January 13, 2022 • Admin

During the latest episode of his What Happened When podcast, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone announced that he has signed a two year contract extension with the company. With the extension, Schiavone will be with AEW through the middle of 2024. Schiavone does commentary on Dynamite and Dark: Elevation, along with the company’s pay per view events. REVIEW: Royal Rumble 2000: The Sequel Is Better

January 12, 2022 • Admin

Royal Rumble 2000 Date: January 23, 2000 Location: Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York Attendance: 19,231 Commentators: Jerry Lawler, Jim Ross This is the first of the two redos of the year and you picked a good one. What we have here is one of the better one two punches in WWF history, as it’s a double main event. Of course there is the Rumble, but we also have Cactus Jack vs. HHH for the WWF Title in a street fight, which should work out fairly well. Let’s get to it. The opening video looks at some of Cactus Jack’s most violent moments over the years, with HHH still thinking he knows what he is getting into. Some of the Japanese deathmatch stuff here is rather insane looking and wasn’t something you would see on WWF (or American) TV at the time (or in modern times either really). The set is really cool, as it has the entrance opposite the hard camera. There is a taxi hanging over the aisle, which is painted like a street for the street fight. Remember when they put in a..

KB’s Review: We Lost The Food Fight

January 12, 2022 • Admin

I’ve been watching wrestling for a pretty long time now and it is rare that things really get to me in a negative way. Of course there are bad parts to almost every show, but most of them come and go without too much trouble. That is not always the case though and unfortunately we saw something like that again this week. To make it even worse, it was the second similar instance in just a few weeks. Back in November, Charlotte hit Toni Storm in the face with a pie. It was the night after Thanksgiving and WWE felt the need to have a Thanksgiving Leftovers match earlier in the show. Charlotte and Storm came out, with Charlotte hitting her in the face with the pie. Since this is modern WWE, Storm stood there and took it, only to come back the next week with a pie to Charlotte. Then Charlotte beat her up twice in a row and Storm left the company, probably because she just lost a feud that started with a pie being shoved into her face. Now that was bad enough, but at least it was designed ..

WWE Being Sued By Major League Wrestling Over Anti-Trust Claims

January 12, 2022 • Admin

That could be a big deal. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that has been the case for a very long time. It is fair to say that it holds a monopoly over the industry, which has made it difficult for another promotion to truly rise up. Things have changed a bit though, and now another promotion is not exactly happy with how WWE runs things. Major League Wrestling (MLW) has issued a press release, by way of 411mania.com, announcing that they are suing WWE over antitrust issues. The suit claims that WWE has disrupted a potential streaming deal for the company, as well as attempted to keep them off of Vice TV because Vince McMahon did not want their content on the network. MLW claims that the streaming deal would have been “transformative” for the company. PWInsider.com has obtained a copy of the lawsuit, which accuses WWE of violating the Sherman Antitrust Act. WWE is also accused of using anticompetitive business practices to maintain its dominan..

WWE Bringing In Two More Former Stars For Royal Rumble

January 12, 2022 • Admin

They need more people. We are less than a month away from the Royal Rumble and the show’s two thirty person Royal Rumble matches are starting to fill up. There are only so many people on the active WWE roster to fill in those spots, meaning they might need to bring in some replacements. Now we might know who two more of those people are going to be. According to PWInsider Elite, Cameron and Melina are likely returning to WWE to compete in the women’s Royal Rumble. Should the two of them be included, they would bring the total entrants in the women’s match 21, leaving nine spots remaining. There is nothing to indicate that either would be more than a one off appearance. Cameron and Melina’s most recent WWE matches took place in 2016 and 2011 respectively. This could be an important move for the match. Check out what the two can do in the ring and what a women’s Royal Rumble looks like: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post ..

WATCH: AJ Styles Isn’t Done After This Week’s NXT Ended

January 12, 2022 • Admin

They aren’t quite done. WWE gets a lot of television time every single week and a lot of it is spent on the matches themselves. There is quite a bit more to it than that though, as wrestling often involves a good deal of talking. Sometimes that is the most important thing that you can see, and that is why there was more talking to be said after one of this week’s TV shows ended. WWE has released a video from after this week’s edition of NXT went off the air, showing AJ Styles and LA Knight in the ring. Styles praised Knight for being a great star in NXT, with Knight saying that he was just getting started with Grayson Waller and praising Styles for defeating him. This week’s show was headlined by Styles defeating Waller and Knight returning after missing a few weeks due to Waller attacking him. It was a busy night. Check out what happened after the show, and how it ended: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vide..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Injury Takes Place Before This Week’s NXT

