Right Here, Right Now: Independent Tag Team Sends WWE Cease And Desist Letters Over Name

They might want to fix that. While WWE and AEW get the most attention throughout the wrestling world, there are all kinds of wrestlers who work throughout the industry but rarely get the same amount of attention. Those wrestlers work incredibly hard to make a name for themselves without the same backing that comes with working for WWE. Now two of them have a problem with something WWE is doing. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: NXT Champion Collapses, Taken Away In Ambulance In an interview with the Hudson Valley Post, independent tag team The Now (Vik Dalishus and Hale Collins) revealed that they have sent two cease and desist letters to WWE over the company’s use of the term “the now” in regards to Austin Theory. Dalishus said that the name has been copyrighted since 2006 and people in WWE know their names. WWE has replied to one of the letters and is looking into the matter. Dalishus also said that their next step is a lawsuit for trademark infringement. The team has been around for ..

Mercedes Mone Wins First Championship In NJPW

Call her a champion. Mercedes Mone, known as Sasha Banks in WWE, has won her first championship as a member of the NJPW roster. She defeated Kairi for the IWGP Women’s Championship at NJPW’s Battle in the Valley show in San Jose, California. From Bleacher Report: NJPW sold out tickets to Battle in the Valley after Kairi vs. Mercedes Moné was announced and it showed as the crowd erupted as it began. It was the loudest the audience in attendance got all night. Mone entered the arena wearing new gear as a tribute to the late Hana Kimura. You could see how much she reveres Japanese wrestling, and how much this moment means to her. The former WWE star hasn’t wrestled since May 13, 2022, but she hasn’t missed a beat. The Blueprint dominated early on with the crowd behind her, but Kairi came roaring back. It looked like the champion could retain when she locked in the Ikari, but Mone fought out and cinched in her trademark crossface. Then, Kairi hit her staggering spinning back fist to f..

Monday Night Raw Results – January 30, 2021

Monday Night Raw Date: January 30, 2023 Location: BOK Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma Commentators: Corey Graves, Kevin Patrick It’s the first show after the Royal Rumble and that means we are going to be seeing a lot of build towards Wrestlemania. Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley are the Royal Rumble winners and are on their way to Los Angeles, but the Sami Zayn situation is going to have to be resolved at some point. Let’s get to it. We open with a look at Cody Rhodes returning and winning the Royal Rumble on Saturday. Here is Cody Rhodes to get things going. Cody soaks in the cheers and asks what we want to talk about. Rhodes has been doing this for over fifteen years and he started in Ohio Valley Wrestling. There is a sign on their building that says “tomorrow’s superstars today”. He remembers getting ready to go in on his first day and thinking he would be WWE Champion in two years and he would be the next John Cena. If he could talk to his 19 year old self, he would tell him that it would ..

NXT LVL Up Results – January 13, 2023

NXT LVL Up Date: January 13, 2023 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Byron Saxton As usual, LVL Up has me wondering what in the world I should be expecting. It might be a boring show, it might be a show with some slightly bigger NXT names or it might be a show that winds up being rather entertaining. It really is a show that could go anywhere, but it would be nice to have some more consistency. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Von Wagner vs. Oba Femi Mr. Stone is here with Wagner, who powers Femi into the corner to start. A running shoulder drops Femi but he’s back with a running shoulder of his own. Wagner cuts him off with a clothesline though and starts in on the back. A belly to back suplex and elbow to the face put Femi down again and we hit the chinlock. Femi fights up and hits a running clothesline in the corner, earning himself a big boot. The Death Valley Driver finishes Femi at 4:13. Result: Von Wagner b. Oba Femi – Death Valle..

VIDEO: WWE Pays Tribute To 47 Year Old Star On 20th Anniversary Of His Debut

He’s earned it. There is a constant stream of new stars coming into WWE but there is no way of knowing who might be the next breakout star. Back in 2002, WWE had perhaps the most successful rookie class in its history, as several future World Champions joined the promotion in the same year. There was one who did not get the same recognition, though now things might be changing. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: WWE Officially Announces Special Match For Royal Rumble WWE has released a video celebrating the twentieth anniversary of Shelton’s Benjamin’s debut with the company. The video includes several wrestlers talking about Benjamin’s career and how well he has done over his time with the company. Benjamin was part of the rookie class of 2002 along with John Cena, Batista, Brock Lesnar and Randy Orton and trained with them in Ohio Valley Wrestling, debuting on December 26, 2002. This is something special. Check out the video, plus some of Benjamin’s better matches: [This post contains..

