John Cena Provides Interesting Update On His WWE Future After Summerslam

Maybe one more? There are a lot of famous names in WWE history but only a handful of them can be described as the face of the company. Over the years, there have been a handful of them at most and WWE is lucky enough to have one of them around today. That would be John Cena, who is now mainly an actor but does wrestle occasionally. Now we might be seeing more of the latter.
Cena was recently interviewed by Forbes to promote his new movie The Suicide Squad. During the interview, Cena mentioned that he would be interested in coming back to WWE after Summerslam. Cena said that he had a month off and wound up back in WWE, meaning that it was possible for him to wrestle again in the future as his schedule permits. While Cena is scheduled to head to Europe to film a movie in August, he is also scheduled for the September 10 SmackDown in Madison Square Garden in New York City. Cena will challenge Roman Reigns for the Universal Title at Summerslam on August 21.

REVIEW: AEW All Out 2020: This Is A Miss?

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
All Out 2020
Date: September 5, 2020
Location: Daily’s Place, Jacksonville, Florida
Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross, Excalibur
They’re back on pay per view and for once that’s a rather nice thing to see. AEW has a great history with the big shows and hopefully we continue the streak here. The main events are Chris Jericho vs. Orange Cassidy where you can win by throwing the other one in a vat of mimosa and Jon Moxley defending the World Title against MJF. Let’s get to it.
Buy In: Joey Janela vs. Serpentico..

KB’s Review: It’s All About The Presentation

I think I have officially covered every bad story going in wrestling at the moment, plus the few good ones. I’ve complained about Charlotte being Charlotte, I’ve praised Roman Reigns, I’ve talked about how bad Monday Night Raw is and I’ve praised Cameron Grimes. I would talk about Nick Gage, but this is a wrestling column so we’ll stick to the topic. Since there is a grand total of nothing else interesting enough to talk about for a few pages going right now, it’s time for a history lesson.
I love the Rise and Fall of ECW. While I wasn’t an ECW fan, their story was one of the most amazing in all of wrestling history, as they managed to take almost nothing and turned it into one of the most influential promotions in history. On the DVD, Paul Heyman said something that has always stuck with me in regards to wrestling (and just about everything else):
“It’s all about the presentation.”
You can have the worst ideas, storylines, angles, characters or anything else, but if you present the..

Allegiant Stadium Announces Change Of Rules For Summerslam

This could shake things up a bit. The biggest story going at the moment is of course the Coronavirus pandemic, which is still changing various aspects of everyone’s day to day lives. That is the case with the wrestling industry as well and it seems likely to be the case for a long time to come. It seems that we are going to see a big adjustment to one of the biggest shows of the year.
The official website of Allegiant Stadium, the home of Summerslam 2021, has issued a statement saying that everyone attending any upcoming events, including Summerslam, must wear a mask. There is currently no vaccination requirement for the show, though that may change in the future. This comes as WWE is rumored to be worried about Summerslam possibly being canceled due to a potential ban on mass gatherings. Summerslam is scheduled to take place on August 21.
WWE knows a thing or two about masks. Check out some looks at various masks over the years:

Former WWE Star Likely Signing With AEW Soon

She’s worth it. AEW has done a lot of good things in its still relatively short existence and that has made for some interesting moments. In addition to the company developing its main division, its women’s division has come a very long way as well. The company always needs some fresh talent to restock the shelves though and now they might have another name coming in.
According to Fightful Select, Ruby Soho, formerly known as Ruby Riott in WWE, is expected to be signed to AEW as soon as her no compete clause expires. Her clause expires just before All Out on September 5, meaning she could appear at the show. Soho has not appeared for any kind of event since her release on June 2. There is no word on what she would be doing in AEW.
Soho has the talent. Check out her time in WWE:

RUMOR: WWE Worried Summerslam Will Be Canceled, Touring In Jeopardy

So soon? Last month, WWE returned to the road with fans in attendance for the first time in over fifteen months. That is the kind of change that the company has been waiting on for a very long time now and it is something that could shake up the way everything works. It was a huge moment, but it seems that it might have been the first of very few similar moments.
According to Bodyslam.net, WWE is worried that Summerslam will not be able to be held in Allegiant Stadium as expected, along with the rest of their events being moved back into the Thunderdome. This comes as the Delta variant of the Coronavirus spreads and the number of fully vaccinated Americans remains low. While a lockdown is no longer expected, WWE is expecting a ban on mass gatherings within the next few weeks. It is not clear where the new Thunderdome would be located.
You remember the Thunderdome right? Check out what WWE might need again:

More On Adam Cole’s WWE Contract Situation, What Hasn’t Happened

Someone might want to get on that. NXT is a pretty unique place in the wrestling world as it serves not only as its own wrestling show but also as the official developmental promotion for WWE. That can make things all the more difficult for them, as NXT wrestlers are not meant to stick around for very long. One name who has been around for a long time might not be around much longer though.
Earlier this week, a story emerged that NXT’s Adam Cole’s WWE contract expired later this month. According to Fightful Select, WWE has yet to offer Cole a new long term contract, but it is something they plan on doing. There is no word on what Cole plans to do, though he is said to have a great relationship with the people running NXT. Cole’s contract originally expired in July after the Great American Bash but he agreed to an extension through Summerslam weekend.
After debuting with NXT in August 2017 at Takeover: Brooklyn III, Cole would soon join forces with Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Reilly and B..

