Main Event Results – August 19, 2021

Main Event Date: August 19, 2021 Location: AT&T Center, San Antonio, Texas Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Byron Saxton It’s the go home show for Summerslam and that means we should be in for a completely run of the mill edition of Main Event. Hopefully the show winds up surprising me, as you never know what you might be seeing around here. I mean, save for the build to Summerslam of course. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Cedric Alexander vs. Jaxson Ryker Alexander charges at him to start and is knocked down in a hurry. Back up and Alexander kicks at the leg, only to get slammed down. A running headbutt connects, only to have Alexander come back with more shots to the leg, including in the corner. Alexander grabs a kneebar to keep Ryker down and there’s a leg twist to make it worse. Back up again and Ryker runs him over one more time, this time for two. A quick brainbuster gives Alexander two more but the springboard clothesline misses, allowing Ryker to grab the swinging Boss Man ..

New Rule Put In Place For AEW All Out

That could change things. The Coronavirus has shaken up the entire world and that is likely to continue to be the case for a long time to come. The wrestling world has certainly not escaped the changes, as there have been several adjustments made throughout the industry. Things have been getting back to normal, but one upcoming major show will be dealing with a change of its own. According to NBC Chicago, Illinois Governor J. B. Prtizker has issued a state wide indoor mask mandate regardless of someone’s vaccination status. This means that fans will be required to wear a mask at AEW All Out, which takes place on September 5 in Chicago, Illinois. There is no word on what will happen if a fan refuses to comply with the new mandate. AEW is worth the extra effort. Update On Chris Jericho’s AEW Contract Status

It might be a bit. AEW has come a long way in its time as a promotion, but that time has not been very long when you think about it. The company only ran its first show about two and a half years ago, meaning that they do not have the longest history in the world. There are some things they have not yet experienced, and now we know when one of those things is going to be taking place. This week on AEW Dynamite, Chris Jericho challenged Maxwell Jacob Friedman to a match at All Out with Jericho’s career on the line. Should Jericho lose, he has agreed to never wrestle for AEW again and move into a full time commentary role. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Jericho signed a three year deal in 2019 with a one year option, meaning that he will be with AEW until some point in 2023. Jericho has been a force in AEW. Ring Of Honor TV Results – August 18, 2021

Ring of Honor Date: August 18, 2021 Location: UMBC Center, Baltimore, Maryland Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Caprice Coleman We’re still in the middle of the Women’s Title tournament and the results have been hit and miss so far. As tends to be the case in a tournament with a bunch of unknowns, some of the matches have outshone the others, there have been a few that didn’t exactly offer much. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. We open with a recap of some previous round matches. Ian Riccaboni previews the dead. Holidead talks rather fast and seems angry about a lot of things. Max the Impaler is the next monster heel and has Amy Rose in her corner to promise violence in destruction. Women’s Title Tournament First Round: Max the Impaler vs. Holidead Holidead crawls around and shouts a lot to start and they trade some forearms to the face. Max shrugs off some clotheslines in the corner and sends Holidead flying. Holidead manages a slam but Max does the Undertaker situp to freak her ..

KB’s Review: In Other News: Wrestling Weekend Edition

We are officially done with one of the busiest wrestling weekends of the year (dubbed the Wrestling Weekend in a great show of creativity) and a lot went down. This weekend felt like it was Wrestlemania in the summer and that is not a bad thing. As tends to be the case in a weekend like this, I have either overlooked something or not gotten to talk about it enough. That’s what we’re doing this week, as I am going to look at some of the bigger, or in some cases more interesting, stories from the weekend. In this case that will include Rampage, Summerslam, Takeover 36 and Monday Night Raw, as you have to cut it off somewhere and there is a completely ridiculous amount of wrestling going on at the moment. Some of these stories will be bigger than others, but I limited myself to ten choices for the sake of cutting myself off somewhere. Let’s get to it. These are in no particular order. Some are positive and some are negative. Alexa Bliss vs. Charlotte Is Coming We’ll start with a harsh ..

Shakeup? WWE Pushing For A Change For Walter

I would want him too. WWE has one of the deepest rosters in the wrestling world and that allows them to do a few different things. If nothing else, it allows them to try out different wrestlers in different spots and see what they can do with them. Some of these possibilities can be rather interesting and now WWE seems to have something else in mind for their future plans. According to PWInsider.com, some people in WWE are attempting to get NXT UK’s Walter to be added to the NXT roster. This comes after Walter lost the United Kingdom Title to Ilja Dragunov at NXT Takeover 36, ending his two plus year reign. However, it is not known if this will take place, as Walter has previously made it clear that he has no desire to move to the United States. Walter would be pretty great in NXT. Check out what he has done in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure if Walter is ac..

