REVIEW: WrestleMania 7: Stars And Stripes And More Stars

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Wrestlemania VII Date: March 24, 1991 Location: Los Angeles Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California Attendance: 16,158 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Bobby Heenan It’s the Gulf War show, as Hulk Hogan is fighting to get the WWF Title back from former American hero turned Iraqi sympathizer Sgt. Slaughter. If that sounds like one of the worst ideas for a Wrestlemania main event ever, you have quite the memory for these things. Other than that we have Randy Savage vs. Ultimate Warrior in a match that actually belongs i..

WATCH: The Miz Explains His Plans To Lose The Intercontinental Title To The Ultimate Warrior

That would have been different. There are several titles under the WWE banner these days and some of them are among the most important championships in wrestling history. Some of those former champions are quite the legends of the company and it means a lot for them to show up every so often. Now a current WWE star is revealing a plan he had to honor one of those former champions. In a recent post on TikTok, Miz talked about a plan he had to drop the Intercontinental Title to the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania. While he held the title, Miz wanted to defeat all former Intercontinental Champions at WrestleMania in a gauntlet lumberjack match. The Warrior would enter as a surprise final entrant and defeat Miz to win the title in short order. Miz said he tried to make this happen but could never pull it off. Warrior was a two time Intercontinental Champion, having held the title twice from 1988-90. This could have been different. Check out Miz’s announcement, plus the two champions fig..

REVIEW: Royal Rumble 1991: That’s Not Very Patriotic

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Royal Rumble 1991 Date: January 19, 1991 Location: Miami Arena, Miami, Florida Attendance: 16,000 Commentators: Gorilla Monsoon, Roddy Piper So it’s 1991 now and the US is at war (kind of). Therefore, the main event here, other than the Rumble of course, is Warrior defending the world title against Slaughter. This is a major changeover from the old Rumble formula which was a bunch of nothing matches followed by the big battle royal to close the show. Well at least on PPV that is. This would become the norm after this..

Double Ouch: Two AEW Stars Reportedly Injured

It can happen to anyone. There are all kinds of injuries that can slow a wrestler down out of nowhere and unfortunately there is very little that can be done to prevent them. While wrestlers can train and practice all they want, there is always the chance that something could go wrong. Unfortunately that seems to have happened to a pair of AEW stars in rapid succession. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Triple Shot: Three Big New Matches Added To AEW Full Gear Card According to new reports, two AEW stars are injured. First, according to Wrestling Observer Live, Luchasaurus may have suffered some sort of arm injury. Last week on Dynamite, Luchasaurus used a left armed chokeslam on Jungle Boy. There is no word on his condition, but he is currently scheduled to face Jungle Boy in a cage match This Saturday at Full Gear. REVIEW: Halloween Havoc 1998: Time’s Up

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Halloween Havoc 1998 Date: October 25, 1998 Location: MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada Attendance: 10,663 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mike Tenay, Bobby Heenan We’re FINALLY here after six weeks of buildup. It’s a double main event with Warrior and Hogan in the battle for Hollywood’s sanity and ego as well as Diamond Dallas Page challenging Goldberg for the World Title. However the show is remembered far more for something that had nothing to do with the wrestling. Let’s get to it. The open..

REVIEW: WrestleCon USA vs. The World 2022: The Better Version

WrestleCon: USA vs. The World Date: April 2, 2022 Location: Fairmont Hotel, Dallas, Texas Commentators: Ian Riccaboni, Veda Scott This is about as obvious of an idea as you can get: take a bunch of wrestlers from WrestleCon weekend and put them in a bunch of matches, one country vs. the rest. This show has a tendency to be one of the weaker of the WrestleCon offerings but there are some talented people on the card. Let’s get to it. Warrior Wrestling Lucha Libre Title: Sam Adonis (USA) vs. La Hiedra (World) vs. Mr..

Reassigned: High Profile Name No Longer Part Of WWE Creative

Fare thee well. WWE has a lot of people working together to make their events work. That is the kind of thing that is easier said than done, and it can be difficult to find the right mixture of names. This includes putting together all of the stories that you see the matches built around, but it seems that a fairly high profile member of the team has been gone for quite some time. According to PWInsider.com, Dana Warrior left the WWE creative team several months ago, ending a run that started in early 2019. Warrior, the widow of Hall of Famer the Ultimate Warrior, had mainly been working from home and was not on the road with WWE. She will continue to work full time with the community relations and community outreach teams, meaning there is nothing to suggest there is heat between the two sides. Opinion: Warrior’s name hadn’t come up much in recent months so this isn’t the biggest shock. While she may have seemed like a weird hire for the creative team, there is nothing to suggest th..

