What could have been. AEW has brought in several wrestlers throughout its brief history, with several of them coming from different backgrounds. Some of them have not even come from wrestling, which makes can make for some interesting situations. That was the case earlier this month when a mixed martial artist was brought into the fold, but she could have had a very different story.
Earlier this month, Paige VanZant officially signed with AEW, following multiple appearances with the company. VanZant appeared on Throwing Down With Renee and Meisha and explained that she had a meeting at WWE headquarters last year about the possibility of signing with them instead. However, WWE had a “different plan” for her, though she did not explain what it was. VanZant said that she was happy that AEW would let her continue with MMA and are knuckle boxing while also wrestling for them.

Time for the NXT shakeup. WWE does a lot of things right but there are some areas where they might need to improve a bit. One of these things is changing up matches and plans that have already been established and even advertised. That seems to be the case again, as a title match set for an upcoming show has expanded in a big way that hasn’t been done before.
This week’s NXT featured the finals of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Kay Lee Ray and Io Shirai won the tournament, earning a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Titles. However, Ray and Shirai announced that they would instead be adding themselves to the Women’s Title match at Stand & Deliver, where Mandy Rose is scheduled to defend against Cora Jade. This is the first time that the winners of the Dusty Classic will be challenging for a singles title.

That’s quite a long time. The Coronavirus pandemic changed the way a lot of things worked in the world, including in the wrestling industry. While WWE was shaken up, they were able to continue moving forward thanks to their access to the Performance Center, where Monday Night Raw and SmackDown took place for several months. However, it turns out that things were a lot more difficult than they seemed.
Former WWE referee discussed WWE’s time in the Performance Center during his Monday Mailbag Forum this week, where he revealed that some Performance Center matches took hours to shoot. The process involved starting a match, cutting the camera, filming the next piece of the match, and then splicing the material together. WWE moved out of the Performance Center in August 2020 and took up residence in the Thunderdome in Tampa, Florida. They returned to normal touring last July.

Stand & Deliver is coming up soon and now we have the main event set, as Bron Breakker will get his rematch against Dolph Ziggler for the NXT Title. Other than that, we have some qualifying matches for the North American Title ladder match and the finals of the Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. Let’s get to it.

North American Title Ladder Match Qualifying Match: Roderick Strong vs. Solo Sikoa Malcolm Bivens is at ringside. Strong grabs a choke to start as Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams join commentary. Sikoa fights out and the strike off is on, with Strong getting knocked down against the ropes. Back up and Strong knocks him down again to take over, setting up the reverse chinlock. Add it to the card. WrestleMania is the biggest wrestling event in the world and that means there is a lot of time to fill on the night. The fact that this year’s edition is going to be two nights makes it even more complicated, with WWE’s limited roster making it all the more difficult. They are going to have to think outside of the box though, and now they have something to cover part of the time.
As announced by WWE, DJ Valentino Khan will be performing at both nights of WrestleMania 38, where he will “welcome fans with the hottest hits in music as they arrive at AT&T Stadium each night in Dallas”. There is nothing to suggest that Khan will be performing on the WrestleMania broadcasts. Khan also performed last year at Summerslam in Las Vegas and is the latest in a long line of WrestleMania musical guests.

That’s a different way to go. We are less than two weeks away from WrestleMania 38 and as usual, WWE will be taking over the show’s home city. It makes things feel that much bigger and it can be interesting to see what they are doing on any given year. That is the case again, though this time WWE is going to be trying something different for WrestleMania in Dallas/Fort Worth.
WWE has announced that it is partnering with Nextbite to bring a WrestleMania themed virtual restaurant to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The restaurant, called WWE Smackadillas, will be available via delivery services such as DoorDash, UberEats and GrubHub, and will feature a series of quesadillas with wrestling themed names, such as Powerbomb Pizza. The menu will be available through April 11.

He heard you. We are less than two weeks away from WrestleMania 38 and that means that anyone not on the card yet does not have much time left to make it. That is one of the biggest storylines going on Monday Night Raw today as Seth Rollins currently does not have a path to WrestleMania. There have been rumors of what to expect for him at the show, and now Rollins has acknowledged them.
This week’s edition of Monday Night Raw featured a show long story of Rollins trying to find a way onto the WrestleMania card. During his initial appearance, the fans chanted for Cody Rhodes, with Rollins acknowledging the chants. Rollins said that rumors are fun, but they do not make moments, which is what he is looking for at WrestleMania. Rollins did not reference Rhodes by name, but did address the crowd as they cheered for Rhodes. WWE has yet to announce any new deal with Rhodes, though one has reportedly been reached.

Join the team. There are a lot of talented wrestlers in the world today and thanks to the rise of streaming, fans are able to see more of them than ever before. Now you can see just about any wrestling show in the world at any time, which has opened all kinds of new doors for fans. A big time wrestling promotion has noticed that, and now they plan to bring in some more stars to their own shows.
Over the weekend, AEW announced that they had entered into a working relationship with DDT-Pro Wrestling, which will see the stars of the Japanese promotion come to AEW. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this deal also includes stars from the women’s promotion Tokyo Joshi Pro. AEW’s Kenny Omega was said to have played a role in setting up the deals as he has a relationship with DDT-Pro Wrestling. There is no word on when the wrestlers could begin appearing in AEW.

Guess who’s back? Wrestlers are very talented people as they have to try to do a lot of things at the same time. That can include having a match, but they also must convince you that what you are seeing is real. It becomes harder and harder to do that with each passing year, but sometimes a wrestler gets to show you something else. That might be the case again soon on a bigger scale.
According to Deadline.com, former AEW star Brandi Rhodes has reached a deal with DIGA Studios to help bring her YouTube series A Shot Of Brandi to television. The show features Rhodes in her kitchen talking to celebrities or wrestlers while cooking something. DIGA is planning on shopping the series around to various television networks in a thirty minute format, though there is no word on any network picking up the series so far. Rhodes began the series on her own YouTube channel in 2018.

Add it to the list. There are some wrestlers who have been in WWE for so long that they are running out of things to accomplish. It can even become difficult to figure out new things for them to add to their resumes because they have done so much already. That is the case for a few current WWE stars, but now one of the biggest legends in company history is doing something no one has ever done before.
Randy Orton is scheduled to defend the Raw Tag Team Titles with Riddle against the Street Profits and Alpha Academy in a triple threat match at WrestleMania 38. This will mark the first time that Orton has entered WrestleMania as a Tag Team Champion, which puts him in a class by himself. According to Fact5Wrestling, Orton will be the first wrestler in WWE history to enter WrestleMania as a WWE Champion, a World Heavyweight Champion, an Intercontinental Champion, a United States Champion and a Tag Team Champion. Enjoy him while you can. Wrestlers have been leaving WWE in droves in recent years, with several of them being due to mass releases the company has undergone. The majority of these releases came from NXT, which has been almost completely overhauled since last fall. There is a wing that has remained mostly untouched, though one of its names may be on the way out as well.
According to Fightful Select, WWE’s contract negotiations with Flash Morgan Webster have stalled and the NXT UK star’s contract has expired. However, he is still with the company on a short term extension. There is no word on if the two sides are expected to come to an agreement or not. Webster has not wrestled since October due to a shoulder injury and he is not expected back in the ring until June.
