REVIEW: Night Of Champions 2014: Don’t Let Him Do It Again

September 15, 2020 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Night of Champions 2014 Date: September 21, 2014 Location: Bridgestone Arena, Nashville, Tennessee Commentators: Michael Cole, John Bradshaw Layfield, Jerry Lawler This is the textbook definition of a one match show and now the second or third biggest match isn’t happening. Yesterday Roman Reigns was sent to the hospital with a hernia, putting him out of action for several weeks if not months. The main event is of course Cena vs. Lesnar II (III if you count the match from two and a half years ago) with Lesnar defendi..

Clash Of Champions Title Match Changed, Challenger In Doubt

September 15, 2020 • Admin

You can still make adjustments. There are a lot of things being set up for Clash Of Champions and every one of them so far is built around a championship match. That is a nice thing to see as title feuds are as easy of a match to put together as you can have. WWE has set up several matches already but one of them is a little more personal. That match will now get a little bonus. The main event of Clash Of Champions will see WWE Champion Drew McIntyre defending against Randy Orton. The two of them have been feuding for over a month now, including McIntyre pinning Orton at Summerslam. Since then, they have traded kicks to the head and put one another on the shelf. Now we are going to be seeing something a little different in their rematch. During this week’s Monday Night Raw, McIntyre challenged Orton to an ambulance match at Clash Of Champions. This came after the two of them have attacked each other over the last several weeks, including both sending the other to the hospital. The ma..

Monday Night Raw Live Coverage And Results – September 14, 2020

September 14, 2020 • Admin

Monday Night Raw Date: September 14, 2020 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, Dolph Ziggler We are less than two weeks away from Clash Of Champions but more importantly this is In Your Face Raw, which is no way their big show to counter the debut of Monday Night Football. Therefore, the question here is how far do they get blown back to the Stone Age in terms of the ratings and viewership. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Dolph Ziggler is on commentary for the opening preview. Here’s Drew McIntyre to open things up, now with the sound of a sword being pulled out of a sheath because that’s a thing WWE loves. We see a long recap of the exchange of kicks to the head over the last few years. Back in the arena, McIntyre says that Orton should be lucky that his head is still on his head. McIntyre has been told that because of his fractured jaw, he needs to take some time off. However, that means vacating the WWE Championship so that isn’t ..

WWE Confirms New Title Match For Clash Of Champions

September 14, 2020 • Admin

Keep them coming. We are less than two weeks away from Clash Of Champions and that means that the card still has some work to be done. With so many championships available to be defended, WWE needs to set up a few of their title matches over the next few weeks. Some of the title matches are already set but there are plenty more to go. WWE has now checked another off the list. The Women’s Tag Team Titles have gotten a nice boost over the last few months. The titles are still less than two years old and they have a long way to go in the future. One of the best ways to build up the titles is to have teams fighting to hold the belts. It makes them feel more valuable and that is what we are going to be getting at Clash Of Champions. One of the teams even has a team name. WWE.com has announced that the Riott Squad will be challenging Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Tag Team Titles at Clash Of Champions. The Riott Squad won a #1 contenders match by defeating the IIconics on the A..

Ivar Set To Undergo Neck Surgery

September 14, 2020 • Admin

That’s a bad turn of events. One of the scariest parts of an injury is seeing just how long someone is going to be on the shelf. There are some injuries that you know are going to be a lot worse than others and the neck is one of the worst possible areas to have injured. Neck surgery can put someone on the shelf for a very long time if not permanently, and we might be seeing something similar soon. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Ivar of the Viking Raiders hit a suicide dive during an eight man tag but immediately threw up the X sign, meaning that he was legitimately injured. It was the kind of injury that required him to be taken away on a stretcher after the match and then the waiting game was on. Ivar’s neck was clearly hurt, but the question was how bad. Now we know a bit more. According to Wrestling Observer Live, Ivar is scheduled to undergo neck surgery this week. There is currently no word on how long Ivar’s recovery time will be or how long it will be before he can get back i..