REVIEW: Summerslam 1992: The British Classic

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Summerslam 1992 Date: August 31, 1992 Location: Wembley Stadium, London, England Attendance: 80,355 Commentators: Vince McMahon, Bobby Heenan Most of the older editions are in need of an update so we’ll knock out this one. This is one of the biggest crowds in wrestling history and they’re in for a pretty major show. We have a double main event of Randy Savage defending the WWF Title against the Ultimate Warrior and the instant classic of Bret Hart vs. British Bulldog for the Intercontinental Title. Guess what’s he..

Controversial Star Returning To Wrestling After Nearly Two Year Absence

Welcome back? While WWE and AEW get most of the attention, there are a lot of other talented wrestlers performing elsewhere. That can open the door for a lot of fans to see stars that they new knew before, but sometimes these other promotions have stars that you have seen somewhere before. It seems to be the case again, and now a seemingly blackballed star is on her way back. Hurricane Pro Wrestling in Beaumont, Texas has announced that Tessa Blanchard will be appearing at their event on July 16. There is no word on what Blanchard will be doing on the show, though she is featured in the center of the post. Blanchard has not wrestled since September 12, 2020 for Warrior Wrestling. Since then, she has been living in Mexico with her husband Daga, following allegations of racist statements against a wrestler in Japan. She had been announced as part of the revival of Women Of Wrestling but her association fell through after a disagreement with the promotion. HPW – Sat July 16 – @FordPark,..

First Match Set For Forbidden Door

The door is beginning to open. On tonight’s episode of Dynamite, we may have gotten a glimpse of the first match set for the upcoming AEW/NJPW crossover event, “Forbidden Door.” In the opening match of the show, CM Punk and FTR defeated the team of Max Caster and The Gunn Club. After the match, Punk cut a promo saying that it was time to begin selling the upcoming pay-per-view. He then issued an open challenge to anybody from NJPW to face him at the show. This brought out 8-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi, who seems to have accepted the challenge and will face Punk at Forbidden Door. Editor’s Opinion: A lot of people think that it was going to be either Okada or maybe Jay White that would be facing Punk, but Tanahashi is an excellent choice. Widely regarded as one of the best professional wrestlers of all time, this clash of styles should make for an outstanding mean event in a great way to sell the show. I’m looking forward to seeing these two warriors go at it! ..

Former WWE Star Ahmed Johnson Talks Who He Would Want To Face Today

There’s a name out of the past. There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and several of them seem to go away without much of a peep. It can be interesting to think about what someone would do if they had stuck around in the industry and wonder where they would fit in today. Now a star of the past is talking about what he would like to do today. Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson was a guest on the Iron-On Wrestling podcast and mentioned that he would like to face Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley of today’s roster. In addition, Johnson said that he had wanted to face Sid Vicious or the Ultimate Warrior of the roster from his career. Johnson appeared for WWE from 1995-1998 before leaving the company after a series of injuries. Opinion: I was a huge fan of Johnson back in the day and it would indeed have been fun to see him face one of those powerhouses. Johnson was one of the more impressive stars of his day and it seemed like he was ready to become the..

LOOK: Another Special WrestleMania Entrance Was Cut From The Show

What could have been. WrestleMania has been the biggest wrestling event of the year for the better part of forty years now and that seems likely to be the case for a long time to come. Everyone seems to be working especially hard and showcasing everything that they can do, which can include all kinds of special features. That was to be the case with someone else this year, but it did not wind up happening. One of the matches on WrestleMania 38 Night One saw Drew McIntyre defeat Happy Corbin. A photo has been posted to Instagram, showing a group of men in kilts backstage at AT&T Stadium. The caption says that the group, called the Kilted Warriors, were supposed to accompany McIntyre to the ring but the entrance was canceled. This was not the only thing canceled on the show, as a match between the New Day and Ridge Holland/Sheamus was moved to the second night due to time constraints. WATCH: WWE Releases Touching Tribute To Shad Gaspard

He deserves the attention. We are well on our way to WrestleMania weekend and that means it is time to wrap up all of the preparations. In addition to WrestleMania itself, WWE presents the annual Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This includes a variety of wrestlers getting their recognition, including one special inductee each year. Now one of them is receiving some extra attention. WWE has released a tribute video to Shad Gaspard, who will posthumously receive the Warrior Award at this Friday’s Hall of Fame induction. Gaspard passed away via drowning after telling lifeguards to save his son instead. During his WWE career, Gaspard primarily wrestled in a tag team with JTG as part of Cryme Tyme, though he did compete as a singles wrestler as well. It’s a touching tribute. Check out WWE’s special look at Gaspard, narrated by ESPN’s Mark Krigel: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is one of those tributes that gets more emotional the more I think about it, as Gasp..

