History Has Been Made (Again!): Title Change Takes Place On AEW Dynamite
It’s one of their strong suits. AEW has not been around for a very long time compared to other promotions, though they do have some strong traditions. One of their bigger ones is the way they treat their titles. The company’s championships have been treated as the most important things in the entire promotion and a title change makes a difference. That was the case again this week.
The main event of this week’s AEW Dynamite saw Thunder Rosa defeat Britt Baker to become the new AEW Women’s Champion. Rosa won the title in a cage match after giving baker a Fire Thunder Driver onto thumbtacks. The match was a rematch of last year’s St. Patrick’s Day Slam, when Rosa defeated Baker, who had held the title since May 30, 2021 for a reign of 290 days.
Opinion: This was a title change that felt like it had been coming for a long time now and that is not always a bad thing. Baker had been champion for the better part of a year and there was little reason for her to hold onto it any longer. Rosa was ready to win the title and it was the right way to go with a bunch of challengers waiting on her. It helps that there is a history there and the whole thing worked as a big spectacle.
What did you think of the match? How will Rosa do as champion? Let us know in the comments below.
