Impact Wrestling Results – March 9, 2023

Impact Wrestling Date: March 9, 2023 Location: Sam’s Town Live, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are on our way to a trio of shows with Sacrifice, Multiverse United and Rebellion, which makes for quite the packed series of builds. That got started last week with a little something for each show getting time, but they are going to have to do it again for the next few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Here is Bully Ray to get things going. At No Surrender, Tommy Dreamer used the words “someone like me” (meaning Ray). What did he mean when he said that? Did he mean a two time Hall of Famer or half of the greatest tag team ever? Maybe a two time World Champion? Ray wishes he knew what Dreamer meant, because he threw hot coffee into Dreamer’s face. Dreamer wants a Busted Open match at Sacrifice but there is no way Dreamer is making it there. Cue Santino Marella to call Bully “Bobby Ray” and say that Dreamer will be at Sacrifice. It was only a minor ..

Ring Of Honor Date: March 2, 2023 Location: Universal Studios, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman So after a year or so of Ring Of Honor being a major part of AEW, it is time for the company to get its own show. That might mean quite a few things, but there is a good chance that we are going to be seeing a bunch of AEW stars around here. This show could go in a few different ways though so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Mark Briscoe vs. Slim J The rest of the Trustbusters are here with Slim J, who kicks away the Code Of Honor before the bell. Redneck Kung Fu sends J outside but a Mark Sterling distraction lets J get in a low blow. Briscoe is fine enough to kick J to the floor, setting up the dropkick through the ropes. It’s too early for the chair assisted dive so Briscoe strikes away back inside. Another Sterling distraction lets J hit a knee to the face, setting up a reverse DDT for two. Briscoe is busted open as J chokes away in the corner, followe..

Therefore, we have a Beat The Clock Challenge between Bully Ray and Tommy Dreamer. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Motor City Machine Guns vs. Jonathan Gresham/Mike Bailey Non-title and Gresham takes Shelley down by the leg to start. Bailey comes in and kicks away at said leg, with Gresham and Bailey taking turns on it. Shelley manages to knock Bailey outside though and it’s the Guns taking over for a change. He Almost Got There: How Ricochet Wanted To Pay A Gory Tribute To Steve Austin

That would have been a tribute. There are certain images in wrestling that are absolutely iconic no matter how you look at them. These are the shots that you have seen for years and will continue to see for years to come, as they were some kind of a game changer in wrestling. Occasionally you will see someone pay tribute to such a moment, which was almost the case again recently. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They’re Next: WWE Discusses Bringing Back Two Former Champions During a recent interview with Metro, Ricochet revealed that he was attempting to recreate the classic Steve Austin bleeding visual from WrestleMania 13. It’s Not The Same: Thunder Rosa Announces AEW Return, But Not To The Ring

Well, kind of. Injuries are a terrible thing to see in wrestling as you never want a wrestler to be on the shelf for any length of time. WATCH: SmackDown Star Accidentally Busted Open With A Chair, Rushed To The Back

That’s a nasty one. Wrestling is a physical sport that does not often get the credit it deserves for everything that can go wrong. The wrestlers are highly trained and skilled professionals who know what they are doing, but there are times when something might not go as planned. That can often lead to a problem, which is what happened this week in a nasty situation. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: More Gold: WWE Considering New Main Event Level Title This week on SmackDown, Imperium attacked Braun Strowman, with Gunther putting him in an armbar. Ricochet ran in for the save with a chair to chase Imperium off, but one of his swings accidentally hit Gunther in the face. Gunther was busted open and, according to PWInsider.com, was immediately rushed to the back. After being checked out, Gunther was said to be fine and there is nothing to suggest he will miss any time. This didn’t look good. Check out the segment, plus another look with the chair shot and the two of them in a more controlled sit..

A Way To Go: WWE Hall Of Famer Thinks 44 Year Old Could End Retirement Soon

He has an idea. There are some great wrestling stars who are no longer active wrestlers. That does not mean their careers are over though, as there are other roles that they can fill once their in-ring career is over. However, there are still some moments where an ex-wrestler is the perfect choice to put back in the ring, and now one legend thinks that might be the right move. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Safe At Home: Hacksaw Jim Duggan Explains How He Stopped An Intruder At Gunpoint The end of this week’s Monday Night Raw featured Bobby Lashley shoving a referee who he blamed for a loss to Seth Rollins. As a result, WWE executive Adam Pearce came to the ring and fired Lashley, only to reinstate him the next day. During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall Of Famer Bubba Ray Dudley suggested that Pearce could face Lashley in a match. Pearce, 44 years old and a former five time NWA World Champion, retired from full time competition in 2014 but wrestled two matches for WWE in 202..

She’s In: Interesting Story On How Britt Baker Brought Top Star Into AEW

She has an eye for this. AEW has done quite a few things during its three and a half years of existence and quite a bit of those things have been built around the company’s roster. One of the most important things it that the company needs to bring in new talent to keep the roster fresh, which was what a prominent member of the roster helped them do in an important way. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One More? Wrestling Legend Claims AEW Wanted Him To Return Earlier this month at AEW Full Gear, Jamie Hayter defeated Toni Storm to become the new AEW Interim Women’s Champion, later promoted to full champion. During an interview with Busted Open Radio before the event, Britt Baker, Hayter’s on-screen associate, revealed that she originally recommended Hayter to AEW President Tony Khan. Baker said that she faced Hayter in a dive bar in the UK and the two have been friends ever since. Baker also described herself as Hayter’s #1 fan. The two have a nice history together. Check out the two of them..