WATCH: Big Angle Takes Place To End This Week’s NXT

There is your development. If you watch enough wrestling, you are going to see some angles and plots come up over and over again. One of the most common is some sort of romance, which is something anyone can understand in a hurry. It is still done to this day and sometimes you get a big step forward. That was the case this week as a big angle reached a climax.
This week’s NXT was headlined by a Love Her Or Leave Her match between Dexter Lumis and Johnny Gargano. If Lumis won, Gargano and the Way would leave Lumis and Indi Hartwell alone. If Gargano won, Lumis and Hartwell had to stay apart. Gargano did win, but after the match was over, Hartwell ran back to the ring and kissed Lumis for the first time. There is no word on if this means Hartwell is no longer part of the Way.
What a sweet moment. Check out what happened and how we got here:

New Title Match Confirmed During This Week’s NXT

Looks like he’s next. There are a lot of titles in WWE and that is the case for a very good reason. A title match is one of the easiest things you will see in wrestling because anyone can understand the concept. The referee holding up a title belt before the match tells the fans what they need to know: this is the prize that these people are fighting for. Now we know who will be doing that next.
This week on NXT, the commentary team explained that Roderick Strong wanted to challenge NXT Cruiserweight Champion Kushida to a title match. Later in the show, Kushida accepted the challenge, though a date for the match was not announced. Strong defeated Bobby Fish during the show while Kushida only appeared in a video later. Kushida and Strong have met in tag team matches and at live events but never in a televised singles match.
It was a busy night. Check out how we got here:

WATCH: AEW Cut This Segment Due To Fan Backlash (Possibly NSFW)

That would be crossing a line. Wrestling is a lot of things, but ultimately it is a medium for the masses. Fans are going to want to see what is going on with the wrestlers and their feuds, but sometimes you see or hear something that is going to rub people the wrong way. That was the case this week and now one of the bigger wrestling promotions had to make a change.
This week on AEW Dark, which took place in Charlotte, North Carolina, Max Caster performed a rap on the way to the ring. The rap referenced United States Olympic gymnast Simone Biles’ mental health issues as well as the Duke University lacrosse team rape allegations. The rap was heavily criticized on social media and has since been edited off of the YouTube video of the show. There is no word on if Caster will be punished in any way.
This wasn’t going to go well. Check out the rap, plus some less controversial stuff from AEW:

Here’s The Exact Reason Why Ric Flair Left WWE

That’s a specific reason. There have been a lot of WWE roster moves in recent months and that was certainly the case this week as well. One of the more surprising moves was Ric Flair requesting and being granted his release from the company. It was not something that made a lot of sense but now we have some more details which might explain where things went wrong.
According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Flair sent Vince McMahon a text message complaining about how his daughter, Charlotte, was being booked on WWE TV. According to Wrestling Observer Live, Flair, in essence, threatened to quit if the issues were not resolved. As a result, McMahon made the decision to release Flair. There is no word on what specific issue Flair wanted resolved. Flair has since spoken about departing the company, saying that WWE is the reason he is in the good state he is in now and that he has nothing but respect for them. There is no word on if Flair has a no compete clause in his contract.

VIDEO: Ryback Is Trying To Go To Summerslam

That’s a different gig. A lot of wrestlers come and go from WWE every year and a lot of them leave without much of an impact. You might remember a match or two here or there, but for the most part, they are just people who used to work there and don’t anymore. Very few do anything memorable, but now one of them with a bit of a reputation is trying to get back in, albeit in a different way.
WWE is currently running a contest where a fan will be able to introduce a match at Summerslam. Former WWE star Ryback has posted a video to YouTube, officially entering the contest. In the video, Ryback introduces Roman Reigns vs. John Cena, the likely main event for the show, with various jokes and shots taken at both wrestlers and Reigns’ manager Paul Heyman.
Ryback wrestled for WWE from 2005-2016, winning the Intercontinental Title and a variety of Slammy Awards. Since departing the company, Ryback has hosted a podcast called Conversations With The Big Guy where he has been highlight critical o..
