Impact Wrestling Results – October 20, 2022

October 21, 2022 • Admin

Impact Wrestling Date: October 20, 2022 Location: Albany Armory, Albany, New York Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan We’re still coming out of Bound For Glory and that means it is time to start getting ready for whatever the next monthly special is going to be. In this case, that means Frankie Kazarian is going to cash in his X-Division Title for a World Title shot against Josh Alexander. That is likely going to mean some competition for the vacant title and it might start tonight. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. The Bullet Club goes to see Ace Austin but find him down in the parking lot. Tommy Dreamer is here but denies everything. Opening sequence. Tommy Dreamer/Bully Ray vs. Bullet Club It’s Chris Bey/Juice Robinson here, with Robinson putting on his wrist tape on the way to the ring (as he is replacing Austin). Dreamer sends Bey to the apron to start but it’s quickly off to Robinson to stomp Ray down in the corner. Some rapid fire chops in the corner have Robinson in..

Major Update On CM Punk/AEW Situation Going Forward

October 21, 2022 • Admin

Farewell? With so much talent in the wrestling world, it can be difficult to keep everyone happy. At some point, someone is going to be unhappy with whatever they’re doing and that can become an issue. Sometimes a wrestler is going to run into some kind of trouble and that is the case again with a top name, who might be on his way out after a major ordeal earlier this year. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is looking into buying out CM Punk’s contract, which would end his time with the company. This comes after Punk was involved in the backstage brawl after All Out in September. The main sticking point in the two sides coming to an agreement is Punk’s no compete clause, which would prevent him from going to WWE should the two sides want to work together again in the future. However, Punk is still recovering from triceps surgery and would be unable to wrestle anywhere for several months anyway. Opinion: I don’t think this is the biggest surprise as AEW was going to ..

WATCH: Stone Cold Steve Austin Animated Series Reportedly Held Up By WWE

October 21, 2022 • Admin

That sounds awesome. There are all kinds of ways to present wrestling stars and some of them have nothing to do with wrestling. Over the years, wrestlers have gotten into different forms of media as a way to present themselves to fans outside of their main industry. A legend is trying to do it again, but there might be a few problems preventing it from happening. Comedian Dan Soder appeared on Barstool’s KFC Radio and talked about having developed an animated series along with fellow comedian Dan St. Germain and Steve Austin. The series was sold to Peacock, but WWE and Peacock are now holding up the series in some unspecified way. The three developed the series during the Coronavirus pandemic but it has sat on the shelf for seventeen months due to the issues. There is no word on if the series will ever air, though Soder did say Austin himself was onboard. He can explain it better. Check out Soder’s comments: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure what is go..

Trevor Murdoch Once Punched Out Irate Fan To Save Randy Orton

October 21, 2022 • Admin

That could have been a lot worse. Wrestlers have to do a lot of things right to make a match or event come together in the right way. Above all else, they are tasked with making fans care about them in one way or another, which can be rather difficult. At times, they can be too good at their job and a fan can take things a bit too far. A former WWE star has quite the story about how a fan got out of hand and had to be dealt with quickly. Former WWE star and reigning NWA World Champion Trevor Murdoch appeared on the 10 Count podcast and talked about a time in a hotel bar in Ireland with then WWE Champion Randy Orton. A fan came up to Orton and asked for an autograph, which Orton gave him. The fan then insisted on getting something else signed, which Orton declined and asked to be left alone. This caused the fan to go into a tirade against Orton, shouting about how the fans pay his salary. The fan was taken away by security but was waiting for Orton in the foyer later in the night. Mur..

Former WWE Star Pitches Idea For Return After 11 Year Absence

October 21, 2022 • Admin

It’s an idea. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestler and nostalgia can be one of the most entertaining. It can be a lot of fun to see a wrestler from days past show up again after a long absence. If it is in a way that you might not expect but still fits, everything can be better. A former WWE star is now pitching a return in a spot that suits him about as perfectly as can be asked. During an appearance on the 10 Count podcast, former WWE star Chris Masters pitched an idea for a Royal Rumble return. Masters suggested that he return during the Royal Rumble when Bobby Lashley had someone in the Hurt Lock, playing up the idea of the Hurt Lock vs. Masters’ Masterlock full nelson. There is nothing to suggest that WWE is interested in bringing Masters, who last wrestled in WWE in 2011, back for another run with the company. Opinion: While I don’t know if I can imagine WWE actually going in this direction, it certainly is an idea for a story. Maybe that is where WWE goes one day and ..

