That’s some heeling. Being a villain in wrestling can be rather difficult, as there is a very fine line to be walked between making the fans mad and going too far. A talented villain can make it work very well, but there are always going to be issues with crossing a line. Such a line might have been crossed this weekend, but the promotion did what they could to make up for it. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Gotcha: Surprise Heel Turn Takes Place At AEW Revolution During the main event of AEW Revolution over the weekend, Maxwell Jacob Friedman took a drink from a fan and threw it on a child. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, it turns out that the cup contained tequila, which Friedman did not know, thinking it was water. Amanda Huber (the widow of Brodie Lee) came out and sat with the fan and brought him backstage, where he was given signed merchandise and tickets to Dynamite in Sacramento, California this week. Tony Khan also reportedly spoke to Friedman about the incident. That didn’t ..
He’s not like everyone else. There is no one quite like Brock Lesnar in the history of professional wrestling. With his amateur skills, mixed martial arts training and pure strength, Lesnar is not someone who can be duplicated. WWE knows this and has presented him as one of the biggest stars in the company’s history. That does not mean Lesnar is immune to criticism though and now he is in a bit of hot water. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Blast From The Past: Cody Rhodes Hints At Bringing Back Winged Eagle WWE Title Lesnar took part in the Men’s Royal Rumble match last weekend but was eliminated by Bobby Lashley in less than three minutes. Following his elimination, Lesnar through the ring steps onto the announcers’ table and attacked a referee. According to Fightful Select, there was some heat on Lesnar over the reaction, as some of it was not planned. However, heat is said to be a subjective term for Lesnar, who is not expected to be in trouble over the incident. Lesnar has been on rampag..
NXT Date: January 24, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Booker T., Vic Joseph We are just over a week away from Vengeance Day with Grayson Waller challenging Bron Breakker for the NXT Title. That is going to include a lot of build this week as we get ready for the title match, but there is some other stuff to do as well. The good thing is that a lot of the card is ready so let’s get to it. We open with a video from Grayson Waller, showing him coming to the Performance Center and throwing a bottle of water at Bron Breakker to set off a big brawl. Indi Hartwell vs. Tiffany Stratton Hartwell knocks her off the apron to start fast before the bell rings. Back in and we officially start with Hartwell throwing Stratton around and getting two off a dropkick. Stratton gets sent outside but manages to snap the arm across the top. A slingshot splash gives Stratton one and we hit the armbar. That’s broken up and Hartwell hits a spinebuster for two before a ..
The build continues. There are all kinds of ways to set up a wrestling match, with some of them being a bit more unique than others. This can include various angles and moments between the wrestlers involve, some of which can take place in different areas. With the advent of various modern technology, it can be easier than ever to film something outside of an arena and that took place again this week. WWE NXT recruit Alexis Lete uploaded a video to her Instagram page where she talked about a series of drills. As she was talking, Grayson Waller and NXT Champion Bron Breakker got into an incident, which included Waller throwing a water bottle. This caused the two to get into a fight, with officials having to break it up. Waller is scheduled to challenge Breakker for the NXT Title at Vengeance Day on February 4. Things got intense. Check out the fight, plus who got into it: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video,..
That’s not good. WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently told a story on his podcast on AdFreeShows.com, about how he almost drowned on a recent vacation to Florida. Angle said the following: “We went to Miami, Florida,” Angle said. “The temperature was 80 degrees. We spent so much time on the beach. They had a wonderful pool at the hotel. It was a blast. I actually took my kids jet skiing. My first kid that I put on the back for me to ride them because they’re too young to drive themselves, I put her on the back and we went out, and when I went to make a turn, I slowed down and stopped, I wanted to make a turn and I didn’t put the accelerator on when I was turning and we flipped over. We went into the ocean.” “Now, Thank God my daughter is like an Olympic-caliber swimmer. I even had the safety vest on me, but it wasn’t working. I was still sinking. I can’t swim. So I’m in trouble. I couldn’t get above water. I was going under. My daughter kept her composure. The jet ski got away from..
It’s time for Survivor Series and for the first time in years, there is a feeling of interest about the show. Instead of the completely dead in the water Raw vs. Smackdown Battle For Brand Supremacy, WWE has thrown their old ideas out the window and brought in a pair of WarGames matches. That alone should be enough to carry the show and….well there are only three more matches so WarGames is kind of carrying things. Let’s get to it. AJ Styles vs. Finn Balor I would have bet on this being the elimination match but instead we’ll just have Judgment Day and the OC at ringside to make things more crowded. Then again, I think I can go with the idea of Balor vs. Styles on a major show and likely getting a lot of time. That being said, Styles hasn’t won a singles match on pay per view in something like three years, so there might not be so much drama. Judgment Day has dominated the feud so far and it makes sense for them to do it again here, so I’ll go with Balor. At the end of the day, the O..
