WRESTLING RUMORS: How WWE Plans To Grow Its Younger Audience

October 10, 2021 • Admin

It’s a new direction. WWE has been having a problem with maintaining its audience for a very long time now and there is nothing to suggest that it is going to get any better anytime soon. At some point the company needs to come up with a way to make things better, which could come from a few different sources. Now it seems that they have an idea of what they’re going to do. According to Ringsidenews.com, WWE is attempting to build up its younger audience, in particular the 18-49 demographic. As a result, Vince McMahon is pushing for more swearing well as more revealing outfits for the female wrestlers. This has been the case on both Monday Night Raw and NXT, but it has not yet taken place on SmackDown, as FOX has a higher set of standards and practices. WWE has had its share of more adult content over the years. WATCH: Big E. Brings The Energy To FOX Big Noon Kickoff

October 10, 2021 • Admin

He’s kind of perfect for the job. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster today and some of them are going to be presented differently than others. Some of them are bigger stars and that means they are going to be out front for WWE, often appearing outside of the company’s programming to represent the company. That was the case this weekend in a special way. WWE Champion Big E. was a guest on this Saturday’s FOX’s Big Noon Kickoff college football coverage. Big E. was on the show to hype up the Penn State vs. Iowa football game, as he played defensive lineman at Iowa before entering professional wrestling. During his appearance, Big E. made a special entrance, did his signature catchphrase about Iowa and made a prediction on the game. This was pretty awesome. WWE May Have Blocked Another Promotion’s Important Streaming Deal

October 10, 2021 • Admin

It’s a complicated situation. There are a lot of moving parts in WWE as the company appears on multiple platforms on multiple television partners. Throw in the digital world as well and it can be complicated to keep track of everything. Now one of those partners isn’t pleased with what another has been doing and things are getting a little complicated from multiple sides. According to Fightful Select, Major League Wrestling was interested in airing its content on FOX’s Tubi streaming service and had a deal in place to do so. However, WWE objected to Tubi airing the content due to SmackDown airing on FOX, meaning the deal is in question. MLW and Tubi’s deal was supposed to be announced in August but nothing was ever officially announced. This isn’t great for MLW. Check out what you could have seen on Tubi: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I know this might not come off as the n..

October 9, 2021 • Admin

Welcome to the team. WWE is a huge wrestling promotion and has all kinds of wrestlers on its roster. As a result, the company has to find a way to get them better every week and the best way they have found to do that is through the Performance Center. The world class facility offers all kinds of resources, including a great training staff. That staff has grown again this week. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has hired Allison Danger as a new coach at the Performance Center. Danger is a retired wrestler who spent the majority of her career on the independent circuit, including spending several years in Shimmer. She retired from the ring in 2013, due to complications from a stroke, which causes lesions in her brain. Danger’s brother Steve Corino is also a coach at the Performance Center. VIDEO: AEW Presents Emotional Tribute After This Week’s Rampage

October 9, 2021 • Admin

It’s a special moment. There are certain cities that matter more in the wrestling world. They have a special history to them and fans know just how much it means to the industry. As a result, you will often see wrestlers and promotions pay some special attention to them. That is what happened this week, as both a city and the company most closely associated with it received a tribute. This week’s editions of AEW Dynamite and Rampage took place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the former home of ECW. AEW has released a video from after this week’s wrestling tapings, featuring AEW President Tony Khan bringing out former ECW stars Taz, Chris Jericho, Dean Malenko and Jerry Lynn to speak about ECW. After Taz praised the fans and the promotion, CM Punk came to the ring to say he felt left out because he was the ECW Champion as well. Punk also praised the wrestlers and said that he thought it would be funny to pop in before leaving the rest to continue talking. It was a special moment. Check..