VIDEO: John Morrison Starring In New Film

September 14, 2020 • Admin

It’s something else. Over the years, a lot of wrestlers have tried their hand in acting. The two industries do seem to go hand in hand and it isn’t crazy to imagine a wrestler becoming a successful actor. However, that has rarely seemed to be the case, as a lot of wrestlers who have gone into the other field have not exactly been thriving successes. The Rock has been quite the example in the field, but now someone else is seemingly making a run at it. Back in 2017, John Hennigan (better known as John Morrison of SmackDown fame) released a film called Boone: The Bounty Hunter, featuring himself as both the star and co-writer. The film was a step above the usual direct to video fare that you see from wrestlers and seemed to keep Hennigan’s interest in the field alive. Hennigan had some screen presence to him and now we are going to be seeing him in another movie role. This seems interesting. Check out a trailer for Hennigan’s new film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpqJsF_3OG A tra..

Is The Elite Finished In AEW?

September 14, 2020 • Admin

Kenny Omega and Hangman Adam Page’s AEW World Tag Team Championship loss to FTR at September 5’s All Out was not exactly the upset of the year. Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood had a world of momentum going into the match and since their departure from WWE, their title win was a foregone conclusion for many pro wrestling fans. But the fallout from that win has left The Elite in disarray. Page is out of the group due to The Young Bucks, who appear to be turning on everyone around them. Omega has decided to return to singles competition and Cody has disappeared from AEW programming. Does all of this signal the end of The Elite? It’s hard to imagine that The Elite is truly finished. After all, these are the same men who formed AEW in the first place. Without The Elite, there is obviously no All Elite Wrestling. But it does appear that the group has reached a critical point in their run and maybe that’s exactly what needs to happen. One of the chief criticisms against AEW in the very beginn..

VIDEO: Vince McMahon’s Surprise Praise For A WWE Superstar

September 14, 2020 • Admin

That’s some high praise. There is no bigger name in all of wrestling than Vince McMahon. An endorsement from him can make a wrestler’s career and that is the kind of thing you can only hope for at some point. Some wrestlers are going to impress him right off the bat though and that seems to be the case with someone who is still quite the newcomer to WWE. Earlier this year, Rey Mysterio’s son Dominik began his in-ring career and immediately jumped into the deep end by feuding with former World Champion Seth Rollins. Dominik fought alongside and with his father against Rollins and Murphy while finding some success of his own. The results have been fairly strong and he has impressed the person whose opinion matters the most. This is pretty impressive. Check out what McMahon had to say: https://media.wrestlingrumors.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/14013117/Dominik-Mysterio-Vince-McMahon.mp4 WWE has released a clip from the WWE Network Special The Day: Summerslam 2020, which features Domi..

AEW Or New Japan: When Will Jon Moxley Face KENTA?

September 13, 2020 • Admin

KENTA’s victory in the first ever New Japan Cup USA Tournament on August 21 gave him the right to challenge for the IWGP United States Championship. KENTA has held only one title, the NEVER Openweight championship, since arriving in the promotion in 2019 and now wants to add the U.S. belt to his list of accomplishments. But the problem is that the current United States champion, Jon Moxley, is also the AEW World Heavyweight champion. Mox has obligations to Tony Khan’s company and thanks to travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the champ has been unable to work in Japan. So what happens now? Fans of both KENTA and Mox want to see a match between the two and that’s been evident since KENTA debuted in NJPW. KENTA was very vocal about wanting to face the best competition in New Japan and that was the case from the moment he arrived. Moxley’s name was thrown around more than once, teasing fans with a showdown that was surely on the horizon. But that match never happened and n..

Jon Moxley Vs. Lance Archer: Who Will Emerge As The AEW World Champion?

September 13, 2020 • Admin

Jon Moxley will defend the AEW World Championship against Lance Archer on the anniversary edition of Dynamite on Wednesday, October 14. Archer became the No.1 Contender after winning the Casino Battle Royale at September 5’s All Out pay-per-view. At nearly 200 days, Moxley is the longest reigning AEW World champion in the company’s short history. His title win in 2019 set him on the path of dominance at the main event level and he’s been riding high against every challenger that’s come his way. But will he make it past The Murderhawk Monster on October 14? This match is one that was bound to happen at some point. Archer has been booked as a top star since his AEW debut on March 11, 2020. Archer rode the wave of momentum he had from New Japan Pro Wrestling and used it to establish himself in Tony Khan’s company. Lance’s work in NJPW caught the attention of longtime fans who followed Archer’s career over the years and those fans were thrilled to see him finally get a real shot at star..