Injury Takes Place During NXT Taping (Contains *SPOILER*)

That’s never good to hear. There are all kinds of problems that a wrestler can go through and several of them can be rather nasty. One of the worst is an injury, as you never know when someone could be put on the shelf for a long time. There are also injuries that are only part of a storyline, which does make things a little bit better. An injury of some kind seems to have taken place this week. According to Bodyslam.net, Mandy Rose was injured during this week’s NXT tapings. During a match against Sarray, Rose was dropkicked out to the floor and landed hard. As a result, her associates Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne carried Rose to the back, resulting in a countout loss. It is not clear if the injury is a storyline or a legitimate injury. There is no word on what kind of injury Rose suffered. This match will air on August 31. Rose has been improving in recent months. Check out some of her recent time: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] ..

REVIEW: Super ShowDown 2020: So Much For The Fiend

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Super ShowDown 2020 Date: February 27, 2020 Location: Mohammed Abdu Arena on the Boulevard, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Commentators: Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Byron Saxton We’re back in Saudi Arabia and for the first time ever, they’re on a streak of a good show. Last October’s Crown Jewel was a pretty good show, though I’m not sure what reason I would have to believe that will be the case again here. I’m not sure how the main event of Goldberg vs. the Fiend is going to go though and that’s a nice feeling. Let’s get t..

AEW Adds Three New Matches To All Out Card

The build is on fast. We are less than two weeks away from AEW’s latest pay per view with All Out and that is a good thing for wrestling fans. AEW has a very nice track record with its pay per view events and there is a strong chance that we could be in for another solid show this time around. There are still some matches to be added to the card though and AEW took care of them this week. AEW announced three new matches for All Out during this week’s edition of AEW Dynamite. One of the matches announced was a title match, as Women’s Champion Britt Baker will defend against Kris Statlander. Second, Jon Moxley sent an open contract to New Japan Pro Wrestling, with former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, AJPW Triple Crown Champion and NWA World Champion Satoshi Kojima accepting the challenge. Finally, Chris Jericho and Maxwell Jacob Friedman will face off in their final match. This comes after Jericho failed in the fifth Labor of Jericho on last week’s edition of Dynamite. As a result, Jerich..

Get The Paperwork Ready: WWE Making Effort To Re-Sign Star

Lock him up. One of the biggest changes taking place over the last few months has been the amount of wrestlers leaving WWE. Some of them have been thrown out the door due to budget cuts, but others have allowed their contracts to expire without signing a new deal with the company. WWE is going to be wanting to sign some wrestlers up, and now it seems they have a new target. According to Fightful Select, WWE is attempting to sign Pete Dunne to a contract extension, though it is not clear how long of a deal WWE is offering. There is no word on if Dunne has signed the deal or if he is interested in signing a new deal with the company. Dunne signed with WWE in 2017, though it is not clear when his current contract will expire. He is currently wrestling in NXT. Dunne is worth keeping around. SmackDown Personality Confirms Positive Coronavirus Test

It can happen to anyone. The Coronavirus has changed the way a lot of people live and that is going to be the case for a good while to come. While things have been getting a bit better due to the availability of vaccines, there are still thousands of cases every single day. Some of these have likely impacted the wrestling world, and now we know for sure that one of them has. SmackDown broadcaster Pat McAfee has announced that he has tested positive for the Coronavirus. McAfee said that he is fully vaccinated but he will be staying home for awhile. There is no word on who will be taking his spot on the SmackDown announce team or if anyone else in WWE has tested positive. McAfee called Summerslam with Michael Cole on Sunday. Fully Vax’d. Very Positive. Aht Indefinitely. It’s miserable but thankful that my wife and the boys at the office all took tests and they are all negative.. This is obviously a sign from the universe, probably telling me that I stink & to stay home for a while...

VIDEO: CM Punk Drops Huge Hint About Possible Future AEW Signing

That would be big. There are certain names in wrestling who are identified with a certain word or catchphrase. It becomes their signature calling card and it is hard to imagine anyone else saying the same thing. You know it when you hear it and just the hint at such a thing makes you know a person is on the way. That was the case this week, albeit with someone not there yet. CM Punk made his first AEW Dynamite appearance on this week’s show, taking part in an in-ring interview. During the interview, Punk asked the fans if they thought he still had what it took to be the best in the world. The fans repeatedly chanted YES, which is Daniel Bryan’s catchphrase. Punk said that that was someone else’s shtick, and the people needed to be patient for that just a bit longer. This would suggest that Bryan is coming to AEW, which has been rumored for several weeks. This could be big. Check out Punk’s promo, who might be coming to AEW and his history with Punk: [This post contains video, click ..

