No more? There are certain wrestlers in WWE history who have become legends in their own time. Those are the people who will often only make occasional appearances and then go away for an extended period of time. It can mean a lot when one of them comes back, but in the case of one such legend, we might not be seeing him do his most well known thing again. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: They Have A Plan: Update On 2023 WWE Hall Of Fame Inductions Goldberg has not wrestled for WWE since Elimination Chamber in February 2022. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, he does not have any more matches on his WWE contract, but he is still under contract to the company. Therefore, despite there being no plans for him to wrestle at the moment, he is still with WWE and unable to sign or appear anywhere else. There is no word on when his current deal expires. There he is again. There are all kinds of reasons for wrestlers to take some time away from the ring, some of which have nothing to do with someone being unable to wrestle. Sometimes the departures are merely ways to advance a storyline and set up something down the road. That was the case this week, when a wrestler returned after a two month hiatus to set up a showdown. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WATCH: Bray Wyatt Sets His Sights On Some Huge Targets The main event of this week’s edition of AEW Rampage saw Dustin Rhodes defeat Swerve Strickland via DQ when Parker Boudreaux attacked Rhodes. After the match, Keith Lee made his return to save Rhodes and end the show. This was the first time that Lee had appeared since December, when Strickland and Mogul Affiliates had crushed a cinder block over Lee’s chest. Lee also appeared clean shaven and his hair was gray instead of black. It was a big deal. Check out Lee’s return, plus what is back: [This post contains video, click to play] [This..
It can happen to anyone. There are all kinds of injuries a wrestler can undergo and some of them are not as obvious as others. While you can see the big ones right in front of your face, there are others that can put a wrestler on the shelf, even if it does not seem to be that bad. It seems to be the case again, as a former AEW champion is on the shelf with an injury. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Would Know: Jeff Jarrett Reveals AEW’s Thought Process Behind Running Live Events During a recent video gaming live stream, former AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida revealed that she is suffering from a finger injury. While Shida said that she is still able to game, she is unable to wrestle at the moment. Shida described the injury as “little”, though she did not give any date on a return to the ring. Her most recent match took place on January 1 in Japan. Shida has been quite the success in AEW. Check out what she has done: [This post contains video, click to play] [This post contains vide..
It was a staffing issue. WWE has reached a special milestone for its flagship show. This week, Monday Night Raw will celebrate thirty years on the air, with several former stars appearing on the show. There have been all kinds of names announced, including some of the biggest stars in WWE history. However, three names who cannot appear caused a major change to the schedule. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: He Almost Got There: How Ricochet Wanted To Pay A Gory Tribute To Steve Austin Last week, WWE cancelled the scheduled Bloodline Acknowledgment Ceremony will not take place on Raw XXX. The ceremony was expected to include multiple members of the Anoa’i wrestling family. According to F4WOnline.com, the ceremony was canceled because multiple people scheduled were unable to attend. Afa and Sika (80 and 77 years old respectively) were unable to be ready for the trip and Rikishi was sick. The ceremony has since been replaced by The Trial Of Sami Zayn. That is a talented family. Check out what the..
Maybe or not. We are just over three months away from WrestleMania 39 and that means WWE is starting to put together its plans for the biggest event of the year. That is a tricky situation as there are all kinds of moving parts, including pieces that are not even in the company at the moment. The fact that a missing star might be the show’s feature attraction makes this more complicated, so WWE needs a backup plan. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: You Can See Him: Update On John Cena’s WrestleMania 39 Status For several months, the rumored main event of WrestleMania 39 has been The Rock vs. Roman Reigns, though nothing was ever made official. The Rock’s film schedule was always a problem and prevented WWE from being able to move forward with the plan. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s creative team is pitching new ideas for WrestleMania if the Rock is unable to work the show. There is currently no word one way or another if Rock will be able to wrestle, but if he can, he wi..
They’re the big ones. WWE is the largest and most powerful wrestling company in the world, meaning they are where several wrestlers want to wind up. Some wrestlers are talented and valuable enough to keep around after their in-ring careers are over and get to stick with the company in a backstage role. One such star was unable to attend a special show as a result. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: It Would Be A Record: WWE Hall Of Famer Wants To Return After 21 Years For Royal Rumble Over the weekend, Battleground Championship Wrestling presented its “Tribute To The Extreme” event at the 2300 Arena (formerly the ECW Arena) in Philadelphia. According to PWInsider.com, ECW legend and current NXT coach D-Von Dudley was pulled from his scheduled appearance at the show. Dudley was scheduled to appear at the convention before the event as well as in Bully Ray’s corner for Ray’s match later that night. The promotion received a letter from WWE, which took issue with an ECW tribute show airing, but the ..
