Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be?

Sometimes you need to get away from weekly TV and do some good(ish) old fashioned Coliseum Video. That’s what we have here, with another compilation tape released in July 1991. You never know what you might get on here but that can make for some interesting watches. Let’s get to it.

He’s good in the role. There have been almost countless wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and a good many of them do not make the biggest impact. A small number do manage to become stars though and some of those move on to become some of the biggest names in wrestling history. WWE still manages to have some of them appear from time to time, and that will be the case again next week.

Over the last several weeks, NXT’s Grayson Waller has been having issues with WWE official Shawn Michaels. Waller has constantly berated Michaels and caused him one problem after another. Last week on NXT, Waller issued a challenge for Michaels to meet him on the Grayson Waller Effect at Roadblock on March 7. This week, Michaels said that while he knew Waller would only get worse and that it was against his better judgment, he would appear on the show.

Welcome back. A wrestler returning from an injury can be one of the more exciting things to take place on a wrestling show. If someone has been gone for a long time, it can be quite the moment to have them back. You never know when you might see someone pop back up, and sometimes they are thrown right into the middle of something important. That was the situation this week.

This week’s edition of NXT opened with North American Champion Wes Lee issuing an open challenge for a title match, with the first wrestler getting into the ring getting the shot. Dabba-Kato almost made it to the ring first but Apollo Crews cut him off, allowing the returning Nathan Frazer to get inside for the title shot. This was Frazer’s first match since Halloween Havoc on October 22, 2022. Back on November 8, Frazer revealed that he was waiting on medical clearance from an undisclosed injury. We are about a month away from Stand & Deliver and the card is starting to take shape. While nothing has happened yet and Roadblock is next week, you can probably figure out a lot of what is coming. One thing that is not entirely clear is what will be going on with Shawn Michaels and Grayson Waller, but maybe we can find out some more tonight. Let’s get to it.
We open with a huge brawl of people trying to get to the ring to answer Wes Lee’s open challenge for a North American Title shot. Dabba-Kato almost makes it in but Apollo Crews jumps him. Nathan Frazer returns and gets inside for the title shot.
North American Title: Nathan Frazer vs. Wes Lee Lee is defending. Frazer headlocks him down to start and holds him there for a good bit. That’s broken up and Lee nips to his feet for a standoff. Lee takes Frazer down but they’re right back up with lee being sent outside…

That explains some things. There are all kinds of reasons for a wrestler to be out of the ring and a good number of them are health related. If someone is injured, there is very little that they can do to get back in the ring without risking a much bigger problem. Such an injury can explain a lot of absences and now we know about another such injury that is preventing an expected return.

Back in May 2022, Naomi and Sasha Banks walked out on WWE vacating the Women’s Tag Team Titles in the process. While Banks has gone on to wrestle in New Japan Pro Wrestling under the name Mercedes Mone, Naomi has not been seen in wrestling. During a virtual signing with Golden Ring Collectibles, Ariane Andre, formerly known as Cameron and Naomi’s former tag partner, revealed that Naomi is recovering from shoulder surgery. There is no word on when the surgery took place or Naomi’s recovery time. It is ..

They did it again. There are all kinds of ways to write someone off of a wrestling television show, with an injury being one of the most common. Announcing that a wrestler is hurt can take a story in several ways, including the option of someone specific causing the injury. That is a favorite in NXT and now we have seen it again, with another wrestler being attacked.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Missing In Action: Speculation On Matt Riddle’s WWE Status
This week on NXT, Wendy Choo was attacked in the NXT parking lot by an unknown assailant. Katana Chance announced that Choo had been found in the parking lot, where she was seen holding her arm. There is no word on whether Choo will miss time, or when she will be back if she does. This comes about a month after Nikkita Lyons was attacked in the parking lot, after which she announced that she had torn her ACL and would be out of action for roughly a year.

That’s longer than expected. There are certain reasons that a wrestler has to be taken off of television at times and some of them are a lot more serious than others. Occasionally it is due to a health reason that needs to be addressed, meaning they need to go away for the time being. That seemed to be the case with a WWE star last year, but now things are getting a bit more complicated.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They Have A Point: WWE Reportedly Very High On This New NXT Star
Back in December 2022, Matt Riddle was written off of WWE TV by an attack at the hands of Solo Sikoa. This was reportedly done due to Riddle failing a drug test and entering rehab. Shortly after Riddle’s injury was announced on WWE TV, WWE said he would be out of action for six weeks, but over eleven weeks have passed since then. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, there is no word on why WWE is not using Riddle. It was speculated that they might not have anything for him for Wrestlemania or that WWE did not wa..

She has their attention. There are so many stars on the WWE roster that it can be difficult for someone to stand out. That isn’t even including the NXT roster, which has its own group of wrestlers who can do some very impressive things as well. It takes something special to stand out but now a certain star has caught the attention of WWE officials and her future is looking bright.

According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is “very very high” on Sol Ruca, viewing her as a potential star in the making. Ruca signed with WWE and reported to the Performance Center in March 2022, making her television debut in July, following her first ever match in June. Ruca’s finishing move, a backflip cutter out of the corner called the Sol Snatcher, went viral after she debuted it in December. There is nothing to suggest that she will be promoted to the main roster at any point in the near future.

They aren’t done yet. WWE has a lot of television time in any given week and they often fill it with a good deal of action. That is the best way to advance storylines, but there is often more stuff that needs to be done after the show is over. You will occasionally see something take place after the show is over, which was the case this week as the violence continued after Monday Night Raw.

WWE has posted a video to its YouTube page showing Piper Niven attacking Candice LeRae after Monday Night Raw. LeRae was talking about how important her win over Niven had been and was being asked about Nikki Cross’ involvement when Niven attacked. Niven also told LeRae that she was coming for Cross. Cross’ distraction allowed LeRae to roll up Niven for the pin earlier in the night.

What could have been. We are getting pretty far down the Road To WrestleMania 39 and that means things are starting to come together. You can see a lot of the matches that are planned for the show and there is little mystery left for most of the company’s bigger names. That does not mean that we are seeing the original lineup though, and now we know something else that was planned for the show.

According to Fightful Select, WWE had originally planned for John Cena to face Logan Paul at WrestleMania 39. However, around mid to late December, plans changed with the focus being more towards Cena vs. Austin Theory. There is no word on why WWE made the change and switched to Cena vs. Theory and Paul vs. Seth Rollins. Cena and Theory had seeds planted for a match when Cena made an appearance on Monday Night Raw in June 2022.

It’s been a fun ride. AEW has come a long way since its inception and a lot of that has been due to the roster it has put together. The company has been built on a mixture of veterans, up and comers and legends, all of whom have mixed into quite the lineup. Not everyone can stick around forever though, and now it seems that one of the names that has been around for a long time is taking her leave.

According to Fightful Select, Vickie Guerrero will be finishing up with AEW when he contract expires in July. There is nothing to suggest that there is any bad blood between the two sides and the decision was said to be mutual. Guerrero has been with AEW since April 2019 and has mainly worked as a manager, including for Nyla Rose and Marina Shafir. She has also worked on digital projects for the company.
