She’s not having it. Wrestlers are celebrities in a unique way, as while they are certainly known to the public, they are rarely known for anything but their time in the ring. That does not offer them many options for getting their name out there otherwise, but it does happen occasionally. Now we are seeing it again as a WWE star had a moment that is likely to get her noticed. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hi There: International Star Makes Official WWE Debut Liv Morgan was a guest at Tuesday’s New York Knicks game in Madison Square Garden to promote WWE’s upcoming live event in the same venue. During the night, Morgan was acknowledged as a guest of the team and presented with a customized Knicks jersey with her name on the back. Also during the night, Morgan was shown watching the game while a fan spoke to her, but she barely acknowledged anything he said. The Knicks’ Twitter account shared the clip, saying Morgan definitely did not hear a word of what was said to her. View this post on I..
That’s worth celebrating. There are all kinds of wrestlers on the WWE roster and they portray several different characters. Watching any given WWE show offers a big mixture of different looks, styles and personae, but it can be fascinating to see them mix together. One thing they all have in common is that they do other things once the cameras stop rolling, which was the case in a big way recently. Fan participation. There are a lot of factors in wrestling, but ultimately, the most important thing is to please the audience. If the fans do not care or are not happy with what they are seeing, they are not likely to keep watching later. One of the best ways is to give the fans a connection to what they are watching, which very well may have been the situation at a recent live event. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: What Could Have Been: How WWE Changed Plans For WrestleMania 39 Title Matches WWE ran a live event in Champaign, Illinois on Saturday night, featuring a United States Title match with Austin Theory defending against Seth Rollins. During the match, Rollins sent Theory outside and grabbed his arms. As per Rollins’ request, a young fan hit Theory, who staggered away as a result. Rollins then high fived the fan and continued with the match, which he went on to lose. This was pretty great. Check out what happened during the match, plus the two in a match elsewhere: [This post contai..
He isn’t a fan. Over the last few years, AEW owner Tony Khan has gone from little more than a fan to one of the more important players in the wrestling world. Khan not only helped found AEW but has also purchased Ring Of Honor. That is the kind of move that almost never takes place in wrestling but Khan made it work. Khan also maintains quite the Twitter presence and it came up again this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: A Big One: WWE Reportedly Believes They Can Sign Kenny Omega This week on SmackDown, combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani made an appearance in the crowd, hyping up Sami Zayn’s speech later in the show. Khan mentioned the appearance on Twitter, calling Helwani “a fraud” and saying he was as legitimate of a reporter as AEW’s Tony Schiavone. Helwani responded later in the night, thanking Khan for watching and saying he “can’t wait for our next chat”. Helwani also told Schiavone not to listen to Khan. This comes after Khan appeared on Helwani’s show last year and refused ..
Mutual respect. After Smackdown went off the air this past week, WWE shot and released some footage of Santos Escobar and Rey Mysterio backstage. They showed mutual respect for each other, as well as exchanged Lucha masks. You can see the clip below: [This post contains video, click to play] Both Escobar and Mysterio competed in a Fatal-4-way match to determine the No. 1 contender for the Intercontinental Championship. Both Escobar, Mysterio, along with Karrion Kross would come up on the losing end of the battle, while Madcap Moss would pick up the victory. He will face Gunther next week for the championship. In the clip, Escobar talked about being a little kid and watching Mysterio with his father. Escobar said all he wanted was to take Mysterio’s legacy and make it his and then talked about the respect he has for Mysterio for being “all about lucha.” Both men exchanged masks to show mutual respect. Editor’s Opinion: This is very cool, as I know how much Lucha means to both sup..
Ouch! There are all kinds of injuries in the wrestling world and some of them can come out of nowhere. While several injuries are the result of years of wear and tear, occasionally you will see someone get hurt in the blink of an eye. Some of the worst instances of this involve injuries that are obvious to anyone watching, which was the case again this weekend with a nasty looking situation. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hand Them Over: Multiple New Champions Crowned At NXT Vengeance Day The opening match of this weekend’s NXT Vengeance Day saw Wes Lee successfully defend the North American Title against Dijak. Thirty years in the making! Wrestling is a lot of things, but ultimately it is a business, with the main idea being to get people to watch. Without fans watching, there is not going to be much of a future to the place. Drawing an audience is what matters most at the end of the day and now the biggest wrestling company in the world has set a new record when it comes to drawing in money through fans. Rampage Date: December 16, 2022 Location: Curtis Culwell Center, Garland, Texas Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone We’re almost done with the year and the interesting point here came from Tony Khan, who promised to put in some more effort on this show. I’m not sure what that is going to mean, but the card certainly does look to be a bit bigger than usual. That might not last beyond a week or two, but I’ll take what I can get. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Sammy Guevara Tay Melo is here too. Guevara knees him in the face to start and bites away in the corner. That earns Guevara a clothesline to the floor as we see Daniel Garcia, now under Guevara’s tutelage, watching in the back. Moxley is happy with fighting outside and loads up a chair, only to be sent back inside. That’s fine with Moxley, who grabs a jumping cutter into a superplex for two. Guevara manages to backflip over him though and hits a dropkick out to the floor. A hard stomp on the apro..