Time to pay it off. Wrestlers have a lot to do to get ready for their time in the ring and sometimes it can be a big overwhelming. It can help to have a little help with some of the more mundane tasks and some wrestlers can get that assistance. Two WWE stars were in one of those roles each as the result of a recent bet, and now we get to see just how far things went. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: Rey Mysterio Out Of Action With An Injury WWE has posted a video from backstage at this week’s SmackDown, where Drew Gulak had to do everything that Raquel Rodriguez told him to do throughout the day. This is the result of Gulak losing a World Series bet to Rodriguez when his Philadelphia Phillies lost to Rodriguez’s Houston Astros. As a result, Gulak had to do things such as open Rodriguez’s door, get her lunch, shine her boots and bring her water after her match. It’s certainly different. Check out what Rodriguez put Gulak through: [This post contains video, click to play] O..
That can cause trouble. A wrestling company’s locker room is like a family in a lot of ways, as the wrestlers see each other so often and are in the same place for such a long time on any given night. While they will often get along well enough, there are going to be some instances where problems come up. Now a wrestler’s comments appear to have gotten him in some hot water. Last Saturday, Braun Strowman defeated Omos at WWE Crown Jewel. Following the match, Strowman took to Twitter to mock wrestlers he described as “flippy floppers” as well as the concept of star ratings. According to Fightful Select, there is backstage heat on Strowman in WWE, as his comments were seen as being immature. There is nothing to suggest that this is an angle or will become an angle. Opinion: I can see how this might not go over so well as it is something that is only going to cause drama. Strowman is a very different style of wrestler who isn’t going to be including many flips, but that does not mean he..
You don’t see that every day. There are certain names in wrestling who have become some of the biggest stars of all time. You know these names as soon as anyone comes close to referencing them and WWE certainly has their share. It can be interesting to see one of them do something that is out of their nature and that is certainly what took place between two legends. Former WWE star Michelle McCool has posted a video of herself and her husband the Undertaker taking the Tortilla Challenge. The idea is that both have water in their mouth and, after playing a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, one of them hits the other in the face with a tortilla. McCool said they took the challenge due to their daughter insisting, with McCool spitting water in Undertaker’s face at the end anyway. It’s still weird to see. Check out Undertaker and McCool taking the challenge: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: After thirty years of Undertaker being the stoic, always in character star, it is..
Rampage Date: October 7, 2022 Location: Entertainment And Sports Arena, Washington DC Commentators: It’s the first half of a live double shot with a special Rampage. That should make the show a bit more interesting, which is a boost that is rather necessary around here. We have a Trios Titles match tonight, as the previously announced mask vs. career match has been canceled due to reasons of Andrade El Idolo. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Blackpool Combat Club vs. Rush/Private Party Regal calls Excalibur a caramel cheesecake that he would let melt in his mouth. Regal to Jericho: “I’d rather rip off my own eyelids and dip my head in hot soapy water than sit next to you.” The Firm is watching at ringside as Castagnoli takes Kassidy down with almost no effort to start. Yuta comes in as Jericho and Regal argue over how filthy and horrible Blackpool, England is. Kassidy gets sent down again so it’s off to Rush, who spits at Moxley and shakes his hair, which is enough to bring Moxle..
He’s a stunt guy. There are certain wrestlers who are best known for the stunts that they do rather than the matches that they have. During a match, you will see something take place that blows your mind but tends to be pretty run of the mill for whomever does it. Then there are some who do these kind of things outside of the ring and that has happened again for an AEW star. AEW’s Darby Allin has released a new video showing what he describes as a “slip and fall” off of a 92 foot waterfall into the water below. The video features Allin’s dive as two people watch from nearby, seemingly standing in the water. There is no indication of where the waterfall is located. Allin last wrestled on the Grand Slam edition of Rampage where he and Sting defeated the House of Black. Yeah this is a bit much. Check out Allin’s dive: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: As someone who is not quite comfortable with heights, this is about as terrifying of a concept as I can fathom. Allin ..
They don’t seem happy with him. There are no people in wrestling, or almost anywhere else for that matter, like Brock Lesnar. In addition to being one of the most successful WWE stars of all time and a champion in multiple other sports, Lesnar is known for his love of hunting and fishing. However, one of those things has landed him in some hot water, at least from some fans. Lesnar has posted a photo to Twitter showing him holding the head of a buck that he likely killed himself. The photo has resulted in a series of negative reactions from fans on Twitter, condemning Lesnar for killing the animal. Lesnar has not responded to the tweets. Lesnar last wrestled for WWE at Summerslam in July and is expected to return to the ring at Crown Jewel in November. A new recent pic of Brock Lesnar living his absolute best life outside of wrestling. pic.twitter.com/pQw72YY5kA — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) September 21, 2022 By killing animals? That’s a serious situation. Back in 2021, WWE announced the Next In Line program, which was designed to find non-wrestling athletes and bring them into the WWE system, with the chance of eventually becoming WWE stars. The program has brought in several prospects, but now one of them is facing some very serious legal issues that could change his career path in a huge way. According to the Oklahoman, WWE NIL signee and former Oklahoma State University wrestler AJ Ferrari is facing a charge of felony sexual battery with a warrant being issued for his arrest. Ferrari was accused of holding a woman down in Stillwater, Oklahoma on July 2 and performing unwanted sexual acts on her. The woman filed an emergency protective order against Ferrari three days later. WWE has not commented on the situation or on Ferrari’s future with the NIL program. Opinion: That is a very serious charge and if the accusations against him are true, I cannot imagine he is going to have much of a future with WWE. Fe..
