New Development In Summerslam WWE Title Match

Maybe later? We are on the way to Summerslam and you can already see some of the card coming together. While nothing has been officially announced yet, the show is in less than a month and that means it is time to start getting ready for the show. Some matches are all but made already, though for one of the biggest, we might be having a little bit of a delay on the way there. This week on Monday Night Raw, Goldberg returned and issued a challenge to Bobby Lashley for a WWE Championship match, with the match expected to take place at Summerslam. Later in the week, Lashley said that Goldberg did not belong in the same ring as him and said “no thanks, old man”. Should the match take place, it would be Goldberg’s second title shot this year, following a Royal Rumble title match. You don’t belong in the same world as me, let alone the same ring. Get that close again, @The305MVP won’t be able to hold me back. No thanks, old man. #WWERaw @WWE pic.twitter.com/OcIL2e9j6t — Bobby Lashley (..

KB’s Review: 27! 11! 16! WOO!

You (slightly) older fans might remember Rob Van Dam’s theme song from the Forcible Entry CD. The song was called One Of A Kind and the name summed up Van Dam perfectly: there was only one of him and no one else was like him. For the most part, that was absolutely correct. No one talked like him, no one acted like him and no one wrestled like him, especially with the jumps and kicks. One of a Kind was the perfect name for him, and it is a phrase that you have probably heard in a lot of different places. Now let’s tweak that just a little bit. Imagine if the phrase instead was twenty seven of a kind. That doesn’t have quite the same ring to it, as the more you have of something the less unique or special each one is. It is true in wrestling just like anything else, which should explain one of the bigger current problems (out of many) in WWE. Right now, twenty seven people hold titles in WWE. That’s three shy of a Royal Rumble or five shy of the amount of people who wrestled at the fir..

Velveteen Dream Booked For Return And Immediately Canceled

Dream off. Every now and then, a wrestler becomes far more infamous than famous. For one reason or another, something bad happens to someone and it becomes a lot bigger than whatever it is that they are going to be doing in the ring. Often times, this is something from outside of the ring, which was the case with a wrestler who almost got back in the ring. On Wednesday, SWF Wrestling announced that former NXT star the Velveteen Dream would be appearing at their September 11 Home Sweet Home event. Later in the same day, the promotion sent out another tweet saying that despite the promotion’s owner, Rob Fury, believing that any man can be slandered for something untrue, Dream will no longer be appearing at the show. Dream was released from WWE earlier this year, following a period of inactivity due to allegations of inappropriate contact with underage fans. WWE said that they had investigated Dream but found no evidence of any wrongdoing. While WWE did not find anything, Dream was rele..

REVIEW: Saturday Night’s Main Event #32: Make It Stop

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Saturday Night’s Main Event #32 Date: March 18, 2006 Location: Cobo Arena, Detroit, Michigan Attendance: 7,000 Commentators: Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross, Tazz And then there’s this, as we need a two hour commercial for Wrestlemania. The main event is a handicap match between the John Cena/HHH (the Raw main event) and Rey Mysterio/Kurt Angle/Randy Orton (the Smackdown main event), though it could wind up at any part of the show. There’s also Shawn Michaels vs. Shane McMahon in a street fight, which could have some strong p..

Former WWE Star Plans To Wrestle Match….On The Moon

Well that would be…different. Traditionally, wrestling matches take place in a ring with four sides and four posts. It is something that has worked for decades now and there is nothing to suggest is needs to be changed. Every now and then you see a match take place elsewhere and there have been some unique locations. Now one wrestler wants to do something completely different. nZo, formerly known as Enzo Amore in WWE, sent out a tweet saying that he wants to have a match on the moon. After seeing that the oldest person in history went into space this week, along with hearing that Jerry Lawler was still wrestling in his 70s, nZo said that one day he would have a match on the moon. nZo said that he wanted to face Finn Balor in the match, though Balor has not responded. Today, an earth woman at 83 years old became the oldest person to ever enter outer space. If Jerry ”The King” Lawler is still at it & wrestling into his 70’s. You can bet your ass, one day, I’ll wrestle on the moon. #..