WWE Officially Confirms Hell In A Cell Match

October 9, 2021 • Admin

There’s your other big one. Later this month, WWE is returning to Saudi Arabia for the first time in over a year and a half. The Saudi Arabia shows are some of the more controversial shows that WWE presents but the cards are certainly stacked. This show already has a huge card, but now things are getting even bigger, with the company’s top specialty match being added. WWE has confirmed that Edge will face Seth Rollins in a Hell in a Cell match at Crown Jewel on October 21. The match was announced this week on SmackDown, as Rollins challenged Edge and allowed him to pick the stipulation. Edge picked Hell in a Cell to end the show but no date was announced. Edge has lost his only appearance inside the Cell while Rollins is 1-1-1 in three matches. There is a lot to this one. VIDEO: The Undertaker Chops A Fan At Event

October 9, 2021 • Admin

Does that count as coming out of retirement? Wrestlers walk away from wrestling all the time, but it is pretty rare to see them actually stay gone. There is something about the industry that keeps wrestlers coming back that may not be the best thing. It is rare to see someone actually stay away, though one legend seems to be having some wrestling related fun in retirement. A video has been posted to TikTok showing the Undertaker chopping a fan at some sort of a reception in Savannah, Georgia. It is not clear when the video was taken. The fan requests that Undertaker chop him and Undertaker eventually does so, following a chant of CHOP from the onlookers. The fan falls down from the chop but does not seem to be in any kind of pain. Undertaker last wrestled at WrestleMania 36 in 2020. Undertaker has done some interesting things in his career. Check out the video plus some more of his funny moments: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

WATCH: The Rock Drops Rap In New Music Video

October 9, 2021 • Admin

He needed another career. There have been a lot of stars in wrestling history but there has not been anyone like the Rock. He went from a huge wrestling star to the biggest star in wrestling to the biggest star in Hollywood, which is beyond what anyone could have really expected from him. Rock has become an entertainment titan and now he is venturing into another area. The Rock is featured in a new music video from Tech N9ne where he raps the final verse of the song. The song, called Face Off, also features Joey Cool and King Iso. This is Rock’s first ever recorded rap, though he did record a song called Pie for a WWF Music CD in 2001. There is no word on if Rock will be venturing further into music or if this is a one shot appearance. Of course he’s doing something else. Cehck out the song, plus Rock’s other musical efforts: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not a rap fan ..

WWE Star Returning To The Ring For First Time In Over A Year

October 9, 2021 • Admin

One more time? Every now and then, a wrestler may have to take some time away from the ring for one reason or another. This could be anything from an injury to some kind of storyline issue, but sometimes it is something that has nothing to do with wrestling. That is the case with a current WWE star, but it seems that she will be getting back in the ring rather soon. This week on SmackDown, WWE executive Sonya Deville announced that she will be facing Naomi on next week’s show. The announcement comes after Deville has refused to allow Naomi to wrestle in recent weeks, though Deville refused to face her. Should the match take place, it will be Deville’s first since Summerslam 2020, as she has taken time away from the ring as the legal fallout from a home invasion works its way through the courts. It has been awhile. Check out Deville’s time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] O..

REVIEW: International Showdown: A Forgotten All Star Classic

October 9, 2021 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? International Showdown Date: March 19, 2005 Location: Coventry Skydome, Coventry, England Attendance: 3,400 Commentators: Dean Ayass, Eamon D’Arcy So this is a British independent show that was recommended to me and it sounded worth a look. There are a bunch of names on the card and some of the matches do sound good. Several of them are from TNA so there will at least be some star power on the show. Let’s get to it. This was presented by the Wrestling Channel, which sounds like quite the awesome concept. Johnny ..

Controversial Former WWE Star Says He Is Returning To The Company

October 9, 2021 • Admin

That would be a surprise. There have been a lot of wrestlers in WWE over the years and some of them don’t leave the biggest impression. Some certainly do, though not all oft hem are the most positive. You will see some wrestlers who pop up, make a bit of noise, and then fall out of favor with the company in a huge way. One such wrestler is claiming that he is getting another chance. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, former WWE Champion Alberto Del Rio has been telling people that he will be returning to the company following his current legal issues. Del Rio, 44, is currently set to stand trial on October 25 for sexual assault. During his two stints in WWE, he is a former four time World Champion, as well as winning the Royal Rumble and Money in the Bank. There is no word on WWE having any interest in bringing Del Rio back. You might need to get to know him again. Check out some of Del Rio’s time in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains v..