NXT LVL Up Results – November 25, 2022

NXT LVL Up Date: November 25, 2022 Location: Capitol Wrestling Center, Orlando, Florida Commentators: Sudu Shah, Byron Saxton It’s Black Friday and that seems to be a rather appropriate term for a night with LVL Up. The show has had its recent bright spots and that is about all you can expect from a short burst of decent. I’m not sure what to expect this week and in this case, that might be a good thing. Let’s get to it. Opening sequence. Xyon Quinn vs. Tank Ledger They fight over wrist control to start before switching off to a test of strength. With that not working, Ledger hiptosses him over but gets sent face first into the middle buckle. Quinn hits him with a hard clothesline, only to get driven hard into the corner. A fall away slam sends Quinn flying for a change but he’s right back with the Death Valley Driver. The running forearm finishes Ledger at 4:54. Result: Xyon Quinn b. Tank Ledger – Running forearm (4:54) Amari Miller says she can get serious against Elektra Lopez ..

Next Time: WWE Cancels Upcoming Event

One less on the calendar. WWE is the biggest and most powerful wrestling promotion in the world and that gives them a lot of advantages over other companies. One of their major strengths is the name recognition that comes with running regular events around the country. It means something to get to see the action live, but that will not be the case for some fans. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has canceled its upcoming Sunday Stunner event on October 16 in Prescott Valley, Arizona. There was no reason given for the cancellation of the show, which would have been the first WWE event in the venue, and no makeup date announced. The event was to be a SmackDown show, featuring matches such as the New Day vs. the Usos and Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross. Opinion: This one comes a bit out of nowhere and I’m curious to know why the show was canceled. There is always the chance that it was due to low ticket sales, which would not be the most shocking in a new venue. WWE is on a bit of a roll ..

Netflix Reportedly Debuting Wrestling Series, Could Open Door For Major Streaming Deal

Add it to the list. The rise of the internet and streaming services have changed the way wrestling works. Fans are now able to see all of the content that they want with almost no limitations, as wrestling from around the world is now open before them. This includes even smaller territories, but now one of them might be leading to a much bigger broadcasting deal down the road. According to Fightful Select, a previously rumored deal between Netflix and Ohio Valley Wrestling would include a special behind the scenes show. The deal also includes the rights of first refusal for Ohio Valley Wrestling’s televisions rights. Should Netflix get into the live streaming business, they could be a potential bidder for the rights to WWE or AEW programming. WWE’s deals with USA and FOX and AEW’s deal with WarnerMedia all expire in 2024. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that could be a game changer for the industry. I don’t know if Ohio Valley Wrestling is going to set the streaming world on fire,..

The Undertaker Will Officially Enter The WWE Hall of Fame

His legacy will never rest in peace. WWE has announced that The Undertaker will officially be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the inaugural member of the class of 2022. From WWE.com: First introduced at 1990’s Survivor Series, The Demon of Death Valley was soon battling with Hulk Hogan, then at the top of the food chain in WWE. This clash set the tone for Undertaker’s dominant career. No one was too big, and no one was safe from his gloved grip. A multi-time WWE and World Heavyweight Champion, a seven-time tag team titleholder, and a Royal Rumble Match winner in 2007, Undertaker has cemented his place among the greatest in the game. A true in-ring pioneer, he was part of many WWE firsts, including the first-ever Casket Match at Survivor Series 1992, the first-ever Buried Alive Match in 1996, and the inaugural Hell in a Cell Match in 1997. But there was one achievement that stood out above all others that is unlikely to ever be topped. Since WrestleMania VII in 1991, The Undertake..

Former WWE Star Planning Full Time Return To Wrestling

Back to it. Retirements in wrestling are one of the bigger moments you will see, as it means, at least in theory, that a wrestler won’t be around any longer. Granted that is just in theory, as wrestlers rarely stay out of the ring forever when they first announce their retirement. That seems to be the case again, as another former star is wanting to get back in the ring. According to PWInsider.com, former WWE star Mike Mondo is planning a full time return to the ring starting in 2022. Mondo has not wrestled full time since 2019 and is best known for his time as part of the Spirit Squad. He wrestled for WWE from 2005 until 2008, mainly in Ohio Valley Wrestling. There is no word on where he might be making appearances or when his first match back would take place. Mondo certainly had a career of his own. Check out some of his time in the ring: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: Th..

