Update On The WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles (And It’s Not Good)

So much for that. Last month, the biggest story in WWE was the night Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out on Monday Night Raw. The company has since responded to the departure, which included the Women’s Tag Team Titles being vacated. A tournament was announced to crown new champions, but there was no details announced. It turns out that the tournament might be in jeopardy. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the tournament will not be taking place whatsoever, at least for the time being. There had been a four team tournament pitched but nothing was ever signed off on and no plan was ever officially made. There is no word on how the tournament will take place, or if anything will happen whatsoever. WWE did not reference the tournament or the titles this week on Monday Night Raw. Opinion: I would like to believe that the titles are done for good, as there is little reason to have them around. As nice of an idea as they might be, WWE does not have the depth in the women’s division to ma..

That’s A Big One: Stacked Match Added To NXT In Your House

The card grows. With less than a week to go before NXT’s In Your House event, the card is mostly set. While there are several matches already set, there is still time to see something else added to the card. There are several options to pick from with all of the talent in NXT, and now we have a new match added to the card. It turns out that this one will have several people involved. This week on NXT, a match was announced for In Your House. During a meeting on Santos Escobar’s yacht, Tony D’Angelo and his associates agreed to face Legado del Fantasma in a six man tag. This comes after the two sides have feuded for several months in a turf war for partial control of NXT. This is the first time that the two sides have met with both teams at full strength. Opinion: This is the kind of match that can do a nice job of building up the show as it will fill in a spot on the card. These two teams have been feuding for several months now and it is nice to see the match actually taking place. ..

NXT Results – May 31, 2022

NXT Date: May 31, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Wade Barrett It’s the go home show for In Your House and that means we are ready for the final push towards the show. Most of the card is set but there is always the chance that we will be seeing another match added this week. The main event is Nathan Frazer vs. Cameron Grimes, which should be a good one. Let’s get to it. Diamond Mine is coming to the ring but Roderick Strong tells the Creeds that they have the night off. Diamond Mine vs. Pretty Deadly Non-title and it’s Strong and Damon Kemp for Diamond Mine. Prince takes Strong into the corner to start and whips him into it again for good measure. Wilson comes in and gets kicked down so Kemp comes in, sending Wilson bailing into the corner. A slap to the face wakes Kemp up and he explodes on Prince, including a bunch of suplexes into a chinlock. It’s back to Strong, who again gets stomped down in the corner, allowing Wilson to for..

REVIEW: Spring Stampede 2000: The New Blood World Order

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Spring Stampede 2000 Date: April 16, 2000 Location: United Center, Chicago, Illinois Attendance: 12,556 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Scott Hudson It’s the night of a million tournaments because TOURNAMENTS ARE AWESOME. The company was rebooted six days ago so all titles are vacant and Russo and Bischoff are here with their latest spray painting stable with the word New in the name. The main event is Jeff Jarrett vs. Diamond Dallas Page for the World Title because the one thing from the last few bori..

WWE Makes Very Rare (And Specific) AEW Reference On Monday Night Raw

There’s your big reference of the day. There are a lot of wrestling promotions in the world today but the top two, at least in the United States, are WWE and AEW. The two of them have been battling for a little over three years now and that is likely to be the case for several years to come. AEW regularly references WWE, but the tables were turned this week. This week on Monday Night Raw, Seth Rollins and Cody Rhodes had a showdown before their match on Sunday at Hell In A Cell. During the exchange, Rollins mentioned that Rhodes and his friends tried to tear down WWE, while also referencing Rhodes smashing a throne with a sledgehammer at Double Or Nothing 2019. The throne was considered a metaphor for WWE legend and executive Triple H, who has sat on one during his entrances for matches in the past. Opinion: That is a lot more than you will hear from WWE about AEW, even if the company wasn’t directly referenced. WWE has a tendency to live in its own bubble and it is interesting to se..