Kevin Nash’s Son, Tristen, Passes Away At Age 26

October 21, 2022 • Admin

We have some very sad news to report today as Kevin Nash’s son, Tristen, has tragically passed away at the age of 26. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reported the news and issued the following statement: “On behalf of Kevin and Tamara Nash, I have to unfortunately report that their son Tristen Nash has tragically passed away at the age of 26. Tristen recently started working on Kevin’s new podcast and the two enjoyed their time together. The Nash family asks if you could please respect their privacy during this time.” Very unfortunate news to share. Sending love to the family of Tristen Nash. pic.twitter.com/VIj0dLqjcV — Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) October 20, 2022 Nash has recently began a podcast called Kliq This, co-hosted by Sean Oliver. Oliver had the following to say about Tristen’s passing: “I met a great young man this year named Tristen. He worked with me and his dad on a podcast we have, and proved to be smart, sweet, savvy, witty, and mature beyond his me..

WWE Partners With Disney+ To Air WWE Network Content In Certain Area

October 21, 2022 • Admin

That’s a big partnership. WWE is the biggest wrestling promotion in the world and has been for a very long time now. No other wrestling company is anywhere close to what WWE is doing at the moment and it makes sense for other companies outside of WWE to want in on it. Now one of the biggest entertainment companies in the world is going to be doing some business with WWE. According to PWInsider.com, the WWE Network will be available on Disney+ in the Philippines beginning on November 17. The agreement will include live events and archived content, plus material from the Star brand, which is similar to Hulu in the United States. There is currently nothing to suggest that Disney and WWE will be working together elsewhere in the near future. Opinion: This is something that doesn’t mean much in the United States or to most of the world, but anything involving WWE working with a company like Disney is a huge deal. That isn’t a partnership you get to see every day and it would not surprise ..

WWE Faces Possible Scheduling Conflict With Its Upcoming Premium Live Event

October 21, 2022 • Admin

It’s a busy night. WWE has dominated the wrestling world for decades and has long since had a tight grip on almost anything that takes place. Things have changed a bit in recent years though, as promotions are now able to present their own events on large stages as well. That is going to be the case in December, but WWE might be wanting some of the same space on the same day. This week on AEW Dynamite, an announcement was made that Ring Of Honor Final Battle 2022 will take place on December 10. According to Fightful Select, WWE will be presenting an NXT premium live event on the same day, though it is not clear if the two events will take place at the same time. Final Battle is scheduled to take place at 4pm EST. In September, NXT presented its Worlds Collide event on the same day as AEW All Out. Opinion: This is one of those things that makes for a rather busy day and little else. WWE could very easily run the NXT show that night and nothing will come of this, so it’s probably too e..

WATCH: 47 Year Old WWE Veteran Suggests Major Career Changes

October 21, 2022 • Admin

The new version? Finding the right character for anyone is a difficult trick in wrestling. If someone is not presented in the right way, their career could be in a lot of trouble. There is always the option of switching things up, and that could be done in a variety of ways. Now it seems that WWE is making an effort to change up one of its longest standing veterans into something more serious. In recent weeks, Shelton Benjamin and R-Truth have teamed together on Main Event. This week, the two were backstage where Benjamin talked about how he needed to take things more seriously. Benjamin said that he had more of his career behind him than in front of him and everyone told him to be more serious around here. He explained that he describes himself as a former champion to remind himself of how good he used to be. Benjamin then walked away from R-Truth, who said nothing. This is a different way to go. Check out what Benjamin had to say: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion..

AEW Star Launched Into Orbit During Wednesday’s Dynamite (It’s A Long Evil Uno Story)

October 21, 2022 • Admin

Well that’s….different. AEW has gone from non-existent to one of the biggest wrestling promotions in the world in less than four years. The company’s main television show, Dynamite, has been a major part of its rise as the show regularly features the top AEW names in a variety of matches. However, this week’s show was a bit different, and an AEW star had his own version of things. This week’s edition of AEW Dynamite took place on Tuesday night instead of its usual Wednesday night time slot due to TBS’s coverage of the Major League Baseball playoffs. During the Wednesday time slot, AEW’s Evil Uno live tweeted his own version of Dynamite, which did not air and had nothing to do with anything that took place on the Tuesday version of the show. Here is what Uno said took place: The show begins! We have a special commentary team of Excalibur, Daddy Magic, Bill Regal, one of The Boys (can’t tell which one) and of course, Evil Uno! #ItsExplosive — EVIL UNO is a GOOD GUY (@EvilUno) October ..

