Monday Night Raw Results – October 17, 2022

Monday Night Raw
Date: October 17, 2022
Location: Paycom Center, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Commentators: Corey Graves, Kevin Patrick
We’re rapidly approaching Crown Jewel and WWE has the main event covered with Logan Paul challenging Roman Reigns. That leaves some spots open for the rest of the card, some of which needs to be filled in soon. Odds are we’ll get some of that soon and you can probably guess some of the matches from here. Let’s get to it.
We open with Bobby Lashley in the ring mid-promo, where he calls out Brock Lesnar. Cue Lesnar and they get in a fight before Lesnar can even make it to the ring, with Lashley getting posted on the floor. Lashley slips out of another posting and sends Lesnar into it instead. A spear through the barricade draws out wrestlers and officials to break it up but Lashley gets away. This time it’s Lesnar going through the announcers’ table (on the second attempt) to leave him laying.

Huge Grudge Match Added To WWE Crown Jewel Card

Three on each side. We are coming up on one of the biggest WWE shows of the year with November 5’s Crown Jewel. The show will be taking place in Saudi Arabia as part of WWE’s working relationship with the kingdom. The events often feature major stars in showdowns, some of which have been built up for white awhile. Now another match has been set up for the show, featuring quite a bit of star power.
This week on Monday Night Raw, a six man tag was announced for Crown Jewel, featuring AJ Styles and the OC against Judgment Day. The feud started last week when the OC returned to help Styles fight against Judgment Day after several weeks. As a result, Judgment Day issued the challenge, with Styles accepting for the team. The match is the second announced for the card, following Logan Paul challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Title.
Opinion: You almost had to know that this match was coming sooner or later so it makes sense to put it on the biggest upcoming show WWE has..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Making Changes To Several Premium Live Events

That would be different. WWE runs regular monthly premium live events as the focal point of their in-ring action. This includes several shows that the company has run for years if not decades, many of which are among the best known shows in wrestling. The company presents several shows that involve some kind of a special theme, but that might be changing going forward.
According to Bryan Alvarez’s Super Fans Twitter account, by way of Wrestlingnews.co, WWE is planning to make a change to its premium live events starting in 2023. This would include more international events and fewer gimmick based events, such as Hell In A Cell or Tables Ladders And Chairs, for example. There is no word on what kind of shows would replace the originals. This comes after news broke that WWE was canceling it’s Day One event.
Per Bryan Alvarez, WWE will make major changes to PPV/PLE events in 2023. Likely more international shows, less gimmick shows.

Former WWE Star Set For Official Retirement Match

You have to hang it up eventually. Retirement is a weird concept for a lot of wrestlers as several of them have issues with leaving wrestling. Many of them have often stick around longer than expected as they can keep coming back for one more match here or there. Eventually everyone has to hang up the boots though and that is going to be the case with another former WWE star.
According to Fightful, Mike Bucci, formerly known as Nova or Simon Dean in WWE, will be wrestling his final match on December 3. Bucci, 50 years old, will team with Aron Stevens (formerly known as Damien Sandow) and another partner to be named against Matt Cardona, Brian Myers and another partner to be named at Stand Alone Wrestling’s Contest Of Champions in in Tom’s River, New Jersey. Bucci began wrestling in 1992 and made his name in ECW as part of the Blue World Order. He has also wrestled in WWE and around the independent circuit.
Opinion: This is one of those things that you know has to happen at some point..

WWE Extends Offer To 34 Year Old Former Champion To Return

He would be a big get. There are a lot of changes throughout WWE in recent months and several of those have involved wrestlers returning to the company. All kinds of stars are returning to WWE and it has made for several surprise appearances. It can mean a lot to have someone come back, and now WWE is attempting to bring back someone who showed a lot of potential.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has made “offers” to Jonah, formerly known as Bronson Reed in NXT, to return to the company. This comes a few weeks after rumors that WWE was interested in bringing him back. There is no word on if Jonah is interested in making a return. Jonah, 34 years old, wrestled in NXT from 2019-2021 before being released as part of massive budget cuts. He is a former NXT North American Champion and has wrestled for New Japan and Impact Wrestling since leaving WWE.
Opinion: I could certainly go for something like this as Jonah is someone who felt like he could have become one of the t..

Melina Explains How WWE Would Punish Its Women’s Wrestlers

That’s a little harsh. The world of women’s wrestling in WWE has come a very long way in the last few years and that has been a very good thing. Women’s wrestling had long been treated as a sideshow and rarely something to be taken seriously. Now though, women in WWE have become among the top stars in the promotion. However, things were not always that way and now we know just how bad things got.
In a new interview with Wrestling Purists, former WWE star Melina spoke about how women were punished in WWE in previous eras. Melina said that after women would do something extraordinary, they be punished with absurd matches, such as swimsuit matches or lingerie matches. This would be done in an effort to see how the women would react, with Melina eventually trying to turn it into a game to see just how far the company would take it with them.
Opinion: This is one of those things that feels almost impossible to imagine but it wasn’t all that long ago. Women’s wrestling was little more than..

