Old vs. New: Huge Main Event Set For AEW Double Or Nothing

There is your big one. We are on the way to Double Or Nothing and now it means AEW needs to start getting the card ready. You can probably figure out some of the card from here, but at some point the matches need to be made official. This week, the biggest match on the card was covered, which was a bit trickier as one of the people involved was not there.
This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite featured the announcement that CM Punk will be challenging Hangman Page for the AEW World Title at Double Or Nothing on Saturday, May 29. The match will be the first ever between the two and Punk’s first ever shot at the title. Page was not present at the show as he was diagnosed with the Coronavirus earlier this week. There is nothing to suggest that he will not be back in time for the title match.
Opinion: This match was teased last week and it makes sense to have the two of them go at it for the title at one of the biggest AEW shows of the year. Punk is someone who has to go after the title at ..

AEW Teases Debut Of Another Former WWE Star

Welcome aboard? AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works in a lot of way and that is a good thing. One of the biggest changes has been the introduction of a new place for wrestlers to perform on a big stage, as WWE has dominated the landscape for so long. Now there is a new promotion to work in, and a former WWE star seems ready to come in to AEW.
This week on AEW Dynamite, Maxwell Jacob Friedman made a phone call to someone he referred to as “big man”, offering him month to fight Wardlow. Friedman did not mention anyone by name but said that this man was taller than Wardlow before saying “and you can’t teach that”. That is the catchphrase used to describe W. Morrissey, formerly known as Big Cass in WWE, who is currently in Impact Wrestling. Morrissey has never appeared in AEW and assuming he does come in, there is no word on how long he will be appearing for with the company.
Opinion: The lack of a name gives me some caution here, as it would not surprise me to see this be ..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Considering Expanding Stadium Shows In 2022

Keep going big. While it might not be as popular as it once was, WWE is still the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world. The company can do things that no other promotion is able to do, including reaching quite a few fans at the same time. It seems that they want to try to do that again, though at a much faster pace than at any point before.
According to Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Wrestling Podcast, WWE is hoping to make stadium shows the norm for major events starting in 2023. There are seven such events scheduled in 2022 (with WrestleMania 38 running over two nights), including Saudi Arabia shows. The idea comes from WWE President Nick Khan, who believes that the shows do not need to sell out and 25,000-30,000 fans in attendance will raise revenue and excitement.
A source over at WWE mentioned that WWE intends to run more stadium shows moving forward in 2023.
Just for reference 2022 has 8 stadium events.
The goal is to make this the new norm. This is a Nic..

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – April 27, 2022

Dynamite
Date: April 27, 2022
Location: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Excalibur, Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone
We’re back with another focus on the Owen Hart Foundation tournament as Dax Harwood faces Cash Wheeler. In addition to that, we won’t be see Hangman Page this week as he has come down with the Coronavirus, meaning that we don’t quite get any advancement in his feud with CM Punk. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Owen Hart Foundation Qualifying Match: Dax Harwood vs. Cash Wheeler CM Punk is on commentary and the guys come out together. They go to the mat to start as Punk talks about how he doesn’t necessarily like these guys but he does respect him. A series of headlocks takeovers are countered with a series of nip ups and we get a standoff with some applause. An armdrag into an armbar has Wheeler in control as commentary cracks some jokes about the wrestlers’ names.
Harwood pokes him in the eye though and Wheeler doesn’t seem happy. Wheeler takes i..

Until Next Time: Two Stars Stepping Away From Wrestling

It might be a bit. Wrestlers are people who tend to move around a lot, as you do not often see someone who stays in one place permanently. There is always another place to wrestle in front of fresh fans with fresh eyes. It means wrestlers will leave one promotion for another every now and then, but this time we are seeing some people leave, presumably for no particular place.
Impact Wrestling’s The IInspiration, comprised of Jesse McKay and Cassie Lee, have announced that they will be stepping away from wrestling at the moment. The team gave no reason for their departure. The statement also thanked Scott D’Amore and Impact Wrestling for the memories. There is no word on where the two will wrestle next, or if they ever will.

Opinion: I’m not sure what is going on here but it seems like one or both members of the team need some time away from the ring for whatever reason. Maybe it ..

Top AEW Star Announces Coronavirus Diagnosis, Missing This Week’s Dynamite

That might slow him down. The Coronavirus changed the way the world worked, including the wrestling industry. While most of the things are now back to the way things were before, there is always the chance that something can go wrong and put someone on the shelf for a little while. That seems to be the case again and now it is going to keep a top name on the shelf.
AEW World Title Hangman Page has revealed that he will be missing this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite due to being diagnosed with the Coronavirus. There is no word on when Page will be back. Last week saw Page seem to enter into a new feud with CM Punk, as the two stared at each other after Punk’s match. No match has been officially announced between the two.
dynomite is tonight at 8pm on tbs but i will not be on there because my face is full of covid snot, sorry. please enjoy regardless.

Opinion: As always, what matters here is Page’s health as you don’t know how long he is g..

