She’s not having it. Wrestlers are celebrities in a unique way, as while they are certainly known to the public, they are rarely known for anything but their time in the ring. That does not offer them many options for getting their name out there otherwise, but it does happen occasionally. Now we are seeing it again as a WWE star had a moment that is likely to get her noticed. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Hi There: International Star Makes Official WWE Debut Liv Morgan was a guest at Tuesday’s New York Knicks game in Madison Square Garden to promote WWE’s upcoming live event in the same venue. During the night, Morgan was acknowledged as a guest of the team and presented with a customized Knicks jersey with her name on the back. Also during the night, Morgan was shown watching the game while a fan spoke to her, but she barely acknowledged anything he said. The Knicks’ Twitter account shared the clip, saying Morgan definitely did not hear a word of what was said to her. View this post on I..
She’s worth it? One of the bigger moments of the wrestling year so far was the debut of Mercedes Mone, formerly known as Sasha Banks during her time in WWE, in New Japan Pro Wrestling. This was Mone’s first wrestling appearance in about seven months after walking out on WWE. It was a big acquisition for New Japan but now we know a little something else about the appearance. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s Special: Bayley And Becky Lynch Receive Special Honor From WWE Before Mone’s January 4 debut, a rumor circulate that she would make more money per appearance than Chris Jericho during his most recent New Japan run. Jericho refuted the claim, saying that he was never given a guaranteed amount per appearance and was paid according to the show’s revenue. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the rumor, which has begun circulating again, is inaccurate, as Mone is not making as much as Jericho. She is also not making as much as she could make with WWE or AEW, but is working New J..
The boss is back. WWE issued a press release today, announcing that its Board of Directors has unanimously elected Vince McMahon Executive Chairman of the Board. In addition, Stephanie McMahon has resigned as co-CEO and Chairwoman of the Board and Nick Khan will serve as the company’s sole CEO. Statements from several executives were issued in the press release: Vince McMahon: “First, I’d like to express my full support for Stephanie’s personal decision. I’ll forever be grateful that she offered to step in during my absence and I’m truly proud of the job she did co-leading WWE. Stephanie has always been the ultimate ambassador for our company, and her decades of contributions have left an immeasurable impact on our brand. “I’m proud to announce that Nick Khan will serve as WWE CEO. Nick’s business acumen and mastery of the media industry have helped catapult our business to record revenue and profitability. Together, we look forward to working with the Board at this critical moment ..
The big time. We are in a new year and that means it is time to start doing new things in WWE. That can include all kinds of new concepts, or perhaps doing something in a different way. WWE has a lot of options open to it and some of those can be rather interesting. One such change has already been announced and now we know a good bit more about how the plan came into being. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They’re Up? Former NXT Champions Make Main Roster Debuts Last week, WWE announced that it would be holding its annual Money In The Bank event this year at the 02 Arena in London, England, marking the first time the event has been held outside of North America. According to Fightful Select, WWE could have held the show in a stadium and sold it out, but they felt that the 02 is the “Madison Square Garden of England” and wanted to run the venue. In addition, running Money In The Bank in England makes the event feel like one of the biggest of the year. There have been some big ones. Check out ..
They have a plan for that. WWE is a company that makes a lot of money in a lot of ways, but there are a few revenue streams that crush just about anything else. One of the most important is the company’s deal with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which brings a fortune in to WWE for a pair of annual shows. WWE occasionally does more than this, and now we know a bit more about the next show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Clip From Attitude Era WWF Live Event Featuring All-Star Lineup According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s next Saudi Arabian show will take place in May. There are currently no details on known regarding a show name or theme. This would be WWE’s first event in the Kingdom in May, as the events have recently been run in February and then again in the fall. WWE’s most recent event, Crown Jewel 2022, took place on November 5. WWE has done a lot in Saudi Arabia. It deserves some praise. WWE runs several events a year, some of which are among the biggest shows put on by any wrestling company in the world. It means a lot for a star to appear on one of those shows as there is great exposure than on almost any other platform. That is the case this week as well, and now we know just how big things were on a recent major event. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Ouch: Damage Ctrl Member’s Neck Issues May Be More Serious Than They Seem According to Fightful Select, WWE released an internal memo about the success of this year’s Survivor Series. Some of the highlights include: Viewership was up 46%, making it the more viewed Survivor Series on record. In-venue merchandise sales were the highest on record and up 20% over the 2021 Survivor Series. The live gate set records for both Survivor Series and any WWE event in Boston. WWE’s “fan enjoyment rating” saw a 48% increase over the 2021 event. The show was a blast. Check out some of the highlights: [This post co..