WWE Officials High On Roxanne Perez

They liked what they saw. NXT superstar Roxanne Perez made her main roster debut this past week on Smackdown, teaming with Shotzi and Raquel Rodriguez to take on Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky of Damage Control.
According to reports from both Wrestling News and PWInsider, WWE officials were very impressed with what they saw from Perez and plan on continuing to use her on the main roster again very soon.
Perez has had quite the rise in professional wrestling since beginning her training at Booker T’s wrestling school at the age of 16. She debuted for Ring of Honor in April 2021 at the age of 19, winning the inaugural ROH Women’s World Championship and becoming the youngest female champion in company history. She would debut in NXT in April 2022 at the age of 20.
Editor’s Opinion:
There are some sueprstars that just have natural talent, and she appears to be one of them. I’ve always been a big fan of her work and now that she’s having the opportunity to show the world what she can d..

Bret Hart Names The Greatest Villain In WWE History (You Might Be Surprised)

That’s some high praise. There have been a lot of stars throughout WWE’s history but only a few have reached the top of the company. Those are the names that fans remember for decades to come as they have left a lasting impact on everything they do. Hearing from them even after they are retired can still mean a lot and now one of the all time legends has made a bold statement.
During a recent edition of WWE’s Table For Three, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart said he never saw a villain in WWE who was as good as Jerry Lawler, who was also on the show. Hart and Lawler feuded on and off from 1993 until 1995, with the two squaring off in multiple matches, with their most notable being the Kiss My Foot match at King Of The Ring 1995.
Opinion: You don’t get that kind of praise from someone on Hart’s level very often and Lawler deserves quite a bit of credit. There was something so dastardly about Lawler that it was easy to want to see him get pounded into the ground every time he was on camera…

Here’s One Of The First Storylines Triple H Dropped When He Regained Power In WWE

He wasn’t a fan. There are all kinds of characters in wrestling and some of them are a lot more successful than others. Finding the right character for the right wrestlers is one of the trickiest things to do as the wrong combination can be a complete mistake. WWE seemed to think that someone was doing the wrong thing and the change has taken place right before your eyes.
Last week on Monday Night Raw, WWE advertised the return of Elias on the following week’s show. This will seemingly be Elias’ full time return after more than a year away, save for a one off cameo earlier this year. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Triple H dropped the Ezekiel character and reverted to Elias almost immediately upon regaining power in WWE. There is no word on if Ezekiel will be referenced again.
Opinion: This is one of those things that makes sense the more you think about it. There was little future for Ezekiel, as his entire personality was built around saying he was not Elias’ broth..

Injured WWE Star Returns To Action After Four Month Absence

Welcome back. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to any wrestler. No matter who you are or how long you have been around, an injury can take you out at any time, even through no fault of your own. Aside from your health, the question becomes how long you are going to be on the shelf. Now we have an answer to that, as a long injured WWE star is back in the ring.
Monday Night Raw’s Rhea Ripley returned to action this weekend at a WWE live event in Sioux City, Iowa. Ripley teamed with Damian Priest in a losing effort against the team of Dolph Ziggler and Nikki Ash. This was Ripley’s first match in over four months as she had suffered a brain injury, which kept her from challenging Bianca Belair for the Raw Women’s Title at Money In The Bank.

WATCH: Rey Mysterio Makes Surprise Appearance For AAA TripleMania XXX

He doesn’t go here. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world but it is not the only one. There are several other promotions around the world, some of which have their own legacies and histories. Their biggest events are among the most important in the world and that was the case this weekend. It was so big that a WWE legend made a surprise appearance.
This weekend, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide held the third and final night of its TripleMania XXX show. The event marked thirty years of AAA and WWE Rey Mysterio made a surprise cameo via pre-recorded video. Mysterio talked about how important it was to wrestle at TripleMania and praised the company and wrestlers on the card. Mysterio wrestled in AAA in the early 1990s before coming to American to wrestle full time.
This was special. Check out Mysterio’s message for AAA (and some of his trophy room):

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Cancels Upcoming Premium Live Event, Not Rescheduling

Clear it off the calendar. WWE runs a lot of events throughout the year, with the majority being weekly television shows. In addition, the company runs about one premium live event a month, many of which have some sort of theme. Some of these have a long history but others are one off ideas that do not have a chance to go anywhere. It seems that there will be another on that list.
According to Brandon Thurston’s Patreon account, WWE has canceled the January 1, 2023 Day One event at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia and it will not be rescheduled. As of now, there are no premium live events scheduled between Survivor Series in November and Royal Rumble in January. There is no word on why the show was canceled, though scheduling against football could be an issue. An event is currently still listed on the State Farm Arena’s website, though the event is listed as TBA.
Opinion: This is a move that makes sense, as WWE would have trouble continuing these events on every January 1. I..
