She won’t be around. One of the biggest WWE stories from last year was the departure of Naomi and Sasha Banks. The team, then WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, walked out on the company, vacating the belts in the process. Banks has since resurfaced in New Japan, but Naomi has not wrestled again since. Now there is a hint that it might be even longer than that. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It’s A Big One: Huge Grudge Match Set For WWE Elimination Chamber In the last few days, Naomi has updated her Instragram biography to say “Just Trinity”, with no reference whatsoever to her WWE name of Naomi. There is nothing to suggest that she will be returning to WWE at any point in the near future, though there have been reports that the two sides have been in negotiations. Naomi has not wrestled a match since May 15, 2022. Naomi was a heck of a star during her time in WWE. Check out some of the things she did in the company: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains video, click..
It can happen to anyone. There are all kinds of ways to get hurt in wrestling and as you might expect, the easiest is time is in the middle of a match. This can happen to anyone regardless of their training or experience level, which can make things all the more worrisome every time the bell rings. Now another star is injured and it came after a huge match. The main event of this weekend’s WWE Crown Jewel event saw Logan Paul unsuccessfully challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Title. Following the show, Paul posted to his Twitter account that he has torn his meniscus and MCL while also possibly tearing his ACL. Paul said that the injuries took place about halfway through the match but did not say when they took place. There is no word on how long Paul could be away from the ring. torn meniscus, MCL & potentially ACL happened halfway through the match. keep y’all updated ?? pic.twitter.com/3v5tpBABCk — Logan Paul (@LoganPaul) November 6, 2022 Opinion: Unfortunate..
Tone it down. AEW has shaken up the wrestling world and that has mainly been a good thing. The company has opened several doors for the industry, including allowing a lot of wrestlers a new place to go. One of the ways AEW has made its mark is through some unique ideas, but now they appear to be shifting away from one of the things they have used since their inception. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is toning down its use of the ranking system. Since the titles were established, it has used a ranking system to determine the top five challengers to the World, Tag Team and Women’s Titles. However, the rankings have not been updated since before All Out and have not been emphasized as much on television in recent weeks. There is a chance that they could be brought back, but it does not seem that they will be used as much at the moment. Opinion: This is quite the good news as I’m not sure how much good the rankings have been doing in recent months. Case in point, FTR..
Get your scripts updated. WWE has been undergoing a variety of changes and some of them are going to be felt for a long time to come. Most of these changes have been behind the scenes, but a good many of those are going to have an impact on what happens in front of the camera. That seems to be the case again, as some longstanding rules might be relaxed a bit. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is relaxing its rule on the use of the terms “wrestler” and “wrestling” in promos. Previously, the terms needed prior authorization to be used but now the terms are no longer considered dirty. This is said to be part of the changes taking place in WWE, many of which are seen as positives. Triple H is now in charge of both creative and talent relations and is said to be someone who cares about talent. Opinion: This is the kind of change that seems like the most logical idea in the world. At the end of the day, only WWE would ever think to call itself sports entertainment rather ..
Even more evidence. One of the biggest wrestling stories of the year has been Sasha Banks and Naomi walking out on WWE and leaving the company back in May. The two were the reigning WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions at the time and the titles were vacated in the process. There have been rumblings that the two may be returning to WWE, and now we have a bit more evidence. According to Wrestlingnews.co, Banks, under her real name of Mercedes Varnado, is no longer being advertised for the Los Angeles Rams celebrity flag football game, scheduled for this Friday. Banks had been advertised as of Wednesday evening but an updated roster from Reddit does not include her. While there is no guarantee of what the change means, there is a chance that WWE pulled her from the event if she is returning to the company. Here are Wednesday and Thursday’s advertisements: Who ya got?! Celebrity Flag Football rosters are set for Team Ramsey + Team Donald! » https://t.co/YqQkpKw4Qa pic.twitter.com/boDqCLysLl..
Call it a leftover? The biggest wrestling story in quite a log time took place last week as Vince McMahon retired from WWE after forty plus years running the company. That is going to be one of those shakeups that will have repercussions for years to come and the question now is to find out where things are going from here. There are some things that still needed to be updated and that was the case this week. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, this week’s edition of Monday Night Raw was mostly written before McMahon retired and was not a reflection of the new direction of the show. Most of the show was written by Thursday, with McMahon leaving on Friday. There were a few minor changes made, though it is not clear what they were. It is likely that this week’s SmackDown was written following McMahon’s departure. Opinion: I don’t think this is much of a surprise as there was little room to make a bunch of changes after McMahon left the company. Let them have the time to set things u..
