Hand it over. Winning a title can be the kind of change that makes all the difference in the world for a wrestler’s career. A wrestler becoming a champion for the first time often suggests that the promotion is moving them up to the next level and that there is some hope for your future. That being said, winning a title for the second time is an even more positive sign and that was the case this weekend.

This weekend at Survivor Series 2022, Austin Theory defeated Bobby Lashley and reigning champion Seth Rollins to become the United States Champion for the second time. Theory held the title for about two and a half months earlier this years, with Lashley and then Rollins taking it. The title win comes after Theory declared his intent to become more serious and violent.

It’s a dangerous sport. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to be written off of television and many of them can be used to advance a storyline. These can be in the form of another wrestler doing something to get rid of their rival, including attacking them rather violently. That happened twice this week and it has resulted in a wrestler being written onto the shelf.

This week’s SmackDown featured a backstage segment where Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler attacked Raquel Rodriguez and slammed her arm in an equipment case. Later in the night, Rodriguez teamed with Shotzi against Baszler and Rousey, both of whom did further damage to her arm. Shotzi announced that Rodriguez had suffered a broken arm and a dislocated elbow. There is no word on how long Rodriguez will be out of action, though there is nothing to suggest that this is anything but a storyline.

It’s time for Survivor Series and for the first time in years, there is a feeling of interest about the show. Instead of the completely dead in the water Raw vs. Smackdown Battle For Brand Supremacy, WWE has thrown their old ideas out the window and brought in a pair of WarGames matches. That alone should be enough to carry the show and….well there are only three more matches so WarGames is kind of carrying things. Let’s get to it.
AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor I would have bet on this being the elimination match but instead we’ll just have Judgment Day and the OC at ringside to make things more crowded. Then again, I think I can go with the idea of Balor vs. Styles on a major show and likely getting a lot of time. That being said, Styles hasn’t won a singles match on pay per view in something like three years, so there might not be so much drama.

Just him? There are very few wrestlers in the history of WWE on the same level as Brock Lesnar. Immediately upon his debut, Lesnar was presented as The Next Big Thing and he has been a monster in the company during his on and off career. It means something for a wrestler to be paired with Lesnar, but there is reportedly one name that he would not work with for some reason.

One of the feature matched at Survivor Series 2017 was AJ Styles vs. Lesnar in a battle of World Champions. Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to win the WWE Title less than a month before the match, following an announced match between Mahal and Lesnar. According to Road Dogg on his Oh You Didn’t Know podcast, Lesnar had no problem working with Mahal, but rather felt that he could have a better match with Styles. Family feud? The last two plus years in WWE have been all about Roman Reigns. With one of the longest World Title reigns in history, there is no way of knowing how long it will be before Reigns finally loses his title. Several names have wanted to get in on the Reigns train, and now we are seeing another member a very prominent wrestling family throwing his hat into the ring.

During the second season of the Young Rock series, the Rock’s character teased a future WrestleMania match with Reigns. This match has been rumored for WrestleMania 39 in April 2023, though nothing has been confirmed. In a new interview with Wrestlinginc.com, Chavo Guerrero, who works on Young Rock, said that he would love for some people from the show, including himself, to be part of the match. That could be a lot worse. One of the worst things about an injury is wondering how long someone is going to be out of action. A wrestler can get banged up out of nowhere and need to go on the shelf for awhile, but the question becomes just how long. It can be great news when something is nowhere near as bad as it seems and thankfully that seems to be what is happening with a WWE star.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: RKNo: Another Bad Randy Orton Injury Update
Earlier this month at WWE Crown Jewel, Logan Paul unsuccessfully challenged Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship. Following his loss, Paul revealed that he had suffered multiple knee injuries during the match. Paul has released a video on his YouTube page, announcing that he has suffered a torn MCL and will need a minimum six weeks to heal. Paul also revealed that he will be undergoing physical therapy and did not mention needing surgery. There is no word on when he will be returning to the ring.

That’s rather serious. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never know how bad something is going to be at first. Then comes the waiting, as you have nothing else to do but see just how long someone is going to be out of action. Sometimes that can be for a good while and in worse cases, it can be indefinite. Unfortunately an all time legend is dealing with the latter.
Back in May, Randy Orton left WWE TV to deal with a back injury and has not been seen since. According to Fightful Select, Orton underwent some sort of back fusion surgery at some point this year. WWE sources have reportedly said that the company will be lucky to have Orton back after his recovery. However, when he was initially injured, Orton said that he would be back at some point. There is nothing in the way of a guess about when Orton could return to the ring.

It’s the go home show for Survivor Series and we have a big time main event. This week it’s the Usos vs. Sheamus/Drew McIntyre for the WarGames advantage and what wouldn’t surprise me as a big preview for a future Tag Team Title match. Other than that, we’ll find out the final member of Team Belair, so let’s get to it.
Team Damage Ctrl is in the ring to start and Bayley doesn’t want to waste any time. She wants to know who the fifth member of Team Belair is right now, so here is Team Belair in a hurry. It’s Thanksgiving and that means we are in for a special Best Of show around here. That’s about as logical as you’re going to get for this time of year as there is no reason to believe that anyone is going to pay attention to a show on such a big holiday. You never know what you’ll see on something like this but let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
The hosts welcome us to the show and promise us some great Thanksgiving moments, plus a look at Overdrive.
We’ll start with Thanksgiving 2008, with Rhino pinning Alex Shelley in a triple threat match also involving Sheik Abdul Bashir. As a result, Rhino gets $25,000 and Shelley has to wear a turkey suit, as enforced by Mick Foley with threats of firings/bad history lessons.

And she makes five. There are several ways to present a wrestler in a new way and some of them can be a lot of fun. One of the best ways is to have someone come back as a surprise after several weeks if not months away. Sometimes a star’s return is built up a long time in advance but others come out of nowhere. The latter was the situation this week in a special way.

This Saturday, WWE will present its annual Survivor Series event, which will be headlined by a pair of WarGames matches. The men’s match was entirely set last week on SmackDown, but the women’s match still had one more spot to fill coming into this week’s SmackDown. This week’s show opened with Team Belair introducing the returning Becky Lynch as its fifth member. Lynch has been out of action since Summerslam with a separated shoulder, suffered in a match against Belair.

That would be a big one. We are coming close to the end of the year and that means WWE should already be planning for the next year, including WrestleMania 39. The show will be held on the grand stage in Los Angeles, California and that means WWE is going to need to pull out all the stops to make the show feel huge. They already might be planning for a clash of the titans.
According to Xero News on Twitter, WWE is considering a match between Brock Lesnar and Intercontinental Champion Gunther at WrestleMania 39. There is no word on if the Intercontinental Title would be up for grabs, as Gunther could lose the title by then or wrestle in a non-title match. There is nothing to confirm that the match has been set for the show and this is only a discussion at the moment.
