SmackDown Results – March 10, 2023

Smackdown Date: March 10, 2023 Location: PPG Paints Arena, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Commentators: Michael Cole, Wade Barrett We are just over three weeks away from Wrestlemania and the biggest development coming into this show was Jey Uso rejoining the Bloodline by taking out Sami Zayn. That seems to be the step that we have been waiting for on the way to whatever the Usos and Zayn are going to be doing at Wrestlemania so we might see something big tonight. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Jey rejoining his brother Jimmy on Smackdown. Cody Rhodes made the save to tie it into the World Title situation. The Usos arrive and are greeted by Paul Heyman. Jey asks where Roman Reigns is but Heyman hugs him. Jey says let Reigns know he’s here so Heyman goes to find him. When asked why he turned on Sami Zayn, Jey says he’ll make it clear tonight. Jimmy says Cody Rhodes needs to stay out of the Bloodline’s business. Opening sequence. Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. LA Knight vs. Xavier..

Not Yet: WrestleMania Title Match Delayed After Controversial Finish To #1 Contenders Match

You’re up next. A long title reign can be one of the most interesting things in all of wrestling, as it opens up the question of who might be the person to take them down. Having a huge title defense can be a lot of fun as you can feel the possibility of a title change. We almost had that again, but things have gotten a little more complicated after a controversial finish. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He’s In: Active WWE Star Announced For Hall Of Fame Class Of 2023 This week on SmackDown, Drew McIntyre and Sheamus won a fatal five way match for the #1 contendership to the Intercontinental Title at WrestleMania. Sheamus and McIntyre scored a double pin on Xavier Woods and LA Knight (with Karrion Kross also involved in the match) but no #1 contender was announced. The two argued in the back and later in the show, a match between the two was set for next week with the winner getting the title shot at WrestleMania. This could be big for WrestleMania. Check out who could be fighting for the t..

Down Again: Current WWE Champion “Banged Up”, Out Of Action

He’s out for a bit. There are all kinds of ways a wrestler can get hurt and you never know how long someone is going to be out of action. They can take place either all at once or build up over time but either of them are going to leave someone on the shelf. WWE has been having some injury issues in recent weeks and now they have another name on the injury list. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: All Cleared Up: Monday Night Raw Star Returns From Suspension, Set For Royal Rumble According to PWInsider.com, NXT Tag Team Champion Xavier Woods is currently not medically cleared to compete due to an undisclosed injury. Woods is described as being “banged up”, though he is expected to be back in the ring by the Royal Rumble or perhaps even sooner. Woods’ most recent match was a six man tag during a WWE live event on December 27. Woods is quite good when he is around. Kofi Kingston Makes WWE History at NXT Deadline

Another one for the history books. This past Sunday at NXT Deadline, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods captured the NXT tag team championships by defeating Pretty Deadly. While this was a great moment for The New Day, this championship victory was also historic in a number of ways. As a result of their victory, Kingston broke the record for the most tag team championships in WWE history with 15. The previous record was held by Booker T, who had 14 championship reigns. Kofi Kingston has now officially broken the record for most tag-title reigns in @WWE history. A now record 15x Tag-Team champion ???@TrueKofi pic.twitter.com/o9rcDnEIpb — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) December 11, 2022 Furthermore, Kingston is the first WWE Champion to later win an NXT championship, and Woods is the first King of the Ring tournament winner to later capture an NXT title. #NXTDeadline @TrueKofi is the first former @WWE Champion to later hold a title in #WWENXT.@AustinCreedWins is the first former #WWE King o..