He seems to be a fan. There are certain wrestlers who catch your attention no matter what they do. It might be something as simple as they way they move or the way they speak, but sometimes you can see it in their eyes. That is the case with a certain former WWE Champion, and now he has done something that might get some people wondering what he is doing next. Former WWE Champion Bray Wyatt has updated his Twitter biography to include a quote from Vince McMahon. The quote says “Begin again kid, it’s what you do.” There is nothing to indicate what Wyatt means, though the quote was included the day before McMahon officially retired from WWE. Wyatt has been out of wrestling since being released from WWE on July 31, 2021. Not so fast. WWE has been around for a very long time and the company’s history can be broken up into various sections. Some of these are a lot more well defined than others, but there are some that are among the most popular and successful times the company has ever had. This week, a story broke suggesting that we might be moving a bit back towards one of those eras, but that may have been jumping the gun. On Thursday, Andrew Zarian reported that a USA Network memo announced that Monday Night Raw would be rated TV-14 again starting on July 18. However, Zarian has since updated the story, saying that while the memo was correct, it was sent out early, meaning that the date of the TV-14 rating is currently up in the air. Fightful Select is reporting that Zarian’s update is accurate. There is no word on what kind of content a TV-14 show would contain. There was a memo within USA Network that went out this morning regarding WWE Raw changing to TV-14 on July 18th.Apparently that was sent ..
They have a plan for that. Last weekend’s Money In The Bank event was a rather eventful night for WWE. Not only did the company have the show’s two namesake matches, but Miss Money In The Bank Liv Morgan cashed in her briefcase to become the new SmackDown Women’s Champion. That was a huge jump up for Morgan and it seems that WWE might have something in mind for her. The Canadian Tire Center in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada is hosting a WWE live event on August 20. The advertisment for the event includes Morgan defending the SmackDown Women’s Title against both Natalya and Ronda Rousey. While the card is subject to change, this show takes place after Summerslam on July 30, suggesting that Morgan could be holding the title beyond the next major event. Morgan cashed in her briefcase on Rousey, following a successful titel defense against Natalya. UPDATED CARD: Newly crowned @WWE SmackDown Women's Champion @YaOnlyLivvOnce will take part in a Triple Threat Match against @RondaRousey and @N..
UPDATE: AEW later clarified the situation, saying that Punk has NOT vacated the title and that an interim champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door. That could be worse. There are all kinds of ways to slow a wrestler down and one of the biggest is an injury. You never know when you are going to see someone have to hit the brakes pretty hard because they have been hurt in one way or another and it can be quite the blow. That was the case again this week, as a fairly big star had some bad news to tell the world. This week on AEW Rampage, CM Punk announced that he is vacating the AEW World Title due to an injury that will require surgery. Punk addressed the issue in the ring, saying that he suffered the injury earlier this week and promised to be back, better than ever. While Punk did not specifically say he was vacating the title, commentator Chris Jericho clarified that the title is being relinquished. There is no word on what will happen with the title or how long Punk will be out o..
Not so fast. AEW has done quite a few things well in its just over three years of existence. One of their best things has been its pay per view events. The events are the most important for AEW as the company gets to showcase their biggest stars and matches. Those shows have to be followed up though, and now one of the followups will be a bit different than advertised. Following this weekend’s Double Or Nothing event, AEW announced that a ten man tag team match would take place this week on Dynamite. The match would see the Undisputed Elite face Jurassic Express/Christian Cage/Hardys. However, AEW has since updated the announcement and turned it into an eight man tag, with Jeff Hardy and Adam Cole removed from the match. There is no word on why the changes were made. See the fallout from #AEWDoN as a huge 8-man tag match is set for #AEWDynamite THIS WEDNESDAY at 8/7c LIVE on TBS, as #AEW World Tag Team Champs @boy_myth_legend/@luchasaurus team w/ @Christian4Peeps/@MATTHARDYBRAND to f..
See you sooner? There are a lot of wrestlers in WWE but some of them are bigger stars than others. You see a good number of them on a regular basis but some of the bigger stars are not around as often. That can make those moments feel all the more special and that is certainly the case with the biggest star in WWE today. Now you might be seeing him a little more frequently. One of the bigger WWE stories over the last few weeks has been Roman Reigns signing a new WWE contract which will allow him to only make appearances at major events and special shows. We now know that Reigns will be appearing at the July 22 SmackDown at the TD Garden in Boston and the July 26 Monday Night Raw in Madison Square Garden. There is no word on if Reigns will be appearing on camera or in a post show dark match. ? Updated event card for @WWE Smackdown on July 22, featuring @WWERomanReigns, @RondaRousey, @CodyRhodes, @FightOwensFight, @DMcIntyreWWE and more! Get tickets now: https://t.co/PSERLYEKcN #WWEBos..
