That’s something special. There are all kinds of things that need to come together to make a wrestler a success. At or near the top of the list is the ability to talk, as it can make the fans care about you in a way that almost anything in the ring just cannot do. Being able to use the right words help, and now another WWE star is revealing a special privilege that she has when it comes to talking. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Oh No: Former Impact Wrestling Star Arrested For Violating Order of Protection Involving Wife During a new interview with Sports Media with Richard Deitsch, Monday Night Raw star Rhea Ripley revealed that she has some creative freedom with promos. While there are promos where she is required to say certain things to get points across and cannot change much, she has “free range” on backstage segments. Such freedom when it comes to promos are not common in WWE, with only a handful of wrestlers being granted such permission. Ripley is quite the star. Check out her rece..
We have some sad news to report today as WWE Hall of Famer, Arn Anderson’s son Barrett has passed away at the age of 37. Anderson tweeted the following to share the news: Last night my family suffered a loss that should never be felt by any parent. Our older son Barrett passed away. I am struggling to write this. Tell those you love that you love them. Barrett was just 37. Last night my family suffered a loss that should never he felt by any parent. Our older son Barrett passed away. Barrett was just 37. pic.twitter.com/wFhPgxUQsR — Arn Anderson (@TheArnShow) March 11, 2023 It is unknown at this time what caused Barrett’s unfortunate passing. Barrett’s brother, Brock, who works for AEW along with his father, shared the following words: “I never thought of what to say in something like this because it’s not something you just have on stand by waiting for the day to come… Last night I lost my brother ..
Impact Wrestling Date: March 9, 2023 Location: Sam’s Town Live, Las Vegas, Nevada Commentators: Tom Hannifan, Matthew Rehwoldt We are on our way to a trio of shows with Sacrifice, Multiverse United and Rebellion, which makes for quite the packed series of builds. That got started last week with a little something for each show getting time, but they are going to have to do it again for the next few weeks. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Here is Bully Ray to get things going. At No Surrender, Tommy Dreamer used the words “someone like me” (meaning Ray). What did he mean when he said that? Did he mean a two time Hall of Famer or half of the greatest tag team ever? Maybe a two time World Champion? Ray wishes he knew what Dreamer meant, because he threw hot coffee into Dreamer’s face. Dreamer wants a Busted Open match at Sacrifice but there is no way Dreamer is making it there. Cue Santino Marella to call Bully “Bobby Ray” and say that Dreamer will be at Sacrifice. It was only a minor ..
Words matter. There are certain stars in WWE history who are bigger names than others, to the point where they are deemed legends. Those are the people who are going to get attention no matter what they are doing and it can make a big difference to have them around. Most of those appearances are saved for special events, such as the recent Raw XXX. Now we know a detail about what happened on the show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Take Your Time: NXT Star To Miss TV Time After Violent Attack One of the names who appeared at Raw XXX was the Undertaker, who confronted LA Knight and threw him to Bray Wyatt, who left Knight laying. Undertaker and Wyatt then had a staredown, with Undertaker whispering something to him. During an appearance on Tim & Friends, Undertaker revealed that he was always available for Wyatt if he ever wanted to talk or had questions. There is no word on when Undertaker will appear for WWE again. It was a cool moment. Check out the interview, the staredown and Undertaker..
It’s time to wrap up the Ring Of Honor year with its third event, as Final Battle closes us out. As you might expect, this is mainly going to be about AEW stars as Ring Of Honor is less a promotion than a really big and loosely connected angle on AEW TV at the moment. We have a double main event of FTR defending the Tag Team Titles against the Briscoes in a double dog collar match, plus Claudio Castagnoli challenging Chris Jericho for the Ring Of honor World Title. Yeah that should work. Let’s get to it. Zero Hour: Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Shinobi Shadow Squad This is one of the several added matches to flesh out the card, or in this case the card that happens before the card. The Squad is one of those teams who pops up all the time in Ring Of Honor but rarely gets to do anything important. In other words, they are perfect to face a pair of goofs like Menard and Parker in a match with absolutely nothing at stake in a spot like this. In what is probably going to be a trend, I’..
That could mean so much. The internet has changed the wrestling world in a lot of ways, with wrestlers being able to benefit from its presences in a lot of ways. One of the most important is by allowing wrestlers to be able to get their face and words out there a lot more often than they are on television. Now one of them has made a post that is more than a little curious. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: One More Time: How A Possible CM Punk WWE Return Is Being Received Backstage This week on Monday Night Raw, Akira Tozawa appeared in a backstage segment where he beat Baron Corbin and John Bradshaw Layfield in a poker game. Later in the night, Tozawa lost to Corbin in a match, which was Tozawa’s first match on Monday Night Raw since the June 27 episode. After the show was over, Tozawa sent out a tweet of his ring gear, with the caption “thank you”. There is no word on what Tozawa meant by the message. Tozawa has been in WWE since 2016. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/92XZsxPmwD — Akira Tozawa (@..