They’re Here: New Day Makes Surprise NXT Appearance, Jumps Into Title Picture

It would be new for them. With such a deep roster, WWE is able to split their wrestlers into several groups, with the developmental program getting its own collection of stars. On occasion you will see someone go from one of the two main rosters down to NXT, either for some polishing up or as a surprise. The latter was the case this week, and it might lead to something big. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: NXT Star Returns To The Ring After Injury Absence This week’s NXT featured an in-ring segment with NXT Tag Team Champions Pretty Deadly. The team said that no one could beat them, but were interrupted by New Day. After some insults, New Day challenged Pretty Deadly to an NXT Tag Team Title match at Deadline this weekend. The match was officially announced later in the night. While Xavier Woods is a former NXT star, Kingston has only wrestled as a guest before. They have some history. Check out Kingston, Woods and Pretty Deadly’s time in NXT: [This post contains video, click to play]..

Monday Night Raw Results – November 7, 2022

Monday Night Raw Date: November 7, 2022 Location: Mohegan Sun Arena At City Plaza, Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania Commentators: Kevin Patrick, Corey Graves We’re done with Crown Jewel and now it is time to get ready for Survivor Series. There weren’t many developments this weekend but we get to find out where some of these stories are going on the way to WarGames. I’m curious to see who is going inside the cage and maybe we find some of that out this week. Let’s get to it. Here are the Usos and Solo Sikoa to get things going. We see a photo of the Bloodline celebrating at the end of Crown Jewel with the Usos promising to beat New Day for the titles on Smackdown. Cue New Day to interrupt with Xavier Woods promising to get the titles back on Friday. The Usos praise New Day’s history and there’s nothing wrong with being the #2s. Woods calls out the Usos for being coddled in a famous wrestling family, which sends Jey into a rant about the pressure that comes with being part of a legendary f..

Catch You Later: WWE Star Attacked On SmackDown, May Miss Some Time

That could be some time off. There are a lot of very talented wrestlers in the world today and you will see a lot of them on WWE television. While there are some problems with the presentation at times, the wrestlers’ talent is certainly there and cannot be questioned in some cases. However, sometimes a wrestler will need to be out of action for one reason or another and that might be the case again. This week’s SmackDown featured a tag team match between New Day and the Viking Raiders. After the Viking Raiders won, the team attacked Xavier Woods and crushed his ankle using a chair. While not confirmed, there is a chance that this means Woods will be missing time from the ring to recover. Woods is also currently co-hosting the Arena on G4, which regularly features WWE stars. Opinion: I’m curious about what this means for Woods, as that is the kind of thing that is done to put him on the shelf for a long time. Maybe he is getting some time off for the sake of G4, but the SmackDown tag..

WATCH: WWE Stars Appearing On New Game Show

It’s a different way to go. There are a lot of ways to present wrestling and some of them are not quite as traditional as others. While the most common way is to have wrestlers either in a ring or with a microphone, times have changed a bit and there are other places to see what they can do. That is the case again with a new game show, and now we have a bit of a sneak peak. Earlier this year, G4 announced that they were collaborating with WWE on a new monthly game show called The Arena. The series will be hosted by WWE’s Xavier Woods and G4’s Gina Darling and will feature WWE stars, professional athletes, games, streamers and more competing in challenges and pranks. A preview clip features Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, as they each team with an NFL star. The series is currently airing on UpUpDownDown’s YouTube channel. This has potential. Check out a preview of the show: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is one of those things that might not be everyone’s tast..

WWE Changes Yet Another Superstar’s Name

Who are you again? There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and several of them have names that are going to be well known among fans. However, WWE will occasionally make changes to those names, often for reasons that don’t seem clear on the surface. That seems to be the case again, as a wrestler has lost a moniker that he won not so very long ago. WWE has changed King Woods’ name back to his old name of Xavier Woods, as per Woods’ WWE.com profile. The name change comes after Woods returned under the King name last week on SmackDown for his match against Ridge Holland. There is no word on why the name change was made. Woods won the 2021 King of the Ring tournament to earn his new name and turned it into an aspect of his personality, including knighting partner Kofi Kingston. Opinion: This is one of those changes that makes a bit more sense than most. They aren’t changing anything major about Woods but rather dropping the King aspect. That isn’t quite as drastic of a change as P..