We are living in a brand new reality in wrestling and that is going to take some getting used to over the next….well years probably. Following the retirement (or forcing out, whichever you prefer) of Vince McMahon, WWE is officially in uncharted waters and the boss is not there to steer the ship. That could create a lot of problems, but that certainly wasn’t the case this week. This week’s Monday Night Raw featured the fallout from Summerslam and happened to be one of the best editions of the show that I have seen in a LONG time. The show felt quite a bit different that anything Monday Night Raw had done in years and you could tell that there was a breath of fresh air to the whole thing. That was the case for a lot of reasons and we are going to look at some of the bigger ones this week. Note that this isn’t meant to be exhaustive, but rather the things that stood out to me the most. The biggest change that stood out was the wrestlers were acting more like humans. How often have you ..
What about him? The biggest wrestling story of the year, and also perhaps the biggest in several years, has been that of Vince McMahon stepping back from his role as WWE CEO and Chairman of the Board. This comes after McMahon was investigated for an alleged affair with a WWE employee, but McMahon was not the only name mentioned. So what about the other person? The story on the investigation into McMahon included a statement saying that he passed the employee over to John Laurinaitis “like a toy”. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Laurinaitis was not present at this week’s SmackDown, but he was never scheduled to be in the first place. Should he not appear as scheduled next week on Monday Night Raw, it would be seen as a very bad sign for his future. Opinion: Laurinaitis has been a bit of a wild card in this whole thing as McMahon has gotten the attention, as he should have. However, Laurinaitis is likely going to be in some very hot water of his own and I’m really not sure if he..
The champ has been here for a long time. WWE has announced that June 2022 will be John Cena month and that the company will be celebrating the superstar to honor the 20th anniversary of his debut. You can see his debut match below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: WWE was forever changed on June 27, 2002, when a then-unknown powerhouse by the name of John Cena stormed onto SmackDown for the very first time. Answering an open challenge issued by Kurt Angle, Cena boldly declared himself an agent of “ruthless aggression” before paint-brushing The Olympic Gold Medalist across the face. The rest, as they say, is history. Sixteen World Title reigns, countless Attitude Adjustments, and numerous Hollywood blockbusters later, Cena’s debut remains a watershed moment in sports-entertainment lore, the introduction of arguably the biggest Superstar of the modern era, if not WWE history. In honor of the upcoming 20-year anniversary of that seminal night, WWE is paying ..
That’s certainly a way to go. There are a lot of ways to present a match to draw in the fans’ attention, though some of them are a little less conventional. Sometimes you will see someone doing something very different, which may or may not be the best idea. That was the case again this week, and thankfully it did not go nearly as badly as it could have given the danger included. Over the weekend, former AEW star Joey Janela wrestled a match against Drew Parker at GCW’s Maniac event. During the match, Janela set his boot on fire for a superkick to Parker but was unable to put the fire out. Several bottles of water were thrown into the ring to douse the flames, which were eventually put out. Janela was burned, but there is no word on the extent of his injuries. This is a different kind of injury. Check out what happened (contains some strong language): [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: What do you even say to this? Janela burned his foot because he lit it on fire as..
They do have a plan. There are a lot of titles in WWE at the moment and that can cause some issues as having too many people carrying championships can water down their status. That seems to be the case again in WWE, at least in a certain division, so WWE seems to be doing something about it. At least in theory that is, as they might have a way out of the change. One of the original main events for WrestleMania Backlash was to have seen Raw Tag Team Champions RKBro vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions the Usos in a title unification match. The match was eventually changed to a non-title six man tag, though RKBro mentioned the match again on Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania Backlash. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is still planning to have the match, but no title change is planned, meaning some sort of no contest or double countout/double disqualification is expected. There is no word on when the match will take place. Opinion: I would like to believe that WWE has something..
Sounds like a future to me. WWE has a huge roster, but unfortunately it is nowhere near as big of a lineup as it used to be. That is the kind of change that can make things all the more confusing and difficult for the regular television shows, but WWE has to figure something out after all of the changes. In theory that might mean some NXT stars moving up to the main roster, and now we might be seeing that happen, at least in the short term. Last week’s edition of NXT saw Dolph Ziggler make a surprise appearance on the show. Ziggler seemed to insert himself into the NXT Title picture but former NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa disagreed and got in a fight with Ziggler. Ciampa appeared on this week’s Monday Night Raw, doing commentary during a tag match between Ziggler and Robert Roode against the Street Profits. The match ended when Ciampa threw water on Ziggler, allowing the Street Profits to get the pin. Following the match, Ziggler took Ciampa out with a superkick. There is no word on a ..