Update On AEW/MJF Situation, Possible Meeting Scheduled

That’s a big step. There are a lot of things that take place in front of a camera on any wrestling show, but what happens backstage might be even more interesting most of the time. You don’t know what kind of things you will hear about taking place that could shake things up in a big way, but now it seems like we could be in for the next step in fixing the latest backstage dust up. Over the weekend, stories began to emerge about issues between AEW and Maxwell Jacob Friedman, including Friedman missing a meet and greet appearance. There was a question about whether Friedman would appear at the show, which he ultimately did, losing to Wardlow in the opening match. According to Fightful Select, a meeting is planned between Friedman and AEW President Tony Khan in the near future, though it is not clear if this is this is still all part of a storyline. Friedman’s AEW contract expires January 1, 2024, when he is expected to be the subject of a WWE and AEW bidding war. Opinion: This continu..

AEW Star Reportedly Arrested Over Domestic Violence Charges

That’s a serious one. There are all kinds of wrestlers in the world and some of them are among the most larger than life characters that you will find in any form of entertainment. Watching them on television can be a lot of fun and you do not know what you might get to see from one week to the next. However, these wrestlers have lives once the cameras turn off as well and now one of them is having a serious issue. According to PWInsider.com, AEW’s Jake Atlas has been arrested and reportedly charged with domestic assault. Atlas had called his partner to pick him up at a bar before suggesting that the two go to a third person’s home. This resulted in an argument when Atlas’ partner paid more attention to the third person involved than Atlas. Eventually Atlas was taken back to the apartment he shares with his partner, who attempted to leave. Atlas reportedly attacked him and scratched his partner’s arm and tore his shirt. Atlas is scheduled to be arraigned on misdemeanor battery charges..

Two Names Removed From AEW Dynamite Match For Unknown Reasons

Not so fast. AEW has done quite a few things well in its just over three years of existence. One of their best things has been its pay per view events. The events are the most important for AEW as the company gets to showcase their biggest stars and matches. Those shows have to be followed up though, and now one of the followups will be a bit different than advertised. Following this weekend’s Double Or Nothing event, AEW announced that a ten man tag team match would take place this week on Dynamite. The match would see the Undisputed Elite face Jurassic Express/Christian Cage/Hardys. However, AEW has since updated the announcement and turned it into an eight man tag, with Jeff Hardy and Adam Cole removed from the match. There is no word on why the changes were made. See the fallout from #AEWDoN as a huge 8-man tag match is set for #AEWDynamite THIS WEDNESDAY at 8/7c LIVE on TBS, as #AEW World Tag Team Champs @boy_myth_legend/@luchasaurus team w/ @Christian4Peeps/@MATTHARDYBRAND to f..

WWE Makes Odd Change To Monday Night Raw, Advertised Return Doesn’t Happen

Where did she go? There are a lot of people on the WWE roster and while the company has a lot of television time, there is only so much to go around. Not everyone can get on TV every single week and that can create some problems for various wrestlers. It means something to be on one of the shows but this week someone who was supposed to be around didn’t appear. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Lacey Evans was announced as returning to the ring on this week’s show. However, Evans did not wrestle and was not mentioned on the show, with no explanation of why the plans were changed. There is nothing to suggest that there is anything wrong with Evans or any specific reason for the change. Evans has not wrestled a match since February 2021 due to maternity leave. Opinion: That’s one of those things that you see WWE do every so often and it doesn’t make things any more logical. I’m not sure why WWE felt the need to change things but it’s kind of fascinating to see just how much they change pl..

Huge Grudge Match Added To WWE Hell In A Cell Card

Call it a grudge match. We are less than a week away from Hell In A Cell and that means WWE needs to have the card set. That would be the case in theory, but it is not exactly reality as there were only four matches set for the show with a week to go before the pay per view. WWE had some work to do and that is what they did this week, with something new being added to the show. A six person tag was added to the Hell In A Cell card this week on Monday Night Raw as Edge/Damian Priest/Rhea Ripley vs. AJ Styles/Finn Balor/Rhea Ripley was announced. This comes after the two groups have been feuding for several weeks, including Edge and Styles facing each other at both WrestleMania and WrestleMania Backlash. This will be the first time that the two teams have faced each other in a six person tag. Opinion: This isn’t much of a surprise as it is the kind of match that has been set up for the last few weeks. It should work well as a new match on the card, but now the question becomes who migh..

