Ouch: NXT Star Out Of Action Indefinitely

•

It could be awhile. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the NXT roster and most of them are incredibly talented. It isn’t easy to make it onto NXT television and it means a lot to get a spot on the show. Therefore, it is kind of sad to see someone losing their spot, but in this case someone is leaving because they seem primed to come back in a big way, at least in theory. This week’s edition of NXT featured a match between Ridge Holland and Timothy Thatcher. Holland won the match, with a brawl breaking out after, involving Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch on Holland’s side and Tommaso Ciampa helping Thatcher. The numbers game got the better of Thatcher and Ciampa, with Holland hitting Thatcher in the arm with his baton. Holland also hit Thatcher in the throat, which left Thatcher down. NXT has since sent out a tweet saying that Thatcher will be out indefinitely due to the attack. There is no word on when Thatcher will return to NXT TV. MEDICAL UPDATE: Timothy Thatcher is out i..

WWE President Nick Khan Was Warned About AEW

•

They gave him a fair warning. Wrestling has changed a lot in the last two years, as we now have another large scale promotion in the United States. AEW has become a new platform for wrestling in America and things seem to be rolling along. WWE seems to have taken notice of them, though you rarely hear it from them. It does however seem that a pretty high level name in the company has heard a thing or two about it though. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE President Nick Khan was warned about AEW becoming competition before he accepted the position. It is not clear who told him this, but Khan was told that changes needed to be made to WWE to allow them to deal with AEW. During Khan’s tenure, about 100 wrestlers have been let go from WWE, ranging from former World Champions to NXT wrestlers. They may be right about competition. NXT Likely Dropping Title And Legend Going Forward

•

Back to the vault. Titles are one of the easiest things in the world, as you can have wrestlers put into any kind of a story with a title on the line and everything makes sense. That is the kind of thing that can make for some easy storytelling devices and it is certainly the case in NXT. However, it seems that they are not going to be having one of their titles going forward. Over the last few months, Cameron Grimes has been involved in a storyline with Ted DiBiase, who has brought in the Million Dollar Title. The story has seen Grimes lose a title match to LA Knight and eventually become Knight’s butler. Grimes would eventually earn DiBiase’s respect and become champion at Takeover 36. This week on NXT, Grimes gave the title back to DiBiase as he left the arena, suggesting that the title will not be part of NXT going forward. Grimes and DiBiase parted on good terms. The story has had some steps. Check out how we got here: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post cont..

NXT Live Coverage And Results – August 24, 2021

•

NXT Date: August 24, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Beth Phoenix, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph Takeover has come and gone and I have no idea what to expect next. Everything is about to be turned upside down around here and there is a good chance that we are going to be seeing something completely different going forward. That might be a good thing, but it is certainly going to be an eventful thing. Let’s get to it. Ted DiBiase and Cameron Grimes arrive and we follow them into the ring. DiBiase talks about how people have wanted to see what he wanted around here. He is here because he saw something in Grimes, who kept getting back up. That is why he is now the Million Dollar Champion, which the fans seem to like. Grimes talks about how DiBiase drove him nuts when he got here, which DiBiase says was a test. Instead of learning, Grimes got distracted by the money and the stuff, and now he has the accomplishment to back it up. At Takeover, the two of..

205 Live Results – August 20, 2021

•

205 Live Date: August 20, 2021 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Nigel McGuinness I think we can officially that we are now in the new 205 Live, which has nothing to do with weighing 205lbs and isn’t live. That could mean a few things and most of them seem to be positive. What matters here is putting on a show that is entertaining while not overstaying its welcome, which may or may not work. Let’s get to it. The show is in such a state of flux that it has lost its opening sequence. Andre Chase vs. Ikemen Jiro Chase sends him down to start and wants Jiro to bring it. That earns Jiro a hiptoss but he snaps off an armdrag to even things up a bit. Another hiptoss is countered into another armdrag to send Chase outside but he ties Jiro into the ring skirt to set up the beating. Back in and a neckbreaker gives Chase two and he pulls Jiro off the middle rope to cut off the comeback. The crossface chickenwing keeps Jiro down for a bit but he’s b..

Becky Lynch’s Likely Heel Run: Has WWE Killed The Man Gimmick?