RUMOR: Daniel Bryan Signs With AEW, Details On Debut

That would be a big one. There have been a lot of changes in wrestling over the last few years and a lot of them have made for some very exciting situations. One of the biggest changes has been the amount of wrestlers moving from one promotion to another. This has given us some great moments, and now we might be in for the biggest change of them all so far. According to Bodyslam.net, AEW has signed Daniel Bryan to a deal and Bryan is “locked in” to the company. The deal calls for Bryan to make money close to what he was making in WWE, be able to work in Japan, and to have some creative control over his character. Another report from Bodyslam says that Bryan is expected to debut at Grand Slam on on September 22 in New York City. This comes after Bryan’s WWE contract expired at some point after April 30, when he lost a Universal Title match against Roman Reigns on SmackDown. Bryan would be a huge get. Check out what he could bring to AEW: [This post contains video, click to play] [T..

Chavo Guerrero Makes His Debut In AEW

The payroll increases. There were a pair of debuts on AEW Dynamite: Fyter Fest Part 2 this week, with the first one being Nick Gage. Later in the show, another recognizable figure made his presence known, as Chavo Guerrero made his debut with the company. During Andrade El Idolo’s segment with Tony Schiavone, Andrade announced that he had a major announcement for everyone. He announced that he had hired a new special consultant, and then brought out Chavo. What?! Chavo Guerrero (@mexwarrior) is here and he's the new executive consultant for @AndradeElIdolo. Surprise Title Change Takes Place On AEW Dynamite

History has been made! Titles are an interesting thing in wrestling as there are so many of them around today that they might not have the same impact that they have had in the past. With so many titles around, you are only going to get so far with any of them. Some promotions have fewer than others, but one imports from another promotion. Now one of those imported titles has changed hands. This week on AEW Dynamite, Lance Archer defeated Jon Moxley in a Texas Death Match to become the new IWGP United States Champion. Archer defeated Moxley by chokeslamming him through a pair of tables with a barbed wire board on top. This is the pair’s second Texas Death Match, after Moxley defeated Archer to win the title on January 4, 2020 at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in Tokyo, Japan. The win makes Archer a record tying two time champion. This was a war. Check out how the match went down, plus the two in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [Thi..

Nick Gage Makes His Debut In AEW

The roster continues to grow. AEW has added a number of new talent to its roster as of late, including Andrade El Idolo and Malakai Black. Tonight, on Dynamite: Fyter Fest Part 2, the roster grew by one more as Nick Gage made his debut. MJF introduced him as Chris Jericho’s opponent for a No Rules match on next week’s show. This is the second in his 5 Labors of Jericho series. .@The_MJF wastes no time for Labour #2. And OMG it's @thekingnickgage! He is the only man to win the “big three” of deathmatch tournaments: the Tournament of Death, the King of the Deathmatch, and GCW’s Tournament of Survival. Ring Of Honor TV Results – July 14, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: July 14, 2021 Location: UMBC Event Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We are officially done with Best In The World, though I haven’t quite wrapped up the show itself. Thankfully Ring of Honor gives you a pretty nice cushion with the TV shows not meaning much for the next few weeks. Therefore, this show is likely going to be about taking care of some more minor stories that didn’t make the pay per view, so let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Quinn McKay hypes up the pay per view. Dante Caballero/Joe Keys vs. Briscoes Caballero and Keys are both terrified coming in. Keys: “We’re gonna get our a**** whipped.” Mark and Keys start things off with Mark taking it to the mat in a hurry. It’s already off to Jay and we take an early break. Back with Jay hitting a basement dropkick and snapping off a suplex to give Mark one. Keys actually manages a belly to back on Jay, allowing the tag off to Caballero. Jay slips out of a slam though..