Monday Night Raw Results – May 30, 2022

Monday Night Raw Date: May 30, 2022 Location: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines, Iowa Commentators: Byron Saxton, Corey Graves, Jimmy Smith It’s the go home show for Hell In A Cell and there are four matches announced for the card. I’m not sure what they are waiting for with adding on more matches, but you have to think that something takes place this week. However, it is also Memorial Day, meaning there is a good chance that very little is going to happen here. Let’s get to it. Here is Becky Lynch to get things going. She hasn’t been out here to start things off in a bit and she knows the people here are glad she has lost everything. Lynch doesn’t care what these people think, because she collects enemies. We flash back to Money in the Bank 2020, with Asuka winning the briefcase. Then Lynch handed her the Raw Women’s Title because she had to go become a mother. That made Asuka a selfish monster….and here is Asuka to interrupt. She mocks Becky for being a baby and promises to win the ti..

Add It On: New Title Match Set For WWE Hell In A Cell

Add it to the card. We are less than a week away from Hell In A Cell and the card has some work to be done. There are only so many matches announced so far and there is a lot more space that needs to be filled. This includes a variety of title matches, as there was only one title match set coming into this week. Now one of those spots has been filled as a new title match has been added. This week on Monday Night Raw, a United States Title match was added to the Hell In A Cell card, as Mustafa Ali will challenge Theory for the title. Theory interfered in an Ali vs. Ciampa match to give Ali the win via DQ, earning Ali a title shot in the future. After attacking Ali more, Theory said the match could take place right now. Theory beat Ali in less than two minutes but Adam Pearce said they could have a rematch at Hell In A Cell. Opinion: This is a story that has been built up for a few weeks now and they have finally set up the big title match. I wouldn’t have had Ali lose the match this w..

WATCH: Special Victory Speech After AEW Double Or Nothing, With Special Guests

He deserved it. AEW had one of the biggest nights in its history over the weekend with its fourth annual Double Or Nothing event. The show was a star studded card, capped off by CM Punk defeating Hangman Page in the show’s main event. The title change was the only one on the show and felt like an important moment. It turns out that the night wasn’t over just yet. Following the end of the show, Punk grabbed a microphone and thanked the fans for coming to the show and their support over the years. FTR came to the ring to celebrate with Punk, who talked about how the fans helped make them the best in the world. Punk also thanked his wife, AJ Lee, and was put on FTR’s shoulders to celebrate to officially end the show and the night. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that makes for a special ending to the show and it gave the fans a nice sendoff. Punk winning the title really is one of the best things that AEW could have done and it could be quite the important moment’s in the show’s hist..

Backstage News On Stephanie McMahon’s WWE Hiatus

They aren’t sure. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and has been for a very long time now. A lot of this has been due to the names behind the scenes who make the company’s major decisions. Those names are very important and one of them making a change can mark a major shakeup in the company. Now we might know why one such change took place. Earlier this month, Stephanie McMahon took a leave of absence from her executive position in WWE. During an appearance on the We’re Live Pal podcast, Andrew Zarian said that he received a phone call from a high up in WWE who said that there were doubts in WWE about McMahon’s abilities as an executive. This came after McMahon took on some of the departed Michelle Wilson’s responsibilities in ad sales and sponsorships. There is no word on why someone would want this information out or if McMahon will be away from WWE. On the same show, Dave Meltzer said that if McMahon does return, it will be in a different role. ..

There She Goes: Long Awaited Heel Turn Takes Place At AEW Double Or Nothing

What a twist! There are a lot of ways to present different wrestlers and some of them can involve quite a change. Sometimes these changes are hinted at long in advance but other times you see them come up out of nowhere. Both of them can be equally effective and can open quite a few doors. That was the case this weekend, and now things are are heading in a different direction. This weekend at AEW Double Or Nothing, Julia Hart officially joined the House Of Black. At the end of the House of Black’s match against Death Triangle, Hart appeared and sprayed Pac with black mist, allowing Black to score the pin. This comes after Black originally sprayed Hart with the same black mist in December, causing her to slowly become more and more evil. Opinion: This is the definition of long overdue and I’m not sure what took AEW so long to finally get to the point. Hart joining the team is something that makes sense and gives them a new dimension, though it remains to be seen if she can back it up ..