January 12, 2022 • Admin

That’s never good to hear. Injuries are one of the true constants in wrestling as any wrestler can be hurt at any time. It can make for some terrible moments, as you might see someone go down after almost nothing seemed to be going wrong. There have been several in recent weeks, and now we have another one with a slightly bigger member of a roster. According to Wrestlingnews.co, fans in attendance have reported that Odyssey Jones was injured during a match for this week’s 205 Live. While the nature of his injury was not disclosed, the match included a “weird” finish and Jones was helped to the back. Jones’ most recent televised appearance took place on the December 28 edition of NXT, when he lost to Grayson Waller. Jones is quite the force. Check out what he can do in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: That is never good to hear and hopefully Jones is not in bad shape...

WATCH: WWE Star Releases A New Music Video

January 12, 2022 • Admin

It’s a different career. There are all kinds of wrestlers under the WWE banner and every one of them is talented in some way. Some of them are talented in more than one way and that can make for some interesting situations as you see what they can do outside of the ring. There have been wrestlers who have been doing their other things for years, and now we are seeing something new. Monday Night Raw’s R-Truth, under his real name Ron Killings, has released a music video for his new single “Out The Window”. The song is the second single off of his album Legacy, which was released in December. The video features an animated version of R-Truth doing various things, such as rapping in a studio, arm wrestling a monster and dancing on a car. Another Major Change In NXT Leadership And Creative

January 12, 2022 • Admin

It’s all about control. WWE is a huge company and has varying levels of authority. While Vince McMahon has the final say in everything, there are several people beneath him with various responsibilities. Some of those are rather important names, and now two of them will be taking charge of something rather big, which we can see every single week on television. According to PWInsider.com, Bruce Prichard and Christine Lubrano (Senior Vice President of Creative Writing Operations) will now officially oversee NXT’s creative, as is the case with Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. Johnny Russo will serve as NXT’s head of creative after serving as lead writer since July 2020. This comes after most of Triple H’s creative team was let go from the company last week in the latest round of releases. There are three of the same. Check out all of the shows Prichard and Lubrano oversee: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, ..

Moving On Up: Two NXT Stars May Be On Their Way To The Main Roster

January 12, 2022 • Admin

They could be on their way up. There have been a lot of changes in WWE over the last year and those changes seem to be continuing. NXT has seen some of the biggest changes of them all, as several of its wrestlers have been released from the company. That does not leave a lot of depth on the roster, but things might be about to get even weaker still, as some big names could be leaving. According to Wrestlinginc.com, NXT’s Tommaso Ciampa and Pete Dunne were both in action on this week’s edition of Main Event. While not confirmed, this could suggest that the two of them are on their way to the main roster. Ciampa lost the NXT Title to Bron Breakker last week, while Dunne was defeated by Tony D’Angelo on this week’s show. They have both been wrestling on recent WWE live events. Those are some talented people. Check out who might be coming to the main roster: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

NXT Results – January 11, 2022

January 12, 2022 • Admin

NXT Date: January 11, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett We’re officially in a new era, as Bron Breakker won the NXT Title last week at New Year’s Evil. That is the kind of change you do not see take place very often and now we get to see what happens with Breakker as the star of the show. We should be in for some good stuff, which is long overdue around here. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Bron Breakker winning the NXT Title. Here is Breakker to get things going. The title looks good around his waist but the fans are split on whether or not he deserves it. Breakker thanks Tommaso Ciampa for being a great champion and a respectable human being. Last week, Ciampa told him it was his time and went over to shake his father’s hand. We don’t have any days off around here though so if anyone wants some, come get it. Just remember that if you come in to train, he’s already trained. If you’re watching film, he’s alread..

Another Top AEW Star Reveals Coronavirus Diagnosis

January 11, 2022 • Admin

That’s never good to hear. The Coronavirus pandemic has shaken up the world in a huge way, including the professional wrestling industry. You regularly see wrestlers confirming their positive diagnoses and that is likely to be the case for the foreseeable future. That is never good to hear, and now we are hearing it again, with one of the bigger stars in wrestling today. Over the weekend, AEW’s Kenny Omega and Jim Cornette had a brief exchange on Twitter, with Omega mentioning Cornette in a response to a fan. Cornette responded, seemingly not taking kindly to Omega bringing him up. Omega responded as well, apologizing for his comments and revealing that he has tested positive for the Coronavirus. There is no word on Omega’s health at the moment, but he has been out of action since November due to a variety of injuries. Will you bump up Corny’s oxygen so he can maybe get through a podcast without wheezing through every word? It’s harsh on the ears from what a I hear — Kenny Omega (@K..