The quick reveal. There are certain angles in wrestling that come up every so often and will work pretty much every time. One of the best is a mystery, as it gives the fans a reason to keep watching to see where things are going. However, there are also instances where the reveal is given very quickly, which was the situation this week as the mystery lasted about an hour. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: You Can See Him: John Cena Set For Huge Tag Match On December 30 SmackDown The opening match of this week’s SmackDown saw Tegan Nox and Liv Morgan challenging Damage Ctrl for the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Late in the match, a mystery woman in black attacked Nox, ultimately costing her team the match. Security took the mystery woman away and, in a digital exclusive, she was revealed as SmackDown star Xia Li. WWE executive Adam Pearce ordered her into his office to end the video. What a short form saga. Check out how the reveal and the match went: [This post contains video, click to play] [Th..
Last week on Dynamite, MJF and Ricky Starks had a match that tore the house down. The storytelling was fantastic, the action was great, and the build up leading into the match made me very emotionally interested to see what was going to happen. This was Starks’ breakout match, and I hope it leads to him being a main event player in AEW for a long time. However, as I was watching the show the last week, I realized something very, very important. And it’s something that could be the foundation for how AEW operates in the future. In my opinion, the future of AEW does not involve ex-WWE talent, but rather the stars it is creating on its own. I’ve said for a long time that Tony Khan has relied too much on talent from other promotions that were either released, or decided to leave, because they thought the grass would be greener on the other side. As we’ve seen with AEW’s booking, as well as how the superstars have been used, nothing could be further from the truth. We don’t know what we ..
Rampage Date: December 9, 2022 Location: H-E-B Center, Cedar Park, Texas Commentators: Jim Ross, Excalibur, Tony Schiavone We are a day away from Ring Of Honor Final Battle and odds are we are going to be seeing some of the very last build to the show. Other than that we have what should be a heck of a match between Konosuke Takeshita vs. Jon Moxley and Orange Cassidy defending the All-Atlantic Title against a mystery challenger. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Jon Moxley vs. Konosuke Takeshita Moxley takes him down by the arm to start before it’s time to stand and trade chops. With that not working, Moxley bites Takeshita’s head in the corner and then chops some more. With Don Callis watching, Takeshita sends him outside and over the barricade as we take a break. Back with Moxley (bleeding) getting two off a piledriver but getting caught with a heck of a clothesline. Takeshita sends him to the apron, setting up a slingshot DDT for two back inside. What looked like a Blue Thunde..
He’s not a fan. We are moving away from Survivor Series, which was one of the biggest shows of the year. The card featured a variety of matches and stars up and down the show, some of which were better than others. With so many people watching the show, there are going to be some who like it more than others, and in this case, a former WWE employee was not happy with what he saw. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Considers Special Legend Shows For WrestleMania 39 One of the matches at Survivor Series saw Ronda Rousey successfully defend her SmackDown Women’s Title against Shotzi. During the latest edition of the Wrestling With Freddie podcast, former WWE creative team member Freddie Prinze Jr. blasted the match, calling it “the single worst match I have seen in I don’t know how long”. Prinze Jr. said that it was not Shotzi’s fault, but rather blaming Rousey for her wrestling getting worse, suggesting that she is either not trying or is incapable of making things work. Here..
NXT Date: November 22, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Vic Joseph, Booker T. We’re on the way to Deadline and that means we need to add some people to the card. There are five spots each for the Iron Survivor matches and all of them need to be filled. Other than that, we could use some matches of any kind and that is where we probably start tonight. Let’s get to it. Opening recap. Here is Toxic Attraction for a chat. Mandy Rose brags about keeping the Women’s Title last week, saying another one bit the dust. Now NXT has to set up this Iron Survivor Challenge to find a new contender for her title and she’ll be watching closely. Rose brags about their success but here are Kayden Carter and Katana Chance to interrupt. Carter mocks the idea of Rose doing everything herself and suggests that Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin will bail as soon as Rose loses the title. That’s enough for the fight to be on with Toxic Attraction dominating due to the numbers a..
No one else could do it. There are some very talented people in wrestling and it can be fascinating to see them do their thing either in the ring or on the microphone. At the same time though, they have several other talents that you might not consider while watching them in the ring. Now one of the more prominent AEW stars is using her abilities outside the ring to help her home promotion.