AEW Dynamite Live Coverage And Results – July 21, 2021

Dynamite Date: July 21, 2021 Location: Curtis Culwell Center, Garland, Texas Commentators: Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, Jim Ross It’s another special show this week with Fyter Fest Night Two, headlined by the IWGP United States Title Texas Deathmatch between Jon Moxley and Lance Archer. The recent shows have been pretty good as of late and I’m curious to see how well they can keep it up. Odds are they will, as they tend to do. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Spears Tully Blanchard is at ringside, MJF is on commentary Spears can use a chair but Jericho can’t. Jericho knocks him down to start but gets the chair taken away from him. That means Spears can chop him into the corner, only to be sent outside. A whip sends Spears into the barricade and Jericho heads back inside, leaving Spears to grab another chair. The triangle dropkick is cut off with a chair being pelted at the head. Jericho scores with an enziguri but gets belly to belly superplexed back down. S..

WATCH: John Cena vs. Kevin Owens From Battleground 2015

The battle continues. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between John Cena and Kevin Owens for the United States Championship from Battleground 2015. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: After absorbing some serious punishment from K.O. in the early goings of this anticipated rubber match, Cena caught Owens with an Attitude Adjustment, a maneuver that somehow only garnered a two-count. With frustration beginning to set in, Cena attempted to go high-risk, taking the challenger to the top rope for a superplex. Anticipating Cena’s next move, Owens reversed the maneuver, sending The Champ crashing down hard on his left shoulder. Cena reeled following that sickening impact, but this fight was far from finished. Dazed and visibly pained, Cena evaded a Pop-up Powerbomb from his opportunistic foe and again went for the Attitude Adjustment. However, Owens quickly countered with..

CM Punk Reportedly Negotiating For In-Ring Return

That would be a big one. There are certain wrestlers who have been away from the ring so long that it is almost impossible to imagine them actually coming back. Even if it might not seem logical, the allure of such a return is so strong that it is impossible to completely ignore. That is the case with one former wrestler in particular today, but that former might be going away soon. According to Fightful Select, CM Punk is in negotiations to return to the ring as a wrestler, with AEW being the front runner. There are no further details on the situation including the length of a potential deal or who Punk would be facing. Punk, 42, has not wrestled since the 2014 Royal Rumble, as he left WWE over disagreements with the company over a variety of issues. You might remember him. Check out Punk in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: As usual, I’ll believe this when I see it,..

Scary Injury Takes Place During This Week’s NXT

Hopefully it isn’t bad. You never know when you are going to see an injury in wrestling and they can often be a lot worse than they seem. It is a rather scary sight to see a lot of the time as you never know how bad something is going to be. You can often tell when something is wrong though and that was the case this week, though it might not have been as bad as it seemed. Xia Li was injured during the main event of this week’s NXT. Li was challenging NXT Women’s Champion Raquel Gonzalez when Gonzalez hit her with a middle rope backsplash. Gonzalez covered her and Li kicked out but the medical staff immediately came down to check on Li. After a few moments, Li got up and Gonzalez immediately used her lifting powerbomb to retain the title. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, Li was said to be ok after the match. For those asking about Xia Li, we were told she appeared okay backstage after NXT. — Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful.com (@SeanRossSapp) July 21, 2021 It was a nasty one. Ch..

Backstage Reaction To Karrion Kross’ Monday Night Raw Debut

Can you blame them? As is the case with so many other things, a first impression can mean almost everything in wrestling. At the same time though, it is very rare to have a wrestler really make their first impression, as so many wrestlers have performed elsewhere before someone can be seen. One wrestler made their first impression this week and it has not exactly been well received. Reigning NXT Champion Karrion Kross made his Monday Night Raw debut on this week’s show, losing to Jeff Hardy in a non-title match in one minute and forty seconds. This was Kross’ first loss in a singles match at any level in WWE and it seemed to be his official debut on the main roster. Such a loss was quite the surprise and it seems that some people are not happy. According to Fightful Select, one unnamed wrestler said that they felt “a message was being sent” with Kross’ loss, though it was not clear what kind of message it was supposed to be. Some wrestlers are said to be annoyed for the NXT wrestlers..

