REVIEW: Starrcade 2000: Scott Steiner Is A Scary Man

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over ten years now and have reviewed over 5,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net, starting today. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Starrcade 2000 Date: December 17, 2000 Location: MCI Center, Washington, D.C. Attendance: 6,596 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Scott Hudson We’ve uh…..arrived. It’s the final edition of WCW’s flagship show and it’s looking somewhere between a bad C show and a horribly unfunny joke. The main event is Scott Steiner (won the title three weeks ago) defending against Sid Vicious (not in the promotion three weeks ago). Such is life in the dying days of this company. Let’s get to it. Before we s..

Maybe Later: Grudge Match Officially Pulled From Summerslam Card Due To Injury

The card is subject to change. We are less than a week away from Summerslam and that means the card is mostly set up. There is not much time left to change things around but every now and then, WWE will wait for the last minute to switch things up, and that is the case again this time. Unfortunately, it seems to be that it is due to an injury to one of the wrestlers. This week on the Bump, it was announced that Seth Rollins vs. Riddle has been pulled from the Summerslam card. Riddle was injured during an attack from Rollins on Monday Night Raw, resulting in Riddle suffering a stinger. The match has officially been postponed, but according to Fightful Select, is scheduled to take place at Clash At The Castle. Riddle’s injury is storyline only and he is cleared to compete. BREAKING: @WWERollins injured @SuperKingofBros with a vicious attack on #WWERaw that resulted in a brachial plexus injury (a stinger). Riddle is medically disqualified until full strength returns. Due to this injury..

WWE Offers Medical Update On Two Banged Up Stars

They’re a bit banged up. WWE has a lot of television time available to them and it can be difficult to find ways to fill in all of that time. The company has several wrestlers available to help, but sometimes they need to make a few changes for the sake of a little freshening up. That seems to be the case again, as we might not be seeing a pair of stars, at least for a little bit. The main event of this week’s SmackDown saw the Usos defeat RKBro to unify the SmackDown and Raw Tag Team Titles. Following the match, the Bloodline attacked RKBro and laid both of them out, including putting Riddle through the announcers’ table. After the show, WWE released a medical update on Riddle and Randy Orton. Riddle has suffered a bruised hip and lower back while Orton will be undergoing a medical evaluation. There is no word on when the two will be back in the ring. UPDATE: @SuperKingofBros and @RandyOrton are undergoing medical evaluation following #TheBloodline's vicious attack on #SmackDow..

Former WWE Star Ahmed Johnson Talks Who He Would Want To Face Today

There’s a name out of the past. There have been a lot of wrestlers throughout WWE’s history and several of them seem to go away without much of a peep. It can be interesting to think about what someone would do if they had stuck around in the industry and wonder where they would fit in today. Now a star of the past is talking about what he would like to do today. Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson was a guest on the Iron-On Wrestling podcast and mentioned that he would like to face Brock Lesnar and Bobby Lashley of today’s roster. In addition, Johnson said that he had wanted to face Sid Vicious or the Ultimate Warrior of the roster from his career. Johnson appeared for WWE from 1995-1998 before leaving the company after a series of injuries. Opinion: I was a huge fan of Johnson back in the day and it would indeed have been fun to see him face one of those powerhouses. Johnson was one of the more impressive stars of his day and it seemed like he was ready to become the..

WATCH: Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns From Roadblock: End of the Line 2016

A true friend? WWE has posted a new video to their YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship from Roadblock: End of the Line 2016. You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Whether he was torn up about his strained relations with Chris Jericho or just looking to play mind games with Reigns, Owens started the contest by evading The Big Dog. That plan worked for a bit — until Reigns’ fist swiftly met the WWE Universal Champion’s face with a firm punch to the kisser. From there, The Guy and KO went back and forth in front of the WWE Universe in Pittsburgh, with momentum shifting several times over. KO seemed to have victory in hand when he dished out three vicious Frog Splashes (one onto the announce table, the second crashing him through it and the third in the ring for a near fall), but Reigns would not be derailed. Instead, The Big Dog rallied ba..