One Ring Of Honor Name Has Already Found A New Wrestling Job

It’s a spot. This weekend marked the end of an era for Ring of Honor as the company is entering a hiatus period over the next several months. As a result, several stars are going to be leaving the company, though not all of them are going to be in the ring. There are all kinds of people who are heading elsewhere, and now we know where one of those names is heading next. During an appearance on the Lehigh Valley With Love podcast, Ring of Honor broadcaster Ian Riccaboni has announced that he will be joining the New Japan Strong commentary team starting in Seattle on January 15. Riccaboni has been with Ring of Honor since 2014 and has been the main host of their TV show since February 2017. Very excited to break the news with @LVwithLove with love that I will be headed to Seattle for @njpwglobal to join the commentary booth for #njpwStrong! New Japan has always been a treasured partner of RO..

VIDEO: Buddy Murphy Has Found A Surprising New Home

He has a future. There have been a lot of moves and changes made to the WWE roster this year and some of them were more confusing than others. Some of the names made for some very odd releases and some of them had fans wondering where the wrestlers were going to go next. Most of the wrestlers have found new homes, and now another can be added to the list. New Japan Pro Wrestling has announced that Buddy Matthews, formerly known as Buddy Murphy during his time in WWE, will be making his debut for the promotion in November. Matthews has been confirmed for the Battle In The Valley event on November 13 in San Jose, California. No opponent has been announced. Since leaving WWE in June, Matthews has appeared at a few independent events. This could be good. Check out the announcement and the what Matthews did in WWE: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: This is the kind of announcement th..

WATCH: John Cena Discusses Upcoming WWE Return

The anticipation builds. There are only a handful of wrestlers over the years to become the face of WWE. You can probably count the wrestlers who accomplished this feat on one hand and that puts them in a pretty elite group. It means a lot to see one of them making an appearance, and now it seems that WWE is getting ready for such a return from one of its biggest stars ever. John Cena appeared on the Tonight Show on Wednesday night to promote F9: The Fast Saga. During the interview, Cena was asked about whether he would return to WWE. Cena confirmed that he would be returning and was looking forward to his next match, though he did not give a specific date. When asked why he posted a WWE logo to social media in May, Cena said that he was simply feeling nostalgic. Cena has been a part of WWE for over twenty years, beginning with his time in the Ohio Valley Wrestling developmental territory in 2001. He debuted on SmackDown in 2002 and went on to become a record tying sixteen time World..

Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Jim Cornette And His Wife

This does not sound good. Thursday saw a host of major wrestling names being accused of either sexual assault or sexual harassment as wrestling’s version of the MeToo movement seemed to begin. This is a story that is going to be going around for a good while to come and that should be the case. There are a lot of names included, and one of the biggest is receiving more details than almost anyone else. Jim Cornette is one of the more controversial figures in all of wrestling. While he is one of the more knowledgeable names in the industry, some of his comments and statements have gone a good bit over the line. Couple that with Cornette’s very brash demeanor and it is no surprise that he is not going to be well received by some people. There are now allegations against him as well and they are not likely to go well either. On Thursday, former Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW, of which Cornette owned a piece and was an on air performer) performer Phil Earley said that Cornette’s wife Stacey (..

KB’s Review: Jinder Mahal And The Austin Theory Theory

There are a lot of elements that go into wrestling but there is one thing that a lot of fans can forget: the promotion putting on the show can tell (almost) whatever story they would like. That’s a detail that is so often overlooked and it hurts the product quite a bit. The reality though is a wrestling company can have its wrestlers go to any story they want at any given time. In one of his many (many) rants available on YouTube, Jim Cornette tells a story of running Ohio Valley Wrestling and seeing his top heel come to a show suddenly bald. The wrestler, Doug Basham, explained that WWE had wanted to see what he looked like bald. This sent Cornette over the edge (again) because Basham was one of his top stars. Cornette’s (paraphrased) response was “Give me two weeks’ notice, I’ll book him in a hair vs. hair match, shave him myself and sell some tickets.” Now notice what Cornette is saying in that short statement: it isn’t hard to book Basham in a hair vs. hair match even if the stor..