Newly Signed WWE Star Missing Due To Coronavirus

October 9, 2021 • Admin

That would explain it. The Coronavirus pandemic has changed the way the world works and the wrestling industry has been no exception. There have been all kinds of changes to wrestling since the pandemic began and some of them are still being felt today. While things are a lot better, there are still some problems which can arise, and that has been the case again with a promising star. October 9, 2021 • Admin

Rampage Date: October 8, 2021 Location: Licouras Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Commentators: Excalibur, Taz, Chris Jericho We’re still in front of one of the hottest crowds of the year and that should do a lot of good for the card. This is another stacked show as we have CM Punk vs. Daniel Garcia, the Tag Team Titles on the line and the Brian Cage challenging Ricky Starks for the FTW Title in a street fight. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. We start with Mark Henry’s split screen interview. Daniel Garcia and 2.0 say that CM Punk walked away from wrestling when the focus wasn’t all on him anymore but now he’s back to get the attention. Punk isn’t worried about that and is here to face Garcia because of his skill. Oh and 2.0 are like the Nasty Boys’ little brothers. CM Punk vs. Daniel Garcia 2.0 is here with Garcia. Update On WWE’s Plans For Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns

October 9, 2021 • Admin

We could be here for a bit. There are certain feuds that feel like they go on for a long time but it is easy to see why that is the case. Sometimes you see a feud which just works so well that it is hard to stop running the thing. If you can spread the matches out long enough, it does not seem like such a bad idea and that might be the case again with a major WWE feud. The main event for this month’s WWE Crown Jewel pay per view will see Roman Reigns defend the Universal Title against Brock Lesnar. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the plan is to have the feud continue beyond just one show. The two are expected to “get a lot more time” and likely some rematches, though it is not clear when they will take place. This is quite the rivalry. Check out some of their bigger moments together: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This shouldn’t be the biggest surprise and th..

SmackDown Results – October 8, 2021

October 9, 2021 • Admin

Smackdown Date: October 8, 2021 Location: SAP Center, San Jose, California Commentators: Michael Cole, Pat McAfee We’re done with the Draft, though we still have a few weeks before we switch over to the new roster. Until then we have Crown Jewel in less than two weeks, which is likely to get a lot of the focus tonight. Since it’s WWE, we also have a contract signing to deal with tonight. Let’s get to it. We open with the contract signing, with Bianca Belair in the ring, Sasha Banks on the announcers’ table and Becky Lynch at her own table in the aisle. Becky doesn’t think much of Belair, who she beat in 26 seconds and Banks, who looks like a disco ball. Banks thinks Becky is jealous because she’s a bigger star than the two of them. Belair doesn’t want to hear it and just wants to get the contract signed. Becky gets her attention so Banks runs in to jump Belair, meaning the brawl is on. That just lets Belair put them both in the KOD but she can’t flip them over. Instead she puts Bank..

WWE’s Ambitious Plans For Gable Steveson

October 8, 2021 • Admin

We’ll call those lofty goals. It is rare to see someone who comes off like a true prodigy in wrestling. When you do find one though, it can make for a very special situation because you see them flying up the charts in the blink of an eye. There have not been very many of them over the years and now WWE might have another one on their hands. It turns out they have some big plans for him too. During this year’s WWE Draft, Gable Steveson was drafted to Monday Night Raw despite not yet wrestling a professional match. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE plans to have Steveson become a regular after college wrestling season ends in March. The current plan is to have Steveson make his in-ring debut at WrestleMania. There is no word on when he will be making his first appearance on WWE TV. Steveson could be a star. Bad Sign For NXT’s Relationship With WWE Higher Ups

October 8, 2021 • Admin

Call it a communication issue. There have been a lot of changes taking place in WWE over the last few months and there is nothing to suggest that they are going to stop anytime soon. That can make for some interesting moments, but ultimately things have not exactly been pleasant. It feels like there are multiple people in charge at once and now it seems that communication continues to be an issue. Several NXT names moved up to the main roster during the 2021 WWE Draft, including the entire Hit Row stable. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the call had been made to move the team up days before the Draft, but NXT was not told about the impending move. This was the case with all of the NXT moves, which also included Ridge Holland, Austin Theory, Xia Li and Aliyah They need to work on this. Instead Jinny twists her down by the arm and puts on an Iron Octopus for the always cool sounding hold. Now it’s off to a..