Two Title Changes Take Place During The Same Show

October 21, 2022 • Admin

There go two of them. Titles are the most important things in wrestling as they identify the biggest stars in any given promotion. Any fan understands the idea of a wrestler holding a shiny gold belt and holding it can mean a lot. It can also mean quite a bit when a title changes hands, which was the case this week, albeit in two rather different fashions entirely. Two titles changed hands this week on Impact Wrestling. First, Frankie Kazarian vacated the X-Division Title he won at Bound For Glory via Option C, earning himself a World Title shot against Josh Alexander. Later in the show, Honor No More’s Matt Taven and Mike Bennett lost the Tag Team Titles to Heath and Rhino. This comes after Taven and Bennett made their AEW debuts last week on Rampage. Opinion: That is quite the eventful night and you do not see something like this happen very often. Kazarian had announced that he was going to be vacating the title last week so there was only so much surprise. It was similarly true o..

WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Making Plans For Special Milestone Show

October 21, 2022 • Admin

It’s a special day. Some of the most important moments in the history of wrestling have taken place on television. Most modern wrestling promotions are built around television, allowing millions of fans to see what has been going on. Watching those shows has become a weekly tradition for years and now the biggest wrestling show in history is setting up for a major milestone. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE has set plans in motion for the 30th anniversary of Monday Night Raw in January, though there is no word on what those plans might be. When Vince McMahon was still in charge of WWE, there was a possibility of the show taking place at the Manhattan Center in New York City but it is not clear if that plan is still an option. Monday Night Raw debuted on January 11, 1993. I’m told plans are in motion for the 30th Anniversary of RAW show coming up in January. Prior to the new leadership taking over, having the show from The Manhattan Center again in NYC was on the tab..

Wrestling Legend Reveals Another Near Backstage AEW Brawl

October 20, 2022 • Admin

Yes, almost again. There are a lot of different kinds of personalities in any wrestling locker room and sometimes those personalities can clash in a bad way. It can be rough seeing things break down between stars but there is very little that can be done to avoid the situation entirely. Now we are hearing about what was almost another backstage brawl between AEW stars. During the latest episode of Konnan’s Keepin’ It 100 podcast, Konnan spoke about the backstage issues in AEW between Santana and Ortiz. Konnan said that he heard that their issues almost led to a physical altercation between Santana and Eddie Kingston, though there was no reason given for what led to the issue. There is no word no why Santana and Ortiz’s relationship has broken down. It should also be noted that any Kingston and Santana incident would have taken place in May at the earliest, as Santana has been out of action with a knee injury. Opinion: Somehow this is a relief as AEW has built up a reputation as a com..

AEW Officials Spoke To Two Stars After Recent Aggressive Match

October 20, 2022 • Admin

That could have gotten bad. There are a lot of issues that take place during a wrestling show but one of the most impressive things a company can do is keep the fans from knowing about them. Sometimes you can notice a problem here or there though and that was the case last week, to the point where a promotion’s officials had to make sure that everything was ok. Last week on AEW Dark, Athena defeated Jody Threat in a match that saw both of them get more aggressive than usual. According to Fightful Select, AEW officials spoke to both of the women backstage to make sure everything was ok after the match. Sources close to Athena believe that she switched into a heel role during the match because of the positive reaction that Threat received during the match. Threat was said to have no complaints as she tries to avoid the political side of wrestling. Neither woman was said to be upset about anything that happened and there was no confrontation backstage. Opinion: The good thing here is th..

Miz Reveals That He Is Dealing With A Variety Of Injuries

October 20, 2022 • Admin

That’s quite the problem. There are all kinds of ways that a wrestler can get hurt and the question becomes what happens to them from there. Injuries can put someone on the shelf for a long time, but there are also injuries where someone is able to work through whatever is wrong with them. That is the case again with a WWE star, who is working with a bit of an injury. Monday Night Raw star the Miz appeared on Austin Ekler’s Ekler’s Edge podcast where he revealed that he is working through a busted bursa sac, though he did not specify where or when it took place. Miz also mentioned that he had messed up his shoulder a little bit. While Miz did not have his scheduled match this week on Monday Night Raw, he did say that he will be wrestling a dark match this week at SmackDown. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you hear about from wrestlers on a regular basis but it is always rather impressive to see someone work through this kind of an injury. Miz is a talented star and someone wh..