Top SmackDown Star May Be Heading To Monday Night Raw

Change it up? WWE has so many names on its roster that it has been forced to split things up into three different groups. As a result, WWE now has the three different rosters between Monday Night Raw, SmackDown and NXT. For the most part, these rosters stay the same throughout the year, but every now and then you might see a change. That might be the case coming up. According to Wrestlinginc.com, Edge may be moving to Monday Night Raw in the near future. Edge is currently listed as a Monday Night Raw star in certain sections of WWEshop.com, which could suggest that he will be changing brands. This has not been confirmed and Edge is still listed as a SmackDown star. WWE is expected to hold its annual Draft by the end of the year. Edge has a history on both shows. Bray Wyatt Has A Surprising Suitor For His Services

That would be a big get. The wrestling world has been shaken up in a big way over the course of the last few months as WWE has released several wrestlers from their contracts. In addition to leaving all kinds of holes in the WWE roster, it has also flooded the market with wrestlers who could be signed elsewhere. Now another company is interested in a pretty big name. Dave Meltzer appeared on a recent edition of the Sunday Night’s Main Event podcast and mentioned that Impact Wrestling was making a strong push to get Bray Wyatt into the company. However, Wyatt is not expected to sign with Impact Wrestling, as he is more likely to be heading to AEW. Wyatt was released on July 31, meaning that his 90 day no compete clause would allow him to appear elsewhere in late October. They should be interested. Adam Cole: The Next Undisputed AEW Star?

Adam Cole was defeated by former Undisputed ERA teammate Kyle O’Reilly at NXT TakeOver 36. The event took place on August 22. It marked the third time the two squared off since Cole betrayed O’Reilly at Vengeance Day on February 14. So now the feud is over and perhaps so is Cole’s NXT career. Per Figure Four Online, Cole’s WWE contact is reportedly up and many fans are speculating on what his next move will be. Is Adam Cole on his way to AEW? [This post contains video, click to play] AEW’s Growing Locker Room It’s quite possibly the single most asked question of exiting WWE stars of the past two years. Since AEW’s birth and growth in the industry, Tony Khan’s company has become a landing spot for several ex-WWE talents. It’s a situation that has played out many times and it’s likely not going to end anytime soon. Critics of AEW cite the company’s penchant for signing former WWE stars as the reason for Khan’s success. After all, WWE stars have had the benefit of working for a much ..

The Shape Of The NXT Roster Was Shaken Up This Week

There are a few of them. One of the more interesting wrestling stories of the last few weeks has been the changes in and around NXT. Vince McMahon has not seemed happy with what has been going on in his developmental program and some adjustments have been made. There are even more of them to come, and some of the bigger ones might have taken place this week. Multiple members of the NXT roster had some sort of change during this week’s show. First of all, Danny Burch returned to television after injuring his shoulder in March. Burch returned to help Oney Lorcan attack Timothy Thatcher during Thatcher’s match against Ridge Holland, Burch and Lorcan’s former associate. It is not clear when Burch will return to the ring. Next, Carmelo Hayes defeated Odyssey Jones to win the second NXT Breakout Tournament. The win grants Hayes a future title shot against any champion, though he did not make his decision on which champion to challenge. Later in the show, Electra Lopez returned to NXT and a..

Here’s Who Will Be Some Of The Top NXT Stars Going Forward

You need some major names. We are in the middle of a transitional period in NXT and that is going to be the case for a long time to come. WWE has not been thrilled with the way things have gone and it is time for some changes to be made. This will involve a retooling of the NXT roster, but not everyone is going to be gone. Now we might have an idea of who will be filling some of the most important roles. According to PWInsider.com, Johnny Gargano is likely to be the main heel in NXT going forward. In addition, Roderick Strong and Pete Dunne will be some of the roster’s major villains. This comes after Adam Cole and Karrion Kross finished up with NXT on Sunday at Takeover 36. There is no word on who these three will be feuding with in the future or who will be the major babyfaces on the show. Those are some big names. WWE RUMOR: Why Karrion Kross Wore That Mask On Monday Night Raw

Call it a choice? There are certain things about wrestlers that almost everyone is going to notice, which makes them all the more important. A wrestler has to be put together in the right way or they are not going to be the most well received. One of the most important aspects is how the wrestler looks, with the wrong look having the potential to be quite the problem. Now we know the idea behind a recent change. This week on Monday Night Raw, Karrion Kross came to the ring wearing a special mask and wearing new gear. According to Andrew Zarian, the new gear was introduced as a way to market Kross, as every wrestler must be marketable for the purposes of things like clothing, toys and imaging. Kross would go on to defeat Ricochet in less than a minute and a half. The win came one day after he lost the NXT Title to Samoa Joe at NXT Takeover 36. Spoke to a source regarding Kross’s new ring gear. His response : “Everything & everyone must be marketable. Toys, shirts, imaging, and acces..

Four Monday Night Raw Wrestlers Are Undergoing Some Changes

They have a plan for that. Summerslam has come and gone and things have been shaken up in WWE all over again. That tends to be the case after nearly every major show the company has, which was the case again this weekend. WWE is making some adjustments and now we know a bit more about what is going to be happening with some of the more prominent names on the roster. This week on Monday Night Raw, Miz and John Morrison split up when Miz turned on Morrison for costing him a match. The two have already been confirmed for a match against each other for next week. According to PWInsider.com, the split will result in Morrison’s face turn and the team will not be getting back together anytime in the near future. In addition, also according to PWInsider.com, Mansoor and Mustafa Ali will be teaming together as a babyface tag team going forward. The two have been working together in recent weeks, with Ali teaching Mansoor the ropes in WWE and attempting to make him into a better star. The two ..