NXT Date: October 25, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. We’re fresh off of Halloween Havoc and that means not much has really changed. The only new champion crowned was Wes Lee, who won the vacant North American Title. In other words, pretty much everyone should be on to something new as we are coming up on Deadline in about six weeks. We do have a pair of Tag Team Title matches though, which feel like matches that they just couldn’t fit on Halloween Havoc. Let’s get to it. We open with a recap of Halloween Havoc. Women’s Tag Team Titles: Kayden Carter/Katana Chance vs. Zoey Stark/Nikkita Lyons Stark and Lyons are challenging. Carter and Lyons start, with the latter busting out some splits. Stark comes in for a chinlock which doesn’t work very well, allowing Carter to kick her away. Chance slingshots in with a flipping splash for two but a headscissors gets Stark out of trouble. Lyons comes in and works on Chance’s back unt..
That’s a shot. A finishing move is one of the most important parts of any wrestler’s presentation. Having the right signature move is the kind of thing that can make anyone look like a star but even then it has to be done in a certain way. At some point different people are going to wind up using the same moves as others, and now one of the biggest stars in wrestling history doesn’t like how another star uses his signature move. WWE Hall of Famer Goldberg appeared on the Roman Atwood podcast where he talked about Roman Reigns using the spear. According to Goldberg, Reigns has said that it is stupid to go out and hit someone hard, though Goldberg says if you can hit someone hard and not hurt them it’s pretty smart. Goldberg also said “plus, I don’t look like a, no offense, girl when I tackle people.” Reigns defeated Goldberg earlier this year at Elimination chamber. Opinion: Those are the kind of words that are going to get attention and that is no surprise. Goldberg was one of the fi..
She can get away with that. There are a lot of talented stars in WWE but only a handful of them reach a superstar level. Some of those names come in with that label attached to them and it can be a lot of fun seeing what they can do when they are given the chance. Occasionally those stars will be allowed to put something together on their own and that has happened again. In recent months, Ronda Rousey and Liv Morgan have feuded with each other over the SmackDown Women’s Title. During the feud, Shayna Baszler got involved and exchanged words with Rousey. According to Fightful Select, this was a story planned by the two of them and not put together by WWE. There are currently no plans to include the two together in the near future. Opinion: This is an interesting one as while WWE has more or less stopped anything the angle could do, it is a good sign that they were able to get anything on television whatsoever. With WWE being as heavily scripted as it has been before, it can be nice to..
They might have a new problem. The last year plus of WWE has been dominated by the Bloodline. The group has dominated almost anyone who has come in front of them and there are only a few names left who can come up against them. It means something for a star to face off of them and now another former champion seems ready to come after the all star team. Last week on SmackDown, Ricochet faced Solo Sikoa. Prior to the show, Ricochet gave an interview backstage where he talked about being sick of the Bloodline. Ricochet spoke about how he wanted to take out all of the teams, beginning with Sikoa that night. Sikoa defeated Ricochet in the match and it is not clear if Ricochet will continue to go after the Bloodline in the coming weeks. He had something to say. Check out Ricochet’s words against the Bloodline: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I could absolutely go for more of Ricochet, but it doesn’t exactly offer the best sign if he is losing in his first match after m..
Yeah he did that. There has never been anyone like Vince McMahon in the history of wrestling and there never will be again. McMahon was the definition of a one of a kind personality who was known for his odd quirks, including getting annoyed at things for no apparent reason. There have been several instances of single words driving McMahon crazy over the years and now we know another one. During a recent edition of his Wrestling With Freddie podcast, former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed that McMahon would get angry when someone used the word “strap” to refer to a championship during a promo. While McMahon would not allow the word “belt” to be used, the word “strap” would reportedly cause him to go into a rage, to the point where nothing else in the promo mattered to him. McMahon retired from WWE earlier this year after nearly 40 years in charge of the company. Opinion: This is about as McMahon of a thing as you can get and I’m not remotely surprised. He has always been known..
Well that’s a turn. WWE has been running quite the mystery in recent weeks, but very little of it has been taking place on television. Instead, WWE has been doing more of an underground story, with incidents taking place at live events and a series of QR codes appearing on television, leading to more clues. There was another one this week and things got even weirder. A new QR code appeared this week on Monday Night Raw, taking you to a site that features a collection of WWE clips which comprise the words “Who killed the world? You did.” It also included coordinates for Prata Nevoso, Italy, the location of the Giant Pink Bunny. In addition, according to Ryan Satin, looking at the site’s source code shows the phrases “No man is ever truly good, no man is ever truly evil”. These were the lyrics to Aleister Black’s WWE theme music, though there is nothing to suggest that Black is on his way back to WWE. WHOAHHH! While searching for the QR code on here, because I was having trouble on m..