NXT Results – October 18, 2022

October 19, 2022 • Admin

NXT Date: October 18, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T, Vic Joseph It’s the go home show for Halloween Havoc and that means it is time for the final push towards the show. In this case that means we have some main roster stars in some Pick Your Poison matches for Cora Jade and Roxanne Perez. Other than that, we need one more night to set up the triple threat NXT Title match, which certainly needs the help. Let’s get to it. Rhea Ripley vs. Roxanne Perez The rest of Judgment Day is here with Ripley, who is Cora Jade’s pick to face Perez. The fans are glad to see Rhea and think she is going to kill Perez, rather enthusiastically really. Perez goes for the wristlock to little avail and the spinning headscissors doesn’t work. A chop just makes Ripley mad so she headbutts Perez in the ribs. Ripley forearms her into the back and is starting to look rather comfortable. A quick hurricanrana sends Ripley outside but she moves before Perez can di..

Update On Becky Lynch’s Injury Status (And It’s Not Great)

October 19, 2022 • Admin

That’s not so good. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know how long they might be out of action. It instantly brings up the questions of just how bad things are and when you might be seeing them return to the ring. That was the case with a top WWE name earlier this year and now we have some bad news about her recovery time. Becky Lynch suffered a separated shoulder during her match against Bianca Belair at Summerslam in July, putting her on the shelf since. According to Fightful Select, it will be a few more months before Lynch is able to return to the ring. While WWE is hopeful that she will be able to wrestle again by the end of the year, it is far from a guarantee. Lynch will not require surgery to repair the damage. Opinion: There is some good with the bad here, as the lack of surgery is always a positive. At the same time though, not knowing how long Lynch is going to be out does not bode well as it is still open ended. It will be gr..

AEW Releases Name Involved In All Out Backstage Brawl

October 19, 2022 • Admin

It had to happen to someone. There have been a lot of stories in wrestling this year but perhaps the most bizarre has been the backstage brawl after AEW All Out. There have been several suspensions as a result of the issue and the question becomes just how bad things are going to get for everyone. While there are still issues to be decided for the top names, we now know the fate of one person involved. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, AEW has officially released Ace Steel from the company, where he had been working backstage. Steel was involved in the backstage brawl and reportedly threw a chair, which hit Nick Jackson in the head. Steel had also appeared on a recent edition of Dynamite, where he inspired CM Punk to face Jon Moxley in a rematch for the AEW World Title. Opinion: I don’t think this is quite the surprise as Steel wasn’t a major name in AEW and hadn’t even been around that long. It makes sense for Steel to be gone from the company and eliminates one factor in the e..

SmackDown Star Makes Surprise NXT Appearance (And He Could Be Sticking Around)

October 19, 2022 • Admin

There is a place for him. WWE has a lot of talent but there is only so much time to put that talent on television. It can be difficult to come up with something for everyone to do and sometimes the best answer is to move them to another show for a change. Having three shows helps WWE quite a bit and now it seems that one star might be going to another of those shows. Shinsuke Nakamura appeared on this week’s edition of NXT as a surprise, defeating Stacks of the D’Angelo Family. It was Nakamura’s first televised match since the August 26 SmackDown. According to Fightful Select, and prior to the appearance, there had been discussion in WWE about Nakamura appearing for NXT. It is not clear if this will be a one off appearance or a permanent, or even semi-permanent, move. Opinion: This is one of those situations where we’ll have to wait and see what happens but Nakamura going back to NXT, even for a bit, could be interesting. Nakamura is an NXT legend and doesn’t have anything going on u..

AEW Signs Top Star To New Deal, Gives Him Several New Jobs

October 19, 2022 • Admin

He has a future. There are certain wrestlers who reach the top level of the industry and become legends. It can be even more impressive if someone becomes a legend in their own time, making them even more valuable. A promotion will often want to try to keep someone like that under contract for as long as possible and now AEW is doing just that with perhaps its most famous star. According to Variety, Chris Jericho has signed a new three year contract with AEW, which will keep him in the company until December 2025. In addition to wrestling, the new deal comes with additional duties for Jericho, who will become a producer, an advisor to creative as well as a mentor to younger wrestlers. Jericho has been with AEW since the beginning and is the current Ring Of Honor World Champion. Opinion: Keeping Jericho around is the right thing for AEW as he is the biggest star the company has ever had. I’m curious to see what he does in AEW, but the idea of Jericho as a creative consultant is someth..