REVIEW: Monday Night Raw – January 11, 1993: It Starts

January 11, 2022 • Admin

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Monday Night Raw Date: January 11, 1993 Location: Manhattan Center, Manhattan, New York Commentators: Vince McMahon, Rob Bartlett, Randy Savage This is the first ever Monday Night Raw, making it the start of the most important weekly wrestling show ever. It’s also not the best time for the company, as things are getting rather dull as we move towards the 1993 Royal Rumble. Bret Hart is WWF Champion but there is a certain monster called Yokozuna on the horizon. Let’s get to it. Sean Mooney is on the streets of Ma..

VIDEO: Another WWE Tag Team Splits As One Member Turns On The Other

January 11, 2022 • Admin

So much for that. Tag Teams have a weird history in WWE. They have been around for a long time throughout the company’s existence, but they also have been known to be split up in a hurry. These splits can cause quite the issues at times, often leading into a feud between the former partners. That seems to be the case again, as another team has gone their separate ways. This week on Monday Night Raw, Rhea Ripley and Nikki Ash split up to officially end their team. The split came after the team had lost several matches, along with their WWE Wome’s Tag Team Titles. Ash believed that Ripley felt she was better and, after a hug between the two, attacked Ripley. After leaving the ring, Ash said that superheroes did not need friends. This got serious in a hurry. Check out how the split happened, plus the two in action on their own: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is long, long ..

The Men’s Royal Rumble Field Continues To Grow

January 11, 2022 • Admin

Next ones up. The Royal Rumble is less than three weeks away and that means it is time to start filling up the fields for the men’s and women’s matches. That can make for a busy batch of additions, with WWE occasionally throwing names out in big bunches. The women’s match is mostly filled in, but now the men’s lineup has gotten quite a boost of its own. Three more entrants were announced for the men’s Royal Rumble match on Monday. This included Damian Priest and AJ Styles who announced their entries before Monday Night Raw went on the air. Then during the show, Big E. announced his entrance as well. These three names bring the total number of entrants to ten men. The women’s match currently has nineteen names announced. There is no word on how many names will be announced in advance of both matches. There have been some great moments in Royal Rumble history. Check out some of the best: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post..

Former WWE Star Debuts For Impact Wrestling, Stretchered Out Due To Injury *SPOILERS*

January 11, 2022 • Admin

It’s a dangerous game. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to get hurt and unfortunately some of them can be a lot worse than others. You never know when someone could go onto the injured list for a long time, and there is no such thing as a good time for it to happen. Unfortunately it took place this week, and it came almost as fast as someone showed up in the first place. According to PWInsider.com, Charlie Haas made his Impact Wrestling debut at Sunday’s television tapings in Dallas, Texas. Haas was taking part in a match and was “knocked loopy” at some point, leading to him being legitimately stretchered to the back. Later in the night, Haas was said to be fine backstage but the situation was described as scary. Haas, 49 years old, is a regular on the independent circuit, mainly in Texas. Haas is a rather talented star. Check out what he can do in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, c..

WRESTLING RUMORS: Special Surprise Possible For WWE Royal Rumble

January 11, 2022 • Admin

You need some surprises. We are less than three weeks away from the Royal Rumble, which will feature two of the show’s namesake matches. That means sixty wrestlers will appear in the Royal Rumbles, with thirty men and thirty women taking part. Several of the wrestlers will be announced in advance, but that will not be the case for everyone. This may include one big surprise. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, WWE is considering bringing in at least one unexpected participant in the men’s Royal Rumble match. This would be someone brought in through the “Forbidden Door”, meaning a wrestler from another promotion. There is no word on who it would be or which promotion they would be coming from. WWE has already announced that Impact Wrestling Knockouts Champion Mickie James will participate in the women’s Royal Rumble. Had more than 1 source this weekend, w/o me directly asking, state they believe WWE will try for an “unexpected” forbidden door entrant for the Men’s Royal Rum..

New First Time Title Match Set For WWE Royal Rumble

January 11, 2022 • Admin

It’s time for a title shot. The WWE women’s division has come a very long way and what used to be little more than a joke is now one of the more important things in all of the company. Seeing one of the Women’s Titles on the line is now a big deal and we will get to see that again at the Royal Rumble, as we now have a brand new #1 contender to one of the championships. The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw featured Doudrop winning a triple threat match over Liv Morgan and Bianca Belair to become the new #1 contender to Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Title. Doudrop’s title match will take place at the Royal Rumble on January 29. The title match will be the first ever singles meeting between Lynch and Doudrop and her second ever Raw Women’s Title shot. This could be interesting. Check out how the title match was set up, plus the two of them in action: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..
