REVIEW: AEW Revolution 2021: Uh, Boom?

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?

There is something rather pleasing about having another AEW pay per view. The company has such a great track record with these things and it should be awesome to see what they can do again. The main event is an exploding barbed wire deathmatch because….I have no idea why but it is certainly going to get them some attention. Let’s get to it.

Good News On Madcap Moss’ Injury Status After Scary Elimination Chamber Landing

That’s great to hear. Wrestling is a rather dangerous sport as you never know when you are going to see someone get injured. Any given match has wrestlers doing some rather intricate moves, many of which can go the wrong way through a simple mistake. That can lead to some scary moments and that was the case last week. Now we have a good update on the situation.
According to Fightful Select and PWInsider.com, Madcap Moss is cleared to return to the ring without missing any time. Moss landed on his head during a match with Drew McIntyre at Elimination Chamber when McIntyre gave him a reverse Alabama Slam. He has since underwent several tests and all of them came back clean, which has WWE surprised that Moss was ok after the landing. There was no heat on McIntyre about the landing and Moss promised to never do the move again.
Opinion: Above all else, it is great to hear that Moss is ok, as that was a terrifying landing. I’m not sure how Moss wound up being ok after the whole thing, but ..

That’s A New One: Fight Breaks Out Between WrestleMania Sponsors

They’re at it too. We are just over five weeks away from WrestleMania 37 and that means it is the busiest season of WWE’s year. The company is going to be pushing the event in every way that they can because it is going to bring them a fortune. Some of those things are going to be a bit more standard that others but this time there is something related to WrestleMania that we haven’t seen before.
WWE has announced that both Snickers and WWE2K22 will be sponsoring this year’s WrestleMania 38. This will mark the first time that WrestleMania has had two major Presenting Partners. As a result, the two sponsors’ Twitter accounts have entered into a feud, with both companies using various “nut” related puns as a play on the peanuts in Snickers bars. Here are some of what has been said.
WAIT – we have to share a ring with these guys??

VIDEO: AEW Star Debuts Awesome New Music Video

It’s something else he can do. Wrestlers are very talented people as they have to find a way to balance a variety of things in any given match. Not only are they wrestling, but they are telling stories, protecting each other and making the fans buy what is being done. That is something difficult to do, but it is all the more impressive when they pull it off. Wrestlers have a lot of skills, and now another is showing what he can do outside of the ring.
AEW’s Max Caster has released a music video for his new song Mixed Messages. The song is part of the Who We Are Volume 1 commemorative AEW album, with proceeds from the album going to the Bootsy Collins Foundation. Caster has released several music videos during his AEW career, with several of them being diss tracks aimed at wrestlers Caster and the Acclaimed are feuding with at the moment.
He’s pretty awesome at this. Check out the new video:

VIDEO: Jeff Hardy Says He Is Going To AEW

I wonder if he has a bag packed. The rose of AEW has offered wrestlers another mainstream home outside of WWE. As a result, it can be fascinating to see who might be heading to AEW when they are given the chance. You will often hear rumors about one wrestler making the jump but now one of them is flat out saying that he is on his way to the company.
A video has made its way online featuring Jeff hardy saying that he is going to AEW. The interview with Jared Myers took place backstage at one of Hardy’s recent concerts and features Hardy saying “I’m going to AEW. I’m so excited.” While not confirmed, Hardy has been rumored to be going to AEW since he left WWE back in December. His no compete clause continues until March 9, meaning he will not be seen for a few weeks.
It’s a bit hard to hear but that’s what he said. Check out Hardy’s interview, with the AEW announcement coming at 7:17:

KB’s Review: A Tale Of Two Titles

We are less than six weeks away from WrestleMania 38 and that means it is time to really start hammering home the show’s card. Now we already have the four men’s and women’s title matches set (because there are four of those) but there are more than a few other matches that have to be built up. Since we are probably looking at sixteen matches over two days, that means we are likely going to need a dozen more to fill out the card. I’m not sure what we are going to see, but there is someone who has gotten my attention over the last few weeks in a good way.
Over the last two weeks, United States Champion Damian Priest has defeated both AJ Styles and Shelton Benjamin. Now that might not sound like much (especially in Styles’ case when he was evening the score after Styles beat him the previous week), but it suggests that WWE is actually building Priest up for once. That is something the company has needed to do after Priest took a few losses in the previous weeks, so maybe things are star..