WATCH: Mandy Rose vs. Sonya Deville From SummerSlam 2020

Time to settle the score. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full No Disqualification match between Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville from SummerSlam 2020. The loser of this match would be forced to leave the company. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: Mandy Rose sent her ex-best friend packing, defeating Sonya Deville in a brutal No Disqualification Loser Leaves WWE Match. The Golden Goddess was more than ready to match Deville’s trademark viciousness, slamming her into the steel steps and ring post, as well as delivering a suplex on the ramp in the early going. The Pride Fighter struck with a huge pump kick, then used a steel chair as her equalizer while bad-mouthing Mandy relentlessly. Rose fought back and obliterated her former tag team partner with a trio of jumping bicycle knees, followed by an underhook facebuster. For good measure, she dropped Deville with one final knee..

WATCH: Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre From Stomping Grounds 2019

The future is now. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre from the Stomping Grounds 2019 pay-per-view. You can see the match in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: The brawl ensued before Reigns could even hit the ring, as the fervid rivals clobbered each other with one slug after another before taking the action inside the squared circle. After striking McIntyre to the outside, Reigns threw caution to the wind by going airborne and propelling from the ring and onto The Scottish Psychopath with a breathtaking clothesline that forced Shane McMahon to flee into the crowd. Intent on laying hands on Shane-O-Mac, Reigns gave chase but eventually found himself on the receiving end of a vicious attack by McIntyre. This distraction played a big part throughout this highly physical matchup with McMahon tugging the strings from outside the ring. After finally slowing..

WATCH: Edge vs. The Undertaker From WrestleMania XXIV (24)

The dead shall rise again. WWE has posted a new video to its YouTube channel in which they show the full match between Edge and The Undertaker for the World Heavyweight Championship from WrestleMania XXIV (24). You can see the video in its entirety below: [This post contains video, click to play] From WWE.com: During the contest, The Phenom delivered a relentless torrent of his signature moves, weakening his resistant rival. Edge, too, retaliated with just about every vicious hold and attack he could possibly muster. Clearly well-schooled and self-educated in the challenger’s stratagem, the Rated-R Superstar reversed key maneuvers and even kicked out of several pinfall attempts after Undertaker landed a number of typically deal-closing moves — including the Last Ride and even the Tombstone Piledriver. Following critical shifts in momentum and an attempt at his own Tombstone, the defending World Champion found some support from his Rated-R entourage. The Deadman managed to lay was..

SuperBrawl 2000 Date: February 20, 2000 Location: Cow Palace, San Francisco, California Attendance: 8,569 Commentators: Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden, Mike Tenay Well the TV shows have been some of the least interesting things I’ve ever had to sit through, so maybe the pay per view will be the complete opposite and be entertaining. I mean, stranger things have happened right? The main events tonight are Sid Vicious defending the World Title against Jeff Jarrett and Scott Hall in a three way, plus Hogan vs. Luger and Fu..

Roman Reigns’ Reaction to WWE Using His Leukemia in Storylines

When then-WWE Universal Champion Reigns announced he would be stepping away from the ring as his leukemia had returned, it shocked wrestling fans around the world. Later that same night, things took a turn. During the same night, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeated Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre to capture the RAW Tag Team Championship. Given the news of Reigns’ departure was heavy in the hearts of the audience, and those watching around the world, it was very much a feelgood moment. [This post contains video, click to play] With the whole world watching, Ambrose turned his back on Rollins, Reigns- and the WWE Universe as he viciously attacked his long-time friend and left him and the WWE Universe in a mess, as both he and WWE themselves were booed heavily. In an interview with Yahoo Sports, Reigns gave an insight into how he reacted to WWE’s decision to have Ambrose turn heel on the night of a very real and serious announcement. Reigns noted that he has conflicting emotions ..