One Step Forward: Very Positive Update On Big E.’s Injury Status

That is some great news. There are all kinds of injuries in the wrestling world and some of them are among the worst things that can happen to a wrestler. Sometimes you see someone’s career cut off out of nowhere and it can be quite the wait to see things get better. That was the case a few months back with a very serious injury, but now there might be some good news. According to Ringsidenews.com, Big E. has shared an image to his social media showing him without a neck brace. This is the first time that Big E. has been seen without the brace since he suffered a broken neck after a botched belly to belly suplex from Ridge Holland on the March 11 SmackDown. There is no word on when or if Big E. will be able to return to the ring. Looks like Big E has been able to ditch his neck brace (via IG) pic.twitter.com/bmC0EpkiPw — WrestlePurists (@WrestlePurists) May 29, 2022 Opinion: That is awesome to see as well as hear, as a broken neck is one of the scariest things that you will ever ..

Triple Threat: Three New Stars Make AEW Debuts At Double Or Nothing

Some new names. AEW has had a lot of success during its existence and quite a bit of that has been due to their roster. The company has been able to keep things fresh by bringing in a variety of different wrestlers, many of whom you might have seen before. That was the case this weekend, as AEW brought in three new names, all ow whom you are probably familiar with in some way. There were three new debuts Sunday night at Double Or Nothing. First up, Stokely Hathaway, formerly known as Malcolm Bivens in NXT, debuted in the Jade Cargill vs. Anna Jay match, with Hathaway seemingly siding with Cargill. After the match was over, Athena, better known as Ember Moon in WWE, debuted and confronted Cargill. Later in the show, a segment showed Andrade El Idolo in an office. El Idolo introduced his new business associate, former Ring Of Honor World Champion Rush, who seemed to be part of the Andrade Family Office. Opinion: These debuts are the kind of things that you need to see happen every now ..

That’s A Big One: Major Title Change Takes Place At AEW Double Or Nothing

History has been made on the big stage. A title is one of the most recognizable things you will see on a wrestling show as you instantly get the idea of someone having a shiny championship. On top of that, a title changing hands can be a huge changing point for a promotion, especially if it is the company’s top championship. That was the case again this weekend. CM Punk defeated Hangman Adam Page to win the AEW World Title in the main event of this weekend’s Double Or Nothing. Punk defeated Page to become the fifth champion in the company’s history, which also marked Punk’s first title in AEW. It is also Punk’s first championship of any kind since he left WWE in 2013. The loss ends Page’s reign at 197 days, the second shortest reign in history. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that can change a company’s path forward, as Punk is one of the biggest stars that AEW has. He can be the new face of the company, assuming he wasn’t already, and that might make a big difference going forwar..

AEW Double Or Nothing 2022 Live Coverage And Results

Double Or Nothing 2022 Date: May 29, 2022 Location: T-Mobile Arena, Paradise, Nevada Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone AEW is back on pay per view and that should mean good things. The main event will feature CM Punk challenging Hangman Page for the World Title, but the question is around MJF. While he is scheduled to face Wardlow in a match a long time in the making, he has had some issues with AEW and there is a chance he won’t show up. That wouldn’t exactly be great to see so let’s get to it. Buy In Show: Tony Nese/Mark Sterling vs. Hookhausen Hook and Nese start things off with Hook taking him down without much trouble. Danhausen comes in and is allowed to grab a headlock before Nese runs him over. The curse is loaded up but Danhausen goes with the middle rope hurricanrana instead. Nese drops Danhausen again and it’s Sterling coming in to stomp away in the corner. Sterling misses a legdrop though and Danhausen suplexes his way to freedom, allowing the tag off to H..

Top Independent Star Suffers Possible Torn Bicep, Finishes Match Anyway

Ouch. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to be put on the shelf with an injury. It might be something that has built up over time and has to be corrected but there are also times when an injury pops up out of nowhere. Both are equally bad, but the latter can stop someone’s push cold. Unfortunately that seems to be the case again, as a top independent star may have been injured. NWA World Champion Matt Cardona revealed that he was injured during a match at GCW’s Downward Spiral event. The injury took place during a match against Black Christian though it is not clear when it happened during the match. Cardona tweeted that he thought he tore his bicep and was forced to miss his own after party as he flew to Orlando to get his arm looked at. There is no word on how long Cardona could be out, though he is scheduled to defend the NWA World Title against Nick Aldis on June 11. I think I tore my bicep and I still finished the match and beat you!!! https://t.co/PWzrCryEV6 — Matt Car..
