WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE High On Superstar, Future Plans Set

He’ll be around. With so much talent on the WWE roster, it can be difficult to find something for everyone to do. There are certain people who are going to be able get on television almost every week, but at some point there is going to be a need for some fresh blood. That can do a lot of good for the roster, and now it seems to be good for one of its prominent stars.
According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, the new WWE regime is high on Finn Balor and has significant plans for him going forward. It is not clear what those plans are, but Balor is expected to be featured in the foreseeable future. Balor is currently part of the Judgment Day stable and is set to face Edge in an I Quit match at Extreme Rules on October 8.
I’m told that significant plans are lined up for Finn Balor in the future. I don’t know exactly for what those plans are, but he is a strong favorite of the new leadership group. Expect Finn to play a big role in the foreseeable future of WWE.

Positive Injury Update On NXT Star, Back Sooner Than Expected

It could be a worse situation. Injuries are one of the worst things that you can see in wrestling as you never know how long someone is going to be out of action. Someone can get hurt in the middle of a match and go on the shelf for a very long time as a result. One of the hardest parts of an injury is wondering just how bad things are, and now we know a bit more about what has happened.
This week on NXT, Tony D’Angelo was injured during a match, resulting in the referee calling a stoppage and awarding the match to Wes Lee. Commentary suggested that D’Angelo had suffered a knee injury but no more details were given. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, D’Angelo will NOT need surgery and while he is hurt, he will be back “sooner than you would think”.
Opinion: That is rather good to hear as you would never want to see someone go on the shelf for any length of time, let alone due to requiring surgery. D’Angelo is a promising prospect and I’m interested in seeing where he goes from he..

WWE Adds Another Violent Match To Extreme Rules

It’s kind of the point of the show. With so many WWE events out there, each one needs something to make them stand out more than the others. That is why WWE has added a gimmick to most of its major shows and next month’s will be no exception. We are coming up on another of WWE’s themed shows and now they have added another logical match to the card.
WWE has announced that Imperium will face the Brawling Brutes in a Good Old Fashioned Donnybrook match at Extreme Rules. The match will be under anything goes rules with all six fighting at the same time. The teams have been feuding for several weeks, including Gunther vs. Sheamus facing off at Clash At The Castle for the Intercontinental Title. Extreme Rules takes place on October 8.
Opinion: This is a match that makes all the sense in the world for Extreme Rules as it is a feud that leads into more physicality and violence. That is the point of a show like Extreme Rules and we should be in for a heck of a fight. If nothing else, it prev..

Miro Explains Why He Has Been Gone From AEW (In His Own Special Way)

That’s a good reason. There are a lot of talented stars on the AEW roster, which can create the problem of finding something for everyone to do. While there are all kinds of stars in the company, not everyone gets to appear very often. It can be notable when someone is gone so often and now one AEW star is addressing why he has not been around very often as of late.
A fan on Twitter recently pointed out that Miro has not wrestled on AEW Dynamite in over three months. Miro responded to the fan, saying that he has been gone because “nobody has the balls”. This comes after Miro has not wrestled since All Out on September 4. This was his first match since June 26 and one of only four matches that he has wrestled this year. Miro was out of action due to an injury most of the first half of the year.

Opinion: Miro continues to be one of those “where is he” guys in AEW and there are more than one of them. Th..

Hurricane Ian Causes Several Changes To AEW Dynamite And Rampage

That’s a valid reason. Wrestling shows take a lot of preparation and the higher you go in the wrestling industry, the more effort they require. That is certainly true of weekly national television shows, and sometimes there are factors that impact the show that are beyond anyone’s control. That was the case this week as several names missed a television taping due to a serious situation.
According to Fightful Select, several wrestlers missed this week’s AEW Dynamite and Rampage taping due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, which has been ravaging Florida. Two of the names who were unable to make the show were Swerve Strickland and Samoa Joe, with several others likely not being present. Earlier this week, AEW President Tony Khan excused any wrestler who lived in the hurricane’s path from being at the show.
Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you do not see happen very often and what matters most is that all of the wrestlers and their families are safe. You never want to see somethin..