•

Becky Lynch shocked the world when she returned to WWE and became the new SmackDown Women’s champion. The return came at August 21’s SummerSlam and the title win came after Lynch disposed of Bianca Belair with just two moves. WWE fans knew that The Man would come around eventually. But they perhaps couldn’t guess that she would come back in such a controversial fashion. Now that it seems Lynch is turning heel, does this mean the company is closing the book on The Man gimmick? [This post contains video, click to play] Lynch Rages Against The Machine The idea of Lynch turning heel at this point seems more than unlikely. After all, Becky was once the hottest star in WWE and that was thanks to The Man gimmick. She was tough, she was rebellious and as a result, she was over. Fans instantly responded to her change in attitude and it worked for her on every level. The anti-authority persona schtick typically does work, depending on who runs with it. Perhaps the best example of all time i..

WATCH: Baron Corbin’s Luck Is Turning Around

That’s a new direction. There are all kinds of ways to present a wrestling storyline and some of them are a lot more successful than others. The sign of a good one though is that it makes you want to keep watching and see what happens. Every now and then, you see one of these take place and that is the case again. Now we might be seeing a new direction for the storyline. Over the last few months, Baron Corbin has come across some hard times on WWE SmackDown. After losing his King’s Crown to Shinsuke Nakamura on June 18, Corbin has had one horrible stroke of luck after another. Corbin has lost his money, his car, his family and his home. That’s the next one. This year’s Summerslam has come and gone and the show was certainly eventful. There were a lot of surprises taking place on the show and perhaps the biggest one came at the end of the show when Brock Lesnar made his return after a nearly year and a half away. Lesnar seemed to be setting his sights on Roman Reigns, and now we know where this might be going. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE has changed their plans on the Lesnar vs. Reigns match. The original plans for the match would have seen it take place in 2023 at WrestleMania 39 but the plans are now up in the air. Update On John Cena’s Current And Future WWE Status

•

See you later. There are very few stars in wrestling history on the same level as John Cena. While he might not have always been the most popular star in the world, Cena certainly had his audience and WWE knew how to market him to those people. Cena is now seen as a living legend and is going to get some extra attention every time he is around. That just might not be taking place anytime soon. According to PWInsider.com, Cena is done with WWE for the time being, save for an already announced appearance at the September 10 SmackDown in Madison Square Garden in New York City. It is not clear when Cena will be back, as he will be filming Argylle for at least the next several months. Cena finished up with WWE at Summerslam, losing to Roman Reigns in a Universal Title match. Following the match, Cena posted a message to Twitter, thanking the fans and everyone involved for his latest run with WWE. Roman Reigns Wants More Of THIS WWE Superstar On TV

•

He wants more. There are a lot of stars on the WWE roster today but very few of them are near the top of the card. It takes something special to be the top star in WWE and the company has only had a handful of them. Roman Reigns currently fills in that spot and he has been doing some rather impressive things on SmackDown. Now though, he has a bit of a request. During a new interview with Ariel Helwani of BT Sports, Reigns mentioned that he would like to see more Sami Zayn on WWE television. Reigns praised Zayn, calling him someone who is talented in whatever he does. Reigns mentioned that Zayn may not look like a superstar but feels like your neighbor and is always good for a short conversation. WATCH: Long Time Tag Team Splits On Monday Night Raw, To Fight Next Week

•

So much for that. Tag team wrestling has been a part of wrestling for a very long time now and that is the case in WWE as well. However, WWE does not exactly have the best history when it comes to tag wrestling, as the company seems to like building teams up only to split them apart. That seems to be the case again, as another long term tag team broke up after a long time together. This week on Monday Night Raw, the Miz and John Morrison split up, officially ending their team. The split came after Morrison distracted the referee during Miz’s match against Xavier Woods, costing Miz the match. Miz attacked Morrison after the match and laid him out. Later in the night, Morrison said that the team was done and a match between the two of them was announced for next week’s show. Miz and Morrison have been a team since Morrison returned to WWE in 2020 after originally teaming together from 2007-2009. They are three time Tag Team Champions. It was a bad night. Historic Title Changes Take Place At NXT Takeover 36

Things are shifting a bit. We are in the middle of a very transitional period for NXT and that could make for quite the different future. That means things are going to be moving around in a bunch of new directions. Some of those changes could be made with a big match, perhaps in the form of some title changes, which is what happened during this weekend’s Takeover. There were four title matches during NXT Takeover 36 and three of the titles changed hands. First up, Cameron Grimes defeated LA Knight to win the Million Dollar Title. Had Knight won, he would have gained Ted DiBiase as his manager. Next, Ilja Dragunov defeated Walter, ending Walter’s record 870 day reign.
