REVIEW: Royal Rumble 2008: The Big Surprise

Welcome to KB’s Old School (and New School) Reviews. I’ve been reviewing wrestling shows for over twelve years now and have reviewed over 6,000 shows. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I’ll be posting a new review here on Wrestlingrumors.net. It could be anything from modern WWE to old school to indies to anything in between. Note that I rate using letters instead of stars and I don’t rate matches under three minutes as really, how good or bad can something that short be? Royal Rumble 2008 Date: January 27, 2008 Location: Madison Square Garden, New York City New York Attendance: 20,798 Commentators: Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler, Michael Cole Jonathan Coachman, Joey Styles, Tazz This was the other request so let’s throw up a triple shot this year. VIDEO: Two Top Stars Face Off After SmackDown

That’s how you end a night. There are a lot of wrestlers on the WWE roster and that means it can be difficult to get them all on television in a given week. Even though there are several television shows and rosters available, there are only so many spots to put all of the wrestlers in. Sometimes WWE can add in a few extra spots before or after a show and that is what they did with two of their biggest names this week. There are very few names in WWE more popular than Daniel Bryan. Over the years, he has built up a reputation as one of the most talented in-ring performers of all time while also coming off like a person you could get to know in the real world. That makes him easy to cheer for, especially when he’s a big underdog. That was the case after this week’s SmackDown went off the air. This week’s SmackDown post show dark match saw the Fiend defeat Bryan in a singles match with Sister Abigail after countering the running knee into the Mandible Claw. Bryan and the Fiend feuded f..

Rumor: Sami Zayn Still “A Few Months” Away From Being Cleared

Sami Zayn has been out of action for several months after tearing both of his rotator cuffs this summer. With the Royal Rumble coming around, most people are wondering if the “Underdog From the Underground” will be an entrant in the match. WWE officials do like to surprise the WWE Universe, but the chances of him wrestling are really slim. During a recent appearance on Talk is Jericho, Zayn explained that he’s still a couple of months away from being medically cleared. He also went into detail about not being in a hurry to return to the road and enjoying his time away from the ring. A lot of people will take that out of context, but Sami really means is he’s enjoying the time he has off. Related: Update On Return Dates For Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn WWE has been running vignettes for his return to Raw for the past few weeks. If Zayn is really still a few months off, that’s unfair to set the expectation that Sami will be back in time for the Royal Rumble. Depending on how close they ar..
