Kurt Angle Almost Drowned On Recent Vacation

That’s not good. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently told a story on his podcast on AdFreeShows.com, about how he almost drowned on a recent vacation to Florida. Angle said the following: “We went to Miami, Florida,” Angle said. “The temperature was 80 degrees. We spent so much time on the beach. They had a wonderful pool at the hotel. It was a blast. I actually took my kids jet skiing. My first kid that I put on the back for me to ride them because they’re too young to drive themselves, I put her on the back and we went out, and when I went to make a turn, I slowed down and stopped, I wanted to make a turn and I didn’t put the accelerator on when I was turning and we flipped over. We went into the ocean.” “Now, Thank God my daughter is like an Olympic-caliber swimmer. I even had the safety vest on me, but it wasn’t working. I was still sinking. I can’t swim. So I’m in trouble. I couldn’t get above water. I was going under. My daughter kept her composure. The jet ski got away from..

Former WWE Champion Has Garbage Thrown At Him For Winning World Title

You hate to see this. Wrestling fans are some of the most passionate in all of sports. While their energy and enthusiasm is a wonderful thing, sometimes they go to far. This was the case this past weekend, and garbage was a part of it. Over the weekend, at GCW: Homecoming night one, former WWE and current Impact Wrestling star Matt Cardona defeated Nick Gage in the main event to win the GCW World Championship. Gage had held the GCW World Championship for over 100 days. During the match, Ricky Shane Page’s faction, 44OH!, ran in and attacked Gage. Former GCW World Champion RSP ran in to stop the attack, and he and Gage fought them off. However, it ended up being a ruse as RSP gave Gage a low blow allowing Cardona to hit the Rough Ryder on Gage to win the title. Immediately after winning the title, the GCW fans threw garbage and other debris into the ring, including pizza cutters. Cardona, who wrestled as Zack Ryder in WWE, ran off leaving Gage in the ring in disappointment and in disb..

KB’s Review: Wonderful One

This is a strange week as I had a full column planned out but then some news broke earlier this week that meant things needed to be changed. Therefore, this week is going to something I don’t like having to write that often: a farewell to someone who I didn’t realize I respected as much as I did until not so very long ago. He earned every bit of the respect that he had and it has already been a bit difficult to accept that one of the best ever is actually gone. The week changed in a hurry on Monday, as Paul Orndorff passed away at 71 years old. The news was not the biggest surprise as a recent video had shown Orndorff in rather bad shape, but it was still a hard one to take. Orndorff is one of those guys who I grew up watching and it is going to be hard to imagine him gone. Today we’re going to take a bit of an overall look at his career, which will by no means be exhaustive. The first thing I (and many others) will think of for Orndorff is that he headlined the first WrestleMania. W..

REVIEW: The Big Event: Wonderful

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? The Big Event Date: August 28, 1986 Location: Exhibition Stadium, Toronto, Ontario, Canada Attendance: 70,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Johnny Valiant, Ernie Ladd Yes that’s the correct attendance. As in exactly. Not rounded off a bit. Like I said, this is one heck of a huge crowd and they’re all standing outside to watch Hulk Hogan vs. Paul Orndorff in a major grudge match for the title. The only other match worth anything on the show is a Snake Pit match (meaning anything goes) between Jake Roberts and Ricky S..

Wrestling World Says Goodbye To Paul Orndorff

Saying goodbye. The wrestling world is a fairly tight knit group and it hurts a lot when the industry loses one of its own. It can be made even harder for some when it is a wrestler that the fans have grown to respect over the years, which was the case with the latest big name to pass away. Now it is time for some people to say their last goodbyes, which have come in fast. Mr. Wonderful Paul Orndorff passed away on Monday at the age of 71. Throughout his career, he wrestled just about everywhere, including for the WWF, where he headlined the first WrestleMania. He also spent a considerable amount of time in the NWA/WCW, meaning that he had quite the set of credentials on his resume. Several wrestlers and companies have sent out their condolences and memories of Orndorff. AEW joins the wrestling world in mourning the passing of a true legend, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff. “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff Passes Away At Age 71

We have some sad news to report today, as WWE Hall of Famer “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff has passed away at the age of 71. From WWE.com: Orndorff was a standout running back at the University of Tampa and joined Mid-Southern Wrestling after a brief stint in the World Football League. Early rivalries with Jerry Lawler, Ted Dibiase and Jake “The Snake” Roberts gave way to NWA North American Heavyweight and National Heavyweight Championship reigns. Orndorff joined WWE in 1983 and was tabbed with the “Mr. Wonderful” nickname by his then-manager “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. With his awe-insipring in-ring style and umatched swagger, “Mr. Wonderful” turned his talent into a prototype for the modern-day Superstar. He made a memorable debut on January 23, 1984, with a win over Salvatore Bellomo at Madison Square Garden and launched right into the main event picture with matches against World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan. Mr. Wonderful achieved sports-entertainment immortality by competing alongs..

VIDEO: An NXT Stable Got A Lot Smaller After This Week’s Show

It was nice while it lasted. Stables are one of the best ways to get a lot of people on television at once. With so many wrestlers around WWE, you can only get so many people doing something at the same time. Even the most famous stable in history, the Four Horsemen, were created because they were thrown into the same interview due to a time crunch. One such stable seems to have taken a big hit after a bad loss. While it is not the most serious stable in the world, the Robert Stone Brand has been a rather entertaining group over the last few weeks. Stone has been a wonderfully goofy manager and has a few women to fight his battles for him. This includes Aliyah and Mercedes Martinez, the latter of whom has been helping Stone fighting off Rhea Ripley. That may not be the case any longer. It didn’t go well. Check out what happened after NXT: This week on NXT, Ripley defeated Martinez inside a steel cage, during which Stone had been attacked by Ripley. WWE has released a video from aft..

