It might be a bit. Villains have a tricky job in wrestling, as they have to find a way to make the fans dislike them without being too good at what they do. Let the games begin. Multiple news outlets are reporting that NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre has filed three separate defamation lawsuits against Mississippi state auditor Shad White as well as national sports commentators Shannon Sharpe and Pat McAfee. Favre eventually paid the money back, but the state auditor demanded Favre also pay $228,000 in interest. Similar allegations were made in the lawsuit filed by Favre against former NFL punter and po..
The new history. There have been all kinds of moments and incidents throughout WWE history, some of which are more notable than others. Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestle Kingdom XVII Date: January 4, 2023 Location: Tokyo Dome, Tokyo, Japan Commentators: Kevin Kelly, Chris Charlton, Gino Gambino It’s time to go back to New Japan for a promotion that I have not looked at since last year’s Wrestle Kingdom. As tends to be the case with this show, I’m coming in mostly blind, save for knowing the wrestlers involved. The main event is Jay White defending the IWGP World Title against Kazuchika Okada, who he took the title from back in June. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Boltin Oleg ..
I remember him! Wrestlers are celebrities, but they have a bit of a strange status to them. While they are famous, they are famous for pretty much one thing. Occasionally they will be able to break through to the other side and gain fame for something else, which can open up some doors. That was on display this week, as a wrestling legend was unveiled on a competition show. AEW’s Chris Jericho was unveiled as the Bride on this week’s edition of the Masked Singer, where he was eliminated from the competition following his performance of Billy Idol’s “White Wedding”. This came a week after Jericho, then still masked, performed on the show and was identified by fans recognizing his voice. Jericho’s appearance on the show has not been mentioned in any way on AEW television. Jericho can do a lot. Check out his Masked Singer reveal and something else he is better known for: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This wasn’t a shock ..
He’s a big deal. There are certain wrestlers who make their returns and have an immediate impact. You can tell when you are seeing someone special and they change the way a promotion works. That can make for some very interesting moments and you can feel the change taking place. It is currently taking place in WWE and now we have some numbers to back it up. Bray Wyatt made his return to WWE at Extreme Rules in October, revealing himself to be the White Rabbit that had been teased for weeks leading up to the show. During WWE’s Q3 Earnings call, Triple H revealed that the White Rabbit story was credited with causing Extreme Rules’ viewership to rise 30%. In addition, the September 23 SmackDown saw a 20% viewership increase in the second hour on the thought the White Rabbit would be revealed. Wyatt has since been regularly appearing on SmackDown. Opinion: That is the kind of thing you do not get to see very often but it is cool to see one name getting credited with this kind of success...
Three on each side. We are coming up on one of the biggest WWE shows of the year with November 5’s Crown Jewel. The show will be taking place in Saudi Arabia as part of WWE’s working relationship with the kingdom. The events often feature major stars in showdowns, some of which have been built up for white awhile. Now another match has been set up for the show, featuring quite a bit of star power. This week on Monday Night Raw, a six man tag was announced for Crown Jewel, featuring AJ Styles and the OC against Judgment Day. The feud started last week when the OC returned to help Styles fight against Judgment Day after several weeks. As a result, Judgment Day issued the challenge, with Styles accepting for the team. The match is the second announced for the card, following Logan Paul challenging Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Title. Opinion: You almost had to know that this match was coming sooner or later so it makes sense to put it on the biggest upcoming show WWE has..