That’s a little spooky. There are a lot of ways to present a wrestler on any given show. Sometimes the best way is to bring them out simply, have them win some matches and go from there. That is the easiest and most common method, but sometimes you need something a bit more complicated. WWE is certainly doing that at the moment and now they are at it again. This week on Monday Night Raw, a QR cord appeared in the background of a backstage segment. Scanning the code brought up a short video of a white rabbit playing a game of Hangman, with the question “Who Killed The World” at the top. The rabbit then makes the words “YOU DID” appear on screen and “9-23” then appears. This comes less than a week after WWE played the song “White Rabbit” during a commercial break on SmackDown. It is not clear what this is referencing. It’s certainly different. Check out what WWE aired: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: I’m not sure what this is but it would seem to be either somethin..
He has spoken. Malakai Black took to social media recently and issued a statement regarding his status with AEW, mental health issues, and more. This comes after reports surfaced that he requested and was granted his release from the company. The statement reads as follows: All. Firstly thank you all for your messages, know they are being read and appreciated. With all the turmoil going on in the landscape of Professional Wrestling I took the time to think of my words but also needed to wait until conversations between mine and AEW’s camp had come to a conclusion. Firstly, I dislike reading parts of my private conversations between myself and AEW in regards to my mental well being on the internet. These conversations were private and not meant to be shared with the public. As by now most people realize I am a very private person and do not feel the need to have stuff like this out on the internet. If you’ve been following me longer than a cup of coffee you’re aware I’ve spoken abou..
Get your scripts updated. WWE has been undergoing a variety of changes and some of them are going to be felt for a long time to come. Most of these changes have been behind the scenes, but a good many of those are going to have an impact on what happens in front of the camera. That seems to be the case again, as some longstanding rules might be relaxed a bit. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is relaxing its rule on the use of the terms “wrestler” and “wrestling” in promos. Previously, the terms needed prior authorization to be used but now the terms are no longer considered dirty. This is said to be part of the changes taking place in WWE, many of which are seen as positives. Triple H is now in charge of both creative and talent relations and is said to be someone who cares about talent. Opinion: This is the kind of change that seems like the most logical idea in the world. At the end of the day, only WWE would ever think to call itself sports entertainment rather ..
It’s always a possibility. Wrestling is a contact sport and there is always the chance that something could go wrong. You never know when you are going to see someone get hurt and be taken out of the ring. There is an even bigger chance of something going wrong during a match and unfortunately that was the case this weekend in a high profile match at Forbidden Door. This weekend’s Forbidden Door event featured a four way match for the IWGP World Heavyweight title as Adam Cole, Hangman Page and Kazuchika Okada all challenged Jay White. According to F4WOnline.com, Cole suffered a concussion during the match, which ended when Cole collapsed and was pinned by White. While not shown on screen, commentary did say that Cole walked to the back on his own power. There is no word on how long it will be before Cole can return to the ring. Opinion: Concussion is one of the scariest words in wrestling as you never know how severe one of them is going to be. Cole could be out of action for more th..
It deserves some praise. Every so often, you see a match that catches your attention for all of the right reasons. The whole thing comes together so well that it is impossible to not like it for almost every possible aspect. Those are the matches that will be remembered for a long time to come and now it has happened again, with even WWE getting in on the match’s praise. The main event of this Sunday’s Hell In A Cell pay per view saw Cody Rhodes defeat Seth Rollins in the show’s namesake match. Rhodes wrestled the match with a torn pectoral muscle, leaving him injured throughout. According to the WrestleVotes Twitter account, those at WWE’s Gorilla position were said to have “loved” the match and seen it as a modern classic, which WWE will treat it as going forward. I’ve had multiple sources reach out this morning w/ exemplary words for the performance Cody Rhodes put in last night. Credit to Seth Rollins as well. Those at Gorilla were said to have LOVED the match. A modern day, all ..
That’s one way to do it. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between John Cena and Batista for the WWE Championship in an “I Quit” Match from Over the Limit 2010. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: When WWE Champion John Cena and his opponent Batista faced off in an “I Quit” Match, it seemed entirely appropriate that the two Hemi-powered heavyweights found themselves dueling in the Motor City. Each man buried the speedometer as they rumbled toward each other until, finally, The Animal ran out of fuel and was forced to utter those infamous words, “I quit.” For months, Batista had complained about The Champ, stating that The Animal should be the real “face of WWE.” That animosity only intensified after Batista was embarrassed in a Last Man Standing Match when Cena prevailed by duct-taping his feet together around one of the ring posts. As for Cena, The Champ has appear..
Give her the gold. Titles are the kind of thing that can make someone career in an instant. Someone winning a championship turns them into an even bigger star as they become the focal point of a show, or at least a division. Title changes feel important and can mean the start of something new, which might be the case again as another WWE title has changed hands. This weekend at WrestleMania Backlash 2022, Ronda Rousey defeated Charlotte in an I Quit match to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. Rousey made Charlotte quit with an armbar with the arm tied up inside of a chair to win the title for the first time. The match was a rematch from WrestleMania 38, where the referee did not see Charlotte tapping out, allowing Charlotte to pin Rousey and retain the title. Opinion: After the way Rousey lost at WrestleMania, this was about the only way the match could go. What matters is that Charlotte’s reign ended as it should have, with Rousey beating her soundly to take the title. That ..