Shane McMahon Hospitalized Following Assault on “Smackdown Live”

It’s a good thing he’s taking time off when he is. WWE.com has posted an update on Shane McMahon’s condition, after he was attacked by Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens two weeks ago on “Smackdown Live.” The assault came after he announced that he was taking a leave of absence as commissioner of the blue brand. You can see a clip of the incident below: [This post contains video, click to play] From the report: Shane McMahon is currently recovering from acute diverticulitis and an umbilical hernia in a New York-area medical facility, WWE.com has learned. Two weeks ago on SmackDown LIVE, McMahon announced he would be taking an indefinite leave of absence from his position as the blue brand’s Commissioner. Following that announcement, McMahon was brutally attacked by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. WWE medical staff initially diagnosed him with a laryngeal contusion and trapezius and rhomboid strains as a result of the beating. Following the vicious assault, McMahon went to the Caribbean with ..

Tyler Lemco’s High Risk Maneuver: The Shockmaster’s Debut 1993

In this episode of “High Risk Maneuver”, Tyler Lemco recounts one of the most infamous debuts in professional wrestling history, that of “The Shockmaster”. During a live segment hosted by Ric Flair at the Clash of the Champions XXIV, Sid Vicious and Harlem Heat confront Sting and Davey Boy Smith. They angrily demand to know the identity of the mystery partner who will replace an injured Road Warrior Hawk at Fall Brawl. Sting proclaims that “Our partner will shock the world because he is none other than The Shockmaster!” With a burst of pyrotechnics, Fred Ottman, sporting a glitter-encrusted Storm Trooper’s helmet, breaks through a wall and promptly stumbles and falls on his face. As the other wrestlers are heard laughing in the background, Ottman picks himself up, puts on his helmet and all attempt to save The Shockmaster’s irretrievably doomed debut. Here is Tyler Lemco’s entertaining recollection in this episode of “High Risk Maneuver”: [This post contains video, click to play] W..

Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Battleground Analysis, Corbin’s Sloppiness, WWE Dropping the Ball with Rusev, More!

<p>Russo is joined on today’s show by Skull Von Crush (Big Vito), his old co-host from Vicious Vincent’s World of Wrestling in the early 90’s. They will discuss Sunday’s Battleground PPV.</p><p>Russo says that without entertaining characters and in depth storylines, these <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/shows/" title="shows">shows</a></strong> are just full ok fake fights. That’s not what made him a fan of wrestling many years ago, and he believes that’s a big reason why so many mainstream fans have left the product over the last several years.</p><p></p><p>He thought the opening match of the show between The Usos and The New Day was a very exciting match and all the guys worked hard, but they started the show at such a high octane pace, that it almost made it impossible to follow. He also says the one superkick that was delivered to <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/xavier-woods" title="Xavier Woods">Xavier Woods</a></strong> from across the ring looked incredible and it looked like it should have legitimately killed him. Having him kick out of a spot like that doesn’t do anything good for the business.</p><p>Vito says that he agrees entirely and he felt that this match negatively affected the matches that followed. He thought the match between A.J. Styles and <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/Kevin-Owens" title="Kevin Owens">Kevin Owens</a></strong> was the worst match he’s ever seen Styles work, and that should never be the case because Owens is a good worker as well. The finish of this match was so anti-climatic after all the false finishes we saw in the opening match of the show.</p>

Opening for Tonight’s RAW Revealed

<p>WWE has announced that <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/brock-lesnar" title="Brock Lesnar">Brock Lesnar</a></strong> calling out <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/samoa-joe" title="Samoa Joe">Samoa Joe</a></strong> will open tonight’s episode of RAW. Here is what they wrote on their preview for the event:</p><p><em><strong>Will Brock Lesnar </strong><strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/tag/bring/" title="bring">bring</a></strong> the pain to Samoa Joe?</em></p><p>You should never intentionally provoke Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, and you definitely shouldn’t put your hands on his advocate, Paul Heyman. And yet, Samoa Joe accomplished both of those feats last Monday night on Raw when, in a difficult-to-watch show of force, he viciously locked Heyman in the Coquina Clutch.</p><p>The Samoan Submission Machine’s message was received by the Universal Champion, who will respond to his No. 1 contender’s sadistic attack tonight when Raw goes on the air at 8/7 C on USA Network. The juggernauts’ Universal Title clash at the debut WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view event is still weeks away, but someone’s going to get burned tonight. Will it be Joe or Lesnar?</p>