WWE RUMOR: Update On Sasha Banks’s On-Screen Status

September 13, 2020 • Admin

That didn’t take long. SmackDown has gotten a lot better in a short amount of time and the fans seem to be responding to the changes that they have been making. The show still has a long way to go, but they have some intriguing storylines that have caught the fans’ attention. One of them has been set up for a long time now and will be taking another step forward next week. Last week on SmackDown, Bayley and Sasha Banks failed in their attempt to regain the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Banks was injured during the match and as she was being tended to, Bayley turned on her and injured Banks even worse. This included a bad knee injury and Bayley Pillmaniazing Banks’ neck. That would seem to put someone out for a long time, but it might not be as long as you would expect. According to Wrestlingnews.co, FOX has been airing commercials advertising Banks returning to SmackDown on next week’s show. The ads say that she will be addressing the situation with Bayley after last week’s attack. It is ..

Fans Have Figured Out The SmackDown Mystery Woman

September 13, 2020 • Admin

AHA! Wrestling fans often do not get the credit that they deserve. The stereotype about wrestling fan is often that they are not very intelligent, which could not be further from the truth in a lot of cases. Like any other sport or field of entertainment, there are some very intelligent wrestling fans out there and some of them can find out a few things that a lot of regular fans might miss. Over the last two weeks, SmackDown has been airing vignettes of a mystery woman coming to the show. The woman’s face is never seen but she has long blonde hair and is carrying a fur coat. Her identity has been up in the air, but the question is whether she is someone who has been in WWE before or someone brand new. Now we might know a bit more, thanks to some eagle eyed fans. A fan on Twitter has posted photos of the mystery woman, followed by a photo of Carmella. Both photos feature a distinct tattoo on the left arm, making it almost certain that, assuming that the woman in the vignettes will be..

SmackDown Gets Some Great News This Week

September 13, 2020 • Admin

I’d call it a hit. WWE television has not been at its strongest in recent months and that is not the biggest surprise. After several months of not so great stories and angles, WWE was then confined to the Performance Center due to Coronavirus. The venue did not serve them very well, though it could have been much worse. However, things have gotten a bit better since their move to the Amway Center in August, and now they have a nice reward as a result. Back at Summerslam in August, Roman Reigns made his surprise return to WWE television after about five months off. Soon after that, Reigns joined forces with Paul Heyman in a major heel turn, which resulted in Reigns getting the Universal Title back. It has been a successful story and now we know a little bit more about just how popular the show has been getting lately. According to Showbuzz Daily, this week’s SmackDown drew the highest viewership since the WrestleMania 36 fallout show on April 10. The show’s overnight audience was 2.26..

VIDEO: R-Truth And Brock Lesnar’s Excellent Adventure

September 13, 2020 • Admin

He made it work. There are very few wrestlers who have been able to defy the laws of time like R-Truth. He started in the WWF all the way back in 1999 and came back after a lengthy hiatus, only to reach some incredible heights all over again. He has since moved on to become one of the more popular comedy wrestlers in WWE and those comedy skills were on display in a lucrative way earlier this year. R-Truth has gone from a serious wrestler to someone who is not always exactly on top of everything and is often confused. This has been a big part of his dominance of the 24/7 Title but he has also had some higher goals in mind. One such goal was winning the Royal Rumble, but Brock Lesnar entering the match had R-Truth a bit scared. The moment also had Lesnar in stitches of laughter, and that was worth something to someone. In a new interview with TalkSport, R-Truth spoke about his in-ring segment with Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar from January of this year. R-Truth says there was a bet betw..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – September 9, 2020

September 13, 2020 • Admin

Ring of Honor Date: September 9, 2020 Back when the Best Of shows began, I jokingly suggested that we would be getting the Best Of The Bouncers one day if this went on long enough and now that is exactly what we are getting. The team is a fun goofy act, but I’m not sure if we need to see a full show about them. Let’s get to it. Bouncers video. The Bouncers join us via Zoom with both guys being rather pleased with being on the big screen for once. They’re excited that Ring of Honor is going to be back but for now, they’re happy with drinking beer and watching their best fights. They’ll start off with a big match for some titles. From ROH TV, October 3, 2018. Six Man Tag Team Titles: Cody/Young Bucks vs. Silas Young/Bouncers Cody, with Brandi and Bernard, and the Bucks are defending. Matt tries his luck with the massive Milonas to start and gets knocked into the corner without much effort. Bruiser comes in to overpower Nick so everything breaks down with the champs triple dropkicking..