NXT II? Impact Wrestling Announces Partnership With New Developmental Territory.

It’s a good way to teach. I’d think it’s safe to say that NXT has been a success in more than one way. While it offers some of the best and most exciting wrestling in the world right now, it also serves as a way to get the newly signed wrestlers some experience in the ring. It serves WWE well as a developmental system, and now it seems that another major company is doing the same. Impact Wrestling has announced via their Twitter account that they are reestablishing their relationship with Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) to make it their official developmental territory again. OVW, out of Louisville, Kentucky served as the WWE’s developmental territory from 1999-2008 and for Impact Wrestling from 2011-2013. The two companies recently worked together for a One Night Only event from Impact Wrestling’s Davis Arena. BREAKING: We are thrilled to announce that we have re-entered into an agreement with @ovwrestling to serve as an official development and training territory for IMPACT Wrestling. ..

Jinder Mahal Says He Sees Himself Main Eventing WrestleMania

<p>WWE Champion Jinder Mahal recently spoke to PhillyVoice where he talked about his upcoming Punjabi Prison title match with <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/randy-orton" title="Randy Orton">Randy Orton</a></strong> at this Sunday on WWE Battleground. He also talked about the hardships he faced in his career, and how he overcame them.</p><p>Speaking of his upcoming Punjabi Prison match in Philadelphia, he said:</p><blockquote> <p>“I love performing in Philly. The fans aren’t scared to voice their opinions. Sometimes their opinions are split, sometimes half the crowd is chanting one thing, sometimes half the crowd is chanting the other. But, you know, I look forward to it. I really don’t know how they’re going to react. That’s what’s going to make the match exciting. I don’t know if they’re going to boo me out of the building or if they’re going to boo Orton out of the building.</p> <p>I do definitely know for sure they’re going to enjoy the match. It’s a Punjabi Prison match and it hasn’t happened in 10 years, and the structure is truly a monstrosity. I brought the Punjabi Prison this week on SmackDown, and it’s a spectacle. You’ve got to be there live just to appreciate the sheer size of it. It is a very risky match – for example, I went a little bit earlier and climbed the cage; it’s high and I’m scared of heights – but I know the Philly crowd is going to be rocking that night and I gotta do what I gotta do. I’m going to take the risks that I have to take to retain the WWE Championship.”</p> </blockquote><p>Mahal said that he was focused on improving even before his return and that he has not even “hit his prime yet”. He also added that he sees he has more title runs coming up for him in the future and how he aspires to be a future WWE Hall of Famer. He also talked about his role on NXT and how <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/wrestler/triple-h" title="Triple H">Triple H</a></strong> worked hard to promote NXT as its own separate brand rather than just a developmental brand.</p><p>When asked where he sees himself in a year:</p><blockquote> <p>“In one year, I see myself as already main eventing <strong><a href="http://www.ringsidenews.com/go/wrestlemania" target="_blank" title="WrestleMania">WrestleMania</a></strong>, still WWE Champion, and you know what, I see Drew McIntyre being on SmackDown. I think that Drew McIntyre will be challenging me for my WWE Championship. That’s where I see myself in one year.”</p> </blockquote><p>When asked about his run as part of 3MB and what he thinks of Drew McIntyre’s journey so far:</p><blockquote> <p>Drew’s one of my best friends. We’re always texting back and forth. Just to think a couple years ago, we were considered a joke and failures. I’ll be frank about it. I considered myself a failure when I got released from WWE after 3MB just because I didn’t live up to my potential. I didn’t live up to the expectations that I set for myself. I was going to come back with redemption and that’s exactly what I did.</p> <p>And I know that’s what Drew’s doing. He took [being released] very personally and when he was on the independents, he was the hardest-working man on the independents and the most-traveled man on the independents. And you know, now he has a shot at Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship on SummerSlam weekend. I know he’s gonna do great. He’s going to become the NXT Champion. He’s going to become WWE Champion. And, you know, there’s always peaks and valleys. Three years ago, that was a valley. Now we’re at the peak and we’re still on the rise.</p> </blockquote><p>You can check out the full interview <a href="http://www.phillyvoice.com/wwe-champion-jinder-mahal-ready-for-the-biggest-challenge-of-his-career-right-here-in-philly/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here</a>.</p>