NXT LVL Up Results – April 22, 2022

NXT LVL Up
Date: April 22, 2022
Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida
Commentators: Sudu Shah, Matt Camp
I’m at the point where I don’t know what to expect from this show, as you might get someone making a one off appearance before debuting on the main NXT show or a name with nothing else going on. The show has worked before so maybe they can do it again here. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Malik Blade/Edris Enofe vs. Quincy Elliott/Damaris Griffin This is Griffin’s in-ring debut. Blade staggers the much bigger Elliott with a dropkick but Elliott hits a quick splash on the back to take over. Griffin comes in to work on Enofe’s arm but that’s reversed into another wristlock, allowing Blade to come in with the ax handle. A double belly to back suplex drops Griffin again but he’s right back with a spinebuster.
Elliott comes back in to knock Enofe down, allowing Griffin to whip him into the corner over and over. Elliott’s Pounce sends Enofe flying and the nerve hold ..

There Might Be Some New Free Agent Wrestlers On The Market Soon

That could make things interesting. One of the most interesting things to see in wrestling is a free agent hitting the market. There is so much talent out there and it can be fascinating to see where someone might wind up going. It is something that you get to see every now and then, but now we might be seeing a good number of wrestlers hitting the markets unless something changes.
Earlier this year, several former Ring Of Honor wrestlers debuted in Impact Wrestling under the name Honor No More and have stayed with the company since. According to Fightful Select, as of April 1, multiple members of the stable have not been signed to Impact Wrestling. There is no word on which members have been signed or not. The team includes Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis, Matt Taven, Vincent, Kenny King and PCO. Eddie Edwards is part of the team but was signed to Impact Wrestling before the rest of the group debuted.
Opinion: I’m not sure who is going to wind up sticking with Impact Wrestling and who ..

Former NXT Star Officially Moving Up To The Main Roster, Waiting To Debut

Come on up. WWE has a unique situation with NXT, as it allows the company to have its own in-house developmental territory. That means they can develop and then bring up stars to the main roster without having to sign new wrestlers. It can be interesting to see someone come up and now we might be seeing someone do just that, albeit in a different role.
According to Fightful Select, LA Knight is officially done with NXT and is now part of the main roster. This comes after Knight has been working as a manager in dark segments before SmackDown and has since signed Mansoor and Mace to his stable. There is no word on when the team will make its television debut. Knight last wrestled in NXT at Stand & Deliver on April 1 in a loss to Gunther.
Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise but it is nice to see that Knight’s tryout seemed to go well. Knight is someone who could be a big star on the main roster and the good thing is that he could be switched into a wrestling role if necessary. I’m ..

Former Champions Make Surprise NXT Return, Set Up Big Match

Welcome back? With so many wrestlers in WWE at the moment, it can be hard to find something for everyone to do. It doesn’t help when WWE seems to give up on someone and leaves them with little to do. One thing that helps a bit is NXT, where some wrestlers are being sent to give them some ring time. That seems to be the case again, with some wrestlers who have been a success there before.
The Viking Raiders returned to NXT this week and defeated Malik Blade and Edris Enofe. Roderick Strong brought the team in as a challenge to the Creed Brothers, with their match scheduled for next week. The Viking Raiders are currently on Monday Night Raw and are former NXT Tag Team Champions, having won the titles in January 2019. They are the only team to voluntarily vacate their titles, having vacated them on their way to the main roster.
Opinion: As has been the case with other main roster stars coming down to NXT in recent weeks, I’m not sure how well this is going to go but at least the team is..

Ric Flair Was So Close To Death That WWE Made Preparations

Thankfully it wasn’t necessary. With so many wrestlers in the history of the industry, it is very rare for someone to become a top level legend. You see them occasionally though and when they reach that level, there is almost nothing that can knock them off. One of the biggest stars of all time was having some very serious health issues, to the point where WWE even made some drastic preparations.
Back in 2017, Ric Flair dealt with medical issues that left him in a coma for thirty one days following complications with his kidneys due to colon surgery. Flair was a guest on the Pivot Podcast and revealed that WWE had prepared a tribute video for him, fearing that he would not survive the ordeal. Flair said that he had a 5% chance of surviving the ordeal but he has since gotten better and is hoping to have fun every day for the rest of his life.
This was an intense interview. Check out the whole thing:

Fill Those Brackets: WWE Announces First Time Ever Tournament

They’re an easy idea. Tournaments are one of the easiest things that a wrestling promotion can put together. It’s such a simple concept, as a bunch of wrestlers are put into a bracket of some kind and the last wrestler or team standing wins a prize. There might be a theme to the whole thing and that seems to be the case again as NXT is bringing back one of their concepts, but with a twist.
This week, NXT announced the first ever Women’s Breakout Tournament, which will focus on women who have either not yet debuted or have not wrestled many matches. While no prize was announced, winners of the previous men’s editions of the tournament have earned a title shot. Four of the eight entrants have been announced, including:
Arianna Grace
Sloane Jacobs
Kiana James
Lash Legend
The tournament begins on May 10.
Opinion: This is something that could work at the moment, as there are several talented women who could be going somewhere if they are allowed to stand out. That is the point of a tour..