Not so fast? Monday Night Raw is coming up on thirty years of weekly wrestling television and that is quite the accomplishment. The show has had all kinds of moments throughout its history, some of which have been more memorable than others. There have also been several stories that start up and are then dropped, which seems to have been the case again this week. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: BREAKING: Surprise Title Change Takes Place In NXT Main Event The main event of this week’s Monday Night Raw saw Seth Rollins defeat Bobby Lashley to become #1 contender for the United States Title. The referee was bumped during the match though, meaning Lashley was unable to pin a downed Rollins. Following the match, Adam Pearce fired Lashley to end the show. Pearce has since posted a video to Twitter, saying that Lashley is not fired but there will be repercussions for his actions. The two will meet later this week to see how they can work together. It was a quick announcement. Check out the match, ..
Get well soon. There are all kinds of ways for a wrestler to get hurt and you never want to see it happen. Injuries can come out of nowhere and change up a promotion’s plans all at once. That can lead to some last minute changes that can make things interesting, and that might be the case again as a WWE injury has caused a change of plans for an upcoming title match. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Put It On The Resume: WWE Team Tops PWI’s Tag Team 100 List Last week on SmackDown, a Tag Team Title match was set for this week’s show, featuring Drew McIntyre and Sheamus challenging the Usos. However, this week on Monday Night Raw, it was announced that McIntyre was not medically cleared for the match and was unable to challenge for the titles. As a result, Butch will take McIntyre’s place in the title match. There is no word on what kind of injury McIntyre has or when he might be back in the ring. Unfortunately I am medically disqualified to compete this Friday on #Smackdown I don’t like to ..
That could be bad. Injuries are one of the few universal problems that a wrestler can suffer as you never know when someone is going to be hurt during the course of a match. An injury could be major or minor, but there are also some that can cause problems for a long time to come. We might have seen one of the latter this weekend at Survivor Series during the show’s main event. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: WRESTLING RUMORS: WWE Planning Major International Show In India The main event of this weekend’s Survivor Series saw the Bloodline face Team McIntyre in a WarGames match. At one point during the match, Jey Uso seemed unable to set up a table and, according to Bodyslam.net, could be overheard telling his teammates that his hand was broken. Uso would favor his hand throughout the match. Various fans on Twitter have said that they heard Uso say the same thing. There is no word on whether Uso will need to miss any ring time as a result of a possible injury. I can’t be the only one that hea..
It’s a dangerous sport. There are all kinds of ways a wrestler can be injured in the ring, but there are even more possible issues outside of the ring. It can be a terrible thing to see a wrestler be hurt, but not all injures are created equally. There are instances where an injury might not be as serious as another, and it certainly helps when the injury doesn’t seem to actually have happened. That seems to be the case again. IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: RUMOR KILLERS On Two WWE Money In The Bank Stories This week on Monday Night Raw, the Miz announced that he was unable to face Johnny Gargano in a match as he had injured his hand on a cactus. Miz has now posted a video to Instagram, showing himself hitting a toy cactus that records and repeats anything he says in a distorted voice. After hitting the cactus, Miz says that he is hurt again and it’s bad, though there is a disclaimer saying that it is NOT the real cactus. He is currently still scheduled to face Dexter Lumis next week on Mond..
One more time would be nice. Wrestlers are in a weird situation when it comes to retirement. Unlike other athletes, wrestlers are able to keep going for one more match or appearance, as they can keep trying for one more big day. Some wrestlers are able to walk away, but it might not always be under the best circumstances. That might be the situation again for an all time legend. During a recent edition of his Foley Is Pod podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley said that he is more than likely going to turn down any offer to ever return to WWE TV again. Since he is unable to remember a written promo due to memory loss issues, Foley felt that he would be unable to help in the way that he wanted to. Foley said that he did not want to return to WWE, get a cheap pop and promote something, but rather help a wrestler or a storyline. Foley last appeared in WWE in July 2019, where he was attacked by the Fiend. Opinion: As sad as it is to see, this is one of those things that is going to happen..
Another one on the list. You never want to see an injury in wrestling and unfortunately there is no way to guarantee complete safety in the ring. At some point, almost every wrestler is going to get injured at some point in their career and a change is going to have to be made. That is the case again as another AEW wrestler has been injured and had to be replaced in an announced match. This week’s AEW Rampage was originally set to include a rubber match between Penelope Ford and Willow Nightingale. However, during the show, it was announced that Ford was injured and unable to complete. As a result, Leila Grey replaced Ford in a losing effort. There is no word on how Ford was injured or how long she is expected to be out of action as a result. Opinion: Unfortunately this is going to happen to almost every wrestler at some point and there is no way around it. Ford is someone who has been injured multiple times and forced out of the ring, but hopefully this one doesn’t last as long as h..
Farewell? With so much talent in the wrestling world, it can be difficult to keep everyone happy. At some point, someone is going to be unhappy with whatever they’re doing and that can become an issue. Sometimes a wrestler is going to run into some kind of trouble and that is the case again with a top name, who might be on his way out after a major ordeal earlier this year. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AEW is looking into buying out CM Punk’s contract, which would end his time with the company. This comes after Punk was involved in the backstage brawl after All Out in September. The main sticking point in the two sides coming to an agreement is Punk’s no compete clause, which would prevent him from going to WWE should the two sides want to work together again in the future. However, Punk is still recovering from triceps surgery and would be unable to wrestle anywhere for several months anyway. Opinion: I don’t think this is the biggest surprise as AEW was going to ..
