AEW Honors Jay Briscoe In Dynamite’s Main Event

January 26, 2023

They will always be Dem Boys. Tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite featured a tribute to Jay Briscoe, as his brother Mark, made his AEW debut against their longtime friend and rival, Jay Lethal. This tribute match came just over a week after Jay Briscoe passed away in a car accident at the age of 38. Ironically, the show also happened to be taking place on what would have been Jay’s 39th birthday. The finish of the match came when Mark Briscoe connected with The Froggy Bow through the timekeeper’s table. He then rolled Lethal into the ring, and after a series of maneuvers, Briscoe planted Lethal with The Jay Driller to pick up the victory. Following the match, the entire AEW locker room came on stage and gave a round of applause to both competitors. Several of them also hugged Lethal as he came up to the top of the entrance ramp. WATCH: Injured WWE Star Starts “MASSIVE COMEBACK” After Nine Month Absence

He’s getting ready. Injuries are one of the worst things that can happen to a wrestler as you never want to see someone put on the shelf. There are all different kinds of injuries as well, with some putting a wrestler out for a few weeks and others taking months if not longer. Unfortunately the latter took place last year, but a star is already on his way back to the ring. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s Big: WWE Presents Stacked Lineup For Raw XXX At WrestleMania 38, Rick Boogs severely injured his knee in a tag match where he teamed with Shinsuke Nakamura against the Usos. Boogs tore his patella tendon and had to undergo surgery to repair the damage. In recent days, Boogs has posted a series of videos showing him training, with the first titled “Start Of A MASSIVE Comeback”. There is no word on when Boogs will be able to get back in the ring. Partner Up: Cody Rhodes Trains For WWE Return With Surprising Pair Of Names

That’s a special honor. One of the biggest WWE stories in 2022 was the return of Cody Rhodes. After being away from the company and wrestling around the world, including in AEW, Rhodes was back and started to take the company by storm. Rhodes would get hurt in June though, putting him on the shelf for the rest of the year. Now it seems that Rhodes is on his way back, and he has had some help getting there. REPORT: Stone Cold Steve Austin Not Training for a Match at WrestleMania 39

One of the bigger stories of the month has been WWE offering Stone Cold the chance to do another match down the line. It was not clear if they meant Austin doing something at a Crown Jewel event, or did they mean something for WrestleMania 39. The rumor mill got even hotter when videos of Stone Cold training came out on Instagram. People thought that after his great match in Dallas with Kevin Owens, he’d stepped up his training regiment to be ready for WrestleMania in Hollywood. The Texas Rattlesnake released his latest video on Instagram explaining his workout routine and addressing the “speculation” that has been built over his training. There’s a surprise. The wrestling world often sees stars moving from one promotion to the other at a rapid pace. While a good deal of these moves do not mean much, you will occasionally see a move that feels like it is a big deal due to the star power involved. That might have been the case this week, as a surprise named showed up somewhere he probably wasn’t expected. Former NXT Champion Johnny Gargano made a surprise appearance on this week’s Impact Wrestling. Gargano was one of several wrestlers who appeared in a series of videos praising Alex Shelley, who is challenging Josh Alexander for the World Title next month at Emergence. This was Gargano’s first appearance on a wrestling television show since leaving NXT in December 2021, though there is nothing to suggest that it is is anything more than a one off appearance. He Earned It: WWE Announces Special Tributes To Rey Mysterio For 20th Anniversary

He’s worth the time. There have been a lot of wrestlers in WWE over the years but only a few have reached the top tier. Those wrestlers are legends, with some of them being legends in their own time. It can be a lot of fun to see them active once they reach that level. We are seeing that today, and now WWE is dedicating a lot of time to one of those stars. WWE has announced the Month Of Mysterio, centered around Monday July 25 marking 20 years since Mysterio’s WWE debut. The month will include original videos on Mysterio’s career, comments from his peers and a special look at some of his masks. There will also be classic videos and rare photos released on WWE’s social media channels. Mysterio and his son Dominik are scheduled to confront Judgment Day next week on Monday Night Raw. WATCH: AEW Stars Appear On Monday Night Raw To Praise John Cena

They don’t go here. Twenty years ago Monday, John Cena made his WWE debut on SmackDown. What followed was one of the greatest careers in WWE history, as Cena has gone on to become one of the most decorated champions in the company’s history, as well as developed quite the film career. Now some of his peers are celebrating him, including some surprising names. This week’s Monday Night Raw was focused on Cena and his history with WWE. Throughout the show, various wrestling legends appeared in videos to praise Cena in one way or another. This included current WWE names such as Randy Orton and Stephanie McMahon, former WWE names such as Booker T. and Trish Stratus, plus some current AEW names, including Chris Jericho, Daniel Bryan and Big Show. With special guest stars! Wrestling companies come and go all the time and some of them take their leave without much fanfare. It can be quite impressive when a company manages to survive for a long time but even longer when they do so with some success. One major company was celebrating a milestone this weekend and they had some guest stars to help. Impact Wrestling held its Slammiversary pay per view this weekend in honor of the company celebrating twenty years since its debut. Several guest stars and surprises appeared on the show, including videos from Sting, AJ Styles and Kurt Angle. Also appearing were past company names such as David Young, Slash, Chase Stevens and Shark Boy, all of whom appeared in the Reverse Battle Royal on the Countdown show. WATCH: AEW Stars Rock Some Karaoke In Las Vegas (This Is AWESOME)