Bobby Fish Shoots Down Rumors Of WWE Jump, Talks Disappointment With Story

He would know. There have been all kinds of stories surfacing over the last few weeks involving wrestlers possibly jumping from one promotion to another. This has created some issues as there are all kinds of rumors and possible stories out there, plus varying sources on every story. The best option is to hear it from the wrestlers themselves, and that is the case again.
One of the stories involving wrestlers jumping from one promotion to another involves Bobby Fish, who has just left AEW, attempting to get Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole to join him in a jump back to WWE. Fish addressed the story on the latest edition of his Undisputed podcast, saying that the story was “totally fabricated information”. Fish went on to say that he was disappointed that so many outlets, including Jim Cornette, carried the story. Since leaving AEW, Fish has debuted for Impact Wrestling.
Here are some of Fish’s comments, with transcription courtesy of 411mania.com:

Stephanie McMahon Announces Major New WWE Streaming Deal

That’s what matters most. WWE does a lot of things and has their hands in a lot of industries around the entertainment world. At the end of the day though, they are a wrestling company and what matters most is getting as many eyes as possible on the product. That makes one of their latest announcements all the better, as more people will be able to view WWE programming.
WWE co-CEO Stephanie McMahon has announced that the company has reached a new streaming deal with the Foxtel Group in Australia, resulting in BINGE being the new streaming partner for WWE in the country. According to a press release, the service will offer a 24/7 streaming channel, all major WWE television shows and other events at no extra cost.
Opinion: This is something that seems run of the mill for WWE but it also shows you just how big the company is. Getting a new deal with a company big enough to go all over Australia is a major deal and for WWE it feels like something so normal. It brings in more money to WWE..

Goldberg Offers Huge Update On His WWE Status And Future

He’s not next? There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and some of them have made quite the impact. Those are the names that you do not see very often and as a result, the biggest stars are often going to be the most remembered. Now one of those stars has revealed that he might not be wrestling again anytime soon due to a contract situation.
WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg appeared on this week’s edition of the Bump and revealed that he has no matches left on his current WWE contract. Goldberg however did say that he owed Roman Reigns a receipt for Reigns choking him out in Saudi Arabia. Goldberg’s last match took place at Elimination Chamber in February. There is no word on when or if he will return to the ring.
Opinion: While one of the common responses to something like this is a sigh of relief at no more Goldberg, there is certainly a place for Goldberg in WWE. It would be great to have him show up to run over some loudmouthed heel or as a special enforcer or surpr..

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 2008: The Shock Factor

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?
Royal Rumble 2008
Date: January 27, 2008
Location: Madison Square Garden, New York City New York
Attendance: 20,798
Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole Jonathan Coachman, Joey Styles, Tazz
I believe this is my fifth time reviewing this show but I’m always curious to see how much different it feels having recently watched the TV leading up to it. The show has been set for a long time now and that means we need to get on with the pay per view already. Of course there is the Royal Rumble, but the Raw W..

Sasha Banks Changes Twitter Handle; No Longer Includes WWE

She’s The Boss of something different. Sasha Banks caused a buzz on social media earlier today when she abruptly changed her Twitter handle. She is now using her real name, with no mention of WWE in the handle.
She went from “SashaBanksWWE” to “MercedesVarnado”. You can see the change below:
Tweets by MercedesVarnado
Banks has been away from WWE programming since her and Naomi walked out of the company on May 16 of this year. They were the Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time, but were unhappy with the direction that the company was going. On that day, they walked into WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis’ office with their suitcases in hand, placed their tag team championship belts on his desk, and walked out.
It had been previously reported that WWE was trying to mend fences with the two following the transition of power from Vince McMahon to Triple H, but nothing had been solidified.
We will continue to monitor the story and provide updates as they become available.

Dynamite Results – September 28, 2022

Dynamite
Date: September 28, 2022
Location: Liacouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Taz
We continue the road to Full Gear and that means we need to start laying the groundwork. Before we get there though, World Champion Jon Moxley has a title match coming up in about three weeks against Hangman Page. That should make for some good weeks of build so let’s get to it.
Here is the Jericho Appreciation Society (all in purple), plus Luigi Primo, who has made some NEW YORK PIZZA for….well no one here because this place is full of losers. Anna Jay says no one gets pizza and it’s all about Jericho. She threatens to choke everyone out but seems to get a bit shaken by the WE WANT PIZZA chants. Jericho gets the mic and says he is now the most watched and viewed Ring Of Honor World Champion of all time.
Tonight he is ready to take out Bandido, who no one saw as Ring Of Honor Champion because no one knows what Ring Of Honor is. Jericho even has a pres..

Shawn Michaels Reveals Changes To NXT’s Hiring Strategy

They have a type. There are all kinds of wrestlers under the WWE banner and most of them come from a few select backgrounds. You can probably figure out some of the most common, with amateur wrestling, football and mixed martial arts being very prominent. That leaves off some of the most obvious, but WWE does still have their eyes pointed elsewhere.
Shawn Michaels was recently interviewed by My San Antonio and revealed that NXT was still looking for both independent and Japanese wrestlers. Michaels said that nothing is off the table when it comes to finding new talent, which will continue to be the case in the future. This comes after reports that NXT was no longer looking for independent wrestlers but rather focusing on athletes that could be turned into wrestlers.
Opinion: This is far from a surprise and something that is still nice to hear. What matters is that WWE is trying to look through the more traditional areas for future talent. I understand the idea of bringing in athletes..