More On Keith Lee’s Return To WWE Television

It took long enough. Every now and then, a WWE wrestler will go away for one reason or another. It could be for something physical, mental, creative or something else, though occasionally we don’t actually know what is going on. The latter is the case this time, but we got a pretty cool return this week on Monday Night Raw. Now we know a little bit more about what is going on. Keith Lee made his return to WWE television this week, wrestling his first match since since the February 8 Monday Night Raw. According to PWInsider.com, Lee’s return is not a one off appearance, meaning he should be back regularly. Lee has also been cleared to return and he was not being held off of television for a creative issue. There is no word on why Lee has been gone for the last five months, but he has said he will explain his absence when he can. Lee is a former NXT and North American Champion, having held both titles simultaneously in July 2020. Soon after losing the NXT Title to Karrion Kross, Lee wa..

The Confusing Case Of The Fiend Bray Wyatt

That clears things up. Sometimes you see a character in wrestling who catches your eye because there is no one like them. It might be for one reason or another but there is something about them that you have to watch. That is the case with a current WWE star, but he has not been around for a little while. Now we know a bit more about him, at least in a way. Bray Wyatt has not wrestled since WrestleMania 37 and has not been seen since the Monday Night Raw after the show. According to PWInsider.com, there is a specific reason for his absence, but it is not currently known what the reason it. While the reason is unknown, it is not believed to be a creative problem. Wyatt was originally planned to defeat Randy Orton at WrestleMania 37 but the plan was changed at the last minute. The match is Wyatt’s only of the year to date. Wyatt is a crazy talented wrestler. WWE News: Why Reginald Won The 24/7 Title, Future Plans For Him

There’s a reason for that. The last week of WWE shows have been among the most eventful in recent memory as fans have returned to the arenas for the first time in about fifteen months. That is a long time to go without anyone in the arena and it is great to have them back. WWE has been trying to do some things to make the shows more interesting and now we know a bit more about why. This week on Monday Night Raw, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler split from Reginald, who immediately went on to win the 24/7 Title. According to PWInsider.com, WWE’s play is to present Reginald as a babyface going forward. The idea is that Reginald has a unique set of skills which could be used as a way to boost the 24/7 division. Reginald debuted on WWE television in December 2020 and has served as a valet for Jax, Baszler and Carmella. This could be a change of pace. WATCH: NXT Announces Details For Next Takeover Special

Mark your calendars. WWE has been around for a long time and they know how to do the big shows. They have built their company around the idea of making you want to see the special events and making the cards feel that much more important. The same idea has worked in NXT as well, and now we know when to expect the next major show from the promotion. During this week’s edition of NXT, Takeover 36 was announced for Sunday, August 22 from the Capitol Wrestling Center in Orlando, Florida. This will be the day after Summerslam 2021, making it the first time that Takeover has aired the day after a major WWE pay per view. There have been no matches announced for the card as of yet. The most recent Takeover was Takeover: In Your House 2021, which took place on June 13, 2021. This should work. Interesting Update On Daniel Bryan’s WWE Status

Plans change? With so many wrestlers on the WWE roster, it can be hard to keep track of all of them. When you throw in the amount of wrestlers who have been let go from the company this year, things get all the more confusing. There are going to be some who catch your attention a bit more than others, but one of them might be on the way to a new home. Back on April 30, Daniel Bryan lost to Roman Reigns, forcing him to leave SmackDown. Bryan’s WWE contract has since expired, making him a free agent who has yet to hire anyone. According to PWInsider.com, Bryan is not listed on any internal WWE roster and is not expected to be included as a part of the upcoming Mattel action figure line. This could be a sign of something bigger. Bryan has not been mentioned backstage whatsoever lately, which has led some sources to believe that Bryan is either planning to sign or will sign with AEW. This is just speculation at the moment and there is nothing to guarantee that this is the case. AEW has m..
