, WWE has a h..

REVIEW: Clash Of Champions 2019: And Then The Scary Part

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Clash Of Champions 2019 Date: September 15, 2019 Location: Spectrum Center, Charlotte, North Carolina Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Tom Phillips Even though titles are an everyday part of wrestling, we have here a full show all about them, because most shows need to have a theme these days. There are a lot of matches crammed onto this show, though thankfully they have moved King of the Ring to Raw tomorrow to save some space. Let’s get to it. I was in the arena for this show..

Scarlett Reveals Why She Never Debuted On WWE Main Roster (It’s A Unique One)

That’s a unique one. There are all kinds of injuries that can take place to any wrestler at any time. Some of these are a lot more serious than others and it is awful to see anyone get hurt in any way. These things can happen to anyone at any time, but there are some others that are only going to be able to happen to certain wrestlers. One such situation caused a wrestler’s in-ring career to be put on hold. Scarlett Bordeaux appeared on a recent edition of Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions podcast and discussed her time in WWE. Bordeaux had been participating in dark matches before Monday Night Raw and SmackDown when she realized that she had damaged one of her breast implants. As a result, she needed to undergo surgery to repair the issue but planned to manage. WWE told her that she would wrestle when she was cleared but she ultimately never appeared on the main roster. Bordeaux was ultimately released from WWE on November 4. Bordeaux was a valuable star in NXT. Check out what she did ..

Jon Moxley Entering Inpatient Alcohol Treatment Program

I hope that he gets better really soon. According to a series of tweets from AEW President and CEO Tony Khan, Jon Moxley will be taking some time away from professional wrestling and entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program. Khan tweeted out the following in regards to Moxley: Jon Moxley has allowed me to share with you that he is entering an inpatient alcohol treatment program. Jon is a beloved member of the AEW family. We all stand with him and Renee, and all of his family and friends, as he shifts his focus to recovery. Jon is making a very brave choice to get help, and we’re embracing his choice and supporting him however we can. I’m proud to call Jon a friend, and like many of you, I’m also a fan of Mox and look forward to a time in the future when he is eventually ready to return to the ring. Until then, thank you for supporting Jon and respecting his privacy at this time. If you or a loved one need help, please reach out to SAMHSA’s National Helpline: 1-800-662-HELP ..

REVIEW: Super Showdown 2018: Go Under Down Big (Or Something Like That)

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Super Show-Down Date: October 6, 2018 Location: Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia Commentators: Michael Cole, Renee Young, Corey Graves We’re at the latest big international show here and that means…well it’s hard to say actually. There’s a lot going on at the moment in WWE but they have a tendency to turn these shows into a glorified house show with almost nothing happening. Hopefully WWE has figured that out and knows that we need to actually get something important on the show. Let’s get to it. Th..

CM Punk Blasts Former WWE Bosses, Says They Were “65 And Racist”

I guess he isn’t a fan. There have been a lot of changes to the wrestling world in recent months and that is likely going to continue to be the case for a good while to come. Some of the moves have been bigger than others, but one of the most important was CM Punk’s arrival in AEW last month. It was quite the change, but one of the more interesting parts is seeing what Punk has to say now that the move is done. Punk was a guest on a recent edition of Oral Sessions with Renee Paquette and discussed his time in WWE. Punk talked about how there were several people in WWE who would get wrestlers off of television if they did not understand something. This included his early days in WWE in 2006/7 when unnamed people did not seem to get what Punk was doing. Punk’s thoughts at the time was that they were “65 and racist” so he was happy those people did not like him. Punk has been a rather different person since he came to AEW. Check out some of his time there so far: [This post contains vi..