They were there too. WWE runs a lot of different events throughout the year and some of them are among the biggest that any wrestling promotion presents. The biggest of them all are usually saved for major venues as premium live events. Another of them was held over the weekend and there were several stars present. It turns out that there were some more who did not appear on the show. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: That’s Better: New Report On WWE Backstage Morale Under New Regime WWE held its annual Survivor Series event over the weekend. The card featured five matches and less than thirty wrestlers in total. According to Fightful Select, Hit Row was brought in to Boston for Survivor Series but the trio did not appear on the show. There is no word on if WWE had them film additional material or do anything else while they were backstage at the event. Hit Row can offer a few things. Check out what they can do when they appear: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains ..
She doesn’t sound pleased. Wrestling is a lot of things, but at the end of the day, it is not a secret that the match results are planned in advance. The wrestlers are real athletes and are putting in the effort whenever they are in the ring. There are a handful of stars who can legitimately take down just about anyone they care to, and now one of them does not seem happy with a fellow star. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Could Happen: WWE Ready To Name WrestleMania 43 Venue If Major Condition Is Met Last week on SmackDown, Raquel Rodriguez interrupted the Shayna Baszler vs. Shotzi match, resulting in Baszler getting distracted and rolled up for the pin. This came after Baszler’s friend, Ronda Rousey, interfered in the match multiple times. Rousey and Baszler were interviewed later in the night on SmackDown LowDown, with Rousey saying that Rodriguez disrespected herself and Baszler. Rousey went on to say that for interfering in their business, she would have to pay. Rousey is currently sc..
That’s a long time. There are a lot of wrestling events held throughout the year but none of them top WrestleMania. For almost forty years, the annual event has become the most important in the business from multiple perspectives. As a result, cities will bid to host the show and it can be quite the financial boon to the local economy. Now, we have an idea of where WrestleMania will be heading down the road. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Switch Em Up: New Theme Music And Ring Name For Monday Night Raw Stars According to the Tennessean (Nashville, Tennessee newspaper), WrestleMania 43 could be coming to Nashville in 2027. Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. CEO Butch Spyridon has said that WWE offered the city a verbal commitment to host the event if Nashville builds a new enclosed stadium. A vote to hold the new stadium will be held in the near future. WWE released a statement to the Tennessean saying: “Nashville has exploded as a cultural center in the United States and as the land of o..
That’s a new record. WWE runs several events a year but some of them are specials that are even bigger than others. Some of these include WWE going overseas to run an international event. This includes a series of shows in Saudi Arabia, which have gained WWE quite a bit of revenue. The events have been increasing another number and this one is rather important too. According to Fightful Select, WWE has sent out an internal memo bragging about the success of last weekend’s Crown Jewel event. The memo announced that Crown Jewel was now the most viewed international premium live event, with the viewership reportedly breaking seven figures on Peacock. Crown Jewel took the top spot from the first Saudi Arabian event, Greatest Royal Rumble, from 2018. Opinion: This isn’t the biggest surprise as Crown Jewel felt much more like a WWE event which happened to take place in Saudi Arabia rather than some kind of special show. The events have become big successes for WWE, especially on the financ..