WWE Confirms New Grudge Match For WrestleMania 38

One more for the card. With less than a week to go before WrestleMania, it is time for WWE to give us the final push towards the biggest event of the year. That is how things should be going in theory at least, as WWE still seems to have a lot of time to fill in on the card. WWE covered some of that time this week though, as another match has been added to WrestleMania. The WrestleMania Twitter account has announced that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods of the New Day will face Ridge Holland and Sheamus on WrestleMania Saturday. This is fallout from Holland injuring Big E. earlier this month on SmackDown, which was followed by a series of singles matches between the team members. This will be Holland’s WrestleMania debut match. King Woods & @TrueKofi are set to battle @RidgeWWE & @WWESheamus at #WrestleMania 38! @AustinCreedWins https://t.co/6rfRZeRPxV pic.twitter.com/vIJ1EE92z7 — WWE WrestleMania (@WrestleMania) March 28, 2022 Opinion: I don’t think this is much of a surprise, but a..

Ricochet Teases Next Intercontinental Title Challenger (And It’s A Bit Of A Surprise)

Maybe he’s up next. Titles are one of the easiest concepts to understand in wrestling. Someone has a championship belt and someone else wants it. That is all you need to carry a feud in a lot of cases and that is certainly the case in WWE. These feuds can be set up in a variety of ways and that might have happened again with one of the most historically important titles in WWE history. Last week on SmackDown, WWE Intercontinental Champion Ricochet was defeated by both members of Los Lotharios, setting up a title match on next week’s show. Over the weekend, Xavier Woods tweeted that he would win the title later in the year. Ricochet responded to Woods, saying that after he gets done with Los Lotharios, he would be glad to “smack you up”. Woods defeated Ricochet in the first round of the 2021 King of the Ring, which Ricochet referenced in his response. While not confirmed, this could suggest that Woods will be a future challenger for the title. Back to settle a score, then it’s time to..

Update On Possible WrestleMania Match After Injury Shook Up Plans

You need to have a plan. With less than a week to go before WrestleMania 38, it would be reasonable to think that WWE would have the card finalized. However, that does not seem to be the case, as there are several wrestlers still without a match on the show. WWE still has some time to set things up, but now they might need to change their minds one more time. According to Fightful Select, a planned six man tag at WrestleMania might have been changed or even canceled. The original plan would have seen New Day face Butch/Sheamus/Ridge Holland in a six man tag. However, Big E. suffered a broken neck in a match earlier this month, meaning that plans had to be changed. The current plan would see Sheamus team up with Butch to face Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, though Holland could be substituted for Butch. The match has not been officially announced in any form. Opinion: I would certainly hope that the match still takes place in some form, as it has been set up for several weeks now but ..

Injured WWE Star Returns To The Ring After Two Month Absence

Welcome back. An injury is something that you rarely see coming in wrestling and that makes it all the worse. Some of them are going to take a wrestler out of action for a long time, which can leave a lot of people wiating for them to get back in the ring. That can take a good while, but now another wrestler has returned to action after a pretty long time off due to an injury. Xavier Woods returned to action this weekend at a WWE live event in Jackson, Mississippi. Woods and Kofi Kingston teamed together in a losing effort in a triple threat match against Ridge Holland/Sheamus and the Usos, who retained their SmackDown Tag Team Titles. This was Woods’ first match since the January 7 SmackDown as he has been out of action with a calf injury. The @WWEUsos bringing the heat against the New Day at #WWEJackson pic.twitter.com/TJaqr8u2hP — Scott Boyes (@Wabigama) March 13, 2022 Opinion: That is great to hear as you never want to see someone out of action with an injury. Woods is one of t..

