This can take time, but the effort is worth it in the end. WWE presents angles like this from time to time and they did it again this weekend, with the reaction from the crowd being quite the sight to behold.

The main event of this weekend’s Royal Rumble saw Roman Reigns retain his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship over Kevin Owens. Following the match, the Bloodline attacked Owens, with Reigns telling Sami Zayn to attack Owens. Instead, Zayn turned on Reigns by hitting him with a chair. The rest of the Bloodline attacked Zayn, save for Jey Uso, who walked away from the beating to end the show.

It’s time to get on the Road To Wrestlemania and that means we should be in for a big night. There are two Royal Rumbles, but the real main event is probably Roman Reigns defending the World Title against Kevin Owens. The interesting piece there is not in the result, but in what Sami Zayn is going to do. That should make for a heck of a show so let’s get to it.

This weekend, WWE presented its annual Royal Rumble event. The show opened with the Men’s Royal Rumble match, which saw Gunther enter at #1 and set a new longevity record for the match. Gunther lasted 1:11:25, breaking Rey Mysterio’s record of 62:12 set in 2006. Commentary did make it clear that Gunther’s record was in traditional Royal Rumble matches, as Daniel Bryan lasted 74:12 in the Greatest Royal Rumble in 2018, though that match had 50 entrants compared to the traditional 30. Pat McAfee made his surprise return to the WWE commentary team this weekend at the Royal Rumble. McAfee was brought out before the first match began and joined Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary. This ended a four month hiatus for McAfee, who took a leave of absence from the SmackDown commentary team to join ESPN’s College Gameday team.

Believe that. Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was recently a guest on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where he discussed a number of topics. The biggest was the rumors circulating that he would be facing The Rock at WrestleMania.
Below is what Reigns had to say:
“That’s been the rumors — there’s been a huge buzz on that for a long time now. I mean for years now. But it’s really picked up in the last couple of years.
“I believe he just came out with a statement saying that he’s not gonna be ready in time, which — that’s the kind of face everyone’s making, like, ‘Hold on, he trains every single day… He’s huge!’

We’re still in Kentucky and in this case that means it’s time for Hangman Page to face Wheeler Yuta on his way to next week’s showdown with Jon Moxley. Other than that, Jamie Hayter is in a Women’s Title eliminator match and we should be in for a treat there. The show continues to be up and down, but maybe they can make it work this week. Let’s get to it.
Opening sequence.
Hangman Page vs. Wheeler Yuta Yuta knocks him into the corner to start and hammers away. The Octopus has Page in early trouble before Yuta switches to the legs. They trade slaps to the face until Yuta bridges back into a leglock. Page fights up and knocks Yuta down for a change and a fall away slam sends Yuta to the apron. There’s the springboard clothesline to send him outside, setting up a slingshot dive.
Page sends him back inside where Yuta hits a very fast dive of his own…

There’s a reason for that. There are certain wrestlers who bring a star power into the company that cannot be manufactured. Whether it is success elsewhere, a natural charisma or success in another field, that wrestler feels like they are something special and the fans often notice. The promotion can as well, and now that star power is preventing someone from being on a show.

Ronda Rousey lost the SmackDown Women’s Title to Charlotte in an impromptu title match on the December 30, 2022 SmackDown. Rousey has not been seen on WWE TV since, leading to speculation about her future with the company. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Rousey is not booked for the Royal Rumble as WWE did not want to waste her star power on the show. If Rousey is not winning the Women’s Royal Rumble or being the focal point of the match, WWE does not want to use her in it. There is no word on w..

There is more to it than that. Sadly, one of the biggest wrestling stories of the year so far has been the death of Jay Briscoe last week due to a car crash. The wrestling world has poured out tribute after tribute to Briscoe, including a special match this week on Dynamite with his brother Mark defeating Jay Lethal. It was the first time a Briscoe appeared on AEW TV and now we know a bit more about why.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Happened Again: Another AEW Star Out Of Action With An Injury
The main reason the Briscoes were not allowed on AEW TV was a series of homophobic tweets that Jay sent out in 2011-2013. However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, in addition to the tweets, Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD) did not want the Briscoes on AEW TV due to their use of the Confederate flag earlier in their careers. AEW’s contract with WBD also possibly gave WBD to ban anyone from an AEW event, which prevented the Briscoes from appearing on AEW pay per views despite Tony Kha..

Not quite the same. The biggest wrestling story of the year thus far has been Vince McMahon’s return to WWE. McMahon more or less forced his way back to control of the company and the question remains what kind of impact that is going to have on WWE. There are several questions left to be answered, but now we do know that one major thing about McMahon seems to have changed.

Earlier this week, a new report revealed that McMahon had returned to his office at Titan Towers. However, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, McMahon is now working shorter hours than his original time with the company. McMahon was notorious for working incredibly late into the night but now is said to leave at a “normal” time as he is only working on selling the company. There is nothing to indicate that McMahon has had any hand in WWE creative since his return.

She had a reason. WWE has been undergoing a lot of changes in recent months and most of them involve people named McMahon. One of these is Stephanie McMahon, who retired from the company and very well may never be back. This comes as her father Vince is taking over WWE again, and now we know a bit more being Stephanie’s thought process that led to her decision.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the word going around WWE is that Stephanie left the company before she could be demoted. With Vince back in control of the company, there was no reason to believe that she would remain as co-CEO. Stephanie had already attempted to go on a hiatus in 2022 and had already decided and did not need the job or money. There is nothing to suggest that Stephanie will be returning to WWE.