Shake it up. WWE is in a strange period at the moment as they company has put almost everything they have behind one wrestler. That would be Roman Reigns, who is closing in on two years as WWE Universal Champion. That is the kind of thing you do not see happen very often and WWE is pushing the length of Reigns’ time as champion as a once in a generation deal. Now it seems that they have found a new way to extend it even further. As announced by Fightful on twitter, Reigns is no longer advertised for Hell In A Cell on June 5. The show’s original poster featured Reigns, but he has now been replaced by Cody Rhodes. This comes as Reigns has recently signed a new contract with WWE, which will allow him to work several fewer dates. Reigns is expected to be working on some television shows, where he will be heavily advertised in advance. Original WWE Hell in a Cell poster and updated WWE Hell in a Cell poster. They have rankings. The WWE roster has changed quite a bit over the last few months and it has left things looking more than a little different. That is not a bad thing and the changes are often needed to keep things fresh. At the same time though, it can be a bit difficult to figure out how the new roster is ranked. Now we know at least about at least a specific division. According to PWInsider.com, WWE has updated the internal roster of the Monday Night Raw women’s division. This includes the rankings of the wrestlers and whether they are considered to be either a babyface or a heel. This comes after the returns of Asuka and Alexa Bliss, plus Lacey Evans being moved from Monday Night Raw from SmackDown. Here is the list: Babyfaces Bianca Belair Alexa Bliss Liv Morgan Asuka Dana Brooke Heels Becky Lynch Rhea Ripley Lacey Evans Carmella Zelina Vega Doudrop Nikki Ash Tamina Opinion: There are a few surprises on this list, with Evans being third on the villains’ side and Asuka being ..
It takes priority. The rise of AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works in a lot of ways. One of the biggest has been allowing wrestlers to get a better chance to showcase themselves on a major stage. That is going to let those wrestlers land several bookings on smaller shows, but now that is not going to be the case with some wrestlers on an upcoming show. According to PW Torch, AEW has pulled a group of wrestlers from some upcoming independent events as they have changed a Dark taping from April 30 to May 1. As a result, Lee Moriarty and Skye Blue have been pulled from a Black Label Pro event and JD Drake, Top Flight and Wheeler Yuta have been pulled from a Pro Wrestling Guerrilla event. Both promotions have promised replacements. Unfortunately Lee Moriarty, Skye Blue and Jake Something will not be appearing at Fancy Wrestling next week. Updated matches and championship repercussions will be announced very soon. — Black Label Pro (@BLabelPro) April 22, 2022 Unfortunate..
That’s better, I think? Injuries are one of the few constants in wrestling, but they can also be used as a storyline. Be it in a match or an angle of some kind, a wrestler can fake an injury to advance whatever else they are doing. That can open up some doors for some interesting stories, and now that seems to be the case again, as a star has played off of her own bad luck. At Sacrifice earlier this month, Impact Wrestling’s Chelsea Green seemed to injure her arm in a match against Deonna Purrazzo. Green’s arm was placed in a cast though she managed to wrestle the following week on television. However, this week Green posted a tweet announcing that the injury was not real and that she had faked the injury to fool “all the marks” and prove that “the internet is f****** useless.” UPDATED DIRT SHEET REPORT: Chelsea Green shocks the world. Fools all the marks into thinking she broke her arm. Proves the internet is fucking useless. — CHELSEA GREEN (@ImChelseaGreen) March 19, 2022 Opinio..
That’s never good to hear. The Coronavirus pandemic has changed the way the wrestling world works and that is likely to be the case for a very long time to come. The virus is spiking again with hundreds of thousands of cases in America a day. It is no surprise that the wrestling world will be impacted as well and now another wrestling star has contracted the virus. The Young Bucks have updated the biography on their Twitter account, revealing that Matt Jackson has tested positive for the Coronavirus. There is no word on when Jackson will be returning to AEW television, though neither he nor the Young Bucks are scheduled for a match on this week’s AEW Dynamite or Rampage. He’s out. Wrestlers are rather different than the majority of the fans who watch them, but there are quite a few similarities as well. Just like the fans, wrestlers have their own share of medical issues, some of which can be rather serious. Something can flare up out of nowhere, which was the case last week. Now though, we have a positive update on what has happened. Earlier this week, AEW’s Chris Jericho was hospitalized due to a non-Coronavirus related issue. However, Jericho has since updated his status via Twitter, revealing that he has been released from the hospital. In a YouTube video, Jericho has announced that his band Fozzy will continue its tour, albeit without him singing. Instead, their upcoming concert will feature the fans singing their two most famous songs as well as the debut of their latest album, Boombox, being played live. There is no word on when Jericho will be able to sing or wrestle again. Back on the streets…. pic.twitter.com/xAaJV6VYzh — Chris Jericho (@I..