ROH star Cheeseburger was the latest guest on James Walsh’s Interactive Wrestling Radio where he discussed what his relationship with Chris Jericho is, among other topics. On taking part in the ECWA Super 8 Tournament: “Oh, I had a blast. That was definitely one of the things on my bucket list. I, unfortunately, lost in the first round to a great competitor, Anthony Greene. I’ve been wanting to have a singles match with him for a very long time. It was a wonderful experience just knowing the history of the tournament, getting to be a part of the opening ceremony and them talking about the previous winners. It was a great experience.” On other items on that bucket list: “The list that I put out, there was like 1 or 2 things. I’m a big fan of wrestling tournaments. The Super 8 was one, the Young Lions cup for CHIKARA which I have done was another, King of Trios for CHIKARA is another one, CZW’s Best of the Best, and the IWA Mid South TPI Tournament. That one is a big one on my list. Ano..

How Did Ultimate Deletion Do within the Ratings?

Not quite WONDERFUL! We’re firmly on the Road to Wrestlemania and that means each show is getting more and more important. Things are starting to get set up for the show and that means everything needs to be handled with care. That included last night’s “Monday Night Raw”, which featured the Ultimate Deletion. It was very different, but how many people were interested? Miss last night’s show? Here are some quick highlights: [This post contains video, click to play] According to 411mania.com, this week’s episode of “Monday Night Raw” drew a 1.16 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 3.324 million viewers. The rating is the same as last week’s and down less than one percent from last week’s 3.352 million viewers. Aside from the Ultimate Deletion, the other major story was an update on John Cena challenging the Undertaker. Here are last night’s results. Opinion: All in all, this isn’t bad. The Ultimate Deletion was a big draw and it’s nice to see that it was almost the same level of..

The Taz Show Recap – Money in the Bank Analysis, Mahal Needs A New Finisher, Was the Women’s Ladder Match Historic? More!

Block 1:

Taz gets right into his analysis of last night’s Money in the Bank PPV.

He thought the opening package before the Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match was terrific. It did a wonderful job of paying tribute to women who paved the way for today’s performers, while also highlighting each woman who was participating in last night’s ladder match.

He thought all five women worked hard in the match, but in the end, Taz questions whether this match lived up to it’s ‘historic’ nature. Carmella’s victory is tainted by the fact that James Ellsworth physically climbed the ladder and unhooked the briefcase for her. Taz thinks it’s a shame that in the first ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match, a man was the one to retrieve the briefcase.

Taz thinks that WWE needs to address Carmella’s victory on this Tuesday’s episode of Smackdown Live and he truly believes that they will. He suggests that Shane McMahon should appear on RAW tonight to announce a Money in the Bank rematch for tomorrow night’s Smackdown Live. Having Shane appear on the opposing brand to make this announcement will make this feel like a very important moment, and Taz ultimately thinks that Carmella will lose this briefcase one way or another on Tuesday night.

In spite of all the controversy surrounding the finish, Taz thought that these five women earned a lot of people’s respect last night, and they raised the bar for all women entering a WWE ring moving forward.

John Cena on How Many Title Runs He Has Left

John Cena spoke with WSVN-TV promoting the upcoming second season of American Grit. Highlights are below:

If he wrestled the entire match at WrestleMania 33 with the engagement ring in his pocket: “There are some secrets that should be kept secret my friend. That one’s for me to know. I like the fact that a lot of folks ask me where I kept the ring. I know where I kept it and I think that’s a secret I’ll keep with me.”

What to expect from his WWE return: “I just want to get back in the fray. I think it’s a wonderful time to be a fan, to be a member of our WWE Universe. The rosters on both sides, SmackDown Live and Monday Night Raw, is packed with very capable, unbelievable superstars and I’m just waiting to get back into the mix and try to prove my worth once again.”

His interaction with Ric Flair immediately after tying his record at the Royal Rumble: “I have a longstanding friendship with Ric Flair. He’s been a mentor to me over the years. It was very important to me that he was there for me that night. He was nothing but encouraging, so honorable and so inspirational. He’s a wonderful guy and a lot of fun and I’m really happy that he was there. It was a great moment for all of us.”

How many more title runs he thinks he has left: “I truly don’t look at it like that. I just want to be able to be able to perform at an elite level. I know that at 40 years old and 15 years in the WWE now it’s been a long journey, longer than most. I have to find my grit every day to keep working hard to keep up with all of these young, strong guys. It truly is a young man’s game but I feel really good. I look forward to July 4th and I think everybody will see that I haven’t lost a step yet.”

Who he thinks he should pass the torch to: “I think it’s been passed without me. There’s a lot of folks who are currently doing a lot of damage on the roster. The show is thriving in my absence. I think it’s extremely competitive. I did win the 16th Championship at the Rumble but I was unfortunate in my first defense at Elimination Chamber and before that I hadn’t really been in the Championship picture for a while. I think the company is moving on quite well. I don’t know if there needs to be a formal anointment but they’re really doing well without me.”