Ring Of Honor TV Results – February 23, 2022

Ring of Honor Date: February 23, 2022 It’s another Hall of Fame show and this time around we are looking at Samoa Joe. That is another case where there are all kinds of matches to pick from, many of which are among the ones that helped put Ring of Honor on the map. These shows have been excellent so far and there is a chance that this one will be too. Let’s get to it. We open with Samoa Joe’s Hall of Fame video, talking about how he helped put the company on the map and his still record World Title reign. We also hear about his time in Impact Wrestling and WWE, though not much is said about the latter. From Night of Champions, March 22, 2003. Ring of Honor Title: Samoa Joe vs. Xavier Xavier is defending and the rest of the Prophecy, Xavier’s friends, are at ringside but CW Anderson and Michael Shane come in to take them out. That leaves Joe to chop Xavier into the corner, where Xavier’s chops have no effect. Joe knocks him outside and puts Xavier in a chair for a running boot to se..

WWE Has Already Reversed A Rule They Just Made

So much for that. WWE does a lot of different things with its wrestlers from one week to another and some of them are more interesting than others. At times it will seem like WWE has almost no idea what they are doing and that can make for some rather confusing moments. This time around, WWE seems to have already dropped an idea that they might not have used in the first place. Earlier this month, Vince McMahon reportedly ordered that the team of Big E. and Kofi Kingston, who have reunited as a tag team on SmackDown, should not be known as New Day. According to Fightful Select, the edict has been dropped, as the team came to the ring on this week’s SmackDown with New Day graphics and the signature New Day entrance, though the team was still billed as Kingston and Big E. with no New Day name. However, the name may return when Xavier Woods is with the team. There is no word on why McMahon changed his mind on the edict. Opinion: That is about as McMahon as you can get, as the idea was d..

Update On Big E. And Kofi Kingston Reuniting On SmackDown

The new plan. Stables have long since been an important part of the wrestling landscape, as they are such an easy concept. Having a stable allows wrestlers to be put together into a group, which makes it easier to get more people on television than before. There have been several successful stables in WWE history and now one of them seems to be coming back together. It just might not be that simple. Over the last few weeks, Big E. has returned to SmackDown and been reunited with Kofi Kingston. However, according to Fightful Select, this is not considered a New Day reunion. Vince McMahon reportedly decided he wanted Kingston and Big E. back together because he missed the magic they created, but did not want them to be called the New Day again. There is no word on if this will continued when or if Xavier Woods returns to join the team. Opinion: So let me get this straight: McMahon wants New Day but doesn’t want New Day? Am I getting that right? This is one of those things that probably..

Back To It: WWE Star Returning From Injury Soon

Welcome back. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and several of them do not get to appear on television at times. This could be the case due to a variety of reasons, some of which might be due to an injury. Sometimes a wrestler is going to miss time because they are forced onto the sidelines, but now one of them will be back on the active roster going forward. According to Fightful Select, Xavier Woods has been moved to the active internal roster after missing several weeks due to a calf injury. There is no word on when he will be back on television or back in the ring. Woods was not in action at either last week’s SmackDown or the Royal Rumble. This should lead to a New Day reunion, as Big E. has been moved back to SmackDown along with Kofi Kingston. Opinion: It is always great to see someone getting to return to the active roster as Woods was injured for a good while. He is one of the more entertaining stars on SmackDown, though I don’t know what New Day is going to do ..

Switch: Monday Night Raw Star Officially Moved To SmackDown

That’s a big move. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster, to the point where the company can split the roster into multiple groups on their own shows. These wrestlers rarely interact with each other, but you do see it happen from time to time. Usually this is the case before some of the bigger shows of the year and that seemed to be the case again. Now though, we are seeing a more permanent change. This week on SmackDown, it was announced that Big E. has officially been moved from Monday Night Raw back to SmackDown. The move allowed Big E. to reunite with his former New Day teammates Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods, with Big E. teaming with Kingston in a tag match on this week’s show. There is no word on why the move was made or if this will be an official reunion of the New Day. Big E. was moved into a singles run in the 2020 WWE Draft, when New Day was officially split up. The team was then reunited for a few weeks, only to have Big E. jump over to Monday Night Raw after wi..