That really doesn’t sound good. Injuries are among the worse things that you will ever see in wrestling and unfortunately you never know what kind might take place. Some of them are a lot more serious than others and can put a wrestler on the shelf for a very long time. That seems to be the case with a top AEW star and it seems that things might be even worse than they seem. AEW’s Adam Cole suffered a concussion at Forbidden Door on June 26 and has not wrestled since. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Cole’s concussion was described as being “really bad” and there is no word on when, or if, Cole will ever be able to wrestle again. Cole appeared on AEW Dynamite in August but did not get physical. He has been streaming on Twitch but is currently unable to travel or wrestle. Opinion: Yeah I would say that sounds serious. Anytime you hear about the question of whether or not a wrestler is going to be able to wrestle again, things are clearly in quite the bad state. Cole is a very ta..
He’s done? With so much talent on WWE, it can be difficult to find time for a lot of wrestlers to get in the ring or even on television. It can be frustrating for some stars who are unable to appear on any of the shows and in some cases it can cause some problems for those wrestlers. That might be the case again with a star who has a history with not appearing on WWE TV for a long time. Last week on Monday Night Raw, Mustafa Ali had his first match on the show in nearly two months, losing to Bobby Lashley. Ali has since released a video, titled “I’m Done”, in which he says he is done with waiting around for someone to come after him or with blaming everyone else for his problems. Ali also warns anyone who is in the ring with him of what is coming for them. There is no word on any plans from WWE to use Ali more frequently. There’s a lot to this. Check out what Ali had to say: [This post contains video, click to play] Opinion: We’ll have to wait and see where this leads, but the vide..
That might not be so bad. There are all kinds of injuries that can take a wrestler out of action in the blink of an eye. Occasionally you won’t even see the injury take place and one day they are just on the shelf for some reason. No matter what happens, someone being hurt is never going to be a good situation. This time though, there is a chance that things could be different. This week on Monday Night Raw, the Street Profits’ Montez Ford accompanied Angelo Dawkins to the ring. However, Ford was wearing a walking boot and was unable to be involved in the match. According to Fightful Select, while there is no world on the nature of Ford’s injury, the walking boot was supplied by the WWE prop department. There is no word on when Ford will be back in the ring. Opinion: That is something rather interesting but above all else it is the hope spot that helps things the most. Ford having some kind of foot or ankle injury could have put him on the shelf for a long time. While that is still a..
That’s a valid reason. Wrestling shows take a lot of preparation and the higher you go in the wrestling industry, the more effort they require. That is certainly true of weekly national television shows, and sometimes there are factors that impact the show that are beyond anyone’s control. That was the case this week as several names missed a television taping due to a serious situation. According to Fightful Select, several wrestlers missed this week’s AEW Dynamite and Rampage taping due to the impact of Hurricane Ian, which has been ravaging Florida. Two of the names who were unable to make the show were Swerve Strickland and Samoa Joe, with several others likely not being present. Earlier this week, AEW President Tony Khan excused any wrestler who lived in the hurricane’s path from being at the show. Opinion: This is the kind of thing that you do not see happen very often and what matters most is that all of the wrestlers and their families are safe. You never want to see somethin..
It’s a bonus punishment. AEW has changed the way the wrestling world works and that has been a good thing for fans. While AEW is a major promotion on the biggest stage, it also allows its wrestlers to work independent shows, allowing fans to see mainstream talent on smaller stages. That is a rather cool thing, but it is not going to be the case for some of those wrestlers for the time being. Earlier this month, a backstage brawl took place after AEW All Out, resulting in several suspensions. It is not clear when the wrestlers will be back, as AEW is still conducting an investigation. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the suspended wrestlers are not allowed to work independent dates while they are away from AEW. CM Punk, the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega are currently suspended, though Punk is unable to wrestle as he is recovering from tricep surgery. Opinion: They really didn’t have a choice here as you can’t have wrestlers suspended from AEW and getting to wrestle elsewh..
That’s going to be a big one. AEW has been around for a few years now and the company has built up a rather deep roster in its existence. This involves a group of wrestlers who have been around the world with all kinds of success. That includes wrestlers being paired together in different units, but now one of those groups has fallen apart in a pretty violent way. This week’s AEW Dynamite featured the return of the Undisputed Elite, including Adam Cole. During his speech, Cole revealed that he was injured and unable to participate in the upcoming Trios Titles tournament. Cole also said that fellow Undisputed Elite members the Young Bucks would be unable to participate as well because they would be physically unable. This caused Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly to attack the bucks, with Hangman Page having to make the save. Page did not embrace the Bucks and left without them. Opinion: This feels like something that is designed to set up the return of Kenny Omega, but if that is not the c..