That’s a different side. Wrestlers are a lot of things but above all else, they are performers. These people go out in front of a crowd and do what they can do as well as anyone in the world. You can see some amazing talent from bell to bell, but there are also some talents that you do not get to see in the ring. Some of them were on display this weekend though in a rather fun way. During their time in Las Vegas for Double Or Nothing, several AEW wrestlers performed karaoke songs as part of AEW’s Fan Fest. This included names such as Bryan Danielson, Keith Lee, Rebel, Eddie Kingston, Adam Cole and more. Several of the names will be appearing on the Double Or Nothing pay per view this weekend. Ric Flair Reported Coming Out Of Retirement To Wrestle Again, Possible Opponents

One more time (again). There are certain wrestlers who seem like they cannot completely get out of the ring. While some of them will stay away for a long time and then come back one more time, there are some who seem like they cannot get away for good. That is the case with one certain all time legend, and now it seems that he will be getting back in the ring one more time. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Ric Flair is planning to come out of retirement and wrestle again. This comes after Flair has released videos showing himself working in the ring with AEW’s Jay Lethal. While not confirmed, the match would possibly be Flair teaming with FTR against the Rock N Roll Express and someone else. There is no word on when or where the match will take place. Flair, 73, last wrestled in 2011 on an episode of Impact Wrestling in a loss to Sting. He still has something. They’re trying something new. Commentary is one of the most important parts of any wrestling show as the broadcast team serves multiple roles. One of the most important is guiding the fans through the show on the road that the promotion wants them to take. That is something that can be difficult to do in the arena, but now WWE is trying something new with the idea. According to videos on Twitter, WWE tried an experience this week on SmackDown which saw commentary airing in the arena during commercial breaks throughout the TV show. Once the commercials ended, the commentary ended and the arena had no sound as usual. There is no word on if this is something that WWE will be regularly doing for shows going forward. WATCH: A Special Look Back At Triple H’s Career

He deserves it. There are a lot of wrestlers in the WWE’s long history but some of them have reached levels that others cannot approach. It means a lot when you see one of those wrestlers hang up their boots for good, as it means there will not be any new memories of them in the future. It also gives you a chance to look back at the things they did, and that is what WWE is doing again. Night Two of WrestleMania 38 opened with Triple H leaving his boots in the ring, signaling that he is retiring from wrestling. This comes after he suffered a heart issue in August of last year, leaving him unable to ever wrestle again. WWE Releases Amazing WrestleMania Spotify Playlist (This Is Great)

It’s one of the senses. WrestleMania 38 is less than a week away as WWE will reach its biggest show of the year. That is something that WWE has been doing for a long time now and that means there is quite a history built up. If there is one thing WWE knows how to do, it is hype up their own history, which is what they are doing again, albeit in a very specific way. WWE and BT Sports have released the Ultimate Wrestlemania Playlist on Spotify in honor of WrestleMania 38. The playlist features fifty songs, including various WrestleMania theme songs as well as other songs that have been used for WWE promotional videos over the years, along with theme songs for Monday Night Raw and SmackDown. Wrestling World Reacts To Big E.’s Injury

They have his back. An injury can be a terrible thing to see and some of them can be among the worst things to happen to a wrestler. In the blink of an eye, someone’s career and oftentimes life can be changed in an awful way, which leaves a lot of questions to be answered. One of the few positives to come out of this can be the outpouring of responses, which is the case again. This week on SmackDown, Big E. fractured two of the vertebrae in his neck when he was suplexed on the floor. He has since released a pair of videos updating fans on his condition, including an announcement that he will not need surgery. VIDEO: AEW Star Debuts Awesome New Music Video

It’s something else he can do. Wrestlers are very talented people as they have to find a way to balance a variety of things in any given match. Not only are they wrestling, but they are telling stories, protecting each other and making the fans buy what is being done. That is something difficult to do, but it is all the more impressive when they pull it off. Wrestlers have a lot of skills, and now another is showing what he can do outside of the ring. AEW’s Max Caster has released a music video for his new song Mixed Messages. The song is part of the Who We Are Volume 1 commemorative AEW album, with proceeds from the album going to the Bootsy Collins Foundation. Ring Of Honor Date: February 9, 2022 It’s a special theme episode this week as we look at the first inductees into the Ring Of Honor Hall of Fame: the Briscoes. When you think about it, there isn’t anyone else it should have been if you are just looking at accomplishments. There are all kinds of classic matches here and hopefully they open the vault a bit. WWE Has A New Plan To Keep Fans Watching Their Shows

It’s a WWE idea. Monday Night Raw has been on the air for almost twenty nine years with nearly fifteen hundred episodes. That is the kind of thing that is unparalleled in the wrestling industry, at least on this level. The show has had its ups and downs over the years, but it is always trying to find a way to draw in new viewers. Now they have another idea, but it might not be the most logical. Over the last several months, WWE has changed the way they present matches on Monday Night Raw or SmackDown. A wrestler comes to the ring and then the show will go to a commercial. When the show comes back, vignettes, videos or something similar will air before the match, leaving the wrestler in the ring for several minutes before the match begins. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, the idea is that presenting the top star will cause fans to want to stick around through the other segments. VIDEO: Hardys Reunion Following Jeff Hardy’s WWE Release

Welcome back? There are various wrestling families who get your attention no matter what they are doing. That can make for some good and bad moments, as you almost don’t know what you re going to get from time to time. In this case, a pair of wrestling brothers are back again, though in this case it comes after an incident that was not the greatest sight to behold. Last week, WWE officially released Jeff Hardy from his contract following an incident at a live event earlier in the month. Hardy was released after walking out on a match and refusing to go to rehab. Since his release, Hardy has appeared on his brother Matt’s YouTube channel in a pair of videos. In the first video, Matt discusses being the architect of the Hardy Boys team. Jeff appeared behind him, saying that he had been listening to Release Me by Wilson Phillips.