WWE Announces Special Hall Of Fame Inductee

It’s quite the honor. The WWE Hall of Fame is one of the longstanding parts of WrestleMania weekend, with inductions taking place almost every year since 2004. You get to see all kinds of stars from years past being honored for what they have done over the years, but there is also a special award for people in another category. Now we know something else about this year’s recipient. WWE has announced that Shad Gaspard will posthumously receive the Warrior Award at this year’s Hall of Fame induction. Gaspard passed away in 2020 as he drowned saving his son in the ocean. Since his death, several people in WWE have pushed for him to receive the award, which is designed to remember the spirit of the Ultimate Warrior. the ceremony Takes place on April 1 after SmackDown. Opinion: This is something that is overdue and rather appropriate for both Gaspard and the award. Gaspard seemed to be one of the nicest guys in wrestling and died saving his son, which is about as heroic as you can get. T..

WATCH: AEW’s Thunder Rosa Is Not Putting Up With Racist Fan Comments

That won’t go well. The fans are one of the most important parts of any wrestling show. While the wrestlers are the featured attraction, there is nowhere near as much energy without the fans around. Just look back at WWE’s shows in the Thunder Dome to see how much different things are without them. However, there are some lines that fans cannot cross, and that was done this weekend. Over the weekend at a Warrior Wrestling event outside of Chicago, AEW’s Thunder Rosa faced Athena (formerly known as Ember Moon in WWE). During the match, a fan reportedly shouted a racist statement to Athena, saying “tear her weave off”. Following the match, Rosa got on the microphone and told the fans to have some respect for the women who are putting their lives in danger during the matches. Rosa went on to say that fans who are disrespectful to the wrestlers in that way have no right to be at a show. Racist towards Athena (Ember Moon). WATCH: WWE Stars Help Make A Sick Fan’s Night Special

They’re good at that. Wrestlers have a difficult task, as they are asked to make fans believe what they are doing is real while also having a fully cooperative match. This is in addition to building up a character, which is often best done through promos and segments. Sometimes a wrestler makes it work very well, which is the case with some modern stars. However, some of them broke character for a rather nice reason recently. Jarrius Robertson, a WWE fan with a chronic live disease who has undergone two liver transplants, was in attendance at this week’s SmackDown. Various wrestlers acknowledged him throughout the night, including Roman Reigns, Big E. and Jimmy Uso, the latter of whom gave Robertson his shirt. Robertson is a longtime WWE fan and received the Warrior Award at the 2018 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This was pretty awesome. Check out some of the WWE roster interacting with Robertson: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to ..

AEW Star Out Of Action Due To A Concussion

That’s never good to hear. There are all kinds of possible injuries in wrestling and you never want to see someone put on the shelf. Some of them can take longer to overcome than others, as some do not have the easiest path to recovery. Unfortunately that can be the case with a lot of brain related injuries and that is the case with one wrestler who is still in recovery. According to Wrestlinginc.com, AEW’s Brian Pillman Jr. suffered a concussion during his tag team match with Griff Garrison against the Kings of the Black Throne this week on Dynamite. As a result, Pillman was forced to miss this weekend’s Warrior Wrestling event, with the promotion announcing Danny Bang as his replacement. There is no word on when Pillman will be cleared to return to the ring. Unfortunately, Brian Pillman Jr. is not medically cleared to compete tomorrow night in South Bend, so Chicago's hottest new rising star, the sensation of the Logan Square Auditorium…. A Lot Happened Before And After This Week’s SmackDown

It was a busy night. WWE has a lot of programming to offer every single week and it can be quite a bit. Sometimes it is hard to remember everything that is going on, which is not often the best way to go. There is not much of another way around it though, as there are so many wrestlers that sometimes WWE needs to use that much time. This week, they needed even more time than usual. According to Wrestling Inc., there were three non-televised dark matches during this week’s WWE SmackDown taping. Prior to the show, there were two NXT matches, as Johnny Gargano defeated Kyle O’Reilly and Amari Miller defeated Dakota Kai. After the show went off the air, Drew McIntyre and the Viking Raiders defeated the Bloodline. Of the six SmackDown wrestlers, only Jey Uso and Roman Reigns of the Bloodline did not wrestle twice on the night.