He Seems Impressed: Seth Rollins’ High Praise For Famous Becky Lynch Moment

That is some high praise. There are moments in wrestling where you can tell that something big has changed. It might be a win, it might be a speech or it might be something else entirely, but something has happened that is going to shake things up in wrestling. That was the case with a special moment back in 2018, and now a WWE star has some high praise for what happened. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Add It Up: New Grudge Match Set For WWE Survivor Series On the November 12, 2018 Monday Night Raw, SmackDown’s Becky Lynch invaded the show to attack Monday Night Raw’s Ronda Rousey, setting up their Survivor Series match six days later. A brawl broke out between the two shows’ women’s divisions, with Lynch being punched by Nia Jax. The punch busted Lynch open and left her with a concussion, causing Lynch vs. Rousey to be postponed. Lynch, with her nose bleeding, posed in the crowd to end the show. A fan posted the image to Twitter, causing Lynch’s husband Seth Rollins to describe Lynch as “a ..

Interesting Name And Scenario Floated To Take Down Roman Reigns

That would be a different way to go. Roman Reigns has dominated WWE for over two years as part of one of the longest World Title reigns in company history. Reigns has dispatched one challenger after another and there is nothing to suggest that he is going to be slowing down anytime soon. Now a wrestling legend has an idea for a pretty unique challenger who could give Reigns trouble. During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, former WWE and ECW star Tommy Dreamer spoke about Gunther defeating Rey Mysterio to retain the Intercontinental Title last week on SmackDown. Dreamer went on to suggest that Gunther be the man to dethrone Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title at WrestleMania. There is no word on if WWE is considering going in this direction. Opinion: While I don’t know about Gunther being the one to take the title from Reigns, a Gunther vs. Reigns match would certainly be worth looking at. Reigns rarely meets someone who can match if not exceed him in size and impact a..

AEW TNT Champion Wardlow: “I Have Girls Chained Up In My Bedroom”

Well that’s….unique. Wrestlers are best known for what they do in the ring but there is a completely different side to what they do. While the in-ring work is important, the ability to talk people into watching the show might be the most important thing of all. As a result, wrestlers are going to do a lot of talking a lot of the time and now a prominent star said something rather eye catching. AEW TNT Champion Wardlow appeared on Busted Open Radio this week and discussed how wrestlers are similar to horror movie and television series characters, in that they have characters, gimmicks and a theme song. In particular, Wardlow spoke about the Joe Goldberg character from the “You” TV series, saying he did not know why you would chain people up in your basement. Wardlow then said “I have girls chained up in my bedroom, but no one in my basement”. Wardlow successfully defended the TNT Title against Matt Taven this week on AEW Rampage. Opinion: Well that’s certainly a statement that is goin..

Miz Reveals That He Is Dealing With A Variety Of Injuries

That’s quite the problem. There are all kinds of ways that a wrestler can get hurt and the question becomes what happens to them from there. Injuries can put someone on the shelf for a long time, but there are also injuries where someone is able to work through whatever is wrong with them. That is the case again with a WWE star, who is working with a bit of an injury. Monday Night Raw star the Miz appeared on Austin Ekler’s Ekler’s Edge podcast where he revealed that he is working through a busted bursa sac, though he did not specify where or when it took place. Miz also mentioned that he had messed up his shoulder a little bit. While Miz did not have his scheduled match this week on Monday Night Raw, he did say that he will be wrestling a dark match this week at SmackDown. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you hear about from wrestlers on a regular basis but it is always rather impressive to see someone work through this kind of an injury. Miz is a talented star and someone wh..

Wrestling Legend Reveals He Occasionally Needs A Wheelchair Due To Health Issues

That’s a horrible way to go. Wrestlers are quite the athletes and you see them getting in the ring week in and week out, putting all kinds of miles on their body. At some point that is going to cause some problems for everyone involved and there is not much of a way around it. That is the case for a wrestling legend, who is having some serious health issues in his retirement. During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall Of Famer Mark Henry and AEW broadcaster Mark Henry revealed that he is not able to wrestle anymore due to nerve damage in his back. As a result of the nerve damage in his sacroiliac joint, Henry has had to occasionally take a wheelchair through the airport. While Henry’s doctor has told him that the issue could be fixed through surgery, Henry should wait until he can no longer walk and use surgery as his last resort. Opinion: That is never good to hear and it is sad to think of Henry, who was known for being such a big and strong wrestler, reduced to somethi..

Call It A Win: Medical Update On Ric Flair Following His Last Match

That could have been worse. There are legends in wrestling and then there are people like Ric Flair. After a career that has spanned the better part of fifty years, Flair was finally ready to hang it up after this weekend’s appropriately titled Ric Flair’s Last Match event. Flair has been training for months, but there is only so much that can be done at 73 years old. The match has taken place, and now we know a bit about how he is doing. Flair teamed with Andrade El Idolo to defeat Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett in his final match, which saw him busted open. According to PWInsider.com, Flair was immediately checked out by two doctors backstage and was said to be “great” after the match. Flair also said that he was starving and wanted to get something to eat as he headed out on the town for the evening. Opinion: As disturbing as it is, Flair’s health was the thing people were talking about the most coming into the match so hearing that he is ok is great to see. At the same time, Flair g..