Three More Matches Set For AEW Revolution

It’s growing up. We are less than two weeks away from AEW Revolution and now it is time to start building up the card. The good thing is that AEW has a lot of pieces already set up and are just waiting to be made official. Sometimes those things can be done all at once and that seems to be the case this week as several matches were all put together on the same show.
Three new matches were announced for AEW Revolution during this week’s edition of Dynamite. First up, Eddie Kingston challenged Chris Jericho to a grudge match, with Jericho accepting during a face to face meeting. Second, the AHFO, comprised of Andrade El Idolo, Matt Hardy and Isiah Kassidy have challenged Sting/Darby Allin/Sammy Guevara to a tornado tag match, which was confirmed later. Finally, after Bryan Danielson defeated Daniel Garcia in the main event, Jon Moxley came to the ring. Danielson agreed to face Moxley, who had challenged him to a match at Revolution.
It's official: @MadKing1981 will face @IAmJerich..

Another Former WWE Star Makes AEW Debut

He’s new. There have been a lot of movements around the wrestling world, with several prominent wrestlers jumping from one promotion to another. That can make for some very interesting moments as you don’t know when someone is going to show up. It is especially fun when you might get to see someone reach a new level of potential, which might be the case again this week.
This week on AEW Dynamite, Buddy Matthews made his debut in an attack on Pac and Penta Obscura. Matthews helped the Kings of the Black throne attack Pac and Obscura, seemingly joining the House of Black in the process. Matthews is formerly known as Buddy Murphy in WWE, where he is a former Cruiserweight Champion. Black and Murphy feuded during their time together in WWE, which was referenced last week during a House of Black vignette. The vignette featured a knock on Black’s door, which is how Matthews started his feud with Black in WWE.
Opinion: I don’t think this is much of a surprise, especially after the knocking ..

AEW Dynamite Results – February 23, 2022

Dynamite
Date: February 23, 2022
Location: Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport, Connecticut
Commentators: Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, Excalibur
We are two and a half weeks away from Revolution and that means it is time to start hammering down the card. That could go in a few different ways, which makes this show all the more interesting. One of the spots in the Tag Team Title match will be determined tonight in a tag team battle royal, as opposed to next week when one of the spots in the Tag Team Title match will be determined by a tag team battle royal. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Tag Team Battle Royal Dark Order, Young Bucks, Butcher and the Blade, Best Friends, Private Party, Gunn Club, Santana/Ortiz, FTR, 2.0, ReDDragon
There are ten teams in all and both members have to be eliminated. It’s a huge brawl to start, with no entrances, and people fighting in and out of the ring. Blade knocks Alex Reynolds of the Dark Order out but spends too much time posing, allowing John Silver t..

Since WWE Said No: AEW Bringing In Another Top Free Agent Star

That doesn’t sound like a swerve. The wrestling landscape has changed in all kinds of ways in recent years and there is nothing to suggest that it is going to change anytime soon. The biggest changes have come due to the massive releases from the WWE roster, as around two hundred wrestlers have been let go in the last two years. A lot of those wrestlers have landed elsewhere and now another is off the free agent market.
According to Fightful Select, Shane “Swerve” Strickland will be joining AEW. This comes after Strickland, also known as Isaiah Scott, was released from WWE in November 2021. There is no word on when he will be making his AEW debut. Since leaving WWE, Strickland has wrestled a pair of matches with one match each for Progress Wrestling and New Japan Strong.
Opinion: This is a signing that was more a matter of time than a question of where Strickland was going to sign. I still have no idea what WWE was thinking when they let Strickland (and the rest of Hit Row) go but th..

WWE Legend Releasing His Own Comic Book

It’s a unique honor. Wrestlers exist in a weird place when it comes to celebrity status. They are on television almost every week, but even then they are only known as wrestlers. That is not something that lends itself to mainstream exposure, but every now and then you see someone make it over the hill and into the next stage. Sometimes that can come with some unique opportunities and that seems to be the case again.
WWE Hall of Famer Rikishi has announced that he will be starring in his own comic book. The book, titles Kishi and the Island of Dreams, will be released at some point in summer 2022. Rikishi will have a say in the creative direction of the story though he will not be writing it. There is no word on how many issues are planned for the book, which will be produced by AnimeHipHop.

Important Update On AJ Styles’ WWE Future

They’ll keep him. WWE has been changing up their roster in a lot of ways in recent months and there have been a lot more wrestlers leaving than showing up. These changes have shaken up the wrestling landscape in a huge way as it has become a question of who WWE will be keeping around. Now they have agreed to terms with a current legend on a brand new and very lucrative contract.
According to Fightful Select, AJ Styles has agreed to a new deal with WWE. There is no word on how long Styles’ new deal will be, though it is said to be worth over $3 million a year. Styles will also have bus travel paid for by the company between events. Styles’ former deal was scheduled to expire at some point in the spring or summer, which would have left him as a free agent.
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that makes sense for WWE as they know who they need to keep around. Styles is someone who is nearing the end of his career and it would make sense to keep him around WWE for as long as they can. At ..