That’s a big difference. The wrestling world has changed quite a bit over the years and some of those changes have been very positive. It is interesting to see where things go year to year, but some of the differences are so staggering that it is almost a different universe. Now a rather important aspect of WWE’s financial status has undergone quite the change. According to Wrestlenomics, the eight WWE Saudi Arabia events have generated $400 million for the company. By comparison, adjusted for inflation, ticket sales for all 38 WrestleManias combined have generated about $250 million. WWE began running two events in Saudi Arabia annually (one each in 2020 and 2021 due to the Coronavirus pandemic) in 2018. Thru 8 events in Saudi Arabia, WWE has nearly made 2x as much revenue as they've generated from every Wrestlemania ticket ever. ? Bound For Glory 2022 Date: October 7, 2022 Location: Washington Avenue Armory, Albany, New York Commentators: Matthew Rehwoldt, Tom Hannifan It’s the biggest night of the Impact year and the show doesn’t look too bad. Honor No More is in a pair of title matches, including the show’s main event, so tonight might determine all of the group’s future. That could go in a few ways but there is enough other stuff to keep the interest up. Let’s get to it. Pre-Show: Digital Media Title: Brian Myers vs. ??? Myers is defending in an open challenge and it’s……Dirty Dango (Fandango) for a surprise. Feeling out process to start with Dango hitting a dropkick to put the champ down. A legdrop gives Dango two and it’s time for Myers to bail out to the floor. Myers wins the fight outside as we go to French commentary for a bit. Back in and the chinlock goes on, with the fans trying to cheer Dango back up to his feet. Some stomping sets up another chinlock but Dango sends him outside for the slingshot d..
One less on the calendar. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that gives them a lot of advantages over other companies. One of their major strengths is the name recognition that comes with running regular events around the country. It means something to get to see the action live, but that will not be the case for some fans. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has canceled its upcoming Sunday Stunner event on October 16 in Prescott Valley, Arizona. There was no reason given for the cancellation of the show, which would have been the first WWE event in the venue, and no makeup date announced. The event was to be a SmackDown show, featuring matches such as the New Day vs. the Usos and Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross. Opinion: This one comes a bit out of nowhere and I’m curious to know why the show was canceled. There is always the chance that it was due to low ticket sales, which would not be the most shocking in a new venue. WWE is on a bit of a roll ..
That’s quite the number. While AEW and WWE get the most attention in the wrestling world, they are certainly not alone. There are all kinds of other promotions, some of which have television or web series that you see on a regular basis. At the same time, there are other places where it is a bit harder to find them, and one such one off show did something very impressive. Last weekend, Jim Crockett Promotions was brought back for one night only to present Ric Flair’s Last Match. The show featured Ric Flair wrestling for the last time, teaming with Andrade El Idolo to defeat Jay Lethal and Jeff Jarrett. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the event drew 6,800 fans and a gate of $448,502, both of which are the second highest results in independent wrestling history, behind All Out’s 10,541 fans and $458,525 gate. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you do not see happen very often but well done for Flair for having such a well received show. Flair may not have the best ..
That’s why they do it. There are all kinds of wrestling shows through the WWE’s calendar every year and some of them are more important than others. At the very top of the list is WrestleMania, which has long since been established as the biggest wrestling show of the year. It is such a big deal that cities will bid on the right to host it, and now we can see why that is the case. WWE has announced that this year’s WrestleMania 38 brought in $206 million in revenue to the Dallas, Texas area. This is a new record for WrestleMania revenue and the first time the show has broken two hundred million dollars. The revenue brought in was the equivalent of 1,777 full time jobs in the area, as 67% of the fans were from outside the Dallas/Arlington region. Opinion: And that right there is why it’s a big deal for a city to get to host WrestleMania: it brings in a fortune to a local economy like nothing else could possibly do. That is something that is going to work every single time and it seems..
I wouldn’t call that great. There are a lot of wrestling promotions in the world, with some of them being a lot more well known than others. One thing that they all have in common though is that they all had to start somewhere, because every promotion had its first show at some point. That can be a success or a failure, and we might be seeing a case of the latter in this one. This coming Saturday, July 9, Wrestling Entertainment Series is scheduled to hold its first event at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham, England. According to journalist Adam Callier, the event has sold less than 350 tickets for a venue that holds 10,000 people. The event has already been postponed from June and several wrestlers have announced that they will not be at the show on the new date. One, the former Nia Jax, has complained about the show still advertising her despite her making it clear she will not be there. Just been told that this re-arranged show, which still has people advertised on the poster wh..