205 Live Results – September 11, 2020

September 13, 2020 • Admin

205 Live Date: September 11, 2020 Location: Amway Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Drew Gulak I’ve been liking this three match structure as of late, which makes me think that it isn’t going to last much longer. The show is still just half an hour long so it’s not like I can get too annoyed about it in the first place. We even had a bit of a cliffhanger last week when Legado del Fantasma interfered in the main event. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Ashante Adonis vs. Brian Kendrick That would be Tehuti Miles. Kendrick works on a wristlock to start but misses a charge into the corner, allowing Adonis to hit a dropkick for two. A boot to the face gives Kendrick the same and we hit a seated neck crank. Back up and Miles misses a crossbody, meaning it’s right back to the same crank. This time Miles fights up and drives him into the corner and blasts Kendrick with a clothesline. The comeback is on with a series of strikes and a spinebuster gives Miles two. There’s ..

Otis May Have Trouble Cashing In Money In The Bank

September 12, 2020 • Admin

That’s some fine print. Money In The Bank is one of the longer running concept in WWE, having now lasted more than fifteen years with several more wrestlers winning the briefcase over the years. The idea is pretty simple: win the ladder match by pulling down the briefcase and you get to challenge for the World Title at any time. That is the kind of thing that can make WWE turn rather hard in a hurry, but one wrestler’s contract is not what he thought. Back in May, Otis won the Money in the Bank contract, becoming one of the more surprising winners in the match’s history. Otis has gone on to hold the briefcase for the four months in between, with no indication of when he will be cashing it in. The contract is good for one year after Otis won it in the first place, or at least that is the idea in theory. The actual wording varies a bit. This week on SmackDown, Otis held up the contract in front of the camera, which allowed for a look at what it actually said. The text of the contract s..

WWE Trade: SmackDown Star Heading To Monday Night Raw

September 12, 2020 • Admin

Welcome to your new home. There are a lot of wrestlers under the WWE banner and that means there are a lot of ways to present several of them. That can mean different things for different people involved, but with the WWE roster split into two different brands, there are two distinct places for both groups to go. One name is going to be heading to a different show. Back at Summerslam, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville faced off in a No DQ Loser Leaves WWE match. This was a last second change from a Hair vs. Hair match, seemingly due to Deville’s real life issues with a stalker, which nearly ended far worse. Rose defeated Deville to get her out of the company, but now things have changed for her again in a pretty big way. During Saturday’s edition of Talking Smack, the Miz revealed that Rose has been traded to Monday Night Raw. WWE.com made an official announcement about the move later in the day. The move is being presented as Miz continuing his issues with Otis, who is being split up fro..

WWE RUMOR: Where Roman Reigns vs. The Fiend Is Heading

September 12, 2020 • Admin

That’s where we’re going. Two weeks ago, Roman Reigns joined forces with Paul Heyman to become WWE’s new big bad. That is the kind of pairing that you can almost never imagine really happening but here it was right in front of us. Two days later Reigns became the new Universal Champion and it seems like it could be a long time before he loses the title. Now we might have a few more details about how that is going to happen. Reigns won the title by taking it away from the Fiend, who had only held it for a week. The loss ended Fiend’s second reign with the title, which was quite the surprise after how long it had been since he held it in the first place. Fiend seems to be someone WWE is heavily invested in though and the Reigns vs. Fiend feud has seemed to be on the books for a long time now. It’s not over with yet by a long shot. According to Tom Colohue on the Dropkick DiSKussion podcast, WWE would like to wait on the Fiend vs. Reigns match for the Universal Title, though it is not c..
